Guwahati: Attacking the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, prominent social activist Anna Hazare on Friday said the country has topped the list of corrupt countries in Asia in the last three years of the NDA rule and claimed that Rs 80,000 crore has come to the coffers of the BJP in the last five months as donation.
Hazare, citing a Forbes Magazine article that quoted a Transparency International survey, said India tops the list of corrupt countries in Asia. “I am not claiming this but it being reported by Forbes Magazine after conducting a survey among the Asian countries,” he said.
“I have been silent for the last three years. When a new government comes we must give them some time. So I remained silent, but now the time has come to speak against them. I am going to start another movement for a strong Jan Lokpal as well as for the farmers of the country from March 23 next year,” said Hazare.
Slamming the Centre, he said that Rs 80,000 crore had come to the coffers of the ruling party in the last five months as donation.
“The common people are still reeling under problems. The farmers of the country are suffering. Banks give loans to the farmers but slap interest as per their whims and fancies. The Reserve Bank of India must fix a rate of interest for all the farmers and banks should not be allowed to fix the interest for the benefit of the farmers.”
“The farmers commit suicide as they fail to get good price for their crops to repay the loan. There is no MSP for their paddy,” he said while expressing his concerns.
He said he had written 32 letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the past three years but received no response to any of them from the PMO.
“I am going to involve everyone in the movement for a strong Jan Lokpal and farmers’ issues. I am going everywhere to speak to the people. We are ready to go to jail. But if they put us in jails we must ensure that every jail in the country should be filled by people,” said Hazare.
The veteran leader said while the then UPA government under the leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made a weak Jan Lokpal, the present BJP-led NDA government has further weakened the Jan Lokpal.
“Earlier there was a provision which made it mandatory for the officers to declare their assets but the present government abolished it. While the companies were allowed to donate 7.5 per cent of their profit to political parties, now any amount can be donated to the political parties,” said Hazare while appealing to people to support the movement to be started from March 23.

Satna: Alleging religious conversion, a mob linked to a right-wing Hindu group attacked Catholic carol singers in Madhya Pradesh’s Satna district and also set a priest’s car ablaze.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening. Instead of taking action against the attackers, the police detained the Christian singers, a priest said.
Father Rene Verghese told IANS on Friday: “A group of students training to become priests was moving around Satna town, visiting Christian institutions and singing carols.
“Some 15 km from here in Dara Kalan village church they were getting ready for the Christmas celebrations, when a group of people attacked them, accusing them of carrying out religious conversion.”
Verghese said the Hindu group raised slogans and called the Civil Lines police station.
All 32 carollers, accompanied by two priests, who were singing carols were picked up and taken to the police station. Eight priests who later went to the police station to enquire into the matter were also taken into custody, he said.
The agitating mob attacked the Christian students inside the police station, and set fire to the priest’s car parked outside.
Verghese denied any attempt at religious conversion. He said singing carols is a common practice around the time of Christmas. “We were just doing that and preparing for the Christmas celebrations.”
However, City Superintendent of Police D.D. Pande told IANS: “One Dharmendra Dohad has registered a complaint with us that he was paid Rs 5,000 and converted to a Christian.
“He was given a holy dip in a pond and his name was changed to Dharmendra Thomas, the complainant said. They also asked him to pray to Lord Christ,” he said.
A case has been registered against one identified person and five unknown persons in the conversion case, Pande said.
They are also investigating the vandalism carried out by the mob.

Bengaluru: Leading business tycoon, Human rights activist, philanthropist and Islamic Scholar and Founder and CEO Heera Group Dr. Nowhera Shaik has launched All India Mahila Empowerment Party (MEP), a national political party which aims at empowering Indian women irrespective of caste, creed, religious tag and domicile region. The main agenda of AIMEP is to see India as a developed economy where the common man/ woman/ citizen is able to benefit by the taxes they pay to the governments and we will strive and ensure that the common man is benefited by the schemes and programs implemented by the government.
AIMEP is going to contest in the forthcoming assembly elections in Karnataka where the party has a strong base and is confident of winning seats and playing a decisive role in the formation of next government.
Speaking about the party’s entry in Karnataka, Dr. Nowehra said “Karnataka has equal gender ratio but all the major positions are held by the men here, it has never seen a women Chief Minister in their constitutional history. Women always play a major role in the socio-economic development in Karnataka either business, home, services or sports. They have an important role in each and every aspects of life so why not in the Politics?
She continued and stated that We at Mahila empowerment party believe that woman is the only gender who can manage the work-life balance better and has a better understanding about the security, safety and basic requirement of a common human being. Through our Political outfit we wish to reach woman in every corner of India. Whether the governments admit it or not there is discrimination in every part of the country. Wherever there is a problem in this regard our party strives to provide people with proper access to their rights and see to it that the schemes available for the benefit of the people are implemented in a proper way.
Women gender is as equal as men in this state but in Political scenario of the Karnataka, women representation is only 2% which is shameful. We want to break the myth and in our party we will give majority of tickets to the women so that they should come in the front and lead their constituency as well as the state, she also added She also cleared that This is not just a political party, it All India Mahila Empowerment Party. It is the party of every man. It is the party of every mother. It is the party of every father. It is the party of every son. It is the party of every daughter.. It is the party of every farmer, every trader, and every businessman. It is the party of every citizen of India. The primary motto of our party is to empower every woman from every corner of Karnataka and India. We have to gain the confidence of every citizen of the state that we are true to our oath and will be striving to reach our aim of empowering every woman of India irrespective of caste, creed, age or religion. Each citizen should build their trust in us that mahila empowerment party is their own party and is there for them. For that every member volunteer of the party will strive to reach out the people with our motto.
We are going to contest this upcoming assembly election very aggressively and have a ready plan to reach every house of this state. Our target is to empower every woman of the state and aware and educate them with their rights and values. We want that every woman should be powerful and be the decision maker for the betterment of Karnataka.

