Three member gang Stone pelters damage BMTC bus in Kamakshipalya Bengaluru Driver injured

In a broad daylight incident,a gang of three men pelted stone at the moving BMTC bus as a result the driver sustained head injuries.

Senior officer told,The incident took place at Vigneshwaranagar bus stop in Kamakshipalya police station limits on Sunday evening.

Tension was gripped in the area for a while following the incident, kamakshipalya Inspector and staff with Hoysala patrolling police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured driver to the hospital.

The injured has been identified as Nanjundegowda,(43), a resident of Jalahalli.

The stone pelting incident took place at 4.15pm the bus was heading towards Jalahalli and three men intercepted the bus and pelted stone.

The front glass was damaged and the driver sustained severe head injuries and he was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The incident was caught on CCTV cameras and the police have identified the accused.Efforts are on to nab them a case has been registered in kamakshipalya police station and efforts are on to nab the miscreants.

Apart from instances of assault,angry protesters have pelted stones and damaged more than 97 buses,including luxury air-conditioned buses.As many as 35 buses in the Karnataka Road Transport Corporation’s (KSRTC) fleet have been pelted with stones so far.A total of 85 employees have been arrested so far.

Trio held by CCB for stocking and Black marketing of Remdesivir in Bengaluru,11 Injections bottles seized

Bengaluru CCB on Sunday conducted a special drive across Bengaluru and arrested 3 accused who were having illegal stock of the Remdesivir injection and selling at Rs 10,500,which is much higher than the MRP.11 injections bottles seized.

The accused have been identified as Rajesh and Shakeeb,who run Gurushree medicals.Case registered in Sudduguntepalya police station. Another accused Sohail,case in Madiwala Police station.

Sandeep Patil,Joint commissioner of police,Crime,told media persons,that There was news in various media and social media about hoarding and black marketing of Remdesivir injection needed for Covid treatment.

Based on the information and tip off from our informants our team conducted a special drive across city in which the team conducted raid on Gurushree Medicals in Sudduguntepalya police station limits and arrested Rajesh and Shakeeb for the possession of illegal stock of the injection and selling it in higher price more than MRP.

Another team arrested one more person in Madiwala police station limits for keeping storing illegally stock of Remdesivir injection and selling it to higher price to make easy money.

The cases have been registered against the accused in Suddaguntepalya and Madiwala police stations.The police is further investigating the source from where the doses were procured by the medical shops.

After the number of COVID-19 cases increased in Karnataka,especially in Bengaluru,the demand for Remdesivir also increased.

Remdesivir is considered a key anti-viral drug in the fight against COVID-19.Several states across the country have asked for more supplies amid the record surge in COVID-19 infections.

Karnataka on Sunday recorded its highest ever single-day coronavirus spike by logging as many as 19067 fresh cases in the span of just 24 hours.

According to the state health bulletin,the total tally reached,11,61,065,while the active cases touched 1,33,543 cases.

Three police personnel succumbed to Covid,100 tested positive in Bengaluru

Three police personnel succumbed to Covid while 100 police personnel tested covid positive and have been admitted snd quarantined in and around the city on Saturday.

While ASI rank officer from Ashoknagar and Reserve ASI from VIP security section aged 50 and 56 years respectively admitted to hospital yesterday succumed at a hospital today while 46 year old head Constable working in City Armed Reserve was admitted two days ago,breath his last,a senior officer said.

Three Corona Warriors who lost the battle against Covid are identified as,ASIs,as,Hanumanthappa,attached to Ashoknagar traffic police station,Mahadev of VIP security,and Ramachandraiah attached to City Armed Reserve police are three braveheart police personnel who succumbed to Covid19.

The total number of positives cases in the police department in city reached 102.While some admitted to hospital the others with mild symptoms were home quarentined a senior police officer,said.

The infection are on the rise and every police stations reported cases with West Division is highest of 34 cases so far.

All the police stations are being sanitized and police personnel are subjected to tests.Senior police officials counseling their staff since they are covid warriors.

Senior officers condole the death of three police personnel and said another three Brave Warriors Succumbed to Covid19 may the departed soul rest in peace and salute all the Brave Warriors fighting this tough disease to keep people fearless healthy and safe.

Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai,Karantaka DG IGP, Praveen Sood,Bengaluru Police Commissioner,Kamal Pant with other senior officers as,BR Ravikanthe Gowda, DCP Traffic East,Shantharaju KM,ACP,Sathish,PI,Kiran Kumar condole the death of three police personnel who lost their battle in fighting Covid.

And senior officers has instructed to all the police personnel to follow Covid protocol and use sanitizer masks and Covid shields and take care of their health first and to be safe while performing duty.

Inter-state drug racket busted,Two drug peddlers arrested,120.7 kg Marijuana worth Rs.54 Lakhs Seized by Hulimavu police

The southeast Division police of Hulimavu police busted an inter state drug racket and arrested two persons and seized a total of 120.7 kgs of Marijuana worth Rs 54 lakh from the accused

The accused has been identified as,Radha Ravi,29,and Palani Velu,38 both resident of Tamilnadu.

Both the accused were sourcing drugs from  Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh,and were storing it in Krishnagiri  in Tamilnadu before smuggling it into the city and selling it to the college students on Bannerghatta road.

Senior officer told media persons,that as on 12th April our Hulimavu police inspector Mahesh Kanakagiri received a credible information from his inputs that near Bannerghatta road Christ college a person is selling drugs to college students.

Based on a tip off the Hulimavu police inspector and his team rushed to the spot and kept a close watch on the person and when he was trying to sell Marijuana drugs to Christ college students our team caught him red handed and after checking his bag they found 3.7 kg Marijuana in his possession.

And for the possession of drugs our team arrested Radha Ravi,29,a construction labourer red handed on Monday.

After arresting the accused the team questioned him and a detailed Investigation led the accused to confessed the crime.

The team grilled him and the accused spilled the beans Based on his information the police team headed by PSI,Chidanand and team rushed to Neralagiri village in Krishnagiri and arrested Palani Velu,38, from whom Ravi was sourcing the drugs.

The police team interrogated him who spilled and based on his statement later seized 117 kilograms of Marijuana which he had stored in a pump house near lake in the village.

A detailed investigation by the team it has revealed that Palani,an agricultural labourer ganged up with his associate Mouli and started peddling drus to make quick money.

They contacted their associate Somesh from Vishakhapatnam and bought 120 kgs of Marijuana for Rs 25,000.

They used Radha Ravi,a construction labourer for peddling the drugs in the city to students and employees and construction labourers intended to sell one kilo of Marijuana for Rs 45,000.

The accused Radha Ravi would source the drugs into the city in a goods and vegetable vans from Tamilnadu in small quantity and sell it to his customers until the Hulimavu police got the tip off and nabbed the duo.

Both the accused has been booked under NDPS Act and further investigation is on to nab their associate and ascertain their network.

Finally Bengaluru Police Commissioner,Kamal Pant has appreciated Addl CP East,S Murugan, DCP Southeast,Srinath Mahadev Joshi, ACP,Pavan N,PI,Mahesh Kanakagiri,PSIs,as, Chidanand Navi,Mehaboob Guddali,and their crime staff as,Parameshwar,Sathish Kumar,Chowdalingaiah TM,Mahaveer Shirahati,Kedharlinga Tambe and Ashok has been appreciated for the exemplary work done by them in nabbing the duo and seizing 120.7kg Marijuana from them and a suitable reward will be given to the team for the tremendous job done by them he added.

Noted Kannada lexicographer Prof G Venkatasubbaiah passes away in Bengaluru

He was awarded the prestigious Padmashri, Pampa award and also  Kendra Sahitya Akademi’s literary honour ‘Basha Sanman’ for south zone. 

BENGALURU: Professor G Venkatasubbaiah, lexicographer passed away at a Bengaluru private hospital early on Monday. He was 107.

The eight volumes of the Kannada dictionary is about 10,000 pages long. Prof G Venkatasubbiah along with other experts developed it on par with the Oxford dictionary. 

From traditional to the new era Kannada, he successfully documented the richness of the language. He was awarded the prestigious Padmashri, Pampa award and also  Kendra Sahitya Akademi’s literary honour ‘Basha Sanman’ for south zone. 

