Around 3000 inmates of Central Prison above 18 years got Vaccinated in Bengaluru

June 4, 2021 by Nasheman

Pramesh Jain

The central prison of Parappana Agarahara on Tuesday vaccinated as many as 2731 inmates who are above 18 year of age.

The prison department had also vaccinated 553 inmates who are 45years and above last month. However the rest of the inmates among the total 4678 inmates are waiting for their turn to get the jab.

Alok Mohan,Director General of Police Prisons and Correctional services who are supervising the vaccination drive, told reporters, that 32 out of 49 prisons across the state do not have a single positive case.

The remaining 17 prisons have few cases,he said, adding that the central prison of Parappana agrahara central prison has 13 positive cases and have been admitted to the prison ward of Epidemic disease hospital in Indiranagar .

He reiterated that the 32 prisons have zero covid cases because of the high standard of hygiene and sanitization maintained with strict guidelines in the premises.

It is mandatory for new admission to get covid RT-PCR test report.Even then the inmates are subjected to tests and will be housed  in a quarantine cell for 15 days,Mr.Alok Mohan said, adding that the inmate will again be tested after 15 days and if it is negative he would be allowed to the normal cell.

The prison officials and staff have been strictly directed to use masks, sanitization and face shields while on duty and provided additional supply of soaps and sanitizers and masks to the inmates .

The prison department also since March  released as many as 1013 inmates and prisoners on parole and bail following  the Supreme Court directions.

Another main reason for containing injection spread is that the prison department stopped physical production and arranging the trial on video conferencing. This not only helps to control the spread of infection but also saves government resources on police escort and vehicles to ferry inmates to courts and back .

Since covid the prison department suspended family meetings and started a new VC facility for the inmates to talk to their families since January this year.As many as 7,000 inmates have availed the facility since then and chatted with the family members on video chats and zoom calls .

Asked whether the class 12 exams conducted by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council will be cancelled, Sarma.

June 3, 2021 by Nasheman

The Union government on Tuesday decided to cancel the CBSE Class 12 board exams amid the COVID-19 pandemic with Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserting that the decision has been taken in the interest of students and that the anxiety among students, parents and teachers must be put to an end.

“We welcome the decision taken by the prime minister. We will wait till the CBSE announces the modalities for marking the students.

“We will have to take a practical decision as a guardian and take into consideration the students who aspire to pursue medical or engineering courses and what will be the admission criteria for them,” he said.

On the issue of peace talks with insurgent groups, the chief minister said a peace treaty will be signed with an insurgent group of Karbi Anglong district next week.

Asked about the possibility of holding peace talks with major militant group ULFA, he said as elected public representatives, the ministers take oath to protect the sovereignty of India and it cannot be compromised.

“The ULFA wants sovereignty. So, we will have to find out a way on how to start the peace process and as a chief minister I will contribute in whatever way I can to create a conducive atmosphere,” he said.

On the issue of COVID-19 vaccination in Assam, Sarma said 13 lakh vaccines were received by the state in May while 19 lakh vaccines will be received in June and 35 lakh in July.

“I am sure we will vaccinate all willing residents of Assam by the end of December,” he said.

On the recent attack on a doctor engaged in COVID-19 duty, the chief minister said all those who were involved in the assault of the doctor were arrested and he has directed the police that investigation in the case should be completed in 15 days, charge sheet should be filed within a month and conviction should be ensured in three to six months.

“I want to tell everyone that there is zero tolerance to such inhuman acts. We will hit back and there will be a bigger reaction to such action,” he said.

Sarma said during his four-day visit to Delhi, he met Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman among others.

“The prime minister advised me that I should visit every district and stay two nights there to gauge the problems of that district instead of going for a day-long visit in a helicopter. I will follow this advice and visit every district one by one every seven to 10 days,” he said.

Sarma also said the prime minister has advised him to give responsibility to every minister and to talk to a group of eight MLAs, both ruling and opposition parties, every week and place their issues before the cabinet for resolution

By 2025, there would be a greater number of internet users in rural India than in urban India

June 3, 2021 by Nasheman

“Vernacular, Voice and Video will emerge as the game changers for the digital ecosystem over the next few years,” Biswapriya Bhattacharjee, Executive Vice President, Insights Division, Kantar said in a statement on the report.

The report suggests that even though the internet penetration in urban India is over two times than rural areas, the usership in rural areas has been growing at a faster rate on a year-on-year basis.

“While internet users grew by 4 per cent in urban India — reaching 323 million users (67 per cent of urban population) in 2020, digital adoption continues to be propelled by rural India – clocking a 13 per cent growth to 299 million internet users (31 per cent of rural population) over the past year,” the report said.

The study by internet companies body IAMAI with consulting company Kantar found that small towns account for almost two out of five active internet users (AIU) while the top 9 metros account for 33 per cent of the AIU in urban India.

According to the report, of the 1433 million (143.3 crore) population in India, 622 million individuals are AIU and this translates to about 43 per cent of the total population across urban and rural India.

However, with a sizable population not accessing the internet actively in rural India, there is huge headroom for growth in the next few years, the report said.

“This indicates that there’s a lot of headroom for growth in rural India and this would help in bridging the urban-rural digital divide,” the report said.

As per the finding, nine out of ten AIU access the internet every day.

On average, AIU spend around 107 minutes (1.8 hours) actively on the internet daily.

“Though the proportion of daily users is marginally higher in urban India as compared to rural India, AIU in urban India is spending 17 per cent more time as compared to rural India,” the report said.

Mobile continues to remain the device of choice for accessing the internet in both urban and rural areas.

“Given the affordability of mobile devices along with the availability of cheaper data plans, accessing the internet through a mobile device has clearly become the first choice,” the report said
