‘Will give Rs 3500000000000 to farmers, if I am made PM’

December 13, 2018 by Nasheman

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Wednesday said the proposed Federal Front will extend across the country ‘Rythu Bandhu’, an investment support scheme for farmers currently being implemented in Telangana.

A day after announcing that a consortium of regional parties would soon take shape at the national level, Rao told reporters that he would like to replicate across the country what he has achieved in Telangana.

On the eve of taking oath as the Chief Minister for a second consecutive term, KCR said he had done the calculations about the funds required for implementation of ‘Rythu Bandhu’ across the country.

“It requires Rs.3.5 lakh crore. We will spend it,” said KCR, who has taken the initiative to build a non-BJP, non-Congress alternative.

Under ‘Rythu Bandhu’ launched in April, the Telangana government is providing financial assistance of Rs 4,000 to every farmer per acre per crop. Every year, a farmer gets Rs 8,000 per acre.

About 57 lakh farmers in the state have benefited from the scheme. The TRS has now promised to increase this assistance to Rs 5,000 per acre per crop.

The TRS chief said the proposed Front would place before nation an alternate economic model and a new agriculture model. He believes the proposed model would give freedom to the country from recurring droughts, end farmer suicides and transform agriculture through full utilization of 70,000 TMC of water.

He reiterated that his idea of alternative politics was not bringing some parties and leaders together.

“We will directly approach the people of this country with a roadmap, which will be released shortly,” he said, adding that he was taking ideas from farmers groups, NGOs and activists.

KCR also said that he will share his idea with parties and leaders. “Some may come, some may not come.”

The TRS leader alleged that both the Congress and BJP had failed the country due to political opportunism and cheap politics.

He said both the parties wanted to keep unlimited powers with them. “As far as centralization of powers is concerned, both the parties are one and the same.”

Stressing the need for devolution of powers to the states, he said the Centre should immediately transfer five subjects.

“There is no need to keep agriculture, rural development, urban development, health and education with them. What Delhi has to do with a primary school or a primary health centre in a remote part of a state?” he asked.

Defending his support for demonetisation, KCR said it was a good programme but Prime Minister Narendra Modi stopped it midway. “The intention was good behind it but halfway it was stopped.”

New RBI chief, global cues push up equity market

December 13, 2018 by Nasheman

 (19:48)

Positive global markets along with value buying and hopes of an ease in the monitory policy with the appointment of Shaktikanta Das as the RBI chief pushed the key equity indices 1.8 per cent higher on Wednesday.

Analysts said investors were optimistic over the swift appointment of Das as
the 25th Governor of the Reserve Bank as it might lead to a more liberal monetary policy.

However, caution ahead of the release of industrial production and retail inflation data coupled with higher crude oil prices and outflow of foreign funds arrested the upward movement.

All sectoral indices rose, led by financial and auto counters, with the latter gaining 3 per cent the highest increase on BSE.

“A clear mandate in key states assuaged investor concerns and had a positive impact on volatility,” said Abhijeet Dey, Senior Fund Manager-Equities, BNP Paribas Mutual Fund.

According to Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services: “Market rallied and reclaimed the 10,700 mark as swift reaction from government with the appointment of new RBI governor supported the sentiment.

“Bank Nifty outperformed with an expectation of ease in liquidity and relaxation in PCA framework. Global indices rallied on US-China trade hopes and the ripple effect was seen in other EMs as well.”

Index-wise, the S&P BSE Sensex settled higher by 1.79 per cent, or 629.06 points, at 35,779.07 points, from its previous close of 35,150.01 points. It touched an intra-day high of 35,826.58 points and a low of 35,167.47 points.

The NSE Nifty50 advanced 188.45 points or 1.79 per cent to close the session at 10,737.60 points.

The BSE market breadth was positive as the number of advancing stocks was thrice the declining ones. A total of 1,910 stocks advanced while 652 declined.

In the broader market, BSE Mid-cap and Small-cap registered strong gains, advancing 2.53 per cent and 2.46 per cent respectively.

On the currency front, the rupee settled at 72.01 per US dollar, weakened by 85 paise from the Tuesday’s close of 71.86.

“Technically, with the Nifty rallying sharply higher after the bounce back seen in the previous session, the bulls are gaining control. Further upsides are likely once the immediate resistances of 10,747 are taken out,” said HDFC Securities’ Retail Research Head Deepak Jasani.

“Crucial supports to watch for any weakness are at 10,640-10,567.”

In terms of investment, provisional data from the BSE showed that foreign Institutional Investors (FII’s) sold stocks worth Rs 1,299.43 crore, whereas the Domestic Institutional Investors (DII’s) bought Rs 1,121.29 crore of shares.

All the 30 stocks on Sensex advanced led by Hero MotoCorp, which gained 7.57 per cent at Rs 3,265.30, while Yes Bank, Bharti Airtel, Adani Ports and Tata Motors (DVR) advanced in a range of 4 to

Interpol issues red corner notice against Choksi

December 13, 2018 by Nasheman

The Interpol on Thursday issued a red corner notice (RCN) against fugitive Indian diamentaire Mehul Choksi after a request from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Choksi, the chairman of the Gitanjali Group who has taken refuge in Antigua, was one of the prime accused in the Rs 13,500-crore Punjab National Bank fraud case along with his nephew Nirav Modi.