He had presided over the 77th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana held in Bengaluru in 2011.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and other ministers condoled his demise.

Starting 10 pm tonight, Delhi to be under lockdown till Monday morning

The Delhi government on Monday announced a six-day lockdown in the national capital to help break the chain.

Addressing the residents, CM Arvind Kejriwal said, “Delhi is faring well in tests per million but is seeing a dearth of key drugs and hospital beds. Delhi’s health system is under intense stress, we have to reverse this,” he said adding, we will have a lockdown for six days from tonight.

Kejriwal also emphasised that he has always been against the lockdown but the current situation has forced him to save the health sector.

He appealed to the migrant workers to stay in Delhi with folded hands. “You will waste your time, money and energy if you scramble to leave the city. I request you to stay put in Delhi,” Kejriwal

On Monday morning, the Delhi government deployed two teams of officers to monitor procurement and supply of oxygen and the Remdesivir drug amid a shortage of both following an exponential rise in COVID-19 cases here.

The national capital on Sunday recorded the biggest jump in its daily COVID-19 tally with 25,462 fresh cases, while the positivity rate shot up to 29.74 per cent.

Earlier, Kejriwal wrote toPrime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal urging them to ramp up bed capacity in central government- run hospitals and to ensure “uninterrupted” supply of medical oxygen.

“The Covid situation has become very serious in Delhi. There is a huge shortage of beds and oxygen. I request that at least 7,000 out of 10,000 beds in central government hospitals in Delhi be reserved for Covid patients and oxygen be immediately provided in Delhi,” he wrote to the PM.

Madhya Pradesh to set up oxygen plants in 37 districts amid uncontrolled COVID-19 surge

BHOPAL: Battling with shortage of life-saver oxygen amid the surging COVID-19 second wave, Madhya Pradesh will establish oxygen production plants in 37 districts.

“In 37 districts of the state, oxygen production plants will be established. The Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of the PWD Department has been asked to select locations in all the 37 districts and set up the units within one to three months for meeting future requirements,” official sources associated with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Sunday.

As per official sources the state is presently getting Rs 390 metric tonnes oxygen daily, against the daily requirement of 347 metric tonnes.

The oxygen supply to the state with central government’s help will be increased to 445 metric tonnes by April 20, 565 metric tonnes by April 25 and 700 metric tonnes by April 30.

The state government also decided on Sunday to invoke National Security Act (NSA) against all those indulging in black marketing of the anti-viral Remdesivir injections.

“Any lab, hospital and associated individuals caught indulging in Remdesivir injections black marketing will have to face action under the NSA,” sources added.

Meanwhile, addressing the state on Sunday evening, the CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said while private and government hospitals as well as COVID Care Centers in the 52 districts have presently 40,784 COVID dedicated beds, the capacity will be increased to 50,000 beds by month end.

Out of the 68,576 active patients presently, around 45,000 are being treated in home isolation.

Also, the state has so far procured one lakh Remdesivir injections which are being supplied to government and private hospitals. An additional 12,000 injections were procured from a Hyderabad-headquartered pharma company on Sunday. These injections were flown by chopper and state plane to various parts of the state.

Meanwhile, the state reported 12,248 new positive cases at 22.8% and 66 deaths officially during the last 24 hours. A total 7495 patients officially recovered from the viral infection during the same period. With this the state so far has 68,576 active patients.

Covid-19 Update India adds 2,73,810 COVID cases, 1,619 deaths

India’s total tally of COVID-19 cases crossed the 1.50-crore mark with around 25 lakh cases being added in just 15 days, while active cases surpassed the 19-lakh mark, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday. Incidentally, the active cases was up for  40th day in a row reaching 19,29,329 cases, comprising 12.81 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has dropped to 86 per cent.

At present, India has totally vaccinated 12,38,52,566 people.

According to the ICMR,  26,78,94,549 samples have been tested up to April 18 with 13,56,133  samples being tested on Sunday.

The 1,619 new fatalities include 503 from Maharashtra, 170 from Chhattisgarh, 161 from Delhi, 127 from Uttar Pradesh, 110 from Gujarat, 81 from Karnataka, 68 from Punjab, 66 from  Madhya Pradesh, 50 from Jharkhand, 42 each from Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, 29 from Haryana, 28 from West Bengal and 25 from Kerala.

