No one held responsible for Chamarajanagar oxygen shortage tragedy: DKS

July 2, 2021 by Nasheman

Karnataka Congress Chief D K Shivakumar

BENGALURU: KPCC President DK Shivakumar on Thursday raised the Chamarajanagar hospital tragedy to pin down the government. He alleged that the those who had died due to oxygen shortage had been “murdered” by the system, but no one was officially held responsible for the tragedy.

He alleged that everyone, right from the minister to officers, had information about oxygen shortage, yet measures were not taken to rectify the situation. He said he had visited the families, and one of the victims was the mother of a national level shooter. “He was traumatised after he saw his mother passing away before his eyes. They tried to shift the bodies from there to cover up,” he alleged.

Among the dead, 80%  were less than 40 years old, and one of the victims was a mere 3-month-old infant, while another was married for just three months. “I will take up these issues in the assembly,” he said.

Shivakumar alleged that there was also a mix-up and one of the victim’s bodies was handed over to the wrong family. “The victim’s families were also denied death certificates, which is why they are not getting compensation. The government has ‘murdered’ people and is now trying to certify some of them as natural deaths,” he said. Shivakumar distributed Rs 1 lakh to each family on behalf of the party.

Sunanda Pushkar death case: Delhi Court adjourns to July 27 orders on framing of charges against Shashi Tharoor

July 2, 2021 by Nasheman

NEW DELHI: Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Friday once again adjourned the passing of order on the issue of framing of charges in Sunanda Pushkar death case to July 27.

Tharoor, former union minister, who is currently on bail in the case, was chargesheeted by Delhi Police under Sections 498-A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Special Judge Geetanjali Goyal recently had kept the order reserved after prosecution and defence counsel concluded their arguments on the issue of framing of charges. Public prosecutor stressed that Pushkar has undergone mental cruelty which led to her bad health. Public Prosecutor also argued that it was not an accidental death and relied on the post mortem report which suggests that the cause of death is poisoning which could be oral or injected.

Prosecutor also said due to the mental cruelty caused to Pushkar, her health became worse. The prosecutor further added that Pushkar was earlier not facing any health issue but problems began due to “stress and betrayal”.

Tharoor’s Defence counsel and Senior Advocate Vikas Pahwa said the prosecution is not able to establish evidence against the leader and the theory of injecting poison is in the air and can not be admissible.

Pushkar was found dead in a suite of a luxury hotel in the city on the night of January 17, 2014. Tharoor was later charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including for abetment to suicide and cruelty.
