July 13, 2017 by Nasheman

Dinesh Gundu Rao Tabassum

Bengaluru: Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao and his wife Tabassum on Wednesday took condemned the remarks made by MP Shobha Karandlaje for commenting on their personal life.

Both Dinesh and Tabassum made statements against the remarks made on them and said that the minister should not link their personal life to politics. Tabassum reported took it on her Facebook Page while her husband Dinesh addressed the media and spoke out on the issue.

MP Shobha had earlier made statements over Dinesh and his wife Tabassum. It was after CM Siddaramaiah recently asked BJP leaders to make their children Dalits if they really care about them.

Dinesh advised Shobha to get married when he condemned her remarks. “I got married in 1994. Everybody knows whom I have married. I think Shobha still has a chance to marry somebody,” he said.

Dinesh further said “BJP is trying to divide society on the basis of religion. The BJP leaders have realised that they cannot win the next Assembly elections.” he added.

Actor Dileep’s arrest: Conspiracy to assault actress hatched in 2013

July 13, 2017 by Nasheman

Dileep

Kochi: Popular Malayalam actor Dileep, arrested in connection with the abduction and assault of a South Indian actress, had developed a grudge against her for letting his former wife know about his private life and hatched a conspiracy to take revenge way back in 2013, police said in its remand report.

Police probing the case claimed that Dileep, currently being interrogated after they secured his two-day custody from a court here, took revenge against the actress for passing on information to Manju Warrier about his affair with current wife Kavya Madhavan.

In its remand report filed before the Angamaly Magistrate Court, police claimed that Dileep had asked Pulsar Suni, prime accused in the case, to record a video of his criminal act in such a way to establish that it was not fake or morphed one.

Dismissing Dileeps claim that he had never met Suni, police said they had evidence and eyewitness statement to prove that the actor had met him on November 13 last year at Thrissur Tennis Club during shooting of a Malayalam movie.

They claimed that the conspiracy to abduct and assault the actress was hatched at a hotel room in Ernakulam in 2013.

Police, however, have not mentioned the exact date of Dileeps meeting with Suni at Room No 410 of Abad Plaza Hotel but merely said it took place some day between March 26 and April 7 in 2013.

During the meeting, Dileep had asked Suni to shoot the video of his criminal act, executed on February 17, in such a way that it would not be dismissed as a morphed, police said.

Evidence to establish this crime has been collected based on the confession statement given by Suni, they said.

The accused again hatched a conspiracy at shooting locations including Ernakulam Swift Junction on November 8, 2016, Thrissur Kinattinkal Tennis Club on November 13 and Santhigiri College Thodupuzha on November 14, police said.

Police cited eyewitness statements, mobile tower locations and call data of both the accused.

They said investigation is being carried out to find out whether Suni and his accomplice Vigeesh had visited the shop of Dileeps wife Kavya Madhavan to hand over the video of their criminal act soon after executing the crime.

Meanwhile, police today took Dileep to Santhigiri College at Thodupuzha besides some areas in Kochi for collecting evidence.

A magistrate court had earlier granted two-day police custody of the actor. Considering the application seeking three-day custody of the actor, the court at Angamaly granted his police custody till Friday. It posted the bail application moved by Dileeps counsel to that day.

The 48-year-old actor, charged with criminal conspiracy in the sensational case, was brought to the court amid tight security.

The actor has been charged under several sections of the IPC, including 120(B) (conspiracy).

Dileeps counsel and noted lawyer K Ramkumar has claimed that he had been framed in the case.

The actor, arrested on Monday evening, was remanded in 14-day judicial custody yesterday.

Six persons, including Pulsar Suni, have been arrested in connection with the abduction and assault case.

The popular actress, who has worked in Tamil and Telugu films, was abducted and allegedly molested inside her car for two hours by the accused, who had forced their way into the vehicle on February 17 and later escaped in a busy area here.

Siddaramaiah orders probe into special treatment to Sasikala

July 13, 2017 by Nasheman

Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today ordered a high-level probe into alleged irregularities at the central prison here, including preferential treatment being given to AIADMK (Amma) leader V K Sasikala.

He said strict action will be taken against those found guilty.

“We have taken serious cognizance of the allegation of irregularities in the Bengaluru Central Prison and ordered a high-level inquiry,” Siddaramaiah, who is currenty touring Raichur district, posted on Twitter.

“Request all to await the outcome of this inquiry. Strict action will be taken against any person found guilty of wrongdoing (sic),” he tweeted.

