Delhi Election 2020: Amit Shah Says “Nehru, Gandhi Promised Citizenship To Pakistan’s Minorities”

February 4, 2020 by Nasheman

Delhi Election 2020: Amit Shah Says 'Nehru, Gandhi Promised Citizenship To Pakistan's Minorities'

New Delhi:  Delhi Election 2020: BJP leader Amit Shah tore into Congress and AAP over the anti-CAA protests

BJP leader Amit Shah on Monday claimed that former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru had promised citizenship to minorities from Pakistan but the Congress is now protesting the amended citizenship law because it is “afraid of its vote bank in Shaheen Bagh”.

Addressing an election rally in support of the BJP candidate from Rajinder Nagar, RP Singh, he said the February 8 elections were no longer for electing assembly members and a chief minister, but were a contest between two ideologies.

“On one hand, there are people who stand with Shaheen Bagh and on the other hand, there are people who enter Pakistan and avenge the death of our soldiers,” he said.

In his rallies, Amit Shah has been raising the issue of a sit-in by anti-CAA protesters at Shaheen Bagh in Delhi since December 15, asking people to vote for the BJP to show their disapproval for the stir.

On the issue of CAA, he said, “Former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Rajendra Prasad, Maulana Azad, they all promised to give citizenship to Pakistani minorities whenever they come to India.”

“But, when I brought in a bill to give citizenship to them, the Congress reneged on its promise and is now protesting the CAA because they are afraid of their vote bank in Shaheen Bagh,” he said.

“In Shaheen Bagh, the protesters are raising the slogans of ‘Jinnah wali azadi’… which freedom are you taking about? India attained Independence in 1947. Now, no one can divide it,” Mr Shah said.

The Home Minister alleged that the AAP government protected those who raised anti-national slogans at Jawaharlal Nehru University.

On Sharjeel Imam’s “cut-off-Assam-from-India” remark, Amit Shah said for 12 days, he had been asking Arvind Kejriwal if he would give sanction to prosecute the JNU student, but “he hasn’t uttered a word”.

The BJP leader said Arvind Kejriwal’s government promised to install 15 lakh CCTVs, but only 1.5 lakh could be installed, and that too with the help of the Centre’s grant. “Kejriwal promised to deploy commandos in buses (for safety of women). But in reality, he made AAP workers wear commando uniform,” he alleged.

“He said the Yamuna will be cleaned. I challenged Kejriwal to take a dip in the river at 8 am on Tuesday,” he said.

Amit Shah also accused the Aam Aadmi Party chief of stonewalling the implementation of ‘Ayushman Bharat’ scheme in the national capital and delaying the work to regularise the unauthorised colonies.

February 4, 2020 by Nasheman

Coronavirus: The viral disease, which has killed 450 people in China where it originated in December, was declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organisation last week as it spread to more than 20 countries.

How Kerala Is Fighting Coronavirus After Declaring It 'State Calamity'

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala confirmed first three cases of coronavirus in the last three days.

Kerala has stepped up efforts in fight against the lethal disease caused by Novel Coronavirus- declared a “state calamity” on Monday- after confirming first three cases in India in the last five days. More than 40,000 health officials, government employees, ground staff have been mobilised for three hugely challenging tasks – surveillance, contact tracing and counselling.

China virus death toll rises above 420

Sixty-four new deaths were confirmed on Tuesday — surpassing Monday’s record to post the new biggest daily increase since the virus was detected late last year in the central city of Wuhan.

All three coronavirus patients in Kerala are students who returned from China’s Wuhan city – the epicentre of outbreak – last month. They are admitted in three different hospitals in north Kerala’s Kasaragod, Central Kerala’s Thrissur and south Kerala’s Alappuzha. Twenty-eight isolation facilities have been prepared in the state – two from each district.

In the last three days, over 80 people – who came in direct contact with the three coronavirus patients – have been traced and placed under observation at hospitals and isolation wards. Over 2,230 people are under watch across the state; around 75 of them are in isolation wards and rest of them have been quarantined at homes.

“Co-ordination is being carried out at a mammoth scale. The health department has over 40,000 employees. There are forty other state government departments – animal husbandry, revenue. Several departments will be working together. This goes all the way down to the 1,200 local self government institutions, right till the ground level”, Rajan Khobragade, State Health Principal Secretary, explained to NDTV. The Rapid Response Team in Trivandrum is chaired by the state health minister herself.

Sources have confirmed that health officials in Kerala sought support from the civil aviation ministry and details of passengers who traveled with the affected three students fron Wuhan before the screenings began at airports across the country. Over 50,000 passengers across the country were screened at airports across the country till Saturday, Union Health Ministry said.

Contact tracing begins with a detailed interview of the patients, helping them recall as as many details of people they came in direct contact with. Details can be location specific, names of places they visited or people they met.

More than 600 people were evacuated by India from Wuhan, where they were locked down amid outbreak, over the weekend. “Most students studying at Wuhan are from Kerala and that’s why we have been making these mass appeals, intensifying all our measures to contain any possible spread. While people are responding to our appeals very well. If there are people who do not co-operate, we may be forced to take action”, KK Shailaja, Kerala’s Health Minister has said.

