Speaking to young people of various faiths, the President of the All India Imam association, Dr Imam Umer Ahmed Ilyasi emphasized on the need for greater religious literacy in Indian society to counter prejudice and extremism. “The All India Imam association”is the all India body of Imams in the country

“India being a great friend of Israel and we being the world’s second largest Muslim population of 200 million Muslims can take an initiative in bringing peace to the Middle East. Indian Muslims are highly secular and being in a country which gave 4 religions to the world Buddhism, Sikhism, Jainism and Hinduism ,gives us Indian Muslims an edge to look at things from a Non-Arab perspective which is the real need of the hour.” Said Dr Imam Ilyasi.

Talking about the event, Dr Ilyasisaid “Such events are very important for the Muslims to integrate with Jewish culture and understand more about Israel.

The Muslims members who participated in the event were progressive minded influencers and thinkers from the society, who will contribute to a great extent by educating the ignorant masses about the advantages of developing Jewish-Muslim friendship and it’s abrahamic origins for economic and strategic advantage.

“I have myself visited Israel and it is an amazing country with a history of Islam, Christianity and Judaism blending together. Muslims of India will add lot of value to the peace process of the Middle East” said Dr Imam Umer Ahmed Ilyasi

Israel and India have cooperation in Defense, Agriculture, IT and Innovation and together have a great future considering their common interests.

Mohammed bin Salman named Saudi Arabia’s crown prince

June 21, 2017 by Nasheman

Saudi king replaces first in line to the throne with his son, Mohammed bin Salman, the defence chief, state media says.

Mohammed bin Salman

by Al Jazeera

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has appointed his son, Mohammed bin Salman, as heir, in a major reshuffle announced early on Wednesday.

A royal decree removed Crown Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, a 57-year-old nephew of the king, as next-in-line to the throne and replaced him with Mohammed bin Salman, 31, who was previously the deputy crown prince.

According to the official Saudi Press Agency, the newly announced crown prince was also named deputy prime minister and maintained his post as defence minister.

The former crown prince was also fired from his post as interior minister, the decree said.

The series of decrees also amended Article V of the kingdom’s statute of ruling, stipulating that, from now on, only the sons and grandsons of the founding King Faisal Al Saud can be kings and crown princes.

The decision by King Salman to promote his son and consolidate his power was endorsed by 31 out of 34 members of the Allegiance Council, the decree said.

The council is made up of senior members of the ruling Al Saud family.

The Saudi king called for a public pledging of allegiance to the new crown prince early on Wednesday, the channel said.

Mohammed bin Nayef promptly vowed loyalty to his successor after the decree.

Restructuring power

Mohammed bin Salman has risen to power under his father’s reign. He had previously been in charge of his father’s royal court when Salman was the crown prince.

Over the weekend, the king had issued a decree restructuring Saudi Arabia’s system for prosecutions that stripped Mohammed bin Nayef of long-standing powers overseeing criminal investigations.

Instead, King Salman ordered that a newly named Office of Public Prosecution and prosecutor report directly to the monarch.

Mohammed bin Salman, embarked on major overseas visits, including a trip to the White House to meet President Donald Trump in March.

That visit to Washington helped lay the foundation for Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia in May, which marked the president’s first overseas visit.

The trip was promoted heavily by the kingdom as proof of its weight in the region and wider Muslim world.

Yemen and Iran

Prince Mohammed bin Salman overhauled the kingdom’s economy away from its reliance on oil. He also oversees the Saudi-led war in Yemen, as defence minister.

The war, launched more than two years ago, has failed to dislodge Iranian-allied rebels known as Houthis from the capital, Sanaa, and has had devastating effects on the impoverished country.

Rights groups say Saudi forces have killed scores of civilians and have called on the United States, as well as the UK and France, to halt the sale of weapons to Saudi Arabia that could be used in the Yemen war.

The new crown prince also ruled out any chance of dialogue with Iran.

In remarks aired on Saudi TV in May, Mohammed bin Salman framed the tensions with Iran in sectarian terms and said it is Iran’s goal “to control the Islamic world” and to spread its Shia doctrine.

