Be fearless, all will be good: Indira told Priyanka

March 18, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News :  Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is in Uttar Pradesh campaigning for the party, is drawing inspiration from her grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who taught her to be fearless.

“Sitting in the courtyard of Swaraj Bhawan, the room is visible where my grandmother was born,” she tweeted late on Sunday, while spending sometime in the 19th century mansion here. The ancestral home was owned by her great-great grandfather, Motilal Nehru.

The 47-year-old recalled how her grandmother often rocked her to sleep with the bedtime story of Joan of Arc, a peasant girl from medieval France, who believed God chose her to lead France to victory in its Hundred Years War with England. She succeeded and is honoured as the Maid of Orleans.

“I still have those words imprinted in my heart. Become fearless and all will be good,” she added.

Party President Rahul Gandhi appointed his younger sibling as the eastern in-charge of Uttar Pradesh on January 23.

The fifth generation of the Nehru-Gandhi family still at the helm of the party is striving hard to win the Hindi heartland state.

On Monday, Priyanka Gandhi will embark on a Prayagraj to Varanasi (Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency) boat ride on the river Ganga, making small pit stops and meeting crowds on the banks.

Modi continues to rule popularity charts despite slight dip: VOTER tracker poll

March 18, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News :Even a fortnight after the air strike by Indian Air Force fighter jets on terror camps in Pakistan’s Balakot, Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to dominate the popularity charts despite a dip in his rating from the peak witnessed during the first week of March, but his distant rival Rahul Gandhi has shown only marginal signs of recovery.

The latest ‘state of the nation’ tracker poll by CVOTER-IANS based on the data collected till March 14 showed that Modi’s rating has begun to slide from the high of around 60 per cent seen on March 4, 5, 6 and 7 to come down slightly to around 56.

In contrast, Rahul Gandhi’s rating, which had gone down to less than 3 per cent in the period when Modi’s had surged, has improved marginally to around 7 per cent though it remains much below around 20 per cent support he enjoyed in his best days in January 2019.

In terms of satisfaction with the Prime Minister’s work, there is not much change with over 50 per cent remaining in the very satisfied category. Though his net approval rating in the range of 60s in the first week of March has come down to 56 on March 14.

The gap between the two leaders has come down below 50.

A majority of the respondents (over 40 per cent) continue to believe that Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) can run better coalition.

The findings are based on a sample size varying between 4,000 and over 6,000.

Christchurch killing: Indian kin still await news

March 16, 2019 by Nasheman

[Nasheman news] Hyderabad  More than 24 hour after the terror attack at two mosques in New Zealand’s Christchurch city, a man from Hyderabad remains missing while another who was shot at is recovering.

Mohammed Sayeeduddin was still waiting for information about his son Farhaj Ahsan, 31, who remained missing.

“We are still waiting for information. He is still listed as missing,” an anxious Sayeeduddin told IANS on Saturday.

Farhaj’s wife and her uncle, who rushed from Australia, were at a hospital in Christchurch, waiting for the authorities to provide some information.

Farhaj, a software engineer, was at Al Noor mosque for Friday prayers when the terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on worshippers.

He used to regularly offer Friday prayers at Al Noor as he lives in a nearby neighbourhood with his wife and two children.

Like every day, Sayeeduddin rang up his son, unaware of what was going on at the mosque. “We speak to him over phone every day around afternoon and today being Friday I rang him around 8 a.m. but he did not respond,” the father had told IANS hours after the mass killing.

He then called his daughter-in-law, who informed that there has been an attack at the mosque and she has failed to reach Farhaj over his mobile phone.

She later went to hospitals with a picture of her husband and after a long wait, the authorities told her that he is among 19 people missing.

Farhaj, who did his MS from Auckland University, worked for various companies.

Ahmed Iqbal Jehangir, another man from Hyderabad who was also at the same mosque, was injured. He received a bullet on his chest.

“Alhamdulillah (grateful to Allah). He is out of danger and recovering,” his brother Mohammed Khursheed Jehangir told IANS in Hyderabad on Saturday.

According to information received by Khursheed, a surgery was performed on Ahmed at a hospital in Christchurch and it was successful.

Ahmed, settled in New Zealand for 15 years, stay in the same neighbourhood where the tragedy struck and runs a Hyderabadi food restaurant near Al Noor mosque. His wife and children were safe.

Khursheed plans to leave for New Zealand to see his brother.

Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has tweeted to Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, urging her to provide immediate assistance to the two families to facilitate their travel to New Zealand.

The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) chief later tweeted again to thank Sushma Swaraj for personally updating him about the efforts of the Foreign Ministry in assisting Ahmed and Ahsan’s families.

Modi launches ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign

March 16, 2019 by Nasheman

[Nasheman news] New Delhi Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched the ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign, in a counter to Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s “chowkidar chor hai” jibe.

