10-year-old girl shot by man for calling his gun a toy

January 10, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : A 10-year-old girl was allegedly shot by a middle-aged man when she asked him if his gun was real or a toy in Paltha village of Sambhal district on Tuesday evening. The accused man was arrested by police and sent to jail on Wednesday and the injured girl is undergoing treatment.

The minor girl’s father, Ajay Pal Maurya, and mother were working in the fields when the girl and her brother were playing in a nearby ground, according to a report in The Times of India. The girl asked the accused, who was identified as Vidya Ram, if the gun he was carrying was a toy after which he aimed the gun at her and pulled the trigger.

Reportedly, the bullet injured the girl’s right hand and stomach. Maurya rushed to the spot to find his daughter lying on the ground while Ram had fled. The minor girl was shifted to a community hospital nearby where is being administered treatment. The doctors said that the girl is out of danger.

Brijendra Singh, station house officer, Kurh Fatehgarh, said that after the girl’s father filed a complaint, the police started a search operation to catch the accused. A tip-off helped the police trace Ram at a barber shop at Khataita tri-junction area. On reaching the barber’s shop, the police arrested the accused and seized his gun. An FIR has been lodged against Ram under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

If ready for talks with Taliban, why not Kashmiri separatists? ask Omar and Mehbooba

Former chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday wondered why the Centre was not initiating a dialogue with the separatists in Jammu and Kashmir if Army chief General Bipin Rawat could bat for holding talks with the Taliban in Afghanistan.

“We bat for talks with taliban, autonomy for Tibet & Tamil areas of Sri Lanka yet we are unwilling to look at engagement or political initiatives in J&K. Why is our policy all about “do as we say, don’t do as we do”? Engagement for Taliban, Operation All-Out for Kashmir,” Abdullah tweeted.

Earlier in the day, Rawat said there should be talks with the Taliban to bring peace in Afghanistan, but asserted that the engagement must be without any preconditions. He was speaking at the Raisina Dialogue — India’s flagship conference on geopolitics — in Delhi.

“If the Army Chief can advocate for talks with (the) Taliban then why different standards when it comes to our own people?” Mehbooba asked in a tweet.

The Peoples Democratic Party president said the Centre should accept the offer of talks by Pakistan and also start a dialogue process with the Hurriyat Conference to end the cycle of violence in the state.

“Accept peace offer from Pakistan, initiate dialogue with (the) Hurriyat and other stakeholders put an end to the vicious cycle of violence in J&K,” she added.

Jharkhand High Court rejects Lalu’s bail plea

January 10, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : The Jharkhand High Court on Thursday rejected the bail plea of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad in a multi-million fodder scam case.

The high court had reserved verdict on the bail plea on January 4.

After Justice Apresh Kumar Singh rejected the bail, RJD leaders said they would move the Supreme Court to challenge the court order.

Senior apex court lawyer Kapil Sibal had pleaded for Prasad’s bail citing the health condition and age of the RJD chief. He also produced a certificate from a Mumbai hospital and listed the diseases Prasad is suffering from, adding that he was granted bail in three other cases in which he was convicted.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) lawyer opposed the bail.

Prasad was convicted on December 23, 2017 in a case of fraudulent withdrawal from Deoghar treasury. He was out on provisional bail in May last year for treatment but surrendered in August after the high court asked him to.

Prasad has been convicted in four cases and awarded 14-year jail term in the fodder scam case. Currently, he is undergoing treatment in the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS), Ranchi.

GST Composition Scheme: Rs 1.5 cr threshhold from 2019-20

January 10, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : In a further relief to the micro, small and medium (MSME) sector, the threshhold limit for eligibility under the GST Composition Scheme was raised to Rs 1.5 crore, from Rs 1 crore, by the GST Council on Thursday and will apply from the 2019-20 fiscal beginning April 1.

“We had raised the Composition Scheme limit to Rs 1.5 crore. The decision will be applicable from April 1, 2019,” Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told reporters here after chairing the 32nd meeting of the GST Council.

Those opting for the Composition Scheme pay a minimal Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 1 per cent.

In an easing of the compliance burden, the GST Council also decided that those opting for the scheme would need to file their returns only once a year, Jaitley said. The tax payment mode, however, would continue to be on a quarterly basis.

