PM Shares Stage With Corruption-Charged Reddy Brother – In Bellery

May 4, 2018 by Nasheman

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday shared stage with one of the Reddy brothers in Ballari – an act that was seen as putting his weight behind the BJP’s most controversial move in the assembly election in Karnataka. The Reddy brothers – lawmakers and ministers during the earlier BJP government in the state — have been accused of conducting largescale illegal mining across the iron-ore-rich district of Ballary.

Ballari — from where they have been given ticket again — became the second stop in PM Modi’s second visit to the state this week.

The BJP has been facing intense criticism from the Congress since it named Gali Somashekhara Reddy in its second list on April 17. Ticket for a second brother, Gali Karunakara Reddy followed. Gali Janardhana Reddy, a former minister who has the bulk of accusations against him, was soon seen campaigning across the district for the BJP.

The BJP has defended the move as a “compromise”, claiming they are the party’s best chances for a victory in the area. The Central leadership, which presumably approved the move, has been silent despite numerous Congress demands for an explanation.

On thursday, PM Modi shared stage with Gali Somashekhara Reddy at the District Stadium before hundreds of supporters. He did not speak about the candidate or Congress allegations. Instead, he chose to focus on the alleged Congress failures.

“Sonia Gandhi had promised a 3000-crore package to Ballari, but forgot her promise. Despite all the natural resources, Ballari hasn’t be able to develop, because of the government in Bengaluru. This government hasn’t done anything,” the Prime Minister said.

The Reddy brothers represent a chunk of corruption allegations that mushroomed during the BJP government led by BS Yeddyurappa. Gali Somasekhara Reddy is accused of bribing a judge in the cash-for bail case that involved Janardhan Reddy.

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who are spearheading the attack on the BJP over corruption, were scathing in their criticism.

Early this morning, Mr Siddaramaiah had welcomed PM Modi with a tweet: “As you arrive in Bellary, we look forward to hear your commentary on corruption. Don’t forget to mention Reddy’s record scam score of 35,000 cr & still not out. With star players like Yeddy-Reddy, your score in Karnataka will be well short of 60.

Gill is special talent: Piyush : IPL 2018

May 4, 2018 by Nasheman

Seasoned Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) wrist spinner Piyush Chawla feels Shubman Gill is a special talent following the young batsman’s unbeaten 57 that helped the team beat the more-fancied Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets in an Indian Premier League (IPL) game here on Thursday.

“Before the start of the matches, during our camp…I had said that he is a special talent. Today he proved it,” Chawla told reporters at the post match press conference.

In the absence of injured Nitish Rana, Gill was promoted to No.4 in the batting order, a slot where he is more comfortable in, rather than at No.7.

Chasing 178 for victory, KKR were in control of their chase right from the outset.

When Rinku Singh was bowled in the 12th over, KKR needed 81 runs off 50 balls. Gill and skipper Dinesh Karthik (18-ball 45 not out) then joined hands for an unbroken 83-run stand for the fifth wicket to guide the team to victory with 14 balls to spare.

Gill’s 32-ball half-century was studded with six fours, three of which came inside the first six deliveries he faced.

The star of India’s U-19 World Cup winning team became fourth-youngest to score an IPL half-century, after his India Under-19 team-mate Prithvi Shaw, Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant.

“Nitish was injured and he was doing well for us. We needed somebody who can graft the innings and he did exactly the same, what the team demanded from him,” Chawla said when asked about Gill being pushed up the order.

“Batting at No.7, I guess if you see the team combination, it’s a team game so team comes first,” he added.

Earlier, KKR led by West Indian mystery spinner Sunil Narine (2/20) and Kuldeep Yadav and Chawla himself, once again put pressure on CSK and did not let them score big.

A team that has gone past the 200-plus run-mark four times, were restricted to 177/5 with M.S. Dhoni’s 25-ball 43 the highlight in the end. But captain Dhoni too, struggled against spin.

“We have three spinners who have played at the highest level and have done well. It was a team thought that we might go with the spinners in the slog overs and we ended up quite well bowling with spinners in the 18th, 19th and 20 over,” said Chawla who returned figures of 2/35.