According to officials, with the RCN issued against Choksi, he could be arrested by any of the 192 member countries of the Interpol, after which extradition or deportation proceedings could begin.

In February, a Blue Corner notice was issued against Nirav Modi and Choksi in connection with the PNB fraud case.

In July, the Interpol had issued an RCN against Nirav Modi on the basis of money laundering charges levelled by the Enforcement Directorate.

The ED in October had attached both their assets in India and abroad worth Rs 218 crore.

Both left India in the first week of January, weeks before the scam was reported to the CBI.

Choksi was last traced to Antigua, where he has been granted citizenship.

The Antiguan government is believed to have cleared his application for citizenship in November 2017, for which he may have paid around Rs 1.3 crore.

He had taken the oath of allegiance as a citizen of Antigua on January 15. Days later, on January 29, the CBI filed a case and started investigating Choksi and Nirav Modi.

As he ventured into the details, he emphasized on two crucial steps:

  • Relevancy of the idea (driven by innovative approach to the current need with an eye on the future)

He stressed on the importance of no ego, lots of patience and forgiveness as crucial elements of being a great leader. For most of us,the quote that reverberated with us and hopefully will propel us to excel to be a better leader was,

“If you want to win, behave like winners!”

December 12, 2018 by Nasheman

The Union Home Department has rejected the request made by Karnataka government for use of Kannada language in the High Court said Law and Parliamentary affairs minister Krishna Byregowda on Tuesday, December 11.

Krishna Byregowda further added that not only Karnataka but other states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu had also made a similar request for using local languages in the High Courts but the union government had rejected all such proposals.

An ordinance to this effect had been passed by the Karnataka government, but even the High Court circuit bench in Karnataka had opined that it was not workable, the minister added.

High Court sessions and verdicts routinely come up before the Supreme Court and other courts in the states and if regional languages are used it becomes difficult to carry out court proceedings. Hence it cannot be allowed stated the union government.

Investigate Gauri,Pansare,Dabolkar case, if a common link appeared.

December 12, 2018 by Nasheman

The Supreme Court stated on Tuesday that if a “common thread” were found between the murders of Gauri Lankesh, Govind Pansare, MM Kalaburgi, and Narendra Dabolkhar, then the CBI alone investigate the cases involving the four social activists, according to reports.

The apex court bench, comprising of Justices U U Lalit and Navin Sinha, has reportedly given the CBI until the first week of January to provide an explanation as to why it would not be able to investigate all the four cases if a common link appeared.

After studying the reports submitted by the Karnataka State police, the court determined that there appeared to be a common thread between the murder of Gauri Lankesh and rationalist MM Kalaburgi, according to the Economic Times. The police have also reportedly told the apex court that they would file a charge sheet in the Kalburgi murder within the next three months.

On November 26, the Supreme Court had called out the Karnataka government for its inaction in the investigation and indicated that the case may be transferred to the Bombay High Court, reports say.

MM Kalaburgi, a scholar and rationalist, was killed in 2015 in Dharwad. Social activist and reformer Govind Pansare was murdered the same year as well. Narendra Dabolkhar was killed on August 20, 2013. Gauri Lankesh, an activist and journalist, was killed on September 5, 2017 outside her residence in Bengaluru.

Earlier, the Special Investigations Team (SIT) probing the murder of Gauri stated that four leaders of a pro-Hindutva outfit were the prime suspects of having plotted to kill her and other rationalists. As per a media source, six of the accused in the case executed the plot to murder Gauri.

Man allegedly raped minor daughter for 2 yrs, absconds as wife goes to cops

December 12, 2018 by Nasheman

The incident came to light after the minor girl’s mother filed a police complaint.

In a horrifying case of child sexual abuse in Bengaluru, a man has been accused of sexually assaulting his minor daughter for two years. The incident came to light after the minor girl’s mother filed a complaint with the police a fortnight ago.

According to the police, Amir*, a 45-year-old old auto driver, allegedly raped his daughter for two years and threatened to kill her if she spoke about it to anyone. “The abuse began two years ago when the survivor was only 14 years old. Amir is an auto driver and his wife Shifa* is a domestic worker. Sometime in 2016, after the girl reached puberty, the abuse began,” the Banashankari Police said.

The complaint filed by Shifa said that Amir raped her daughter Ayesha* in 2016 one day after she returned from school, the police said. When Ayesha questioned her father and told him that she would inform her mother, Amir allegedly threatened to kill her. According to the police, the father raped the child claiming that he was teaching her how to prepare for her married life.

“When the survivor’s mother went to work, Amir would sexually abuse the girl. However, about 17 days ago, the girl finally told her mother about the sexual abuse and they decided to take him to task,” the police said.

Shifa allegedly told Amir that she would be late from work. Meanwhile Ayesha returned home after school. “The accused once again tried to sexually abuse his daughter and her mother walked into the house at that very moment and caught him in the act. She then took Ayesha and went straight to the RT Nagar Police,” a senior police official said.

An FIR has been registered at the Banashankari Police Station under sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offenses punishable with life imprisonment). Amir has also been booked under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act.

“When the girl and her mother went to the police, Amir knew he would be put behind bars so he has absconded. The Banashankari Police are tracking him down,” the senior police official added.
