Two terror suspects arrested at Trivandrum airport; one allegedly involved in 2008 Bengaluru blast

The central investigation agencies on Monday arrested two persons from Trivandrum International Airport for their suspected links with terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and involvement in the 2008 Bangalore blast case.
The arrested persons have been identified as Gul Nawaz, a native of Uttar Pradesh, and Shoaib alias Fazil, a native of Kondat near Pappinissery, Kannur.
Gul Nawaz was accused of raising funds for the LeT through hawala channels to sponsor terrorist activities in the country, while Shoaib was accused in the 2008 Bengaluru blast case, sources said.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is in charge of the LeT hawala money transaction case, the Anti-Terror Cell of the Bengaluru Police is investigating the 2008 blasts in the southern city.
Sources said both the terror accused were deported from the Gulf and arrested when they landed at the Trivandrum airport. With this, a total of five persons have been arrested for terror suspected cases from Kerala within the last three days.
On Saturday, the NIA had picked three persons from the migrant workers’ settlement in Kochi.
A team of officers from the investigation agencies reached the airport premise in the evening and took the accused into the custody when the Air India repatriation flight (1532) from Riyadh landed in the airport by 6.13 pm. It is learnt that the duo were deported to the country.
Soon after they were taken into the custody, the slueths have questioned them for about 2.30 hours inside the airport. Later they were taken to Kochi for detailed interrogation. It is expected that they would be taken to Delhi and Bangalore after obtaining transit remand on Tuesday.
Nawaz was accused of raising fund for the proscribed LeT from Saudi in a case registered in 2017. The NIA had earlier arrested other accused in the case for their role in funding LeT operative Sheikh Abdul Nayeem alias Sohel Khan who was arrested and chargesheeted earlier for criminal conspiracy to carry out subversive activities in the country.
Shoaib is said to be the Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative and accused in Bangalore blast.

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday targeted the government over the passage of the “dangerous” farm Bills without division of votes in Rajya Sabha, while lauding the sit-in protest on the Parliament premises by the eight suspended MPs.
The eight Rajya Sabha members, including AAP MP Sanjay Singh, were suspended for the remaining part of the Monsoon Session over “unruly behaviour” during the passage of the farm Bills in the Upper House of Parliament.
The other MPs are Derek O’Brien (TMC), Rajeev Satav (Congress), Elamaram Kareem (CPI-M), K K Ragesh (CPI-M), Syed Nazir Hussain (Congress), Ripun Boren (Congress) and Dola Sen (TMC).
Since their suspension on Monday, the eight MPs have been holding a protest on the Parliament premises.
Kejriwal said these eight MPs were fighting for the rights of farmers without worrying about heat, mosquitoes or other inconveniences and have spent the night protesting in the Parliament complex.
“They are not asking for anything for themselves. They are fighting for democracy and the Constitution. They are struggling for the farmers of the country,” Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi.
Farmers across the country are saying that these laws will end them, he added.
“Such a dangerous Bill was passed without division of votes. Then what is the meaning of Parliament, what is the meaning of elections? If you have to pass the law this way, then why did you call a Parliament session,” Kejriwal asked in another tweet in Hindi.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia compared the present government to the British colonial rulers.
“The British ruled the same way. They would commit atrocities on the farmers, labourers and businessmen. They would make black laws to perpetuate the atrocities. And when they met Gandhiji and other leaders, they (the British) would offer them tea. Our rulers are running the government in the same way still,” Sisodia said in a tweet in Hindi.
He was referring to Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Singh offering tea to the protesting MPs in the morning.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi showered praises on Harivansh Singh for the gesture, saying his “inspiring” and “statesmanlike” conduct will make every democracy lover proud.
Responding to Modi’s tweet, Sanjay Singh said he was “humbly” returning the tea and requesting the government to return the farmers’ morsels.

Home quarantine rules are being violated.”Moudgil added, “Testing helps a lot in early detection of cases and prevention of deaths, and also reduces spread of the virus.”There were 122 deaths reported on Monday, taking the toll in the state to 8,145.
Opposition members in Rajya Sabha stage walkout, demand revocation of MPs suspension