In a report submitted to DGP (Prisons) H S Sathyanarayana Rao yesterday, Deputy Inspector of General (Prisons) D Roopa had alleged that a special kitchen had been set up in the jail for Sasikala in violation of prison rules.

“There are rumours that the kitchen is continuing to function despite the issue being brought to your (Rao) notice. There is also a talk that Rs 2 crore has been paid as bribe for this.

“As unfortunately these allegations are also against you, it is requested that you look into the matter and take merciless disciplinary action against erroneous officials,” the report signed by Roopa said.

She also pointed out other “erroneous” practices in the prison including “preferential” treatment to fake stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi.

Sasikala, along with her two relatives V NSudhakaran and Elavarasi, is lodged in the Parappana Agrahara centralprison here ever since her conviction in February in the disproportionate assets case. They are serving a four-year jail term.

DGP Rao today rubbished Roopa’s charge, terming it as “absolutely false, baseless and wild” and said hewould take legal recourse against his junior.

Responding to this, Roopa said “let there be a fair fact-finding inquiry to find out the truth”.

Another man beaten up in Nagpur by cow dung terrorists, four detained

July 13, 2017 by Nasheman

Nagpur beef

New Delhi: A man was beaten up in Nagpur in Maharashtra by a four-member gang for allegedly carrying beef. The incident has been reported in Bharsingi area of the city. A case has been registered by Nagpur police and four people have been detained for interrogation, news agency reported.

A video showing the man, whose identity is not known yet, being dragged and kicked around by the men. The meat sample has reportedly been sent for forensic analysis.

The incident follows a long list of such cases of mobs taking law into their own hands often resulting in casualties. Last month, protests broke out in various parts of the country against targeted lynchings of minorities and Dalits after Junaid Khan, a 15-year-old, was stabbed to death on a Mathura-bound train by a mob in Ballabhgarh in Haryana.

Khan’s death ensued after an argument over train seats escalated. Khan and his friends were called ‘beef-eaters’ by the mob and they were mocked over their skull caps.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at an event at the Sabarmati ashram in Gujarat, soon condemned violence in the name of ‘gau raksha’. “Killing people in the name of Gau Bhakti is not acceptable. This is not something Mahatma Gandhi would approve,” he tweeted.

He spent his life living in the seminary for Mazahir Al-Ulum in Saharanpur, where many said he would sleep in the company of numerous books.

Scholars around the world have shared their condolences.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is dead, Syrian Observatory says

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says it has information from top ISIL commanders confirming Baghdadi’s death.

by Al Jazeera

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says it has “confirmed information” that  Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL), has been killed.

Rami Abdurrahman, director of the war monitoring group, told news agencies on Tuesday that Baghdadi died in Deir az Zor province in eastern Syria.

“Top-tier commanders from ISIL who are present in Deir az Zor province have confirmed the death of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, emir of the Islamic State group, to the Observatory,” Abdurrahman told the AFP.

“We learned of it today but we do not know when he died or how.”

The report could not be independently verified and Baghdadi has been reported dead several times.

There was no official confirmation or denial of the news on ISIL-affiliated websites and social media feeds.

Russia’s defence ministry said in June that it might have killedBaghdadi when one of its air strikes hit a gathering of ISIL commanders on the outskirts of the Syrian city of Raqqa, but Washington said it could not corroborate the death and Western and Iraqi officials have been sceptical.

Abdurrahman said Baghdadi “was present in eastern parts of Deir az Zor province” in recent months, but it was unclear if he died in the area or elsewhere.

Deir az Zor remains largely under ISIL control even as the group is losing territory elsewhere in the country and in neighbouring Iraq.

Iraqi and Kurdish officials did not confirm his death.

The US Department of Defence said it had no immediate information to corroborate Baghdadi’s death.

The 46-year-old Iraqi-born leader of ISIL has not been seen in public since making his only known public appearance as “caliph” in 2014 at the Grand Mosque of al-Nuri in Mosul.

ISIL destroyed the highly symbolic site before Iraqi forces could reach it as they pushed the group from Mosul, where Iraq’s government formally declared victory on Monday.

With a $25m US bounty on his head, Baghdadi has kept a low profile and was rumoured to move regularly throughout ISIL-held territory in the area straddling Iraq and Syria.

His death, if confirmed, would be a new blow to the group which is also battling a US-backed coalition of Kurdish and Arab fighters for control of Raqqa.

