The Transport Department has recently sent an internal notification to its officers reminding them on violations regarding the helmet rule in the state.

BENGALURU: The Transport Department has recently sent an internal notification to its officers reminding them on violations regarding the helmet rule in the state. The notice clarifies that those without helmets  will have to pay a fine of `500 as well as have their driving licence suspended for three months.
“The new Motor vehicle Act was effective from September 1 last year. But there is a lack of enforcement on the ground and awareness. The notification was sent to inform all the officers that both punishments apply to the violation and for both the rider as well as the pillion rider,” said N Shivakumar, Transport Commissioner.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Traffic (North) Sajeeth V J said, “The traffic police do not have the power to suspend licence, they have to write to the RTO offices for DL suspension.”According to a traffic inspector, more than 1,000-2,000 licences are sent for suspension. Over 20.7 lakh violators have been booked by the Bengaluru Traffic Police until September 31 along with 12.5 lakh pillion riders without helmet.

IPL 13: This season we weren’t really there, says CSK skipper Dhoni after losing to RR

October 20, 2020 by Nasheman

CSK are out of play-offs as they only have six points out of 10 games so far. They have four games left in the season.

ABU DHABI: After losing against Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets, Chennai Super Kings(CSK) skipper MS Dhoni said that the team failed to get going in this season and were not really at the top of their game.

CSK are out of play-offs as they only have six points out of 10 games so far. They have four games left in the season.

Dhoni said the wicket had something for fast bowlers and CSK spinners failed to get the same help as Rajasthan spinners got.

Shreyas Gopal and Rahul Tewatia scalped one wicket each and just gave 32 runs in the eight overs combined which helped them to restrict CSK at 125/5.

“There was a bit for the fast bowlers. The reason I brought on Jadeja was to see how much it’s stopping. But it didn’t stop much. In the second innings I think it got better because our spinners didn’t get the same bite. It’s about going back to the process, and then see if the process is wrong,” Dhoni told the host broadcaster Star Sports after the match.

“We play in front of millions of people so there is nothing to hide. We’re trying a few things. You don’t want to chop and change. Insecurity is something you don’t want to prevail in the dressing room. Fair enough, this season we weren’t really there. Also the youngsters, we didn’t see the spark to push the guys. But what this result has done is give those youngsters a chance in the rest of the tournament,” he added.

RR chased down a total of 126 with seven wickets in hand and 15 balls to spare. Jos Buttler played a match-winning knock of 70 runs while skipper Steve Smith played an unbeaten inning of 26 runs.

Rajasthan was 28/3 at one stage but Buttler and Smith put together an unbeaten stand of 98 runs to take their side over the line. Deepak Chahar was the pick of CSK bowlers as he returned with figures of 2-18 in his four overs.

Batting first, CSK posted a total of 125/5 in the allotted twenty overs. Ravindra Jadeja top-scored for the MS Dhoni-led side as he played an unbeaten knock of 35 runs.

For RR, Shreyas Gopal returned with the best bowling figures as he finished with figures of 1-14 in his four overs.

CSK will now take on Mumbai Indians at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday, October 23.

KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday urged residents of an old age home in the southern part of the city’s Chetla area to stay indoors during the Durga Puja to combat the COVID-19 contagion.

Banerjee, who is a regular to the old age home every year before the Durga Puja, urged the residents to watch the pujas on the television.

“You see the pujas on the television this year because your staying healthy is very important for me,” Banerjee told the residents of the old age home.

She also expressed her hesitancy to visit the old age home due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“I know you all. I was initially scared that my coming might create a crowd which might increase the chance of infection and then I thought of keeping all of you inside the room so that I can see you all and speak to you. BARC charges Republic TV with misrepresenting pvt communication

BARC charges Republic TV with misrepresenting pvt communication

Mumbai: TV viewership rating agency BARC India has charged Republic TV of misrepresenting its private and confidential communication, saying it has not commented on the ongoing investigation into the alleged manipulation of ratings.

In a statement, Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) said it was cooperating with the law enforcement agencies in their ongoing investigation in the Television Rating Points (TRP) manipulation case.

Responding to claims by Republic TV that an email from BARC gives proof of the channel not being involved in any alleged malpractices, the agency said it was “highly disappointed” with the broadcaster’s actions.

“BARC India is highly disappointed with the actions of the Republic Network by disclosing private and confidential communications and misrepresenting the same.

“BARC India reiterates that it has not commented on the ongoing investigation and without prejudice to BARC India’s rights, it expresses its dismay at the actions of the Republic Network,” it said.

Mumbai police, on a BARC complaint, is investigating allegations of manipulation of TRP ratings. Republic TV is one of the four channels being investigated.

The BARC statement came after Republic TV disclosed what it said was an email conversation between the agency’s CEO Sunil Lulla and Republic Media Network CEO Vikas Khanchandani.

As per the TV network’s website, Khanchandani wrote an email to BARC on October 16, to “confirm in public domain” that the body has found no infringement by Republic.

“In response to Khanchandani’s email, BARC responded on October 17, by thanking the network for their ‘faith in the internal mechanisms of BARC’ and said that ‘if there was any disciplinary action initiated against ARG Outlier Media (Republic’s owner), then BARC India would have communicated the same to you along with necessary documents for your response”,” the website said.

“Thus, this e-mail proves that BARC did not allege any malpractice against the Republic Media Network,” it added.

Reacting to BARC’s statement, Republic TV owner Arnab Goswami told PTI, that the email of BARC confirms that the police commissioner lied. (Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh) should immediately quit, Goswami said.

BARC did not elaborate on the exact parts of the email which makes it feel that the communication was “misrepresented”.

