Kerala CM hits out at Modi for being indifferent to state’s needs

October 22, 2018 by Nasheman

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his “negative approach” on the needs of the state, which is slowly picking up pieces after a devastating flood in August.

“I fail to understand why the Centre and the Prime Minister has taken such a negative approach to our needs. When I had met him (Modi), he was very considerate. I told him that the state’s ministers were trying to meet the Kerala diaspora settled abroad for help,” Vijayan told reporters here after returning from an official tour of the United Arab Emirates.

“At that time, Modi reminded me that he had done a similar exercise when earthquake struck his state and the Gujarati diaspora came forward to help.”

Vijayan described his 4-day trip to the UAE as successful.

Vijayan said that was the last positive vibe from the Centre. When the Kerala government sent a list of ministers with their respective plans to travel abroad, only the CM’s tour was approved.

“We have no idea why the Centre has taken such a stand against Kerala,” said Vijayan.

He said that his trip to the UAE was a huge success and members of the Kerala diaspora as also the Emirates Red Crescent have promised help to the flood-ravaged state.

Tanushree Dutta files for defamation case against Rakhi Sawant

October 22, 2018 by Nasheman

Rakhi Sawant had told the media that Tanushree Dutta ‘not harassed’ but was ‘getting doped’ on the sets of ‘Horn Ok Pleassss.’

Actor Tanushree Dutta has filed a defamation complaint worth Rs 10 crore against Rakhi Sawant, for the latter’s allegation that Tanushree was “getting doped” on the sets of Horn Ok Pleassss in 2008. Tanushree Dutta has accused veteran actor Nana Patekar of sexually harassing her on the sets of the 2008 movie.

Rakhi Sawant was called to replace Tanushree in the song which she walked out of after Nana Patekar allegedly tried to touch her inappropriately during the shoot. In an interview, Tanushree had expressed her displeasure that someone like Rakhi had been called in to replace her for the song, and she found it insulting.

On September 29, in response, Rakhi made several statements, calling her a liar and alleged that she was a drug user and that she was making the allegations for attention and publicity.

Tanushree’s advocate Nitin Satpute told India Today that they had filed a criminal and civil defamation complaint against Tanushree for maligning Rakhi’s character and images. He added that if Rakhi did not reply, she will be punished for two years.

“Tanushree Dutta yedi hai, pagal hai, ek number ki jhoothi hai” (Tanushree is mad and she’s a liar of the first order),” Rakhi had said at the press meet. Narrating the incident, Rakhi said that Tanushree was in her vanity van on the set for 3-4 hours and refused to come out despite several people on the set trying. While Tanushree had said she was in the van after Nana sexually harassed her, Rakhi alleged that Tanushree was “getting doped” inside and was unconscious for several hours.

She also accused Tanushree of continuing drug use in the US where she has been living for a while. “She was staying in [my friend] Bindu’s house. She took drugs every day there. She was not working there,” Rakhi told the media.

When asked by a reporter about how she knew that Tanushree was lying unconscious in her vanity van, considering the door was closed, Rakhi said, “You get her blood checked now! See how many drugs you find.”

She added that Tanushree had no proof of what she has been alleging. “If she has any proof, Rakhi Sawant will leave India,” Rakhi said. She also challenged Tanushree to come face to face with her, and that she would slap her if she did.

Apart from these, Rakhi also uploaded a series of videos on her Instagram, telling a similar version of events.

Nana Patekar has dismissed Tanushree’s allegations of sexual harassment and filed a defamation case against her. He has also stepped out of upcoming film Housefull 4 as a result of the accusations.

Kerala nun’s rape : Prime witness in Kerala nun rape case found dead

October 22, 2018 by Nasheman

The prime witness in the case of a Kerala nun’s rape, allegedly by Bishop Franco Mulakkal of the Jalandhar diocese, has died. Father Kuriakose Kattuthara, who had testified against the rape-accused priest, was found dead in his room at 10 am on Monday in a church in Bhogpur in Jalandhar.

While several priests, as well as his family, have alleged a conspiracy into the death, Father Peter, Mulakkal’s spokesperson from the Jalandhar diocese, asserted that Kattuthara’s death was “natural”.

“We got to know about this at 10 am today (Monday). Bishop (Franco Mulakkal) has no connection with the death of Father Kattuthara, as there was no personal enmity between them,” Father Peter was quoted as saying by CNN-News18.

The prime witness in the Kerala nun’s rape case, Father Kattuthara had also supported the protest several nuns had staged against rape-accused Mulakkal. His body has been sent for an autopsy, and the report is awaited.

Franco Mulakkal was arrested on 21 September on a nun’s complaint that he had raped her at least 13 times between 2014 and 2016. He was released from a sub-jail near Kottayam on 17 October, a day after the Kerala High Court granted him bail. He had received a rousing welcome from his supporters on reaching Jalandhar after his release.

Kattuthara was facing threats and his car was recently attacked. His sister-in-law told media
“Franco Mulakkal was threatening him from along time. We had filled a police complaint. We suspect foul play.”

Sister Anupama, who had led the nuns’ protests against Mulakkal, called Kattuthara’s death “mysterious” and said “it needs to be investigated thoroughly”.

Kerala crime branch files cases against ex-CM Oommen Chandy & MP over sexual misconduct

October 22, 2018 by Nasheman

The Kerala Crime Branch on Sunday registered a case against former state chief minister Oommen Chandy and Member of Parliament from Alappuzha K C Venugopal after a complaint of sexual harassment was filed against them by Solar scam accused Saritha S Nair.