“Your Chowkidar is standing firm and serving the nation. But, I am not alone. Everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt, social evils is a Chowkidar. Everyone working hard for the progress of India is a Chowkidar,” Modi said in a series od tweets.

“Today, every Indian is saying. Main Bhi Chowkidar,” he added.

With the tweet, the Prime Minister also shared a 3.45-minute video, urging people to particiapte in the campaign.

As part of the campaign, Modi is slated to interact with people across the country via video on March 31.

Bharatiya Janata Party sources said the campaign was launched as part of its strategy to turn the tables against Gandhi’s jibe as it did in 2014 by aggressively countering former Union Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar’s “chaiwalla” jibe.

Police registered cases against Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Indian Railway officials charging them with culpable homicide.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced Rs 5 lakh ex gratia each to the kin of deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured. He has also ordered a high level probe into the Thursday’s incident.

Railways, senior police officials, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and BMC teams were overseeing operations on Friday.

This was the third footbridge collapse in the city in the last 18 months — occurred around 7.35 p.m. as the bridge was reportedly overloaded with commuters hurrying to their homes, the BMC Disaster Control said.

New Zealand PM shows solidarity to Muslim community

March 16, 2019 by Nasheman

[Nasheman news] Christchurch A day after 49 people were killed in the horrific Christchurch mosques shootings, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Saturday showed solidarity to the Muslim community, saying “this is not the New Zealand people know”.

She made the remark during her 40-minute address at the Christchurch Canterbury Refugee Centre, where she delivered a message of unity to the country’s Islamic community, the worst affected by the bloody massacre of Friday, when gunmen opened fire at two mosques.

“You were quick to mention this is not the New Zealand that you know. I want to reaffirm that today. This is not New Zealand,” Arden, draped in a black pant-suit with a dupatta covering her head, told the Muslim leaders and the media in attendance.

“Bodies are still being removed from mosque. Emergency services are still removing bodies from the Deans Avenue mosque where 41 people were killed on Friday,” she said.

The Prime Minister hoped that all the bodies would be cleared on Saturday.

Ardern announced that families who lost their loved ones in the two shootings would be entitled to compensation.

She said police security at mosques across New Zealand would continue until “it is deemed there is no longer a threat”.

More charges would also be laid against the Australian accused of the Christchurch attacks. The 28-year-old faced court on Saturday morning and was charged with one count of murder.

“It absolutely was his intention to continue with his attack,” she said at the Centre.

Ardern has already announced that there will be changes to the country’s gun laws in the aftermath of the massacre, New Zealand Herald reported.

According to TVNZ, Ardern visited the Centre with Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters and opposition National Party leader Simon Bridges.

New Zealand’s iconic silver fern will adorn the Sydney Opera House, one of Australia’s most recognisable landmarks, on Saturday night

New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced the show of respect on her official Twitter account, saying it was a “symbol of solidarity, support and respect”.

New Zealanders have been leaving tributes to the victims near the Christchurch Botanical gardens, close to the Al Noor mosque where 41 people died, The New Zealand Herald reported.

Some have left flowers, while other have written on the pavement in coloured chalk. “From the depths of our hearts, we are sorry,” one message said.

Friday’s killing was a terrorist attack that appeared orchestrated for the social media. The brutal shootings were previewed on an infamous Internet message board and then graphically live-streamed on Facebook.

An 87-page manifesto, found by authorities after it was posted online, was filled with anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim ideas.

Will BJP back Sumalatha in Mandya? ‘When she decides, we’ll decide,’ says SM Krishna

March 15, 2019 by Nasheman

Sumalatha Ambareesh wants to contest from her late husband’s seat – and while both JD(S) and Congress have snubbed her so far, BJP may end up backing her candidature.

Will she or won’t she contest from Mandya? Sumalatha Ambareesh’s political career has been a matter of speculation for several weeks now. And on Friday, the actor gave a joint press conference along with BJP leader and former Chief Minister SM Krishna, where she praised the party and SM Krishna declared that BJP will take a call on whether the party will contest from Mandya after Sumalatha takes her decision.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, SM Krishna said that he will announce the BJP’s decision on March 18. When asked if his decision is the same as the BJP’s, the former Congressman said, “SM Krishna is not different, BJP is not different. Whatever they say, I will tell my stand on 18th. First let her clarify her stand and then I will tell.”

Sumalatha is an actor and wife of late Congress leader Ambareesh, who was an MP from Mandya thrice. After his demise in November 2018, fan clubs started pressurising Sumalatha to contest from Manyda. By February, when she made it clear that she would like to contest elections, neither the Congress nor the JD(S) encouraged this decision.

