Rakhi Sawant’s husband is still married to me, claims Bihar woman

December 21, 2021 by Nasheman

BETTIAH: A resident of this north Bihar town has left his family members, including his estranged wife, shocked by appearing in reality show “Bigg Boss” as the husband of actress Rakhi Sawant.

“The complainant currently resides at her parents’ home in Nawada. In her complaint, handed over to us by her brother Ravikant, she has claimed to have tied the knot with Ritesh at a marriage hall in Bettiah”, said the Superintendent of Police Upendra Nath Verma.

The woman had started living separately a few years back after lodging a complaint of domestic violence against her husband and in-laws, though she claims the couple did not divorce each other, said the SP.

The family of Ritesh Raj, whose father is a retired station master, is also baffled.

“We do not know when and how he married the actress. I learnt about it from my neighbours who informed me after spotting him on TV”, Madhubala Devi, the mother of Ritesh, said with a touch of incredulity.

She said her son was an IIT alumni, worked as a software professional in Bengaluru who frequently travelled abroad “because of which he does not remain in touch with us on a regular basis”.

Meanwhile, the SP said an investigation has been launched, and based on evidence an FIR may be lodged against Ritesh Raj under relevant sections of the IPC and Hindu Marriage Act.

According to media reports, Sawant had confirmed her marriage to Ritesh in 2019 and claimed that he was an “NRI”.

Linking Aadhaar with electoral roll will clean voters list of multiple enrolment: Government sources

December 21, 2021 by Nasheman

NEW DELHI: Amid Opposition criticism of a bill to link Aadhaar with electoral rolls, sources in the government on Tuesday said the move would solve the “major problem” of multiple enrolment of the same person at different places and help in “cleaning” the voters list to a great extent.

The assertion comes a day after the ‘Election Laws (Amendment) bill 2021’ to link electoral roll data with the Aadhaar ecosystem and bring other poll reforms was passed by the Lok Sabha after a brief debate and amid demand by the Opposition to refer it to a standing committee.

The government sources said the bill incorporates various electoral reforms which have been discussed for a long time.

Registration in the electoral roll is done based on an application by a person who is eligible to be registered as a voter and this bill has a provision whereby the new applicant may voluntarily provide the Aadhaar number along with the application for the purpose of identity, they said.

No application will be rejected on the grounds that Aadhaar number has not been provided, the sources added.

Aadhaar linking with electoral roll will solve “one of the major problems” in electoral database management which is multiple enrolment of the same person at different places, they said.

This may be due to the frequent shifting of residence by electors and getting enrolled in the new place without deleting the previous enrolment, the sources noted.

Thus, the possibility of electors whose names appear in more than one electoral roll or at times more than once in the same electoral roll can be removed, they said.

Once Aadhaar linkage is achieved, the electoral roll data system will instantly alert the existence of previous registration(s) whenever a person applies for new registration, the sources said.

This will help in “cleaning” the electoral roll to a great extent and facilitate voter registration in the location at which they are ‘ordinarily resident’, the sources added.

Besides linking electoral roll to Aadhaar, the bill also seeks to make the statutes gender neutral by substituting the term ‘wife’ with ‘spouse’ to allow husbands of service voters to cast their vote from the place where their wives are posted.

It also seeks to provide four qualifying dates — January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1 — in a year for registration of voters, instead of a single qualifying date — January 1.

Decisive action against miscreants to stop vandalism: CM Bommai

December 21, 2021 by Nasheman

Parmesh S Jain

Amid tension over the defacing of the statue of 19th century warrior Sangolli Rayanna here, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said “decisive action” would be taken against miscreants who disturb law and order in the state.

State government would take decisive steps to stop vandalism.Stringent action would be initiated against those who take law into their hands, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said speaking to media persons in Belagavi.

“The main perpetrators of the recent vandalism in Karnataka have already been arrested. We will not allow any hooliganism to continue,” Bommai said.

State Home Secretary and DG of Police have taken up the issue with their Maharashtra counterparts to protect the life and property of Kannadigas in Maharashtra, and also providing security for Karnataka government vehicles, Bommai said.

Replying to a query on miscreants defacing Sangolli Rayanna’s statue in Belagavi bordering Maharashtra last week, Bommai said the police have arrested all the main accused related to the case.

There is no question of letting go even an inch of Karnataka’s border. It is a clear stand of the government that the Mahajan report is final on the border issue, still, some individuals and organisations are repeatedly causing disturbance to the peace and it is condemnable.

This House unanimously condemns such acts and decides to punish the miscreants involved in it,” Bommai said.

Following the defacement of freedom fighters’ statues in Karnataka, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said in the state Assembly that the accused in these incidents will be booked for sedition as they are “anti-nationals”.

“The previous governments were never doing this. We are controlling them all,” Bommai said.

The House sought action against those who indulged in such activities, including workers of the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi (MES).

Bommai informed the legislators that the government is planning to book the accused in these incidents for sedition and also under the state’s Goonda Act. “

There are some leaders who are behind these actions and they want to disrupt peace and harmony. We will go after the people who are behind it and will take action.

They are (Sangolli Rayanna and Shivaji Maharaj) are freedom fighters who fought for the nation and whoever indulges in maligning their images are anti-nationals,” he added

Meanwhile, various Kannada organisations on Monday staged protests blocking the National Highway-4 at Hire Bagewadi in Belagavi where the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha is located.

The activists who came to Belagavi in huge numbers from various parts of Karnataka staged a road blockade.

They were seen intercepting ministers and legislators who were on the way to the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, where the Legislature session is on, demanding stringent action and ban on the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti, members of which were allegedly behind the incident.

Praveen Shetty of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, who spearheaded the agitation, demanded the externment of MES activists.

We demand ban on MES and externment of their leaders. They dare to destroy the statue of Sangolli Rayanna. We will observe bandh. We are all going to meet together under the leadership of Vatal Nagaraj,” Shetty told reporters.

GURUGRAM: A right-wing group disrupting Friday namaz being held in the open here on Sunday asked Muslims to “reconvert” and pray in Hindu temples.

Ancestors of a majority of Haryana Muslims belonged to Hindu community, said Mahaveer Bhardwaj, chairman of the Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, a body of 32 right-wing Hindu outfits.

“We can organise a mass ‘ghar wapsi’ in Leisure Valley here and they will be taken back in their castes and accepted with open arms,” Bharadwaj said.

“They will have their temples to pray and this namaz issue will end,” he added.

In the past some months, members of some Hindu outfits have objected to the offering of “namaz” by Muslims in open spaces.

They have been raising “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Jai Shri Ram” slogans to disrupt the Friday prayers by Muslims.
