PKL: U Mumba outclass Dabang Delhi 41-34

December 2, 2018 by Nasheman

New Delhi Maintaining his superb form, Siddharth Desai collected 19 raid points and guided U Mumba to a fantastic 41-34 victory over Dabang Delhi in a zone A contest of the ongoing Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) at the Thyagraj stadium here on Saturday.

U Mumba trailed by nine points in the first half but produced a solid performance in the second half. Hosts Dabang Delhi led for most of the match but their defence failed to contain Desai in the second half.

Naveen Kumar scored 12 points for Delhi but just like his team he had a quiet second half.

Delhi’s raiders got into the act early to give their team a 4-1 lead after four minutes. Vinod Kumar got a two-point raid as U Mumba reduced the deficit and trailed 3-4. Naveen and Chandran Ranjit put in successful raids as Dabang Delhi looked the better team and inflicted an all out in the 7th minute to lead 10-5.

U Mumba’s famed defence was having trouble to put in tackles as Naveen was in fine form. Rohit Baliyan put in excellent raids as U Mumba fought back to level the match at 11-11 after 13 minutes.

Naveen had different ideas though as he scored four raid points in five minutes as Delhi inflicted another all out to lead 21-13. At the end of the first half Delhi enjoyed a nine-point lead with the score reading 22-13.

U Mumba could score just two tackle points in the first half with skipper Fazel Atrachali having a really quiet game.

Siddharth got a super raid in at the start of the second half as the visitors started to mount a comeback. Fazel put in a strong tackle on Ranjit as U Mumba trailed 17-22.

Joginder Narwal’s strong tackle on Siddharth got Delhi two more points as it was a super tackle. Delhi led 26-19 after 27 minutes but were down to four men.

Desai made a brilliant super raid in the 30th minute, which got five points for U Mumba as they trailed 25-26. Naveen got his super 10 in the 33rd minute as Dabang Delhi held a slender 29-28 lead.

It was all square at 30-30 with less than four minutes to play as both teams continued to exchange points. U Mumba however, inflicted an all out in the 38th minute to lead 36-32 and that all out confirmed their victory.

A four-point raid by Siddharth in the 39th minute just added gloss to the scoreline as U Mumba asserted their supremacy in style.

Dam construction at Mekedatu ‘not acceptable’: Radhakrishnan

December 1, 2018 by Nasheman

The construction of a dam at Mekedatu in Karnataka was ‘not acceptable’ and a situation that may lead to the building of the reservoir across Cauvery would not arise, Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan said Saturday.

Talking to reporters at the airport here, he said, “no one will accept the construction of the reservoir at Mekedatu.. Such a situation will not not arise.”

Recently, the Central Water Commission had allowed Karnataka to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the construction of a balancing reservoir cum drinking water project at Mekedatu across the Cauvery, which has been opposed by both the ruling AIADMK and DMK.

On the impact of cyclone Gaja in Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan said he had already discussed the relief measures with the Centre and a “good news is expected soon.”

To a query on the reported remarks on Hindu Gods by Naam Tamilar Katchi leader Seeman, he said he does not have any locus standi to comment on spirituality.

“let him talk politics, society.. if has no belief in spirituality, let him keep quiet,” he said.

Criticising the mode of agitation adopted by some farmers from Tamil Nadu in New Delhi, the Union Minister of State for Finance said they had degraded the status of other farmers.

Some farmers from Tamil Nadu had reportedly bared themselves during the protest Friday pressing for their demands, including debt relief.

On the reported observation made by Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on the increasing ‘unemployment’ in the country, he said, “only Congressmen are jobless.

Can’t return to India or I will be lynched: Nirav Modi writes to ED

December 1, 2018 by Nasheman

Fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi had communicated to Enforcement Directorate (ED) through email that he cannot return to India citing security threat to his life.

Nirav Modi, accused in the Rs 13,600-crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam, has written to the ED via mail that he cannot return to India as his former employees who have not been paid salaries, landlords who have not been paid rents, customers whose jewellery has been confiscated by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and other agencies and several other people have threatened him.

Nirav Modi, whose whereabouts are still not known, said people have burnt his effigies and the mob-lynching incidents in India have prevented him from returning.

Earlier in July this year, Gitanjali Gems chairman Mehul Choksi, Modi’s uncle who is also one of the main accused in the PNB scam, had also cited “lynching” trend in India as one of the main reason that he cannot return to India.

“There have been various cases of mob lynching in India. This recent trend of mob lynching and general public giving justice on the road is growing. Even the applicant faces a similar threat as there are several persons who have grievances and anger against him (Mr Choksi),” an application filed in the Mumbai anti-corruption court said.

The Enforcement Directorate had registered a money-laundering case against Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and others on February 15, 2018, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 on the basis of an FIR registered by the CBI.

Nirav Modi, along with his associates, has been accused of cheating Punjab National Bank in connivance with certain bank officials by fraudulently getting letters of understanding without following the prescribed procedure and causing a wrongful loss to the bank.

Nirav Modi was last located in London and an Indian extradition request is pending before the UK authorities since September.

Software engineer who worked in Bengaluru joins Ulfa

December 1, 2018 by Nasheman

A youth from Assam has claimed that he left his job as a senior software engineer in an IT firm in Bengaluru to join Ulfa (Independent), a militant group, as ‘identity of the state’s indigenous people are under serious threat.’

The youth, who identified himself as Abhijit Gogoi, hailing from Moran in eastern Assam’s Dibrugarh district, shared a video on Facebook on Friday, in which he claimed that he had joined an IT firm in Chennai soon after his post graduation in scienceand IT in 2012. He also completed MBA from Bangalore Business School and Management and travelled to Singapore, Australia and Malaysia for work before joining the Bengaluru-based IT firm. He says he worked as a senior software engineer in the company in the company but does not spell out when did he join the company.

The boy is seen standing in army camouflage with an AK 47 rifle on his right shoulder and a walkie-talkie hanging from his uniform, close to his shoulder.
The 3.59 minutes video, shot inside a jungle was shared in a Facebook profile which goes by the name – Chow Abhijeet Gogoi (Abhi). The video has since been deleted.

“I left everything to join the revolution, the revolutionary fight. I had to join the fight for the sake of the Axomiya jaati (Assamese community) and its identity. What is happening in Assam today is unfortunate. Whom do we trust? There are many many unarmed organisations in Assam, who just acts like factories to produce future political leaders. But indigenous people are fast losing identity,” Gogoi says in the video.

“We are witnessing what is happening in Tripura. Even in America, the indigenous people are facing threat,” he said.
Police officials said the youth could be talking about the protests in Assam against NDA’s Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016. The indigenous people fear that it would reduce them into minorities as it seeks to offer citizenship to non-muslim migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan, facing ‘religious persecution.’ They say a large number of Hindu migrants, who settled in Assam after March 24,1971 will get citizenship once the bill is passed. They says foreigner issue should be solved through NRC with the cut-off date of March 24, 1971, which was agreed in Assam Accord of 1985.

Police said like Gogoi, a few youths recently joined the militant group as the BJP-led government refused to listen to the public protests in Assam against the bill.

Ulfa (Independent), led by rebel leader Paresh Baruah, having its hideouts along Myanmar-China borders, has also stepped up fresh induction and attracting local youths, taking advantage of the growing anger against the government for its stand on the bill.