On Monday, Kerala declared coronavirus a “state calamity”. This would mean ‘all hands on deck’, officials said. “All leaves have been cancelled , seven district collectors were to leave for Mussoorie for their training. Now, they have been asked to stay back. It’s about streamlining the government machinery to break the chain of contact,” state health minister said.

There is a special designated team of doctors and counsellors who have been personally calling the people under isolation at homes or at hospital.

So far, they have personally called and counselled 372 people, giving them specific numbers to call back at any point if they are anxious or fearful about anything.

“We call people, reassure them, give them a number that they can call back on anytime if they deal with anxiety, sleeplessness. This number is functional 24×7. We already had 105 counsellors posted in 10 districts affected by floods in the last two years. So this positioned us in a much better way to reach out to effected families for counselling”, Dr Kiran, the nodal officer for mental health in the state, told.

CBSE conducts the annual board exams for 30,000 subject combinations.

The Board, one of the biggest in the country, has been proactively working to ensure that students and parents do not face any sort of inconvenience.

Regarding rumors and baseless social media messages on board exams, CBSE has warned that mischievous elements, that are spreading wrong information, can face legal actions if any such incident comes to its notice.

To help students deal with exam stress, the Board has started counselling session. This is the 23rd consecutive year, the Board will provide free of cost psychological counselling to students appearing for board exams.

Teachers have also given valuable suggestions to students to cope with exam anxiety.

“To deal with exam stress, students must follow some valuable tips which include allocating time for breaks, having proper diet & sleep, practicing sample papers,” said Alka Kapur, Principal, Modern Public School, Shalimar Bagh, New Delhi. “One should not compare or assess one’s score or performance with friends,” she added.

Students are ready for the exam, which is due to begin in 11 days.

“The preparations are in full swing and it is obvious that there is nervousness. Though parents are really supportive, the burden of revision and to score well is always there. At the same time I am feeling confident because of the series of exams that were conducted through the year. In the end, it is best to adopt a strategy of studying the whole year and dedicate time everyday to save yourself from the exam pressure,” said a class 10 student from Rohini.

RAJPUR: In a Red zone of Bastar in south Chhattisgarh, a different battle is being fought to tackle the vector-borne disease ‘Malaria’, which so far hasn’t received much attention. Bastar has an Annual Parasite Incidence (API) (malaria) of over 10 — rated among the highest in the country.

API-10 is equivalent to 10 confirmed cases per thousand population and Bastar is among the very few geographical locations endemic to malaria parasites—Plasmodium vivax and P. falciparum.

Even today, 65 per cent of malaria cases are being reported from Bastar. Hence, the state has now meticulously embarked upon a plan to eliminate Malaria from Bastar through door-to-door ‘Mass Active Screening and Treatment’ process, which will continue till February 14 under the ‘Malaria-Free Bastar’ campaign.’ Interestingly around 88 per cent are women engaged in the campaign.

As many as 1720 health survey teams are examining the blood of over 14 lakh people through Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDT). The patients are given free medical treatment along with medicines and a follow-up. Those found in serious conditions are shifted to health centres.

“Malaria remains a serious public health concern in Bastar. Besides the Maoist threat, the inhospitable terrain and lack of attention to health issues were hindrances to counter Malaria. We have now started an extensive campaign to combat malaria in the area,”  said Health minister T S Singhdeo.Every tribal hamlet, ashrams, schools, residential Pota cabins, jails and even camps of para-military forces are being scanned.

Coronavirus outbreak: Death toll in China rises to 360, exceeds SARS mainland figures

February 3, 2020 by Nasheman

The number of total infections in China’s coronavirus outbreak has passed 17,200 nationwide with 2,829 new cases confirmed, the National Health Commission said on Monday.

BEIJING: China’s death toll from the coronavirus epidemic soared to 360 on Monday, with deepening global concern about the outbreak and governments closing their borders to people from China.

The number of total infections in China’s coronavirus outbreak has passed 17,200 nationwide with 2,829 new cases confirmed, the National Health Commission said on Monday.

The fresh toll came a day after China imposed a lockdown on a major city far from the epicentre and the first fatality outside the country was reported in the Philippines.

Authorities in Hubei, the province at the epicentre of the outbreak, reported 56 new fatalities. That took the toll in China to 360, exceeding the 349 mainland fatalities from the 2002-3 SARS outbreak.

Struggling to contain the virus, authorities took action in the eastern city of Wenzhou on Sunday, closing roads and confining people to their homes.

Wenzhou is some 800 kilometres (500 miles) from Wuhan, the metropolis at the heart of the health emergency.

Since emerging out of Wuhan late last year, the new coronavirus has infected more than 16,400 people across China and reached 24 nations.

The G7 countries — Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States — have all confirmed cases of the virus. They will discuss a joint response, Germany’s health minister Jens Spahn said on Sunday.

