January 11, 2022 by Nasheman

Parmesh S Jain

Action would be taken against any one who violates the Covid rules. There would be no differentiation in dealing with them,Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.

Speaking to media persons,he said that,FIR has been registered against 30 members who had participated in Congress padayatra for the Mekedatu project.

Government is concerned about the health of those who are participating in Mekedatu padayatra.

It is the duty of the health department to check the health condition of those who take the long walk, Bommai said and urged the participants to cooperate with the health department to do its duty.

Whoever violates the Covid rules, whether a common man or a big leader, there is no differentiation.Action will be taken in a uniform way according to the law” Bommai said.

He advocated the need for more intense vigil against the spread of Covid.

The state has registered 12,000 Covid cases yesterday, of which Bengaluru has accounted for about 9000.

Positivity rate in the state has risen to 6.8% and it is 10% in Bengaluru. Karnataka is in the third spot in the country in Covid cases. So more precautionary measures are needed,” he said.

The Chief Minister in his address after launching the Booster Dose vaccination programme for health workers and senior citizens with comorbidities said, Karnataka has achieved 100% first dose vaccination and 77% second dose vaccination.

We want to reach 80% by end of January and action would be taken to intensify the second dose jabbing. We will achieve the target of bringing Karnataka into the Covid Protection Ring,” he said.

Corona warriors are the real sentinels of the nation :

Corona warriors are the real sentinels of the nation.Just like the soldiers are protecting the country at the borders, the Corona warriors are protecting every family in the country, Bommai said.

Despite facing many challenges in discharging their duties, the Asha workers, doctors and nurses are rendering yeomen service. They are the real guardians of the nation,Bommai said.

“Vaccination is the only way to protect ourselves from Covid. Covid second and third waves intensified due to the laxity on vaccination by some countries.

Western countries have now made vaccination compulsory. India has vaccinated three times more than what USA has achieved.

Even an advanced country like USA has not achieved full vaccination of its population. But India with a population of 130cr has done better.

The vaccine developed in our own country has proved very effective. The credit for this success should go to the leadership of our Prime Minister Modi and Covid frontline workers,” Modi said.

Resistance against any revolutionary decisions and programmes is natural. Vaccination also came under extensive debate with some opposing it.

Covid does not differentiates on caste, he said and urged the people to cooperate with health workers.

Health minister Dr. K Sudhakar and senior officials were present on the occasion.

Government may hold 35.8 per cent stake in Voda Idea as firm decides to convert dues liability into equity

January 11, 2022 by Nasheman

NEW DELHI: Debt-ridden Vodafone Idea (VIL) has decided to opt for converting about Rs 16,000 crore interest dues liability payable to the government into equity which will amount to around 35.8 per cent stake in the company, as per a regulatory filing of the telecom firm.

If the plan goes through, then the government will become one of the biggest shareholders in the company which is reeling under a debt burden of about Rs 1.95 lakh crore.

“The board of directors, at its meeting held on 10th January, 2022, has approved the conversion of the full amount of such interest related to spectrum auction instalments and AGR dues into equity. The Net Present Value (NPV) of this interest is expected to be about Rs 16,000 crore as per the company’s best estimates, subject to confirmation by the DoT,” Vodafone Idea said in a regulatory filing.

The government has given telecom operators an option of paying interest for the 4 years of deferment on the deferred spectrum instalments and AGR dues by way of conversion into equity of the NPV of such interest amount.

VIL said that since the average price of the company’s shares at the relevant date of August 14, 2021 was below par value, the equity shares will be issued to the government at par value of Rs 10 per share, subject to final confirmation by the DoT.

“The conversion will therefore result in dilution to all the existing shareholders of the company, including the promoters.

Following conversion, it is expected that the government will hold around 35.8 per cent of the total outstanding shares of the company, and that the promoter shareholders would hold around 28.5 per cent (Vodafone Group) and around 17.8 per cent (Aditya Birla Group), respectively,” the filing said.

Shares of VIL were trading at Rs 12.55 apiece, down by 15.49 per cent compared to the previous, at the BSE in the morning hours.
