Thousands of students yet to enrol in schools 4,605 students still missing from rolls in current academic year in Chamarajanagar

October 24, 2020 by Nasheman

MYSURU: The Covid pandemic has cast a pall of gloom over enrolment of students in schools in the backward Chamarajanagar district. Many parents, fearing the safety of their wards, have not even got their children admitted to higher classes. Though the government had set a deadline of September 30 for admission and then extended it till October 16, around 4,605 students are still missing from the rolls in the current academic year.

Worried about the trend, officials are trying to convince parents to enrol their children in schools. According to sources, the number of admissions has come down by 129 in government schools, 1,164 in aided schools and 2,582 in unaided schools. The student strength in Chamarajanagar for 2020-21 is 1,22,389 as against 1,26,994 for 2019-20.

Parents say that they are ready to lose a year rather than put their children at risk, and seem to think that the government will promote their children like last year. A parent, pleading anonymity, said his daughter wants to join school, but poor financial condition has tied his hands. “I will get her enrolled as soon as I get some money,” he said.

Somanna, a teacher, said parents confessed that they don’t have money to get their children admitted. “Many parents have no money to pay the fee or buy books as they are not getting assured income for the last 6-7 months,” he said. Many children are assisting their parents to supplement the family income.
DDPI Javare Gowda said over 4,000 students have not enrolled to schools so far.

“Block education officers have served show-cause notices directing private schools to enrol students, but the numbers have not improved. We have appealed to parents to get their wards admitted to the nearest government school if they find it difficult to pay fee,” he said.Gowda said over 700 students have switched form private to government schools, and BEOs are authorised to give transfer certificates to students to enable them to join schools of their choice.

Congress, JDS try to woo Muslim voters in Sira

October 24, 2020 by Nasheman

TUMAKURU: All the three major political parties, BJP, Congress and JDS, and their leaders campaigning in the Sira Assembly constituency are focusing on Sira town, which was the headquarters of Mughal rulers in the 16th century and has considerable minority votes. For Congress and the JDS, these votes are crucial, while the BJP is focusing on majority Hindu votes

BJP leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi, Panchayat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappa and BJP state VP B Y Vijayendra, have campaigned aggressively but have not touched upon religious issues. They are instead talking only about the development works BJP candidate Dr C M Rajesh Gowda would bring in if elected.

Siddaramaiah focused on areas dominated by backward classes, especially Kadugollas. “I had proposed to the Centre to give a scheduled tribe tag to Gollas when I was the CM and also included the community in the caste list. In the next general elections, I will give a ticket to one of your leaders,” he said.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that he is even ready to initiate talks with his British counterpart Boris Johnson to get Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif deported from London.

Prime Minister Khan as saying that since getting Nawaz extradited from Britain would be a “long process”, his government was pushing for him to be deported “which can happen immediately”.

“We are in regular contact with their officials. We are making full efforts to get him deported,” the Pakistani Prime Minister said.

“If I have to, I will go and talk to Boris Johnson,” he added. This comes weeks after the British government had informed the Pakistani officials that they will not get involved in “its internal politics”.

For over nearly a month, the Pakistan government has made several attempts to get Sharif’s arrest warrant signed.

The News International reported that the country’s diplomats stationed in London also asked the British government to help execute the arrest warrants of Nawaz, however, the government bluntly refused.

Last month, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) came down heavily on the Imran Khan-led government for allowing Sharif to go abroad without informing the court and it was up to the dispensation to take steps for ensuring the latter’s return to the country.

At Bihar rally, Rahul Gandhi asks PM Modi when land occupied by China will be recovered

October 23, 2020 by Nasheman

Speaking at his first election rally in poll-bound Bihar on Friday at the same time PM Modi was addressing his second rally in Gaya, Gandhi alleged that the PLA has grabbed 1200 sq km in Ladakh

PATNA: Countering Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement on the Indian Army’s sacrifices in the Galwan Valley, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that he had lied to the nation by saying there was no infiltration by the PLA into Indian territory in Ladakh.

Gandhi accused the Prime Minister of insulting the Indian Army by denying that the PLA had infiltrated into Ladakh.

Speaking at his first election rally in poll-bound Bihar in Nawada district on Friday at the same time that PM Modi was addressing his second rally in Gaya, Gandhi alleged that the PLA has grabbed 1200 sq km of area in Ladakh.

“When our jawans fought against the infiltration by the PLA and laid down their lives, our PM lied that the PLA has not intruded into Indian territory in Ladakh,” he claimed, asking the PM to tell the nation when the land captured by the PLA will be vacated.