Kuldeep (1/34), Narine and Chawla bowled the 18th, 19th and 20 over respectively in the first innings.

Chawla further said that the role of wrist spinner is very important in T20 cricket, adding chinaman Kuldeep has replaced Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan efficiently.

“Previously we had Sunil, myself and Shakib (Al Hasan). Kuldeep has come in and is filling up the boots of Shakib. He is doing really well and as I said, wrist spinner plays a big role in this format and we are lucky to have two wrist spinners and the way Sunil bowls, the whole world knows that.”

KKR next take on Mumbai Indians in Mumbai and then welcome the same team at home. Chawla said although Rohit Sharma and Co. are at the foot of the points table, they can be dangerous.

“T20 is a kind of format where no team is easy. If you see Mumbai Indians they have proved it in the IPL. They are at the bottom of the table right now but these kind of teams are even more dangerous. So we have to play good cricket to come on top.”

KKR are now placed third with 10 points from nine games.

Sitting in cars for long hours may lead to blood clots

May 4, 2018 by Nasheman

A new study suggests that being confined in a car or airplane for long hours may increase the risk of developing a condition called venous thromboembolisms (VTE), a blood clot that forms most often in the deep veins of the leg, groin or arm.

In order to assess the impact of remaining seated in cars for extended periods of time, the investigators gathered data from the aftermath of the Kumamoto earthquakes that struck Japan in April 2016.

They found an “epidemic” of blood clots developing in the legs, and in numerous cases going to the lungs, in many of the people forced to evacuate, according to the study published in the Canadian Journal of Cardiology.

Analysis of questionnaires from 21 local medical institutions established that 51 patients were hospitalised following the earthquakes due to VTE.

Of these, 42 patients (82.4 per cent) had spent the night in a vehicle.

“Preventive awareness activities by professional medical teams, supported by education in the media about the risk of VTEs after spending the night in a vehicle, and raising awareness of evacuation centers, could lead to a reduced number of victims of VTE,” noted lead investigator Seiji Hokimoto from Kumamoto University in Japan.

“This is a dramatic example of the risks inherent in spending prolonged periods immobilized in a cramped position,” commented Stanley Nattel, Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Cardiology.

“It is an important reminder of a public health point and reinforces the need to get up and walk around regularly when on an airplane or when forced to stay in a car for a long time,” Nattel said.

Congress moves EC against BJP’s ‘misleading advertisements’

May 4, 2018 by Nasheman

The Congress on Thursday complained to the Election Commission against the BJP’s Karnataka unit for “getting published false and misleading advertisements” in newspapers to malign the public image of Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

The Congress said it was a violation of the Model Code of Conduct as the print advertisements were published with an intent to malign their leaders’ images by “levelling false and unverified allegations and distortions against them”.

The party urged the EC to enquire into and take strict and prompt action against the state BJP leadership. It also said this is “clearly a sign of BJP’s frustration”.

Congress leaders, including Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Rajeev Shukla and Pramod Tiwari, submitted a memorandum to Chief Election Commissioner Om Prakash Rawat.

“We bring to your kind notice the blatant violation of the Model Code of Conduct by the Karnataka BJP in the ensuing Assembly elections.

“Your kind attention is drawn to specific incidents of publishing false and misleading advertisements in various newspapers on Thursday across the state with the object of securing votes by casting undue influence on unsuspecting voters,” said the memorandum.

“The Karnataka BJP has made false, baseless, unfounded and unsubstantiated allegations using cutouts, shadow images and likeness of Rahul Gandhi and Siddaramaiah being fully aware that the Model Code was in force,” it added.

Singhvi later told reporters: “We told the EC about the highly objectionable advertisements being released in Karnataka. They are highly objectionable not only because they are a direct violation of the MCC but also of the criminal law.

“The Indian Penal Code and Representation of the People Act have been quoted… there are provisions to prevent inflammatory, provocative, divisive and personal enmity between groups.”

Singhvi claimed that attempts to gain electorally were happening in a brazen manner.

“We have demanded and immediate stop on these. Also, we are advising our Karnataka leaders to take action, including filing of an FIR and following it up.”