He also vowed to take “the battle” to Iran.

Iran and Saudi Arabia’s rivalry has played out in proxy wars across the region.

They back opposite sides in the wars in Syria and Yemen and they support political rivals in Lebanon, Bahrain and Iraq.

Siddaramaiah waives Rs 8,167-cr farm loan; relief for 22 lakh farmers

June 21, 2017 by Nasheman

Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday announced that the state will waive off farm loans up to Rs 50,000 which were taken till June 20, costing the state exchequer Rs 8,165 crore.

Siddaramaiah made the surprise announcement in the Assembly, putting the Opposition on back foot, at least temporarily. The BJP, principal opposition party in the state, welcomed the move.

With this, Karnataka has become fourth state to announcement partial farm loan waiver after Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Punjab.

This waiver would benefit about 22 lakh farmers across Karnataka. Karnataka was under severe drought for the last three years and the burden of repayment of loans was becoming unbearable to the farmers.

The BJP claimed that it was because of their constant campaign that the state government was pressurised to go for farm loan waiver. BS Yeddyurappa was planning to sit on a fast for three days in July, seeking a farm loan waiver.

Kodihalli Chandrashekar, president of Raitha Sangha said, “We welcome the move, but the CM should have waived another Rs 3000 crore which are under nationalized banks.”

While speaking on the floor of the house, Siddaramaiah challenged the BJP to convince the Central government to waive off the remaining loans in the nationalized banks.

On Monday, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh announced a total waiver of up to Rs 2 lakh for small and marginal farmers (up to 5 acres) and a flat Rs 2 lakh relief for all other marginal farmers, irrespective of their loan amount.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had also announced a farm loan waiver on June 4. He said the waiver will come into force by October 31, 2017, and will be restricted to small and marginal farmers with land holdings of five acres. Around 40 lakh farmers are estimated to benefit from the step.

Earlier, the Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh had also approved waiver of farm loans up to Rs 1 lakh, fulfilling a major election promise made by the BJP. According to state government, the decision will benefit 2.25 crore farmers and is likely to cost the state exchequer Rs 36,000 crore.

However, the Centre has ruled out any waiver of farm loan and said it will adhere to fiscal targets. On Tuesday, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the Centre is not considering any such plan.

The government had in 2008 waived farm loan to the tune of Rs 74,000 crore.

The Centre, he said, will adhere to all fiscal targets including fiscal deficit. He said he would not comment on the loan waivers by states and had already made his position clear last week.

On June 12, Jaitley had said the Centre will not fund any of the loan waivers by states and they will have to find their own funds for doing so.

SDPI Leader Ashraf hacked to death in coastal Karnataka’s Bantwal taluk

June 21, 2017 by Nasheman

Bantwal: Tensions erupted in Kalladka and neighboring areas after Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) local leader, Mohammed Ashraf (33) was stabbed to death by unknown assailants on June 21 in broad day light at Benjanapadavu in Bantwal taluk. Ashraf was an auto rickshaw driver by profession.

The police forces from Udupi, Chikkamagaluru and other districts have asked to reach the spot by the police department immediately to prevent unpleasant happenings in the taluk. The police have asked all shop owners, commercial establishments and others to shut their routine business immediately as a precautionary measure.

Qatar FM: We won’t negotiate until blockade is lifted

June 20, 2017 by Nasheman

Qatari FM says Gulf states have to lift blockade before Doha takes part in any talks on ending Gulf diplomatic crisis.

Qatar said it would rely on other states like Iran and Turkey if the embargo continues [Reuters]

Qatar said it would rely on other states like Iran and Turkey if the embargo continues [Reuters]

by Al Jazeera

Qatar will not negotiate with Arab states that have cut economic and travel ties with it unless they reverse their measures and lift a blockade against it, its foreign minister has said.

“Qatar is under blockade, there is no negotiation. They have to lift the blockade to start negotiations,” Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani told reporters on Monday, ruling out discussions over Qatar’s internal affairs, including the fate of the Doha-based Al Jazeera Media Network.

“Until now we didn’t see any progress about lifting the blockade, which is the precondition for anything to move forward,” he added.