New Delhi: The deadline to link the Aadhaar number with bank accounts has been extended by three months till March 31, the government announced on Wednesday, as the Supreme Court is set to commence hearing from Thursday on its mandatory linking to various schemes.
The deadline was earlier December 31 for linking the 12-digit unique identification number with both Permanent Account Number (PAN) and bank accounts. However, the government extended the deadline last week for linking it with PAN till March 31.
A notification to link it with bank accounts was later issued on Tuesday by the Department of Revenue under the Finance Ministry. The notification, however, did not mention the new deadline, leaving it open-ended.
The government later issued a press release which contained the deadline of March 31.
According to the December 12 notification, the words “submit the Aadhaar number and PAN by December 31, 2017” have been substituted by “submit the Aadhaar number, PAN or Form No 60 by such date as may be notified by the Central government”.
The release said under the provisions of Prevention of Money-laundering (Maintenance of Records) Second Amendment Rules, 2017, it was provided that if a client already having a bank account or any other account-based relationship with reporting entities prior to date of this notification fails to submit the Aadhaar number and PAN by December 31, “the said account shall cease to be operational till the time the Aadhaar number and PAN is submitted by the client”.
In case of a person opening a new account, the deadline for submitting Aadhaar number and PAN was “six months from the date of the commencement of the account based relationship”.
“After considering various representations received in this regard and inputs received from banks, it has been decided to notify March 31, 2018 or six months from the date of commencement of account based relationship by the client, whichever is later, as the date of submission of the Aadhaar number, and Permanent Account Number or Form 60 by the clients to the reporting entity,” the statement said.

Nay Pyi Taw: Global humanitarian NGO Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) announced on Thursday that at least 6,700 Rohingya were killed after violence broke out in Myanmar’s Rakhine state late August.
Based on surveys of refugees in Bangladesh, the number is much higher than Myanmar’s official figure of 400, reports the BBC.
“In the most conservative estimations” at least 6,700 of those deaths have been caused by violence, including at least 730 children under the age of five, MSF said in a reports.
MSF also known as Doctors Without Borders, said it was “the clearest indication yet of the widespread violence” by Myanmar authorities.
“What we uncovered was staggering, both in terms of the numbers of people who reported a family member died as a result of violence, and the horrific ways in which they said they were killed or severely injured,” MSF Medical Director Sidney Wong said.
Among the dead children below the age of five, MSF said more than 59 per cent were reportedly shot, 15 per cent burnt to death, 7 per cent beaten to death and 2 per cent killed by landmine blasts.
More than 647,000 Rohingya have fled into Bangladesh after military crackdown began on August 25 following Rohingya Arsa militants attack on more than 30 police posts, the BBC reported.
After an internal investigation, the Myanmar Army in November exonerated itself of any blame regarding the crisis.
It denied killing any civilians, burning their villages, raping women and girls, and stealing possessions.
The Muslim-majority community are denied citizenship by Myanmar, where they are seen as immigrants from Bangladesh. The government does not use the term Rohingya but calls them Bengali Muslims.
“The numbers of deaths are likely to be an underestimation as we have not surveyed all refugee settlements in Bangladesh and because the surveys don’t account for the families who never made it out of Myanmar,” Wong added.

Palanpur: Imagine a 35-bed government hospital being given on lease for just a rupee per year? And that too for 33 years? And what will you call it when the parties to this business are the government and a trust of the health minister? Well, in Gujarat, this will also be called development.
This towering hospital in downtown In Banaskantha, Gujarat is the only one the people can count on. But few noticed it when the BJP government, in the thick and bustle of electoral campaigns, bartered away the only civil hospital of the Palanpur area at a paltry price.
To recall another lease history, following the earthquake in Bhuj, a 400-bed government hospital was built with aid including aid from international agencies, but later that was leased to Adani for running at an annual price of One Rupee. This is what emboldened the health minister Shankar Chaudhari to take over the government district hospital on lease for his private medical college. But on his part, Chaudhary’s claim is that when their medical college becomes a reality, Banaskantha will become the hub of patients from northern Gujarat and Rajasthan. Earlier, he had declared at a press conference that he would start a medical college with a 700-bed hospital in Moria, just seven kilometers from Palnpur. Even as his dream hospial was yet to become a reality, he wanted to sell the medical seats for which he took on lease the exisitng government hospital clandestinely.
However, the minister’s position is that they would complete the hospital construction in five years until which the Palanpur civil hospital will be taken on lease. But then the lease is not for five years, but a full 33 years. He also claims that even after the trust takes over the government hospital, its services will continue as before. But this claim hides sevel provisions in the lease deal. According to the MOU signed between the trust and the government, even after the take over for the private hospital the salary of the staff will continue to be paid by the Gujarat government, and the doctors and employees of the hospital can continue for a year. After that the trust will decide whether their services would be required or not. In other words, the trust needs to meet the salary costs of the hospital only after five years. It is when Banaskantha is still lagging far behind in health index that in Gujarat, where education has been completely commercialized, a government hospital is being leased to its health minister for sale of medical seats.
