First Air India flight carrying 219 Indians evacuated from Ukraine lands in Mumbai

Mumbai: The first Air India flight carrying 219 Indian evacuees from Ukraine landed at the Mumbai airport on Saturday evening from Bucharest, Romania, ATC sources said.

Operated with a Boeing 787 aircraft, the AI chartered flight touched down at the Mumbai airport at 7.50 pm.

Union minister Piyush Goyal was at the airport to receive the Indian nationals returning from war-hit Ukraine.

The evacuation flight had left from Mumbai for Bucharest at 3.38 am and landed there around 10.45 am Indian Standard Time.

Indian nationals who reached the Ukraine-Romania border and Ukraine-Hungary border by road were taken to Bucharest and Budapest, respectively, by Indian government officials so that they could be evacuated.

The first evacuation flight AI1944 departed from Bucharest at 1.55 PM (Indian Standard Time) with 219 Indians.h

The shortlist of nominees for the third edition of Chandanavana Film Critics Academy Awards 2022 were announced on Sunday. Each of the 20 categories of awards has five nominees each, which have been nominated by Kannada film critics and journalists. The Awards night is scheduled for the second half of March.

Badava Rascal, Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana, Puksatte Lifu Pursotte Illa, Ratnan Prapancha and Salaga are the films in contention in the Best Film category while
Raj B Shetty (Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana), Arvind Kuplikar (Puksatte Lifu Pursotte Illa), Tharun Sudhir (Roberrt), B M Giriraj (Kannadiga) and Duniya Vijay (Salaga) are hoping to find favour with critics for the Best Director Award.

Garuda Gamana Vrishaba Vahana, Puksatte Life, Badava Rascal and Ratnan Prapancha are top films nominated in multiple categories. A new trophy was also unveiled by actors Rishi, Ragini Dwivedi and Karnataka Media Academy president K Sadashiva Shenoy. Shenoy, who started as a film journalist was felicitated on the occasion.

The 3rd edition of the Critics Awards has adopted BBMP Swacha Bengaluru – Namma Nagara Namma Hemme (Clean Bengaluru – Our City Our Pride) campaign as its motto. Celebrities in the Awards process were urged to lend their support for the BBMP campaign by Chandanavana Academy founder S Shyam Prasad.

Actor Rishi speaking after launching the trophy said even after a film’s success, recognition through awards gives actors and film makers the added inspiration to do better. He applauded the role of film journalists in his career recalling many incidents. He wished the Chandanavana Film Critics Academy to further encompass bigger roles in the future. Ragini Dwivedi praised the manner in which the film critics were organising the award event transparently and helping in rejuvenating the industry.

In the categories related to acting, Raj B Shetty (Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana), Dhananjay (Badava Rascal), Sanchari Vijay (Puksatte Lifu Pursotte Illa), V. Ravichandran (Drushya 2) and Dhananjay (Ratnan Prapancha) are vying for the Best Actor award while Rachitha Ram (Love You Rachchu), Amrutha Iyengar (Badava Rascal), Ghanavi Lakshman (Hero), Nishvika Naidu (Sakkath) and Ashika Ranganath (Madhagaja) are in contention for the Best Actress awards.

Master Plan for uniform development of all areas of Bengaluru: CM Bommai

A Master Plan would be drawn up for uniform development of all areas of Bengaluru,Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.

He was speaking after launching various development projects including 250 bed multi speciality hospital at Munnekolalu,a flyover in Varthur ward,a 150ft wide road and a police station at Marathahalli in Mahadevapura assembly constituency.

All the civic amenities could be provided to people only if there is planned growth of Bengaluru.

Basic infrastructure needs to be developed for core Bengaluru,7 erstwhile CMC areas of the city need 110 villages by providing mutual linkages and coordinated development.

The Master Plan is being drawn up with an ambitious determination to ensure a uniform level of infrastructure and amenities for all the areas, Bommai said.

