Congress accuses BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, his uncle Ravi Subramanya of making money through vaccines

May 31, 2021 by Nasheman

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Saturday accused BJP MP Tejasvi Surya and his uncle Ravi Subramanya of making money through vaccines and demanded that an FIR be registered against them and they be removed as MP and MLA respectively.

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera alleged that according to an audio tape leaked through social media, Subramanya purportedly took a bribe of Rs 700 per vaccine at a private hospital in Karnataka.

Surya is seen promoting the hospital in ads, he alleged.

“The membership of Tejasvi Surya from the parliament should be ended immediately, we owe the people of Karnataka. The membership of Ravi Subramanya, third-time MLA from Basavanagudi, should be ended right now,” he told reporters.

Khera alleged that a supervisor of a private hospital clearly tells a public member that per vaccination he will have to pay Rs 900 as Rs 700 of this have to be given to Ravi Subramanya, a BJP MLA from Basavanagudi in Karnataka, who is Surya’s uncle.

“These are shocking, startling revelations. It is like getting caught red handed. This is a private hospital. Earlier this week, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, who is also the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, had advertised his own picture along with this hospital, exhorting people to get vaccinated from this hospital,” he alleged.

“We want to ask Mr Prime Minister, this Tejasvi Surya is his blue-eyed boy. We demand answers, how on earth were vaccines being diverted from government hospitals to a private hospital,” he asked.

“There should be an FIR lodged against Surya and Subramanya, Mr Prime Minister,” the Congress leader said.

Citing the case of cash for questions in which members were expelled from Parliament, he said this is a case of cash for vaccines.

“Tejasvi Surya’s Parliament membership should be ended with immediately,” he demanded, adding, “If you want to save the lives of people of Karnataka, this is hardly any sacrifice for you Mr Prime Minister. This is the least you can do.”

May 31, 2021 by Nasheman

BENGALURU: The Ramamurthy Nagar police, who are interrogating the suspects accused of sexually abusing and torturing a 24-year-old woman in the city recently, have unearthed that the victim had to repay a sum of Rs 5 lakh which she owed them, but was avoiding them whenever they sought repayment.

Meanwhile, the police will produce the victim before the magistrate on Monday to record her statement under Section 164 of CrPC, while all the accused will be sent to judicial custody, another officer added. The investigation team has already video-recorded the victim’s statement on Saturday.

Four days ago, a gang of seven Bangaladeshis, including two women, were arrested by the city police after video footage of the act emerged on social media in Assam, with that state’s police tweeting an alert across the North-East. A day later, however, two of the accused were shot at by Bengaluru police, after they allegedly tried to attack them in a bid of escape.

Petrol price up by 29 paise per litre; diesel by 26 paise a litre

May 31, 2021 by Nasheman

NEW DELHI: Diesel price on Monday went past the Rs 98-a-litre mark in a few places of Rajasthan as a relentless increase in fuel prices took rates to record-high levels.

Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan saw petrol price climb to Rs 105.24 a litre and diesel to Rs 98.08 per litre.

Fuel prices differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes such as VAT and freight charges.

Rajasthan levies the highest value-added tax (VAT) on petrol in the country, followed by Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. In Delhi, petrol comes for Rs 94.23 per litre and diesel is priced at Rs 85.15 a litre.

The price of petrol, which had already crossed the Rs 100-mark in several cities in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, breached the psychological barrier in Mumbai on Saturday.

Petrol now costs Rs 100.47 a litre in Mumbai and diesel comes for Rs 92.45 per litre. The increase in Monday is the 16th increase in prices since May 4, when state-owned oil firms ended an 18-day hiatus in rate revision they observed during assembly elections in states like West Bengal.

In 16 increases, petrol price has risen by Rs 3.83 per litre and diesel by Rs 4.42. Oil companies revise rates of petrol and diesel daily based on the average price of benchmark fuel in the international market in the preceding 15-days, and foreign exchange rates.

Mizoram facing financial crisis due to COVID-19 and other problems: CM Zoramthanga

May 29, 2021 by Nasheman

AIZAWL: Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga on Friday said the state is reeling under a financial crisis due to COVID-19 coupled with multiple problems, including the outbreak of the African Swine Fever (ASF).

He said that a severe drop in the quantum of revenue collection at the Centre due to the outbreak of COVID-19 has led to a significant reduction in the state’s share of taxes, which inevitably let the state suffered a financial crunch.

“I want you to be aware of the financial crisis faced by the state government. Though we have passed annual budget amounting to crores of rupees, the outbreak of COVID-19 has greatly reduced the quantum of revenue collection at the Central government, which in turn greatly affected our state’s share of taxes,” the chief minister said.

He said that the state’s share of taxes has dropped by Rs 1,500 crore during the fiscal 2020-2021.

The state’s financial crunch was aggravated by repayment of state’s liabilities amounting to Rs 150 crore and meeting the states matching share to the World Bank, he said.

He regretted that new development projects could not be executed from the state’s own source.

However, development projects funded by the Centre are being carried out smoothly as such funds could not be diverted to other purposes, he said.

The chief minister also said that the state has also experienced multiples crises amid COVID-19 spread.

He said that the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF), a massive wildfire in different parts of the state, and influx of people from Myanmar due to military coup have also inconvenienced the state.

Zoramthanga thanked the people for their collective efforts against COVID-19.

He lauded the medics, churches, NGOs, volunteers of village and local task forces and private doctors, nurses and medical experts, who volunteered to fight COVID-19, for extending invaluable help to the state government in its efforts to curtail the pandemic.
