Delhi HC seeks info on release of movie purportedly based on late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s life

June 23, 2021 by Nasheman

Late actor Sushant Singh Rajput

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court Wednesday sought to know whether movie, ‘Nyay: The Justice’, which is purportedly based on the life of late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, has been released as scheduled on June 11 after both the director of the film and the actor’s father gave contradictory statements on the aspect.

The high court was hearing an appeal filed by Rajput’s father Krishna Kishore Singh challenging a single judge’s order refusing to stay the release of the movie or to restrain anyone from using his son’s name or likeness in movies.

A vacation bench of Justices Anup Jairam Bhambhani and Jasmeet Singh raised a preliminary query whether the film has been released on OTT platform as was scheduled on June 11.

Senior advocate Jayant Mehta, representing Rajput’s father, said it has not been released yet.

However, senior advocate Chander Lall for the film director, said his instructions are to the contrary.

To this, senior advocate Harish Salve, also representing Rajput’s father, suggested that this fact be verified before proceeding further with the matter.

The bench said, “let the fact be verified. To verify this aspect, list on June 25.”

The single judge had on June 10, refused to stay the release of several movies, including ‘Nyay: The Justice’, saying these films are neither portrayed as biopic nor factual narration of what transpired in his life.

Tamil Nadu minister says squirrels running on power cables led to outages, gets trolled

June 23, 2021 by Nasheman

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister V Senthil Balaji was on Tuesday trolled for his remark that frequent power outages in the state were caused by squirrels running on power lines.

“In certain places power outages occur when two cables come into contact due to squirrels running on the power cable while the tree branches rub onto the other line,” Balaji reasoned during a press briefing.

Ridiculing him, PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss, an ally of the opposition AIADMK, asked, “wonder what could be the reason for power cuts in Chennai nowadays? Maybe squirrels are running underground in Chennai? #Doubt,” he tweeted.

Ramadoss, a medical doctor by profession, said in another tweet, “squirrels run over the power lines where scrub touches the cable, causing power outage: (says) Electricity Minister Senthil Balaji! – Science. Science! #TNpowerCuts.”

Many social media users also questioned Balaji’s logic, while hilarious memes involving squirrels also did the rounds.

During the press briefing, the minister had accused the previous AIADMK government of not initiating maintenance work and said this had led to frequent power cuts.

Mysuru reports first case of Delta Plus variant of Covid-19 in Karnataka

June 23, 2021 by Nasheman

BENGALURU: Mysuru has reported the first case of Delta Plus variant of COVID-19 in Karnataka, and the infected person is asymptomatic and none of his contacts have contracted the virus, Health Minister K Sudhakar said on Wednesday.

“In Mysuru, one patient is infected with Delta Plus variant, whom we have isolated but he is asymptomatic and none of his primary and secondary contacts have it. That is a good sign,” Sudhakar told reporters.

The minister said the state government is carefully monitoring the emergence of new variants and it has decided to set up six genome labs in the state.

“Wherever we have suspicion, we are doing genomic sequencing. We are doing random checks of five per cent of the total samples checked,” Sudhakar said.

According to Sudhakar, Karnataka is conducting about 1.5 lakh to two lakh COVID-19 tests daily.

He said the government is sending vaccines to all the districts wherever there is suspicion of Delta Plus sequencing.

On the preparedness to deal with the third COVID wave, which is believed to affect children, Sudhakar said preparations are afoot to set up paediatric wards with ICU, and appoint doctors and nurses within 45 days in all the districts.

Goa steps up monitoring along Maharashtra border as Covid ‘Delta Plus’ variant raises alarm

June 23, 2021 by Nasheman

PANAJI: The Goa government has increased surveillance along the border adjoining Maharashtra in the wake of the neighbouring state reporting cases of the COVID-19 ‘Delta Plus’ variant, which is considered highly infectious.

Since the ‘Delta Plus’ variant has been found in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district adjoining Goa, “surveillance along the border has been stepped up”, the CM said.

On Monday, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Monday said 21 cases of the ‘Delta Plus’ variant have been found in the state so far, including nine in Ratnagiri, seven in Jalgaon, two in Mumbai, and one case each in Palghar, Thane and Sindhudurg districts.

Sawant said Goa has so far reported 26 cases of the COVID-19 ‘Delta’ variant, which were detected in samples sent to a laboratory in Pune.

He said the Goa Medical College and Hospital (located near Panaji), North Goa District Hospital (Mapusa), South Goa District Hospital (Margao) and Victor Hospital (Margao) have been collecting COVID-19 patients’ samples which are sent to the Pune-based lab to check for variants of the virus.

Sawant also said his government has allowed private laboratories to set up their facilities along the Goa-Maharashtra border.

“If we find any suspect (entering Goa with the coronavirus infection), he is isolated and tested before being allowed to move around in the state,” Sawant said.

On Tuesday, Goa reported 303 new COVID-19 cases that took its tally of infections to 1,64,957, while 11 fatalities pushed the death toll to 3,008, as per the state health department.

WTC final: Two Spectators ejected from Rose Bowl for racially abusing NZ’s Ross Taylor

June 23, 2021 by Nasheman

“We received reports of abuse directed at the New Zealand players. Our security team were able to identify the culprits and they were ejected from the ground,” the ICC said in a statement.

“We will not tolerate any sort of abusive behaviour in cricket.”

According to a report in ‘ESPNcricinfo’, the “two fans were in Block M, which is just below the on-site hotel where both teams are staying.”

“It is understood that the abuse was both general and racist in nature. The ground security was triggered into action after the ICC was alerted by some fans through social media about the two persons who allegedly carried out the abuse.”

It is understood that most of the abuse was directed towards Kiwi batsman Ross Taylor.

However, New Zealand pacer Tim Southee said none of the players is aware of any such incident.

“No, it’s the first (time) I’ve heard of it. The game is always played in a good spirit on the field. We’re not sure obviously what’s happening off the field,” Southee said during the virtual press conference.

In January this year, a group of fans were removed from the Sydney Cricket Ground stands after India pacer Mohammed Siraj was on the receiving end of racial abuse during a Test against Australia.

On day 5 of the WTC final, India were 64 for two in their second innings, leading by 32 runs after dismissing New Zealand for 249.

No vaccine no salary: Ujjain collector tells government staff

June 23, 2021 by Nasheman

UJJAIN: In a bid to achieve the target of 100 per cent vaccination against COVID-19, the Ujjain district administration in Madhya Pradesh has issued an order saying government employees will not get their salaries from next month if they are not inoculated.

The order said salaries of government employees will not be disbursed, if they fail to get vaccinated till July 31.

The salaries of employees for July will be disbursed only after producing the vaccination certificate, a district official said.

“We are making all possible efforts to achieve the target of cent per cent vaccination in the district. Several steps have been taken in this direction,” Singh told PTI on Wednesday while confirming the order.

The order also said the district treasury officer has been directed to collect vaccination certificates along with the disbursement of salaries for June, and compile the information about the inoculation of government employees against the coronavirus infection.

Heads of various departments in the district were also directed to submit information about vaccination among the daily wage and contractual employees.

As per the order, during the review of deaths of government employees due to COVID-19 in the district, it was found they were not vaccinated.

The man established physical relations with her on promise of marriage, she complained.