The JD(S) that wanted HD Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Gowda to make his political debut, was not willing to give the seat to Sumalatha. The JD(S) went to the extent of insulting Sumalatha, with Kumaraswamy’s brother and minister HD Revanna questioning how a widow could have political ambitions so soon after her husband’s death.

The Congress meanwhile was unhappy at the ‘rebellion’ of the wife of a late Congress leader.

Sources in the BJP say that the state BJP unit is recommending leaving the Mandya constituency blank and back Sumalatha as an independent candidate in the elections. The national leadership of the party will discuss the recommendations made by the state unit on Saturday and confirm the candidate list for south Karnataka constituencies after that.

According to sources, DK Shivakumar had told Sumalatha to not contest from Mandya and instead consider the Mysuru-Kodagu seat, which the Congress has been allocated as per the seat-sharing arrangement.

Sumalatha has said that she will make her decision official at a press conference on March 18.

‘What we saw was straight out of a movie scene’: Bangladesh team manager Khaled Mashud

March 15, 2019 by Nasheman

Police keep watch at a park across the road from a a mosque in central Christchurch, New Zealand, Friday, March 15, 2019. Multiple people were killed in mass shootings at two mosques full of people attending Friday prayers, as New Zealand police warned people to stay indoors as they tried to determine if more than one gunman was involved. (AP Photo/Mark Baker)

Bangladesh team manager Khaled Mashud said that the team was just “about 50 yards from the mosque”, which was the site of a terror attack in Christchurch on Friday. Following the attack, the third and final Test between New Zealand and Bangladesh was cancelled and Mashud told reporters that the incident they witnessed was “straight out of a movie scene”.

As the attack on the Masjid Al Noor mosque in Hagley Park took place, the team were initially barred from leaving bus but eventually made their way to the team hotel.

Speaking to reporters at the team hotel, Mashud said: “This was a kind of accident that we would never expect nor want in any part of the world. We are very lucky because we had a number of us, about 17 of us, in the bus. Soumya Sarkar was also there, and we were all heading to the mosque for prayers.

“Only two of the players had stayed back in the hotel, and rest of the squad had gone there. We were very close to the mosque, and we could see from the bus. We must have been about 50 yards from the mosque.”

Mashud narrated what took place as the team was heading to the mosque and admitted that they were “really lucky” to not be caught in the crossfire.

“I would say we were really lucky. Had we reached even three or four minutes earlier, we probably would have been inside the mosque. This could then have been a massive incident. We are very thankful that we weren’t caught in the crossfire, but what we saw was straight out of a movie scene.

“We could see bloodstained people staggering out of the mosque. Maybe in about eight-ten minutes, we were all inside the bus and were sitting with our heads bowed, just in case someone fires at us.”

Then the team escaped through the back gate to the ground and in the dressing room before they safely managed to get to the team hotel. He also confirmed that the entire team and support staff are healthy and at the hotel and that their plans to return home are being worked out.

“They have told us and will send an official mail by 6:30 in the evening. Our plan to return has also been chalked out with the people in charge of logistics,” he added.

Mashud also appreciated the New Zealand cricket board for their efforts and admitted that it was unfortunate that the third Test had to be cancelled.

‘Give me elixir, not poison’, campaigns Kumaraswamy for his son

March 15, 2019 by Nasheman

MChief minister H D Kumaraswamy, who has considered the contest of Mandya constituency seriously, trying to woo the voters emotionally, said, “I have put my son on your lap, believing the people of this district. Do not give me poison. But give me elixir.”

Kumaraswamy was addressing the public after officially declaring the name of his son Nikhil Kumaraswamy, as the alliance candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He further appealed to the people and said, “I have belief in the people of the district, who have given me the political strength. Give strength for the development of the district by supporting my son,”

“You hold my hand and I will save you. Bless us in the elections and give the strength to save you. You are the ones who reared us. I will never deceive you people. When the people of Hassan let go Deve Gowda, you are the ones who held his hand. You are the ones responsible for our growth. Today if you say ‘Go Back’, where should we go?” questioned Kumaraswamy.

JD (S) supremo  and former PM Deve Gowda clarified on the point of bringing his grandchildren to politics and said, “I have not brought my grand children to politics out of love. This is not family politics also. I have brought them to politics in order to strengthen the party in the coming days. I have utmost faith in both of my grandsons. I do not have the selfish thought of growing my family. Family inheritance is not politics. I do not condemn anyone.”

“I need not play politics by shedding tears. I do not know that kind of politics also,” clarified CM Kumaraswamy on the accusation of doing drama while announcing the name of his son Nikhil as the candidate of JD (S). He further said, “I am not gaining anything in drama or in politics by shedding tears. I am an emotional person. I am a person, who values feelings. I get tears naturally, when I see people in trouble. How someone can say it is drama? So I have decided not to cry in future.”