NEW DELHI: A number of opposition parties led by the Congress on Tuesday staged a walkout from Rajya Sabha demanding that the suspension of eight members be revoked.
The Congress was the first to walkout from the House along with members of the AAP, TMC and Left parties.
The members of all these three parties are among those who have been suspended by the House for the remaining part of the Monsoon session.
Some parties like the NCP, SP, Shiv Sena and RJD also staged a walkout later.
Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu made a fresh appeal to members of all opposition parties to rethink their decision of boycotting the House proceedings and participate in the discussions of the House.
“I appeal to all members to rethink their decision of boycott and participate in the discussion,” Naidu said in the House.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said: “The government is not hell-bent upon keeping the suspended MPs out of the House,” he says.
“If they express regret, the government will look into it.”
Former PM HD Deve Gowda said the government and Opposition should sit together to run the House.
Earlier Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad said the opposition will boycott the proceedings of the House till the suspension of eight members is revoked.
Speaking after the Zero Hour, Azad also demanded that the government brings a bill which should ensure private players don’t procure food grains below the minimum support price (MSP) fixed by the government.
As many as eight members of the Rajya Sabha were suspended on Monday after the government brought a motion in this regard which was passed by the House by voice vote.
These eight members were suspended for “unruly behaviour” during the passage of the two key farm bills on Sunday by Rajya Sabha amid chaos.
Covid-19 Update:Nepal reported highest single-day death toll due to coronavirus
KATHMANDU: Nepal on Monday recorded its highest single-day death toll due to COVID-19 at 16, taking the total number of fatalities in the country to 427.
With 1,154 fresh coronavirus cases recorded in various parts of the country in the past 24 hours, Nepal’s coronavirus tally has increased to 65,276, according to the Health Ministry.
Of the 16 deaths due to the coronavirus, five were from the Kathmandu valley, Health Ministry spokesperson Jageshwor Gautam said, adding that in the past 24 hours, 9,533 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were conducted.
Of the newly-infected, 418 are women and 736 are men.
The Kathmandu Valley alone recorded 674 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, taking the valley’s case load to 17,090.
There are currently 17,611 coronavirus active patients undergoing treatment at various isolation centres across the country.
In the past 24 hours, 1,005 COVID-19 patients were discharged after recovery from various health facilities across the country, taking Nepal’s corona recovery tally to 47,238.

NEW DELHI: India’s COVID-19 infection tally crossed 55 lakh on Tuesday, while a record 1,01,468 patients recovered in a day, taking their number to 44,97,867 and pushing the recovery rate to 80.86 per cent, the Union health ministry data showed.
The coronavirus caseload in the country surged to 55,62,663, with 75,083 new infections being reported in a span of 24 hours, while the death toll climbed to 88,935 as the virus claimed 1,053 more lives during the same period, according to the data updated at 8 am.
The COVID-19 case fatality rate was recorded at 1.60 per cent.
There are 9,75,861 active cases of the coronavirus infection in the country which comprises 17.54 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.
India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and it went past 50 lakh on September 16.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, a cumulative total of 6,53,25,779 samples have been tested up to September 21, with 9,33,185 samples being tested on Monday.
RS Deputy Chairman Harivansh arrives with tea for 8 suspended MPs who camped overnight at Parliament lawns

NEW DELHI:: The eight MPs suspended for continuing with their protests against farm bills inside the Upper House who had spent the night on the lawns of Parliament in protest had a visitor in Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh who arrived with morning tea for them.
Harivansh met the suspended Rajya Sabha MPs who had spent the night on the lawns near the Gandhi statue in the Parliament premises. He was seen sitting on the ground and having tea with the MPs.
The MPS were earlier suspended by Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu for “unruly behaviour” with deputy chairman Harivansh Singh.
On Monday, Venkaiah Naidu announced the one-week suspension of Trinamool Congress’ (TMC) Derek O’Brien and Dola Sen, Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Sanjay Singh, Congress’ Rajeev Satav, Ripun Bora and Syed Nasir Hussain, CPI (M)’s KK Ragesh and Elamaram Karim for “unruly behaviour” with the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman on Sunday during the passage of the farm bills.
On Sunday Rajya Sabha witnessed unruly scenes as Opposition members stormed the well and reached the deputy chairman’s seat to protest against the Farmer’s Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 and passed by the Upper House through voice vote.
Both the Bills were earlier passed by Lok Sabha through voice votes.

Many states, Union Territories not providing details of farmer suicides: MHA in Rajya Sabha
G Kishan Reddy said as informed by the National Crime Records Bureau, many states and UTs have reported “nil” data on suicides by farmers.
NEW DELHI:The government on Monday said many states and Union Territories have not provided details of farmer suicides and hence, the national data on the causes of suicide in the farming sector is “untenable” and cannot be published.
Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy said as informed by the National Crime Records Bureau, many states and UTs have reported “nil” data on suicides by farmers, cultivators and agricultural labourers after several validations, even while reporting suicides in other professions.
“Due to this limitation, national data on the causes of suicide in farming sector was untenable and not published separately,” he said in a written reply.
According to the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data on accidental deaths and suicides, 10,281 farmers committed suicide in 2019, down from 10,357 in 2018.
The suicide rate in the farming sector accounted for 7.4 per cent of the total suicides in the country — 5,957 farmers and 4,324 agricultural labourers, the NCRB said in the report containing the latest data.