Mahadevapura to be the best area of Bengaluru

Referring to massive growth of Mahadevapura and development of infrastructure in the area, Bommai said, from software to enterprises of all sectors and housing complexes, Mahadevarapura has it all.

Various civic works including Cauvery 4th phase and UGD are going on in the area.Mahadevapura is set to become the best area in Bengaluru in the coming days.

The new multi speciality hospital would bring a new era of good health services in the Northeastern part of the city.

It would be on par with the Bowring, Victoria and KC General hospitals. it is being planned to link the elevated road to Varthur road, Bommai said.

Nagarothana Yojana

Under the Nagarothana Yojana Rs.6000 cr has been provided for development of Bengaluru. Storm Water Drains are being remodelled at a cost of Rs.1500 cr.

More than 20 STP plants need to function properly to ensure that only treated water is let into the drains. Instructions have been issued in this regard, Bommai said.

Bengaluru is the Knowledge Hub

Bengaluru has attained a new high in its stature. For the contemporary world India means Bengaluru.

Such is Bengaluru’s fame, especially in IT and BT, startups and R & D.The 21st century is the Knowledge Century.

Where there is knowledge there is power. Bengaluru is now the Knowledge Hub of the world.There are more than 180 R & D centers in Bengaluru.

There is no other city in the world with so many R & D centers. Development of Mahadevapura is very important as it houses the maximum number of IT units in Bengaluru, Bommai said.

The Cauvery 4th phase drinking water project is in final stages of completion.UGD works too would be completed along with it and instructions have been issued in this regard.

Authorities have been instructed to complete the extended 2nd phase of Bangalore Metro works before 2024 and start preparations for the next phase.

Hebbal Ring Road to Mahadevapura flyover Metro link would be provided.The Goraguntepalya junction too would be decongested and elevated roads would be built.

All necessary programmes and projects would be implemented to retain Bengaluru’s international fame.

We need not make Bengaluru another Singapore. Only Bengaluru could be an ideal model for Bengaluru.

Appropriate measures to bring Karnataka students stranded in Ukraine: CM Bommai

Appropriate measures are being taken to bring home Karnataka students stranded in Ukraine, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.

Speaking to media persons in Vidhana Soudha he said,many Indian students are stranded in Ukraine as the war broke out between Ukraine and Russia when the students were heading to the airport.

About 100 students are stranded in two buses. More than 10 of them are Kannadigas.We are getting complete information about them.We are in constant touch with the Indian Embassy in Ukraine.”

“The Indian Embassy in Ukraine has issued suitable guidelines for the safety of Indian students.

Action is being taken to bring them back safely once the flight services resume. We are in constant touch with the Foreign Secretary and I will discuss it with our External Affairs minister too,” Bommai said.

About 200 Indians returned home from Ukraine last week under the shadow of war.

The students are returning in batches and this is the last batch.

Karnataka students would be brought home safely, Bommai said replying to a question on the stranded students.

Upset Over financial crisis Father strangles girl with charger, hangs himself

Upset over financial crisis, a 39-year-old employee of a private company killed his seven year old daughter before ending his life.

The incident took place in Bommasandra on Wednesday and the deceased have been identified as Vijay Kumar and daughter Sameeksha.

His wife had went to garment factory for work when the incident took place and Hebbagodi police with senior officer visited the spot.

After visiting the spot he said,A 39-year-old man strangled his seven year old daughter to death before ending his life at their house in Hebbagodi due to health and financial problems . 

The incident took place on Wednesday evening and the deceased have been identified as Vijay Kumar and his daughter Sameeksha and she was studying second standard.

He further said Kumar hails from Tamilnadu, was residing in Bommasandra.

He was running a fabrication workshop and shut down after incurring huge loss in business  during covid. 

Probe revealed that Vijay Kumar was unemployed since then and suffering from multiple ailments. He decided to end life and even called back his eldest daughter aged 12 year staying with her relatives in Mysuru,with a plan to kill them and end his life,but due to some reasons,she did not returned home.