A total of 1,78,769 deaths have been reported so far in the country including 60,473 from Maharashtra, 13,351 from Karnataka, 13,113 from Tamil Nadu, 12,121 from Delhi, 10,568 from West Bengal, 9,830 from Uttar Pradesh, 7,902 from Punjab and 7,410 from Andhra Pradesh.

Rajasthan announces 15-day lockdown with exemptions

JAIPUR: In view of the growing coronavirus cases, a lockdown has been imposed in Rajasthan from April 19 to May 3rd with some exemptions. However, the Ashok Gehlot government has named it ‘jan anushasan  pakhwada’ (Public Discipline Fortnight). During this time, all government offices except the essential services will be closed. Markets, workplaces and cinemas will also remain shut. The construction sector is allowed to carry on in order to stop the migration of labourers.

The Chief Minister soon carried out an open review and decided to put a lockdown late in the night. “The government will take strict steps to curb the Corona surge in the state. The way the infections are rising along with the death rate is alarming. People need to follow the guidelines of the government and the instructions of the medical professionals strongly”, said Gehlot in a press release.

In smaller cities where the infection is less, the weekend curfew can be reduced to two to three days.

The pandemic situation in the state of Rajasthan is turning grim. As the number of cases continue to surge, the state recorded 10,514  new positive cases on Sunday including 42 deaths. Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur and Kota have emerged as the major hotspots of Corona infection. The total number of Corona deaths in the state has now risen to 3151 while the number of active cases has gone beyond 67000. 

BSY calls for an emergency meet over COVID crisis, imposes new restrictions but no lockdown in Karnataka

BENGALURU: Chief minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday morning called for an emergency meeting on the COVID19 situation in Karnataka following which a set of new restrictions and orders were decided upon.

“Cases are increasing by the day and we reviewed the situation in the meeting. Night curfew will continue but no other decision has been made. Depending on what Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggests and what action other States are taking, we will decide on the next course of action. A meeting will be held on April 20, when night curfew ends, to decide on its extension and expansion,” BS Yediyurappa said.

Minister for Health Dr K Sudhakar, however, said that a few new decisions, including seeking additional oxygen cylinders from Central government, restricting number of people at gatherings and reservation of hospital beds for COVID19 patients, were taken at the meeting.

Indoor events cannot have more than 100 people while gathering for outdoor events has been capped at 200 persons only instead of the earlier 500 limit. Corporate hospitals have been asked to tie up with at least 10 hotels nearby to convert them as makeshift isolation and treatment centres for patients with mild and moderate symptoms. Only those with severe and serious symptoms to be admitted to hospitalised

“About 95% of COVID19 patients do not need hospitalisation. It is my humble appeal to patients with mild and moderate symptoms to get treated, if you have to, in these makeshift hospitals at hotels. The same doctors who treat at hospitals will supervise you there as well. Some 3000 beds will be arranged in these hotel-turned-hospitals,” said Dr Sudhakar, Health and Medical Education minister.

About 50 per cent of beds in private hospitals have to be reserved for COVID19 patients referred from the government. 1000 beds in government medical colleges and 5000 in private medical colleges will be reserved for COVID19 patients.

One IPS officer, one IAS officer, officials from BWSSB, BESCOM and Suvarna Karnataka trust will be appointed as Nodal officials to supervise admissions in each big hospital. “The officials will ensure smooth admission and treatment process at all times for patients. They will take shifts and one of them will be at the hospital at any given point in time,” Sudhakar added.

Hearse vehicles and crematorium services will be extended at no cost for families of COVID19 victims.

Adding that there is no shortage of Remdesivir in the State, the minister said tender has been called for another 80,000 vials for procurement. The State will also submit a request to the union government for the supply of 5000 oxygen cylinders.

An agreement for jumbo cylinders will be made with commercial oxygen suppliers too to ensure there is no shortage. Direct recruitment on a contract basis for the next six months will be ensured to hire Doctors, nurses and paramedical staff. Hand stamping for patients in home isolation will be restarted apart from increasing testing and tracing processes. “We appeal to people to practise janata curfew voluntarily and help us bring down the number of cases,” Sudhakar said.
