My government committed to women’s safety, security: Modi

March 8, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : The central government is fully committed to women’s safety, security and empowerment for which it has rolled out several schemes, programmes and projects, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said here on Friday.

Addressing a gathering of women at a convention of the National Livelihood Mission, coinciding with the International Women’s Day, Modi said that it was his good fortune that earlier in the day he had the privilege to kickstart the work on the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, a project taken up by Ahilya Bai more than 200 years ago.

“On the International Women’s Day, I bow to women power and salute every daughter and mother in this country as they are engaged in many ways in nation building and realizing the idea of a New India,” he said.

He also referred to the bravery and valour of the Indian defence personnel and said that it were only due to the blessings of “mothers and sisters” that the soldiers were involved in protecting the nation.

Referring to Ganga river, Rani Laxmi Bai and Ahilya Bai Holkar, the Prime Minister said that all of them had a connection with Kashi and in their own ways they contributed immensely to what Kashi is known for.

While Mother Ganga provides salvation to all, Laxmi Bai sounded the bugle against the British and sowed the seeds of freedom while Holkar initiated the revamp of the Kashi Vishwanath temple, Modi said.

Many schemes of his government like providing help during pregnancy, extension of maternity leave, free immunization and provision of capital punishment for rapists were meant for women’s safety, security and empowerment.

‘Shown me my place’: Navjot Singh Sidhu

March 8, 2019 by Nasheman

Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu was missing from the list of speakers at Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s Moga rally on Thursday, March 7, 2019.

A controversy erupted after the rally of Congress president Rahul Gandhi at Moga on Thursday after Punjab local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu was not included in the list of speakers.

A miffed Sidhu said it was the first time after former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal’s rally in Amritsar in 2004 that he has not been allowed to speak. Sidhu was then Amritsar MP from the BJP.

“If I am not good enough to speak at Rahul’s rally, I am not good enough as a speaker and a campaigner. Whether I am invited to speak or not is something that is not under my control. But it has shown me my place and made it clear who all from the Congress will campaign for the party in the coming Lok Sabha polls,” Sidhu said.

Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar said Sidhu should have been among the speakers and not inviting him to speak was an oversight. “Sidhu is our party’s star campaigner. It was an oversight on part of the party. Rahul ji asked me if all had spoken, when he (Rahul) was invited to speak. I told him I do not know as I had come with him,” Jakhar said.

The event was anchored by state cooperation minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, whose department was the organiser of the debt waiver function. Randhawa said he was asked by chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh and All India Congress Committee general secretary in-charge of Punjab affairs, Asha Kumari, to name just four speakers.

“I was told that Rahul ji was getting late for another rally at Kangra in Himachal so only Jakhar, the CM, Asha Kumari and Rahul ji will speak. Had I been told Sidhu too is to be invited, I would have called him. He is our party’s star campaigner and I enjoy a good rapport with him,” Randhawa said.

Sidhu, who had prepared to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Balakot airstrikes, said he could not speak to Rahul too as the Congress president had to rush to Kangra. The Punjab chief minister and Sidhu have taken divergent stands on the airstrikes, with Sidhu questioning the BJP on the number of casualties and Amarinder saying that the “message that acts of terror would not go unpunished was more important than whether one militant was killed in the airstrikes or 100”.

“Fight for your space and don’t consider yourself less than anyone,” he said.

He also said that while around eight women are getting raped every day, only seven victims are getting justice per year.

“If Congress forms the government in Odisha, girls will get free education,” he added.

‘Match-fixing between PM, Pak’: Cong’s BK Hariprasad

March 8, 2019 by Nasheman

Congress parliamentarian from Karnataka, BK Hariprasad has stirred a controversy with his “match-fixing” comments on the Pulwama attack while attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“(Union Minister) Ravi Shankar Prasad should clarify whether there is any match-fixing between Pakistan and Narendra Modi. Without their knowledge this Pulwama incident should not have taken place. If you look at the chain of events that has taken place after Pulwama, it looks like Narendra Modi had a match-fixing with the people of Pakistan,” Hariprasad said.

Hariprasad’s comment came two days after another Congress leader, Digvijaya Singh termed Pulwama attack as an “accident”.

“The government of Jammu and Kashmir has openly admitted that it’s a total failure of intelligence that has resulted in Pulwama. They can detect beef in… Kerala House but they can’t detect RDX on a sensitive National Highway. It shows it’s a total failure of Narendra Modi’s government,” said Hariprasad, while criticising the Modi government.

Karnataka BJP general secretary N Ravikumar said Hariprasad’s comments were “highly condemnable and irresponsible”.

“He should be ashamed of making such statements. Where had he mortgaged his brain before making such a statement?” Ravikumar said.