On Wednesday,Vijay Kumar strangled seven-year-old Sameesksha with a wire and hanged himself while his wife Chandrakala had gone to work in a garment factory.

She returned from work and found the bodies before alerting the police.

There was a suicide note and based on the statement of Chandrakala the police have registered a case of murder against Vijay Kumar and also charged him with suicide .

The family had come to the city 20 years ago and Kumar was living separately while his parents, who work in the railway department,were staying in Electronic City.

Gold Smith arrested by Jayanagar police recovered 1.3 kg Gold Bar Worth Rs.50 lakhs

The South Division police of Jayanagar police on Thursday arrested a 33-year-old gold smith from Kolkata who was on the run with 1.3 kg of gold bar which he had taken from a jewel shop after promising to make the designer Jewellery out of it in January.

The accused has been identified as,Amar Mohanty, native of Sitapur near Kolkata.

Senior officer told media persons,A Jewellery shop owner filed a complaint in Jayanagar police station stating that a designer who was working in his shop to make designs and used to take the same to his house to do design jewellery.

But after taking a gold bar weighing 1.3 Kgs in the month of January for making designs jewels he first said that he is sick and later when he went to check again he was shocked to see that the designer vacated the house and ran away

Manish filed a complaint on February 1 based on which a team of police led by DCP, South,Harish Pandey,under the leadership of ACP, Srinivas KV the team using technology skills and other police investigation skills track down Amar to his native a team went to Kolkata and secured him and recovered the stolen gold bars.

During investigation the accused confessed the crime and revealed that he has sold the gold bar to construct the house which was his long pending commitment and living with his family when a team of Police led by Inspector UR Manjunath tracked him down and arrested.

A detailed investigation by the team it has revealed that the accused Amar joined Thirumala jewels three months ago situated in Jayanagar 3rd block as designer for the jewelry .

He would take gold bars to his rented house and work and make designer jewellery and return it to the shops.

Similarly on January 1, he went to his house with 1.3 kg of gold bullion to design jewellery and did not return.

After few days,the owner of the shop Manish Kumar went to his house to check when Amar cited health reasons and asked for few more days of off to recover and return to work .

Unsuspected Manish agreed and returned home but later came to know that Amar had vacated to house and escaped with the gold .

The team recovered the gold which he had sold worth Rs.50 lakh and brought him to the city along with the gold and remanded to judicial custody.

Finally Bengaluru Police Commissioner,Kamal Pant has appreciated Addl CP West,Sandeep Patil,DCP South,Harish Pandey,ACP,KV Srinivas, PI,UR Manjunath,PSI,Padmanabh C,ASI, Lakshmanachar,and crime staff as,Mahadevaiah, Ambarish,Pavan Kumar,Chethan kumar, Tannahji Morre,and Peerapa who has successfully nabbed the gold Smith turned thief and recovered stolen property Worth Rs.50 lakhs from him a special reward will be given to the whole team for their excellent investigation in tracking the accused he added.

Citizens’ involvement and officers’ responsibility is important to get rid of garbage problem in BBMP limits.

Garbage problem needs to be addressed in a systematic manner,said honorable retired justice, Chairman of NGT Monitoring Committee for Solid Waste Management,Karnataka,Subhash B Adi.

Addressing a meeting today,on the Implementation of Solid Waste Management Rules-2016 and the managing, transportation and the processing of solid waste in BBMP limits,he said that,Bengaluru is a major city not only as the capital of the state but also in the view of the nation.

Needed steps should be taken to solve the garbage problem in the city.The officials of BBMP, with understanding the rules of solid waste management,should move forward to implement all those rules in all the zones with peoples’ involvement.

All the citizens in the city, understanding their responsibility,should segregate waste (dry & wet) before giving it to waste collectors.

It should be examined that whether the people are aware of their responsibilities in connection with the solid waste management.

About 40% (more than 100kg of waste) of the waste comes from bulk generators.In this connection, the authorities need to keep track of how many people are registering for waste collection,how much waste is being collected and where the waste is being disposed of, he said.

