‘People in Power Are Out to Destroy Me’ says Mithali Raj

November 27, 2018 by Nasheman

After a prolonged suspense over her omission from India’s playing XI during the Women’s World T20I semis, ace cricketer Mithali Raj has finally come out in open with her side of the story. The star batswoman has accused head coach Ramesh Powar and Committee of Administrators (CoA) member Diana Edulji of discrimination and bias in a letter addressed to the BCCI. Mithali has also alleged that Powar used his position to humiliate her during the World T20 in West Indies.

Mithali is the leading scorer for India in T20 Internationals (both men and women), she is even ahead of the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni and Harmanpreet Kaur in that list. The 35-year old had scored two consecutive fifties in two matches and won player of the matches awards in the coveted Women’s World T20 event. Despite being declared fit, Mithali was controversially left out of the semifinal against England.

India women cricket team’s unbeaten run was finally ended in the semifinals of World T20 when England thrashed the women in blue by eight wickets in a lopsided encounter. After India’s loss, captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s team selection and strategy came under the scanner. However, the India women’s T20 skipper said she had no regrets about her team selection.

Mithali also alleged that CoA member Edulji, who had backed her axing from India’s playing XI, “used her position against me”.  “For the first time in a 20 year long career, I felt deflated, depressed and let down. I am forced to think if my services to my country are of any value to a few people in power who are out to destroy me and break my confidence,” the veteran batswoman wrote in a letter to BCCI CEO Rahul Johri and Cricket Operations GM Saba Karim.

“I would also like to point out that I have nothing against the T20 captain Harmanpreet Kaur except for the fact that her call to support the decision of the coach to leave me out of the eleven was baffling and hurtful.

“I wanted to win the world cup for my country and it hurts me because we lost a golden opportunity.”

She slammed Edulji, a former India captain, for defending the team’s decision to drop her. “To put things in perspective, I have always reposed faith in Diana Edulji and have always respected her and her position as a member of the COA, Never did I think she will use her position against me, more after hearing what all I had to go through in the Caribbean as I had spoken to her about it.”

“Her brazen support in the press with regard to the decision of my benching in the semifinal of the T20 World Cup has left me deeply distressed, more because she knows the real facts having spoken to me.”

On Powar, Mithali narrated a series of instances where she felt a little hard done by the coach. “For instance, walking off if I am sitting anywhere around, watching in the nets when others bat but choosing to walk away when I am batting in nets, if I try to go up to him to talk to start looking into his phone and keep walking.

“It was embarrassing and very evident to everyone that I was being humiliated. Yet I never lost my cool,” she said.

-Many colleges and universities have been set up across Rajasthan. The state has gone from being 27th to number 2 in the country, in terms of education

-We have passed a very strict law on sexual harassment and rape for the safety of girls and women. Our government at the Centre recently made rape for minors punishable with capital punishment

Sabarimala protests to continue until Sec 144 is lifted: UDF

November 27, 2018 by Nasheman

The Congress-led UDF on Tuesday announced that it will continue the protests till the Kerala Police withdrew the prohibitory orders enforced in Sabarimala.

The decision was conveyed by the United Democratic Front (UDF) Convenor Benny Behanan to the media here, soon after the Liaison Committee of the leadership met here.

“We have decided that our protests will continue till the prohibitory orders in the temple town in Sabarimala are lifted. Our protests will be seen both inside and outside the Assembly,” said Behanan.

The business session of the state assembly begins on Wednesday.

The Kerala Police on Monday extended Section 144 of the CrPC that prohibits assembly of more than four persons in one place, till November 30.

Sabarimala town has been witnessing repeated protests ever since the September 28 verdict of the Supreme Court that allowed women of all ages to enter the temple that hitherto banned girls and women aged 10-50.

The apex court had on November 13 refused to stay its earlier order, three days before the temple opened for a two-month long season.

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) government-led by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has been trying to implement the top court’s order even as the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party and several Hindu groups have been up in arms against it.