Speaking from the capital, Doha, the minister said Qatar had still not received any demands from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain, who severed relations with two weeks ago, triggering the worst Gulf Arab crisis in years.

Anything that relates to the affairs of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council is subject to negotiation, he said, referring to the body comprising Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman.

“Anything not related to them is not subject to negotiation. No one has the right to interfere in my affairs. Al Jazeera is Qatar’s affairs, Qatari foreign policy on regional issues is Qatar’s affairs. And we are not going to negotiate on our own affairs,” he said.

The minister said Kuwait’s ruler was the sole mediator in the crisis and that he was waiting for specific demands from Gulf states in order to take resolution efforts forward.

“We cannot just have (vague) demands such as ‘the Qataris know what we want from them, they have to stop this or that, they have to be monitored by a foreign monitoring mechanism.'”

The crisis hit civilian travel and some food imports, ratcheted up tensions in the Gulf and sowed confusion among businesses. However, it has not affected energy exports from Qatar, the world’s biggest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The minister said Qatar would rely on other states if the boycott continued, including Saudi Arabia’s regional rival, Iran.

“We have a backup plan which depends mainly on Turkey, Kuwait and Oman,” he said.

“Iran has facilitated for us the sky passages for our aviation and we are cooperating with all countries that can ensure supplies for Qatar.”

‘Personal details of nearly 200 million US citizens leaked’

June 20, 2017 by Nasheman

Internet calls

Washington DC (USA): Sensitive information of nearly 200 million people in the US was accidentally leaked by a marketing firm contracted by the Republican National Committee, the country’s largest breach of electoral data to date, according to a media report.

The data leak by Deep Root Analytics contains personal information of roughly 61 per cent of the US population, technology news website Gizmodo reported.

The 1.1 terabytes of data seems to have been collected from a wide range of sources – from posts on controversial banned threads on a social network, to committees that raised funds for the Republican Party, the report said.

Apart from personal details, the data also contained citizens’ suspected religious affiliations, ethnicities and political biases, such as where they stood on controversial topics like gun control, the right to abortion and stem cell research, the report said.

The information was stored in spreadsheets uploaded to a server owned by Deep Root Analytics. It had last been updated in January when President Donald Trump, a Republican, was inaugurated and had been online for an unknown period of time.

“We take full responsibility for this situation. Based on the information we have gathered thus far, we do not believe that our systems have been hacked,” Deep Root Analytics’ founder Alex Lundry by quoted by the report.

“Since this event has come to our attention, we have updated the access settings and put protocols in place to prevent further access,” Lundry said.

Although it is known that political parties routinely gather data on voters, this is said to be the largest breach of electoral data in the US to date and privacy experts are concerned about the sheer scale of the data gathered.

There are fears that leaked data can easily be used for nefarious purposes, from identity fraud to harassment of people under protection orders, or to intimidate people who hold an opposing political view.

FIR lodged over fake letter stating action against properties not linked with Aadhar

June 20, 2017 by Nasheman

Aadhaar

New Delhi: The police on Monday registered a case of forgery on a complaint by a senior government official alleging that a fake letter issued by the cabinet secretariat about digitisation of land records, was being circulated with his forged signature.

The case was registered against unidentified persons on the complaint of Sheo Nath Singh, an undersecretary in the government whose signature is there on the letter, the police said.

The letter, which emerged on WhatsApp and has Cabinet Secretariat written on the top, reportedly mandated all the chief secretaries, additional chief secretaries of states and union territories to “complete the digitisation of land records, sale records from 1950 by August 14.”

It also said the government was “considering linking Aadhar numbers with the ownership of said properties” and that those properties that were not linked shall be considered for action under the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amended Act, 2016.

In his complaint, Singh said it was only after he started getting calls from people asking about the cabinet notification dated June 15 that he came to know about the matter.

The police said they have lodged an FIR at South Avenue police station under various sections of IPC pertaining to forgery of government document.

Director General of Press Information Bureau (PIB), Frank Noronha also tweeted about the fake letter.

“The letter attributed to Cabinet Secretariat on #Aadhaar linking to Land records, is completely fake & mischievous,” he said.