This facility will also be also applicable from April 1.

In a third decision, the GST Council also made small service providers, and those providing a mix of goods and services, with a turnover of up to 50 lakhs, eligible for the Composition Scheme.

With Thursday’s decision, service and mixed goods and service providers will be entitled to avail the benefit on payment of GST at 6 per cent, Jaitley said.

January 10, 2019 by Nasheman

According to reports, several members of the Congress party were not content with the appointments, and several showed resentment over the CM’s choices. Following this, on Wednesday, the chief minister appointed four Congress legislators for posts which had yet to be filled.

Easing tensions to some extent, Kumaraswamy’s new appointees are reportedly thought to pacify Congress members who are upset with the coalition head’s previous decisions.

NA Haris, MLA of Shantinagar, has been appointed the chairman of the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), ST Somashekar, MLA from Yeshwanthpur, has been made the chairman of the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA). The other two appointed members are SN Subba Reddy, Bagepalli MLA, as chairman of Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation, and Abbaya Prasad, the Hubballi-Dharwad West MLA as the head of the Dr Babu Jagjivan Ram Leather Industries Development Corporation.

It has also been reported that the CM has yet to decide on an appointee for the position of chairman of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, though the Congress wanted the title to go to Chikaballapur MLA K Sudhakar. Along with him, Doddaballapur MLA Venkataramanaiah, too was not allocated a post.

“The party high command has cleared my name and it is now up to the Congress to give me the post,” Sudhakar told media.

CM Kumaraswamy laments compulsion to follow Congress diktat

January 10, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News :  “I have been running the government like a tight rope walk. I am compelled to follow the wishes of Congress party. I alone can feel the pain I am going through. Still, I have been tolerating everything and moving ahead,” lamented chief minister (CM), H D Kumaraswamy speaking at the JD(S) legislature party meeting held here on Tuesday.

He laid bare the day-to-day pressure he has been handling in running the government. At the same time, he expressed his resolve to remain silent on all issues till the Lok Sabha election, and asked the party functionaries to cooperate with him. He also turned emotional when speaking, at which he was consoled by his father and JD(S) national president, H D Deve Gowda.

Deve Gowda has barred party leaders from airing their grievances openly relating to the coalition government. He reiterated this at the said meeting too, sources said. Speaking to media persons after holding a preparatory meeting relating to Lok Sabha election at the party office on Wednesday January 9, Deve Gowda said that he has asked party leaders not to behave or talk in a way that adversely affects the standing of the coalition government. He also said that a decision about entering into understanding for Lok Sabha election with other parties will be taken at the national executive being convened on January 20 and 30. “We have joined hands with the Left Front in Kerala and Congress in Karnataka. Therefore a decision on electoral understanding will be taken at the executive. As of now, the coalition government does not face any major issue. There are minor issues which would be sorted out in normal course. Leaders of both the parties will sit together and settle these issues,” he explained.

‘C/O Kancharapalem’ rejected for national award over foreign producer

January 10, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : Telugu independent film ‘C/O Kancharapalem’, which wowed audiences and critics alike last year, has been denied nomination for National Award because it has been produced by Praveena Paruchuri, a US citizen of Indian origin.

Directed by Venkatesh Maha, the film revolves around four stories of love and longing, set in a small town.

On Wednesday, Praveena took to twitter to express her disappointment.

“So sorry Venkatesh Maha. Care of Kancharapalem, your hard work and talent is not eligible to be recognized at the Indian National Film Awards because it was produced by me – a US citizen although of Indian origin. I failed you (sic),” she wrote.

Netizens were quick to shower support and express their disappointment over the film being ineligible for the honour. They also reminded her that the film had won the hearts of the people.

Responding to Praveena’s tweet, Maha replied via a tweet: “It’s not you Praveena; it’s the outdated rules and regulations of our country. I don’t understand why an Indian film, made by an Indian director, in India, acted by Indians and for Indian audience is not eligible for Indian National Awards (sic).”

He also tagged the Directorate of Film Festivals and said that it was ‘time for change.’

Made on a shoestring budget and featuring over 70 debutant actors, ‘C/O Kancharapalem’ emerged as one of the most loved Indian films last year.

Before its theatrical release in 2018, it had its world premiere at the New York Indian Film Festival.