Behanan added that there was “an unholy alliance between the Pinarayi Vijayan government and the BJP/RSS forces”.

“Vijayan and the Sangh Parivar forces are hand-in-glove and the former has given the chance to the latter to get glorified through their protests and arrests of their leaders.

“This is a ploy by the two forces. We have had a consistent stand on the Sabarimala issue. We will not withdraw our protest till the prohibitory order is withdrawn,” Behanan added.

In a related development Rehana Fathima, who had attempted to visit the Lord Ayyappa temple, escorted by the police on October 19, was arrested on Tuesday.

Fathima had faced massive protests from devotees and had to return midway.

She was arrested after a Bharatiya Janata Party leader had complained to the police that she had made inflammatory comments on her Facebook page.

The security forces had surrounded Redwani around 2 a.m. after receiving a tip that two to three terrorists were hiding in the south Kashmir village.

Centre to inject Rs 42,000 crore in state-run banks by March

November 27, 2018 by Nasheman

The government will pump Rs 42,000 crore into debt-laden public sector banks in the remainder of the current financial year to March to improve their financial health, a senior Finance Ministry official said on Monday.

“We will infuse the next tranche of recapitalisation in public sector banks by mid-December. About Rs 42,000 crore remains to be infused as capital in the banks in the current financial year,” the official said.

The Rs 42,000 crore capital infusion is part of the Rs 2.11 lakh crore, two-year, front-loaded bank recapitalisation plan announced by the government in October 2017 to support credit growth.

While recapitalisation of banks will be based on regulatory capital requirement and also on the need to fuel growth, large banks like State Bank of India (SBI) and PNB are less likely to get any additional infusion this fiscal year to March.

The government is going ahead with the remaining capital infusion plan despite the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) extending the deadline for meeting the Basel III norms by a year.

On November 19, keeping the capital adequacy ratio for banks unchanged at 9 per cent, the RBI extended the deadline to meet Basel III norms from March 2019 to March 2020 in order to increase the current lending capacity of banks.

Further, the official said four to five public sector banks, whose NPAs have gone down and current account-savings account ratios (CASA) have improved, may come out of the RBI’s prompt corrective action (PCA) framework.

Currently, 11 banks with high bad debts are under the PCA framework that prohibit them from further lending. On the insistence of the central government, the RBI’s Board for Financial Supervision is expected to meet soon on the issue.

The government’s Rs 2.11 lakh crore recapitalisation was to be funded through sale of bonds worth Rs 1.35 lakh crore, budgetary provisions of Rs 18,139 crore and Rs 58,000 crore from the market by diluting the government’s equity share.

Of the Rs 1.35 lakh crore, the government has already recapitalised banks with Rs 82,000 crore. In July, it infused Rs 11,336 crore in five banks – Punjab National Bank, Allahabad Bank, Andhra Bank, Indian Overseas Bank and Corporation Bank.

November 27, 2018 by Nasheman

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has cleared the loans of over one thousand farmers in Uttar Pradesh.

“Cleared the loans of farmers from Uttar Pradesh… select few were booked by me on train from Varanasi, and given OTS (‘OTS: One Time Settlement with Bank Of India’),” Amitabh tweeted late on Monday.

He also personally met some of them to give them their bank letters.

“And then the meeting with the farmers from UP and the giving of the OTS certificates to a select few from the 1398.

“Let the Laxmi of the house, the daughter give them that. Laxmi the Goddess of wealth. Shweta, the daughter, the Laxmi of the house,” he wrote.

He shared his photographs with Shweta on the blogpost.

Amitabh did the OTS and invited 70 farmers to Mumbai by blocking an entire train compartment for them to personally give away the bank letters.

Earlier in 2017, the “Piku” star helped over 350 farmers by paying off their debts and helping the families of 44 Maharashtra soldier who died in combat.

He had then handed over the amount to the farmers and the soldier’s families along with his wife Jaya.