Builder jumps to death after police raid

May 4, 2018 by Nasheman

An elderly builder jumped to death from his house roof after a police team raided his residence to arrest him, an officer said on Thursday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Milind Mahadev Dumbere said the incident occurred on the night of April 30.

“A raid was conducted by a team of Delhi Police at Virendra Dhingra’s residence at Vasant Vihar to arrest him and he allegedly jumped from three storey building in fear,” he said.

“Dhingra, 69, was an accused in a financial cheating case filed in CR Park police station and a non-bailable warrant was also issued against him. The police team of the district concerned raided his house to arrest him and subsequently he jumped from top floor of the building,” Dumbere added.

Dhingra was taken to private hospital where he later succumbed to his multiple injuries.

Meanwhile, Dhingra’s family members alleged it was a murder case as the police team applied pressure on him. As a result, he climbed on top floor of the building and jumped off.

Police however dismissed the allegations but said a probe has been ordered.

“We have constituted a high level inquiry committee to investigate this case from all angles,” Dumbere added.

Rajasthan, UP may witness more thundershowers

May 4, 2018 by Nasheman

While nearly 100 people died in dust storms and lightning strikes in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan overnight, many more parts of country will witness thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds, the Met department warned on Thursday.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Rajasthan and UP may witness another episode of dust storm and thundershowers.

Weather analysts said there is a fair amount of moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal and from North India, which will lead to formation of storm clouds and widespread thundershowers across East India, Gangetic plains, southern India and Central India.

“Districts in coastal Andhra Pradesh are likely to receive heavy rain and then thunderstorms in days ahead,” an IMD official said.

Ten people were killed as heavy rains lashed Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, officials said. While five people were killed in various rain-related incidents in Telangana, an equal number of deaths were reported from Andhra Pradesh.

Delhi on the other hand may see strong surface winds during the day time towards Sunday, the IMD said.

Delhi, that saw 14.4mm rainfall over past 24 hours, recorded a mximum temperature of 35.2 degrees on Thursday, three notches below the season’s average. The minimum temperature was recorded at 19.8 degrees, five notches below the season’s average.

Rajasthan, which that saw at least 31 dead, with causalities reported from Alwar, Dholpur and Bharatpur districts, may see another spell of duststorm and rains over next few days.

The regional weather office in Jaipur had issued a warning for dust storm, light rain and thunderstorm for Alwar, Banswara, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Dausa and Bhilwara.

“With temperatures expected to rise again and continuous incursion of moisture, Rajasthan will see more thunderstorms and dust storms,” said an IMD official.

On Wednesday, a combination of weather systems emanating from hilly states and either side of the sea, East and West, resulted in the intense thundershowers and dust storms in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh that left several dead. According to IMD, Wednesday’s episode was the heat wave in in two states, as regions in Vidarbha and Rajasthan are currently witnessing a severe heat wave and temperatures have even touched 47 degree Celsius, in Phalodi, in Jodhpur district.

According to Met, a western disturbance approaching North India and that has brought in moisture from North India too. The weather system over Rajasthan formed due to winds from west.

Apart from Rajasthan and UP, the weather systems formed due to winds from North India brought rains to Haryana and Delhi-National Capital Region too. In fact, winds were stronger in Delhi and touched a speed of 69 km/hr.