Pak hands over 78 prisoners to India

July 12, 2017 by Nasheman

prisoner

Lahore: The Pakistan Rangers Monday handed over 78 Indian prisoners, mostly fishermen, to the Border Security Force (BSF) at the Wagah Border after they were released from a jail in Karachi.

A Rangers’ official told PTI that 77 Indian fishermen and one other Indian prisoner were handed over to the BSF after verification of their immigration papers.

Indian prisoners were handed over after a parade that concluded at dawn, the official said.

The Indian fishermen, who were released from Karachi’s Landhi jail, yesterday were brought here by a train this afternoon.

“We received the fishermen at the Lahore railways station and brought them to Edhi Foundation and served them food. We have also presented them with a pair of shalwar kameez and Rs 5,000 as gift,” Edhi Foundation spokesman Younis Bhatti said.

He said the fishermen were later transported to the Wagah border by bus.

Most of the fishermen handed over to the BSF had completed their sentences at the Landhi jail. They had been held for crossing into Pakistani waters inadvertently.

About 298 Indian fishermen are still languishing in the Sindh province of Pakistan, media reports said.

Indian fishermen often languish in jail in Sindh even after serving their terms because of bureaucratic hurdles.

Panaji: In a shocking incident, a woman, currently in her 50’s, was today found to be ‘confined’ in a room in her parents’ house for the last twenty years for her ‘abnormal behaviour’ in Candolim village near here, the police said.

The woman, locked in a dark room which has been her world for the last two decades, was rescued after an NGO alerted the police.

“The woman was locked in a dark room of her parents’ house currently occupied by her two brothers and their family members. She was being served food and water through a window,” a senior police official told PTI tonight.

A team from the Women’s Police Station raided the house on the information given by the NGO ‘Bailancho Saad’.

The official said the NGO came to know about the woman through an email sent to them by a person who claimed to have seen the woman.

“When the police team entered the room, they found that the woman was naked and was reluctant to move out of the room which is located on the backside of her parent’s house,” the official said, adding she was confined in the dark room for almost 20 years.

Citing her family members, the official said the woman was briefly married to a man from Mumbai, but returned home soon after finding that he was already married.

“Her family members locked her in the room after she started behaving abnormally after her return from Mumbai,” the official said.

The woman was taken for medical treatment by the police.

“We are yet to arrest anyone in this case. The investigation is still at primary stage. The statement of family members of the woman is being recorded,” he said.

The activists of the Dal took out a march near a mosque here yesterday to protest the attack on pilgrims in Kashmir Valley.

The Muslim trader hailing from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh had come to the mosque to offer prayers yesterday when the Dal activists were taking out a march.

As the Bajrang Dal activists were raising ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ slogans, someone in the crowd asked the trader who was at the gate of the mosque, to raise the slogan.

A Bajrang Dal leader here said no one from the Dal had slapped the trader.

Amartya Sen can’t say ‘cow’, ‘Gujarat’ in documentary, rules censor board

July 12, 2017 by Nasheman

documentary The Argumentative Indian

Kolkata: The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has verbally communicated to a filmmaker to mute four words including ‘cow’ in his documentary on Amartya Sen, the director said.

The four words CBFC’s regional office here wanted to be muted are ‘Gujarat’, ‘cow’, ‘Hindutva view of India’ and ‘Hindu India’, Suman Ghosh, director of the documentary ‘The Argumentative Indian’, told PTI.

“After sitting for three hours at the Censor Board office in Kolkata, during which my documentary was screened and the members scrutinised every single shot, I was verbally told last night to mute four words ‘Gujarat’, ‘cow’, ‘Hindutva view of India’ and ‘Hindu India’ for getting U/A certificate,’ Gosh said. ‘I expressed my inability to them,” he said.

Taking out certain words from the discussion between Sen and the interviewer, economist Kaushik Basu, would remove the soul of the documentary, Ghosh said.

“I am waiting for their written communication and whether they will send the film to review committee in Mumbai. In any situation my response will be the same,” he said.

“These days films get online certification. So I hope the issue gets resolved quickly. But no question of taking out some words,” he added.

Contacted, a member of the CBFC here said, “Nothing to comment to the media on what the director said.”

In the documentary, Sen speaks of social choice theory, development economics, philosophy and the rise of right-wing nationalism across the world including India.

It has been made over a span of 15 years from 2002 and is structured as a conversation between Sen and his student economist Kaushik Basu.