This is not the first time Hariprasad gave a controversial comment. Earlier, in January he mocked Amit Shah when the BJP president was admitted to AIIMS in Delhi for swine flu treatment. He said Shah got flu because he tried to destabilise the Congress-JD(S) coalition government in Karnataka.

March 8, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : The Supreme Court on Friday ordered mediation to settle the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid Ayodhya title dispute case by a three-member panel.

The panel will be headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice F.M.I. Kalifulla with Art of Living founder, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and senior advocate Shriram Panchu as its members.

Ordering the mediation, the five-judge constitution bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice S.A. Bobde, Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice S. Abdul Nazeer barred both the print and visual media from reporting on the mediation proceedings.

It also barred those participating in the proceedings from speaking to the media.

The mediation proceedings would be held at Faizabad and would commence in a week.

The order pronounced by Chief Justice Gogoi did not pass any specific guidelines, leaving it to the mediators to take a call, and said that mediators could take any legal assistance that may be necessary.

The court has ordered the mediation to use the time available before the regular hearing of the matter during which all the parties to the dispute have been asked to complete the paper work relating to the dispute.

Pakistan detains 121 people from terror outfits, takes control of 182 madrasas

March 7, 2019 by Nasheman

Imran Khan

Pakistan on Thursday claimed that it has taken control of 182 seminaries and detained more than 100 people in a crackdown on banned terrorist organisations.

“Law enforcement agencies have taken 121 people under preventive detention as of today,” the ministry said in a statement,” the interior ministry said in a statement.

The religious schools, hospitals and ambulances of the terror outfits were also placed under the control of the Pakistan government.

Islamabad’s move comes amid growing international pressure in the wake of a bombing in Pulwama by Jaish-e-Mohammed, a terrorist group based in Pakistan.

New Delhi on Tuesday expressed skepticism over reports that Pakistan was cracking down on terrorist outfits and that Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar’s brother Mufti Abdul Rauf was among 44 members of banned outfits who were taken into ‘preventive detention.’

A day after promulgating a law which apparently allowed the government to take over all assets of banned outfits operating in the country, the Pakistan government said, “It was decided to speed up action against all proscribed organisations, and in compliance, 44 under-observation members of proscribed organisations, including Mufti Abdul Rauf and Hammad Azhar, have been taken in preventive detention for investigation.”

Minister of State for the Interior Sheryar Khan Afridi was quoted as saying that the names of Mufti Abdul Rauf and Hammad Azhar were mentioned in a dossier shared by India last week.

However, describing Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s repeated claims that Pakistan would not allow terrorists to operate from its soil as “old wine in a new bottle,” Indian sources said, “These are words we have heard several times. We have exactly the same statement by President Pervez Musharraf in January 2004. Our effort now will be to see demonstrable action. Pakistan is trying to divert attention from our concern over terrorism to their concern over a so-called threat from India.”

A source further warned that “all options were on the table” in case of another terrorist attack.

“If there is a naya Pakistan with a naya soch, we expect to see action on the ground. There is still a discrepancy between what they are saying and doing. Mere statements from various sources saying that the Pakistan army has done its bit and that the civilian government has not is not enough,” the source added.

For instance, “there was the strange phenomenon yesterday of the Pakistan ambassador to the US, while talking at the Institute for Peace,  claiming that there is no organized terror group in Pakistan. This is at variance with their own listings, starting with the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and going down, of terror groups in Pakistan.”

“While we are being told that hard action is being taken against the JuD and Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation, all that has been done is that they are only on the watchlist. The objective of the Pakistan government is to pretend to the international community that it is taking steps,” the source said.

The source contended that “Pakistan is trying to deflect attention by issuing various statements suggesting that India still continues to threaten Pakistan militarily.”

One killed, 30 injured in Jammu grenade attack

March 7, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : One person was killed and 30 others were injured on Thursday when a grenade rolled under a packed parked bus in Jammu’s main bus stand by a militant exploded with a thunderous explosion, police said.

The incident occurred around 11.30 a.m. when the General Bus Stand, as it is known, was teeming with people.

Inspector General of Police Manish Kumar Sinha said the grenade rolled under the parked bus that was headed to Uttarakhand.

The explosion also injured passengers in a nearby parked bus which was set to leave for Amritsar in Punjab.

One of the badly wounded civilians succumbed to his injuries in a hospital, Sinha said. He has been identified as a 20-year-old man from Uttarakhand.

“Four others have suffered critical injuries,” a police officer said.

The area was cordoned off after the explosion but the militant merged into the crowd and escaped.

Some witnesses said they initially thought the sound had been caused by a tyre burst.

“At first, we thought it was a tyre burst. But when we approached the site, we saw people lying injured and in critical condition,” said Sunil Kumar, 26.

Thursday’s is the third such attack at the Jammu General Bus Stand by militants in the last nine months.