He asked the people of Bihar to unseat the Nitish Kumar-led government to save the state as well as the nation.

“PM Modi makes promises when he comes here but when the time comes for working for Bihar and the people, he goes back home and takes action for the benefit of Adani and Ambani,” he alleged.

He called upon the people to uproot the government in the state by voting in favour of candidates of the grand alliance.

Fake TRP: Cops scrutinise financial transactions of five channels, records Republic TV CFO’s statement

October 23, 2020 by Nasheman

The police will also slap sections related to forgery in the case, including IPC sections 408, 463, 465 and 468.

Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami

MUMBAI: The Mumbai police have started scrutinising the financial transactions of five channels, which were allegedly involved in fake Television Ratings Points (TRP) scam, an official said on Thursday.

The financial transactions that took place in the last five years are being examined, he said.

“The Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the Mumbai crime branch has started the process of scrutinising the financial transactions of these five channels that happened in the last five years,” the official said.

It will also examine their revenue sources, he said.

“During the investigation conducted so far, it has been observed that there was a sudden spike in the number of transactions,” he said, without giving any further details.

The police will also slap sections related to forgery in the case, including IPC sections 408, 463, 465 and 468, he said.

Meanwhile, the police recorded the statement of CFO of the Republic TV channel S Sundaram on Thursday and he will again be called on Friday, the official said.

Executive editor of the channel Niranjan Narayanswamy will also be called for questioning again, he said.

The probe team has recorded the statement of Republic TV’s distribution head Ghanshyam Singh in the case, he said.

The alleged fake TRP scam came to light when ratings agency Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) filed a complaint with the police through Hansa Research Group, alleging that certain channels were rigging TRP numbers to lure advertisers.

It was alleged that some families at whose houses meters for collecting data of viewership were installed were being bribed to tune into a particular channel.

Bihar polls: PM Modi slams Opposition for promising reversal of Article 370 revocation

October 23, 2020 by Nasheman

He also said that the opposition to the farm laws in the country by the Congress and other parties was nothing more than an excuse to save the brokers and middlemen.

SASARAM: The whole country was waiting for the revocation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir since years and it was the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government which carried it out, but today the Opposition is saying they will reverse this decision, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Prime Minister said that even after making announcements of reversing the decision on Article 370 the Opposition was audacious enough to ask for votes from Bihar residents, who send their sons to protect the country’s borders.

“The whole country was waiting for years for removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, the NDA government took this decision. But today they are talking about reversing the decision, they say when they come to power Article 370 will again be enforced. Look at their audacity, even after saying all this they have the guts to ask for votes from Bihar residents,” PM Modi said at the rally in Sasaram.

“Is this not the insult of Bihar which sends its sons and daughters to the borders for the protection of the country? I want to clarify one thing to them from Bihar, the land of farmers and soldiers, they can take the help of whosoever they want but the country will not go back on its decisions, Bharat will not go back on its decisions,” he added.

He also said that the opposition to the farm laws in the country by the Congress and other parties was nothing more than an excuse to save the brokers and middlemen.

“Mandis and MSP are just excuses, the real motive is to save brokers and middlemen. Before Lok Sabha elections when money started getting deposited directly into farmers’ bank accounts then they spread confusion. When Rafale aircraft were purchased, then also they were speaking the language of brokers and middlemen,” he said.

The Prime Minister also cited the apathy of the Opposition parties, during their rule in Bihar, for the adversities faced by people in the Bhojpur belt and further said that the ‘lalten’ (lantern, also RJD’s election symbol) era was gone.

“All NDA parties today are working together for making an Atmanirbhar, confident Bihar. Bihar still has miles to go on the path of development and has to fly towards touching new heights. The era of ‘lalten’ is gone. In the last six years consumption of electricity has increased 3 fold in Bihar,” PM Modi said.

“Voters of Bihar have taken a resolve that they won’t let those who have a history of making the state ‘Bimaru’ come near them,” he added.

PM Modi added that the results of almost all pre-poll surveys are suggesting that NDA will return to power in the state and thanked the residents for the same.

He also hailed the COVID-19 management undertaken in the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to address two more rallies in Gaya, and Bhagalpur in the poll-bound state today.

He is slated to hold a total of 12 election rallies in Bihar starting today.

Bihar assembly elections will be held in three phases — October 28, November 3, and 7, and the counting of votes will take place on November 10.