Confirming the development, Director General of Police Loknath Behara said the cases against the two leaders were lodged on the basis of a complaint from Nair. “Let the law take its own course,” he told reporters in Thiruvananthapuram. A Special Investigation Team, headed by Superintendent of Police Abdul Karim, was constituted to probe the cases, the DGP added.

Chandy, reacting to the development, said they were prepared to face the cases legally. He claimed the cases were “politically motivated”. By lodging the cases, the attempt of the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in the state is attempting to divert the attention of the people from the ensuing Sabarimala issue, Chandy told reporters.

Nair alleged in her complaint that Chandy had sexually exploited her at Cliff House, the official residence of the chief minister, in 2012, while Venugopal had raped her at Rose House, the residence of then-state minister A P Anil Kumar.

The previous United Democratic Front (UDF) government had formed the G Sivarajan Commission when the allegations had surfaced against Nair and Biju Radhakrishanan that they had duped several people of crores of rupees by offering them solar panel solutions in 2013.

The 1,073-page, four-volume report of the Commission, tabled in the state Assembly on November 9 last year, had found that Chandy and four of his personal staff – Tenny Joppan, Jikkumon Jacon, gunman Salimraj and Kuruvilla, his aide in Delhi – had “assisted” Nair and her company, Team Solar, in enabling them to cheat their customers.

The report also contained details of the controversial letter written by Nair on 19 July 2013 to the police commissioner, in which she had levelled charges of sexual misconduct and corruption against various Congress and UDF leaders, including Chandy, some of his ministers and two former Union ministers.

The Kerala High Court had in May this year annulled the Commission’s findings against Chandy based on Nair’s letter, while partly allowing a petition filed by the Congress leader that sought to quash the panel’s findings against him.

After shwetha Pandit now Alisha Chinnai, Anu maik alleged sexual misconduct in 1995

October 22, 2018 by Nasheman

As #MeToo allegations pile up against Anu Malik, another singer has come forward to call him out for his alleged sexual misconduct. Singer Alisha Chinai, who recorded several hit songs with Malik during the 1990s, has claimed that every word said and written about the Bollywood music-composer is “true”.

Chinai has also said that she stands by all the women who have spoken up against Malik.

“Every word said and written about Anu Malik is true. I stand by all the women who have finally spoken up. May they find peace and closure in their lives,” Chinai was quoted as saying by The Asian Age.

For the uninitiated, during the release of Chinai’s hit track Made in India, the singer had accused Malik of molesting her. The two did not work together for several years, only to reunite in 2003 with Ishq Vishk.

Recently, singer Shweta Pandit accused Malik of sexually harassing her when she was 15. In a long Twitter post, Pandit recounted her ordeal and called Malik a “pedophile”. She also thanked singer Sona Mohapatra for calling him out and urged others who have been exploited by him in the past, to speak up. Mohapatra accused Malik of being a “serial offender” and alleged that he would call her at odd hours.

Meanwhile, Malik has been fired from the singing reality show Indian Idol by Sony Entertainment Television in the wake of the numerous allegations of sexual harassment that have been levelled against him by multiple women.

On Saturday, two more women came forward to accuse Malik of sexual harassment.

In her alleged encounter with Malik, the first woman recalled that the composer “rubbed his body” against her and when she expressed shock at his behavior, he apologized meekly.

Another woman, who is an aspiring singer, alleged that she was approached to participate on Indian Idol 10 as a wild card entry but she refused the offer because Malik had sexually harassed her seven years ago.

However, Malik dismissed as “ridiculous” the allegations that have been levelled against him by Pandit. He also denied knowing Mohapatra.

Malik has yet to comment on the latest development.

Kashmir shutdown today over death of 7 civilians at encounter site in Kulgam

October 22, 2018 by Nasheman

Separatists in the Kashmir valley have called for a strike today over the death of civilians in a blast at an encounter site in Kulgam district.

The strike has been called by separatists Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik under the banner of Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL).

According to reports, all schools and colleges in Kashmir will remain shut today and exams have been postponed. Train services have also been suspended in the Valley.

Three militants were killed Sunday in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district, while seven civilians lost their lives in a blast following the gunfight there.

The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and a Kashmiri Pandit organisation have extended their support to the strike called by the separatists. “In an emergency meeting held on Sunday, the executive committee of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry expressed its shock and concern at the sharp increase in the use of brutal force against the unarmed civilians of Kashmir,” a statement by the KCCI said.

Condemning the killings, the KCCI said the business community of Kashmir once again urges the government to “restrain from launching operations in civilian areas which invariably trigger more killings and worsening of the law and order situation”.

“The seemingly endless loss of innocent Kashmiri lives is a matter of pain and anguish for all of us. The KCCI offers its deepest condolences to the families of innocent unarmed civilians and requests the business community to observe a complete shutdown on Monday as a mark of protest against the brutalisation of our population,” it said in a statement.

The Kashmiri Pandit Sangarash Samiti (KPSS) also extended its support to the strike called by the separatists, saying it is mandatory for security forces to sanitise the area where encounter takes place to safeguard the lives of the civilians.

“We feel the pain of killing of civilians and injuries during cordon and search operation in Kulgam,” KPSS president Sanjay Tickoo said in a statement.

“It seems that the security forces take these basic things casually, which resulted in Sunday’s incident. While Kashmir is being pushed back to the 1990 era by people’s alienating policies by the political parties, the Central establishment is enjoying the so called victory in the Kashmir valley and is not bothered to diffuse current political turmoil in the valley,” he said.

October 22, 2018 by Nasheman

Union Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha on Sunday held the local administration responsible for the Amritsar tragedy in which 59 people were crushed to death by a train while watching the burning of the Dusshera effigy.
