Kangana Ranaut’s plea against CMM order refusing transfer of defamation case rejected by sessions court

January 1, 2022 by Nasheman

MUMBAI: A sessions court in Mumbai on Friday turned down the plea of actor Kangana Ranaut challenging a lower court’s order rejecting her application seeking transfer of the criminal defamation case filed against her by scriptwriter-lyricist Javed Akhtar to another court.

The detailed order passed by Additional Sessions Judge SU Baghele, however, is not yet available.

In October, the chief metropolitan magistrate (CMM) had dismissed Ranaut’s plea seeking transfer of the defamation case from the Andheri magistrate’s court.

Akhtar had filed the defamation complaint before Andheri court in November, 2020 over certain statements made by Ranaut during a TV interview.

Later, she moved a review application before the Dindoshi sessions court stating the CMM had failed to appreciate that the (Andheri) magistrate had “misused” his powers to cause intentional injury to the applicant (her case).

Earlier, the actor claimed she had “lost faith” in the Andheri metropolitan magistrate’s court as it indirectly “threatened” to issue a warrant if she failed to appear before it in a bailable offence.

Three crores of Punjabis must come together to save the state: AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal

January 1, 2022 by Nasheman

CHANDIGARH: The people of Punjab have to come together for saving their state as they have lost faith in the Congress, the SAD, the BJP and Punjab Lok Congress, Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal said on Friday.

“Three crores of Punjabis must come together to save the state. No one can disturb the peace and brotherhood of Punjab. The ruling Congressmen have no concern for Punjab as they are fighting among themselves for the Chief Minister’s seat. The Channi government is the weakest government of Punjab and it has failed to restore peace in Punjab,” he said.

Kejriwal questioned why the desecration of religious scriptures and places of worship and terrorist activities started just before the elections. “That is why Punjabis need to be extremely vigilant and united. The people are well aware of selfish, opportunistic forces like Congress, Amarinder Singh, Badals and BJP. The people have made up their mind to remove the corrupt people from power. The people of Chandigarh have recently shown this,” he said, urging the people to bring about a change in the government in the upcoming elections.

Recently, the AAP won 14 of the 35 seats in its debut Chandigarh Municipal Corporation election. Senior AAP leader Bhagwant Mann accused the BJP of pursuing a policy of hatred, but he claimed that Chandigarh ha shown that they wanted a policy of communal harmony.

“Chandigarh tan jhakki hai, Punjab hale bakihai (Chandigarh is just a trailer, Punjab will present the whole picture),” he said.

ATM service charges increase, to cost Rs 21 per transaction from today

January 1, 2022 by Nasheman

NEW DELHI: Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) across banks are all set to increase service charges per transaction from Saturday, following an order from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and customers will have to Rs 1 more beyond the permissible free transactions for cash as well as non-cash purposes.

However, the customers are eligible for five free transactions (inclusive of financial and non-financial transactions) every month from their own bank ATMs.

They are also eligible for free transactions (inclusive of financial and non-financial transactions) from other bank ATMs viz. three transactions in metro centers and five transactions in non-metro centers.

The last change in interchange fee structure for ATM transactions was in August 2012, while the charges payable by customers were last revised in August 2014.

The RBI has notified the changes from January 1, 2022, citing the increasing cost of ATM deployment and expenses towards ATM maintenance incurred by banks or white-label ATM operators.

Ashwani Rana, Founder of, Voice of Banking said, “The increase of service charges per ATM transaction will be charged from the customers beyond a number of transactions permitted by the respective banks. This increase is only Rs 1 plus Goods and Services Tax (GST), which is very nominal to customers against the maintenance charges paid by banks as earlier they were charging Rs 20.”

Nipun Jain, Chief Executive Officer, RapiPay Fintech clarified, “Consumers withdrawing cash using our Micro ATMs and Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS) will not be affected with the recent RBI guideline to increase ATM transactions charges (applicable after the customers exhaust the free monthly limit).”

“We believe this will boost the already growing demand for cash withdrawal through AEPS and Micro ATMs at our direct business outlets and help us in achieving our goal of growing financial inclusion in deeper geographies and far-flung areas like North East, Kashmir, Ladakh, and Uttrakhand. We have sold over one lakh Micro ATMs since we began operations last year. Our average ticket size of withdrawal has climbed from Rs 3500 to Rs 3800, with a CAGR growth of 25 per cent in Micro ATMs in the last one year,” Jain added.
