PKL-6: Ex-India skipper Anup goes cheaply at auction

May 31, 2018 by Nasheman

Former India captain Anup Kumar suffered a fall from grace as he commanded a mere Rs 30 lakh at the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 6 auction here on Wednesday.

Anup, who led India to a record third World Cup title in 2016, will represent the Jaipur Pink Panthers this season.

He had commanded a price of Rs 56.65 lakh last season, while being retained for the fifth consecutive time by the U Mumba franchise. However, he was not retained this season following a run of poor form.

Anup, who made his international debut at the 2010 Asian Games, won the title the same year and retained it in 2014.

Russia lose to Austria in World Cup tune-up

May 31, 2018 by Nasheman

Russia’s defensive weakness was on display as the 2018 FIFA World Cup hosts fell 1-0 to Austria, who failed to qualify for the tournament.

Playing their penultimate international friendly before the World Cup, the Russians started brightly in Wednesday night’s match at the Innsbruck’s Tivoli Stadium here, reports EFE news agency.

But the momentum shifted to the hosts in the 12th minute with a shot on goal by Robert Zulj in his first match as a starter for Austria.

With Marko Arnautovic taking the lead, the Austrians picked up the pace and started asking questions of the Russian defenders.

It was the West Ham United player who set up the only goal of the night, getting the ball to Alessandro Schöpf, who beat Akinfeev to make it 1-0 for Austria in the 28th minute.

The visitors, meanwhile, proved unable to pose any threat to the Austrian goal and were lucky not to go down a man when Granat brought down Arnautovic with a tackle that would have merited a red card under different circumstances.

Arnautovic had a chance to double the lead for Austria early in the second half, but his shot went over the cross-bar.

Both teams made changes in the second period, robbing the contest of rhythm and excitement.

Russia will visit Turkey next week for their final friendly before hosting Saudi Arabia in Moscow on June 14 in the World Cup kick-off.

Mohammed Nalapad’s bail application was Rejected : Assult in Pub Case

May 31, 2018 by Nasheman

A court in the city has dismissed the bail application moved by Mohammed Nalapad, son of Shanthinagar MLA N A Haris on Wednesday May 30.

Nalapad has been in jail since the last over 14 weeks for the alleged murderous assault he launched on Vidwath. Currently he is under judicial custody.

The order issued by the 63rd Sessions Court in the city has dashed the hopes of Nalapad of getting bail even after chargesheet was filed in the case. As a result, he is forced to remain inside the prison at least for the time being.

After his bail application was quashed by the state High Court in the past, Nalapad had moved bail application for the second time in the sessions court after chargesheet was filed. Judge of the court, Parameshwar Prasanna, who conducted hearing into the petition, ordered quashing of the application.

The court noted that the accused is facing charge of attempt to murder under section 307 of Indian Penal Code under which there is provision to award life term imprisonment. “A perusal of statements by witnesses gives clear picture about the seriousness of the incident. The accused is an influential person and hearing in the case has not concluded. There is possibility of destruction of evidence and influencing witnesses if he is released. Therefore, at this stage, bail cannot be granted,” the judge observed before dismissing the application.

The judge also noted that the investigation conducted so far and medical reports contain strong evidences about the veracity of the incident. “When considering bail application in the past, the High Court had gone through the video footage of the incident and opined that the matter is serious, before quashing the application. Moreover there is no rule that bail should be granted immediately after chargesheet is filed. Therefore, the bail application stands dismissed,” the judge observed.

Advocate for Nalapad, Usman, said that his client would appeal in the High Court against the court order.

Ramdev’s messaging app ‘Kimbho’ disappears from Google Play Store

May 31, 2018 by Nasheman

Yoga guru Ramdev’s “swadeshi” messaging app called “Kimbho” that aims to take on WhatsApp and WeChat has suddenly disappeared from Google Play Store.

However, the app launched on Wednesday is still seen on iOS App Store.

Several people who tried to download the app from Play Store were amused at its sudden disappearance.

Kimbho is a Sanskrit word and according to Patanjai’s spokesperson SK Tijarawala, it means “How are you? or What’s new?”

“Now Bharat will speak. After launching sim cards, Ramdev has launched a new messaging application called ‘Kimbho’,” Tijarawala tweeted late on Wednesday.

“Now WhatsApp will be given a competition. Our own #SwadeshiMessagingplatform. Download it directly from Google Play store,” he added.

According to Faisal Kawoosa, Head New Initiatives, CyberMedia Research (CMR), it will not be easy for “Kimbho” to create a space dominated by WhatsApp for just on being “Swadeshi.”

“So far, just around 5k installations and reviews are full of issues and concerns. Nevertheless, seems Patanjali is getting serious about communications,” Kawoosa tweeted.

“Kimbhi is a real time messaging app.

“Kimbho empowers private group chat with free phone and video calling. It has dozens of amazing features to share text audio, photos, videos, stickers, quickies, location, GIF, Doodle and more,” read the description on iOS App Store.