Six people have been arrested by the police in the scam, which allegedly involves inducing homes which form the sample set whose TV viewing is monitored to ensure that certain channels get higher ratings. The ratings are a key influencer of advertiser preferences while placing commercials. The police claim this is a “multi-crore” scam.

Don't let us beg, allow live concerts: Musician to Maharashtra govt

Aurangabad: A musician out of work due to the coronavirus-induced restrictions has appealed to the Maharashtra government to allow artists to hold live concerts and shows to sustain their livelihood.

Amar Wankhede, who used to earn his living by playing synthesizer in orchestra shows, stood in a market place in Aurangabad city for 12 hours on Saturday carrying a placard with the message: ‘Don’t let us beg, save artist, save art’.

Since the lockdown came into force, live concerts and musical performances are prohibited across the state.

As Wankhede is left with no other means of earning, he came out on a road in Cannought area here to make people understand the plight of artists like him.

“Live shows and musical events are not being held since the past seven months. Many people are dependent on this profession for their bread and butter,” he told PTI.

“We don’t want any incentives or aid from the government. We only need permission to resume our work,” the artist said.

Wankhede said he also came to know that an artist from Pune committed suicide 10 to 15 days ago.

“The government is chalking out standard operating procedures (SOP) to resume activities in many sectors. We will also follow the norms and take all care if we are allowed to resume our work,” he said.

Wankhede also appealed to people to run a online campaign for saving artists like him.

“We expect to get permission to resume work from next month, otherwise will have to agitate for our demands,” Wankhede said.

Mohammed Shami was very clear on bowling six yorkers in Super Over: KL Rahul

Dubai: Kings XI Punjab captain KL Rahul lauded his pace spearhead Mohammed Shami for his ability and clarity of thought to bowl six yorkers in the Super Over while defending just five runs in their dramatic IPL match against Mumbai Indians here.

The match on Sunday night ended in a tie in the regulation 20 overs and KXIP could only score five runs in the first Super Over but Shami bowled brilliantly to restrict MI to the same score.

KXIP eventually won the match in the second Super Over.

“You can never prepare for Super Overs. No team does. So you have to trust your bowler’s gut. You trust your bowler, and let them believe their instinct and gut,” Rahul said at the post-match presentation.

“He (Shami) was very clear he wanted to go with six yorkers. He has been phenomenal, and keeps getting better every game. It is important that senior players win the games for the team.”

Rahul, who was named man of the match for his 77, expressed happiness at the victory but said his side would not want to make a habit of winning like this. Even in the last game against RCB, KXIP could have finished the job earlier than they eventually did.

“It is not the first time. But we don’t want to make a habit out of it. We will take the two points in the end. It doesn’t always happen the way you plan so you don’t really know how to stay balanced.

“I was just hoping we get over the line because the boys have been working really really hard. In the games that we have lost, even then we have played well and just not been able to get over the line.”

He said the wicket was slightly slower, increasing the significance of scoring quick runs in the Powerplay.

“I knew Chris (Gayle) and (Nicholas) Pooran… I trust them to take down spinners. So Chris coming in has made my job easier as a batter.”

On his side winning two back-to-back close matches, he said, “We still want to take it one game at a time. It is sweet after the kind of matches we have lost but the talk in the dressing room is to focus on the process.

“We know we need to win everything from here, but we can’t forget the processes that lead to a win.”

Mumbai Indians batsman Kieron Pollard said the match showed that every run counted.

“In T20 cricket, 1 run and 2 runs are very very crucial. I am sure it was great for viewership. KXIP got the better of us and deserved the two points. KL again batted beautifully, going down to a Super Over, congratulations to them,” he said.

“Around the 11-12 over, we knew we were a couple of overs behind. Getting 170-odd, that was a good total – above-par on a track that was on the slower side. With the dimensions, we thought we can defend that.”

Despite the loss, Pollard said his side played good cricket.

“It’s a matter of trying to improve each and every time. There are a couple of areas we need to improve on. We have a four-day break, enough time to reflect. The guys are confident in the dressing room.

“I was told that he (Rohit) is not feeling well (after the loss). We’ll see what happens. He’s a fighter,” said the West Indian who remained not out on 34 off just 12 balls.

New low-pressure area forming over Bay of Bengal, heavy rainfall expected in Odisha till Oct 22

October 19, 2020 by Nasheman

Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area, likely to form over the Bay of Bengal by Monday, is expected to trigger heavy rainfall in many parts of Odisha in the next four days, the Meteorological Centre here said.

A cyclonic circulation lies over east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, and under its influence, the fresh low-pressure area is likely to develop over the same region, it said on Sunday.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur mainly in southern and coastal parts of Odisha till October 22 due to the system, Meteorological Centre Director H R Biswas said.

There will be a moderate downpour in other parts of the state during this period, he said.

Nine low-pressure systems have been formed over the Bay of Bengal since August.

Fishermen have been asked not to venture into the deep sea from October 19 to 22 as the Meteorological Centre has forecast squally weather conditions with wind speed likely reaching 40-50 kmph over the Bay of Bengal.

In view of the weather forecast, the Odisha government has geared up its preparation to deal with any flood-like situation and landslides in the hilly region.

Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) PK Jena issued a fresh advisory and asked district officials to be prepared to manage any exigency.

Water Resources department engineer-in-chief Jyotirmay Rath said water levels of all major rivers such as Vansadhara, Nagavali, and Rushikulya are being constantly monitored in view of the heavy rainfall forecast in south Odisha.

He said rivers in the southern region are flowing below the danger mark.

Senior and experienced officers are being sent with adequate flood-fighting materials to keep a close watch on the river embankments, he said.

Nodal officers have also been appointed in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Balasore, and Bhadrak to deal with any situation, the official said.

The Meteorological Centre has forecast heavy rainfall in some places of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts on Monday.