In Thailand, which has 19 confirmed cases, doctors said Sunday an elderly Chinese patient treated with a cocktail of flu and HIV drugs had shown dramatic improvement and tested negative for the virus 48 hours later.

Most of the infections overseas have been detected in people who travelled from Wuhan, an industrial hub of 11 million people, or surrounding areas of Hubei province.

The man who died in the Philippines was a 44-year-old from Wuhan, according to the World Health Organization, which has declared the epidemic a global health emergency.

China has embarked on unprecedented efforts to contain the virus, which is believed to have jumped to humans from a Wuhan animal market, and can be transmitted among people.

China’s efforts have included extraordinary quarantines in Wuhan and surrounding cities, with all transport out banned, effectively sealing off more than 50 million people.

But 10 days after locking down Wuhan, authorities imposed similar draconian measures on Wenzhou, a coastal city of nine million people in Zhejiang province, part of the eastern industrial heartland that has powered China’s economic rise over recent decades.

Only one resident per household is allowed to go out every two days to buy necessities, and 46 highway toll stations have been closed, authorities announced.

The city had previously closed public places such as cinemas and museums, and suspended public transport.

Zhejiang has 661 confirmed infections, with 265 of those in Wenzhou, according to the government.

This is the highest tally for any province in China after ground-zero Hubei.

The United States, Australia, New Zealand and Israel have banned foreign nationals from visiting if they have been in China recently, and they have also warned their own citizens against travelling there.

Mongolia, Russia and Nepal have closed their land borders.

The number of countries reporting infections rose to 24 after Britain, Russia and Sweden confirmed their first cases this weekend.

There were 2,103 new confirmed cases in hardest-hit Hubei province on Monday, bringing the total infected to more than 16,480.

With hospitals in Wuhan overwhelmed, China will open a military-led field hospital Monday that was built in just 10 days to treat people stricken by the virus.

And with the Chinese economy suffering, the central bank announced it would release 1.2 trillion yuan ($173 billion) on Monday to maintain liquidity in the banking system — the day markets re-open after the long holiday break.

The emergence of the virus coincided with the Lunar New Year, when hundreds of millions travel across the country in planes, trains and buses for family reunions.

The holiday, which was scheduled to end on Friday, was extended by three days to give authorities more time to deal with the crisis.

With many due back at work on Monday, people were starting to return on planes and trains over the weekend, with almost everyone wearing face masks.

Customs authorities had ordered temperature checks at all exit-entry points in Beijing, according to state media.

Returning travellers were being checked and registered at residential compounds, while fever checks were in place in subway stations, offices and cafes.

One 22-year-old arriving at a Beijing train station from northeastern China said her family had urged her to delay her return.

“But I was worried it would affect my job,” she said.

Security guard Du Guiliang, 47, said he would be starting back at work in Beijing on Sunday, after returning from northeast Liaoning province.

“Many colleagues (from Hubei) couldn’t come back. Now, those who work the day shift at our company have to do the night shift as well,” he said.

Many businesses were to remain closed for at least another week, however, while some major cities — including Shanghai — had also extended the holiday.

After Arnab Goswami, Postcard News founder Mahesh Vikram Hegde ‘heckled’ at Mangaluru airport

February 1, 2020 by Nasheman

Karnataka Congress spokesperson Kavitha Reddy, along with two student activists, spotted Mahesh and started asking him questions.

Postcard News founder Mahesh Vikram Hegde in the video

MANGALURU: On  Friday morning, three social workers confronted Mahesh Vikram Hegde, founder of website Postcard News, at Mangaluru International Airport and urged him to sing ‘Vande Mataram’ to prove his ‘Indian-ness’.

A video of this incident has gone viral on social media. The incident reportedly occurred around 8:15am Friday. Karnataka Congress spokesperson and social worker Kavitha Reddy, along with two student activists, spotted Mahesh while he was waiting to board a flight to Bengaluru.

We were to board an IndiGo flight from Mangaluru. On spotting Mahesh, we approached him and started asking questions politely. It was just a normal conversation. He was smiling for a while, but then he called someone to rescue him from the situation, and fled within less than 10 minutes into the conversation.”

She added, “He abuses everyone through his website. He heckles and abuses women on TV shows. He once tweeted that those who cannot sing Vande Mataram are anti-nationals. So, we wanted to give it back to him politely.”

Student social activists Amulya Leona and Najma Nazeer, who were with Reddy, also confronted Hegde. In the video, they can be heard questioning Hegde, “At what time did Godse kill Gandhi? Do you remember?” “You have been torturing us on Facebook,” one of the women can be heard saying.

Najma Nazeer criticises Hegde, saying that his website spreads fake news. It may be recalled that Hegde has been arrested twice earlier for allegedly spreading fake news. She also told him that the country’s youngsters are losing their lives as they are falling for propaganda. This comes just days after comedian Kunal Kamra heckled editor-in-chief and co-founder of Republic TV Arnab Goswami aboard an IndiGo flight. When TNIE tried to contact Hegde for his comment, he remained unavailable.