Vote BJP to restore pride of Karnataka – calls Modi

May 4, 2018 by Nasheman

Prime Minister, Sri. Narendra Modi has called upon the Karnataka people to vote for Bharatiya
Janata Party, which can oust most corrupt Congress regime and restore the State pride.
Sri Modi on Wednesday addressed as many as three rallies in election bound Karnataka. In his first meeting at
Kalburgi, he called upon the people to reject divisive and vote-bank politics of Congress. In his second rally at Ballari, Prime
Minister talked about the duplicity of Congress over corruptions and criminalisation of politics.
Addressing a mammoth rally in Bengaluru this evening Sri Modi lambasted both Congress and Janata Dal (S) for their
hobnobbing with communal forces.
Whenever Congress is set to lose power, Prime Minister said, the political pandits and pollsters who are staunch
loyalists of Congress, will start predicting a split verdict. Even during 2014 Lok Sabha elections and other Assembly elections,
they predicted hung Houses but they proved to be utterly wrong. Now, these loyalists are again predicting hung Assembly,
which means the Congress is on its way out, and BJP will come to power with thumping majority he said amidst applause.
He said – no pollster is telling that the JDS is in the reckoning. It is crawling at distant third place. Everybody knows, it
cannot take on Congress nor provide an alternative. Only BJP can oust Congress. Hence, he is sure that the wise people of
Karnataka will not waste their votes by siding with JDS. Now, you have got a golden opportunity to end the misrule of Congress
he said and called upon the people to come to polling booths on May 12 and bring BJP to power by pressing Lotus button.
He said – the JDS like Congress, is also hobnobbing with Communal forces. In an indirect reference to All India Majlis-eIttehadul
Muslimeen’s open support to JDS, he said the regional party (JDS) in pursuit of power has made handshake with
most communal political outfit, which is detrimental to the interest of Karnataka.
Explaining the misrule of Congress he said the rule of grand old party had ruined the state and the capital
city of Bengaluru on all fronts. The most talented youths and IT professionals of Bengaluru transformed their city into
Silicon Valley of India. But the Congress through its misdeeds has turned it into a City of Sin.
The IT professionals made Bengaluru a Computer Capital but the Congress which always patronises the
anti-social elements, turned it into a Crime City. For ages, the city of Bengaluru is known as Garden City but the
Congress rule (in BBMP) made it a Garbage City.
The most generous people known for their hospitality evolved Bengaluru into a Cosmopolitan City but
Congress regime turned it into a City of Kiosk. Also, young entrepreneurs made Bengaluru a Start-up capital but
wrong policies of Congress took away the sheen. Instead, they made Bengaluru a Pothole City. These are five
“gifts” the Congress gave to Bengalureans.
Stating that the rampant corruption of Congress regime has taken Karnataka to backward, he said instead of
doing developmental works the different departments and ministers are competing among themselves to set records
in corruption. He also cited the example of a steel bridge (flyover) project between Chalukya Circle and Hebbal,
which was abandoned after BJP protested. Instead of “Steel” Bridge it was to become “Steal” Bridge for Congresss
leaders, he told the cheering crowd. When asked whether such government needs to continue – the crowd cried “No
No”.
Prime Minister ridiculed the Congress Manifesto, which is full of falls data and promises. He concluded his
speech with slogans in Kannada “Sarkara Badalisi – BJP Gellisi” (Change government and make BJP victorious.
Former Chief Minister, Sri S. M. Krishna arrived on the dais when Sri. Modi had begun his speech. However,
Sri Modi halted his speech for a few second, and wished Sri. S. M. Krishna with folded hand.
Union Minister, Sri. H. N. Ananth Kumar translated Sri. Modi’s Hindi speech to Kannada. Union Minister, Sri.
D. V. Sadanand Gowda; MP Sri. P. C. Mohan and candidates of Bengaluru segments participated.

BJP MLA from Bengaluru Assembly seat dies

May 4, 2018 by Nasheman

Bharatiya Janata Party legislator from the Jayanagar assembly segment, B.N. Vijaya Kumar, died here early on Friday, a party official said. He was 60.

The two-time lawmaker was in the fray from the same constituency for the May 12 Karnataka Assembly elections.

“Vijaya Kumar was admitted into a nearby hospital after he collapsed on Thursday evening following a cardiac arrest while campaigning in his constituency,” the official told IANS.

He died at the state-run hospital after efforts to revive him failed, a doctor said.

The party’s state unit chief B.S. Yeddyurappa mourned the death. “I am deeply pained at the untimely demise of my friend and party stalwart Vijaya Kumar…,” Yeddyurappa tweeted.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also expressed his condolences over Kumar’s demise. “..I express my condolences to his family and loved ones. Vijaya Kumar was a sincere and hard working political leader,” he tweeted.

The Election Commission was likely to countermand the poll in Jayanagar Assembly seat on account of Kumar’s death as a candidate in the fray.