He also said that a survey of garbage disposal sites, number of shops / apartments, type of shops, garbage collected and so on should be made available in BBMP.

BBMP Marshals must monitor the bulk generators in the city.If the waste is not properly collected and transported,penalty should be imposed.

All garbage processing plants in the city must function properly.The Environmental Pollution Control Board must regularly inspect the water and air near the garbage processing plants, he said.

He also instructed the authorities to take precautionary measures to ensure that the garbage processing shall not cause any problem to the local people.

In the city,there should be proper penalties for garbage disposal on the sidewalk,and in private places.

Awareness should be created among the people regarding the proper disposal of waste. Awareness workshops,with regard, should be conducted if necessary, he said.

BBMP Chief Commissioner,Gaurav Gupta said that the BBMP zonal joint commissioners need to push more with regard to garbage collection and disposal.

It is necessary to enforce their powers to identifying and fining the garbage throwers and also the involvement of people in solid waste management.

Make Micro planning for waste disposal in the city.More and more penalties should be imposed if not complying with the solid waste management rules.Citizens should be more aware of the sorting of garbage (dry and wet), he said.

Srinivasulu,member of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board,said that imperative action should be taken against the garbage disposers in the BBMP Limits.

He said that it is needed to take steps to establish a buffer zone around the waste treatment plants.

karnataka Govt to recruit more FSL employees: Home Minister Araga Jnanendra

Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said the government will soon clear the administrative hurdles to recruit staff to Forensic Science Laboratories (FSLs) and strengthen the institutions.

The minister visited the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Madiwala on Wednesday and interacted with technical and scientific officers.

He said that the government will further modernise the FSLs and clear administrative hurdles to recruit staff.

We will also try to solve the grievances of the staff including providing residential quarters,he assured.

He lauded the work of the FSL staff and said they have played a pivotal role in the detection of crimes and getting the accused persons convicted.

Man on scooter crushed under wheels of speeding BMTC bus in Whitefield Bengaluru

A 35-year-old electrician was killed and the rider injured when a speeding BMTC bus knocked their scooter down on ITPL road in Whitefield road on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as,Shankar Prasad,35 while the injured Nasim Akhtar,19 was being treated at a private hospital .

The duo are from Gorakhpur in UP and working for a private firm.

Senior officer rushed to spot and after collecting information he said, the duo was heading to work when the BMTC bus moving in the same direction veered to the left in order to stop on the road side.

As a result Akhtar who was riding the scooter lost control and collided with the scooter with the footpath.

Due to the impact she fell on the left side while Prasad slipped under the moving wheels and crushed to death.

The Whitefield traffic police rushed to the spot and booked the driver for rash and negligent driving and also death due to negligence and further investigation is on.

Three robbers/muggers arrested by City market police recovered stolen property Worth Rs.3 lakhs

The City market police arrested a gang of three who had robbed two employees of a jewellery shop in Chickpet in May last year .

The accused has been identified as,Mohammed Farhan,Nadeem Pasha,Salman Pasha.

Senior officer told media persons,a complaint was registered by employees of Jewellery shop who stated in their complaint that a group of armed men broke open the jewellery shop shutters and they were sleeping inside as it was lockdown time during Covid and they used to sleep in shop only at the same time in the wee hears a group of assailants armed with lethal weapons threatened two employees sleeping inside and robbed their valuables worth Rs 3 lakh the owner of the shop stated in his complaint.

Based on the complaint,the police inspector,BG Kumaraswamy and his crime team visited the shop and after inspecting the shop and after verifying the CCTV footage the team got their identity.

The team kept a close watch on the accused and arrested them after they returned to the city as they were absconding since the crime.

The team using technology and police intelligence secured all their trio and during investigation the accused confessed the crime and they even revealed that they were involved in three more house break thefts reported in the city market,and a special team are on the lookout for two more accused who are on the run.
