India reports 1.68 lakh new Covid infections, active cases highest in 208 days

NEW DELHI: India logged 1,68,063 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,58,75,790 which includes 4,461 cases of the Omicron variant, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.

The active cases rose to 8,21,446, the highest in 208 days, while the death toll climbed to 4,84,213 with 277 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.

Of the total 4,461 cases of the Omicron variant, 1,711 people have recovered or migrated so far.

Maharashtra recorded the maximum number of 1,247 cases followed by Rajasthan at 645, Delhi 546, Karnataka 479 and Kerala 350.

The active cases comprise 2.29 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate decreased to 96.36 per cent, the ministry said.

An increase of 97,827 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16.

It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.

Six including two women killed, several injured after lorry fell on two cars & bike in Kumbalgoud

Six people including two women were killed after a lorry fell on the two cars and a bike in Kumbalgod on the busy Mysuru-Bengaluru highway, on Monday evening.

Rash driving by the lorry driver is said to be the reason for the mishap.

The deceased have been identified as Nikita Rani, Veenamma,Indra Kumar, Keerthi Kumar,Jitin B George,and TJ Jayaprakash.

While Nikita Rani,Veenamma,Indra Kumar,and Keerthi Kumar,were travelling in a car, Jayaprakash, an employee of an automobile company was in the other car.George,who hails from Kerala, was going on his bike.

Senior officers,with Kumbalgoud police inspector rushed to spot and after inspecting the spot and after collecting stock of the situation he said,The incident occurred at around 6.15 pm, when a lorry laden with tons of crushed stones allegedly hit a divider.

As the driver lost control, the lorry fell on the two cars and a bike moving next to it. Due to the impact, four sitting in a car and the biker were killed on the spot,while Jayaprakash,who was in the other car, died on the way to a hospital.Police said 3-4 others have sustained injuries in the incident.

Due to the accident, the traffic on the busy road came to a standstill for a few kilometeres. The Kumbalgod police rushed to the spot while a crane was pressed into service to remove vehicles involved in the accident from the road. A case is registered in Kumbalgod police station in connection with the incident.

MoU signed with GAIL Gas setting up Bio-Gas Plant in City Armed Reserve (CAR) South Campus situated in Audugodi.

An MoU was signed with GAIL Gas for CSR grant of Rs.39 lakhs for development of solid waste management facility at City Armed Reserve – South campus at Audugodi.

Commissioner of Police,Kamal Pant,with Addl CPs,Dr Subramanyeswara Rao,Sandeep Patil,DCP,Admin,Smt Nisha James and Hasiru Dala (Implementing Agency) have signed Tripartite CSR Agreement for setting up ( 01-TPD-CL Box) Bio-Gas Plant in City Armed Reserve (CAR) South Campus situated in Adugodi.

The MoU signed as part of GAIL Gas CSR initiative.

The agreement was signed before Commissioner of Police,Kamal Pant,and the Chief General Manager (CGD) and Officer-in-Charge,GAIL Gas Limited Bengaluru , Vivek Wathodkar.

The CSR Project costing Rs.39.20 Lakhs will be executed through renowned Bangalore based, Hasiru Dala,a non-profit,social impact organisation.

This project to create environmental protection and use of biodegradable waste for producing Bio Gas and manure will be a game changer in reducing the piles of waste and to achieve the bigger objective to make the Bengaluru Police facility at Audugodi as Zero Waste Campus.

By installation of the ITPD CL Box Bio Gas Plant for producing bio gas from the waste generated by the Police quarters and also from other sources,which will be used for cooking of food for cannine squad and remaining gas will be used through pipe to the Kalyana Mantapa (Community hall) kitchen and also to the common facility of the Bengaluru Police in the said Campus says a release.

ST Somashekar Son Blackmailing case: Accused Rahul Bhat mobile sent for Forensic Lab

Since Yesterday the Cops grilling Rahul Bhat to ascertain possible involvement of others in the blackmail racket while the mobile phone seized from him has been sent to FSL for technical analysis.

Senior officer told media persons,Rahul had used the SIM of UK to make ransom calls and sending video clips.

The mobile phones contain many clips and many of them has been deleted.We are now trying to retrieve the deleted data and also trying to find the list of people with whom Bhat had contacts .

Meanwhile the SIM Card used by Rahul belonging to daughter of a MLA from north Karnataka.She was studying in UK and returned to city recently .

We are awaiting for the report based on which she will be questioned.The investigations continued to trace the raw footage of the video and the woman present in the video.

Police suspect Rahul had used a city based model in the video and efforts are on to track her down.

Initial probe revealed that Rahul had planned for nearly two months to prepare the video before contacting the PA of the ministers and his son for ransom.

He accessed the SIM card of the UK from a friend who earlier borrowed the SIM from the daughter of the minister he added.

Home Minister,Araga Jnanendra said the CCB officials are investigating the case in all angles and fair probe is on no one will be spared and there is no pressure for any officers a fair probe will be done in the case and those involved in the racket will be dealt with stringent action he added.

Eleven member gang including three juveniles arrested by Konanakunte police for murder of 19-year-old youth for Rs.1200

The South Division police of Konanakunte police have arrested a gang of nine who bludgeoned a 19 year old youth to death over a trivial row over Rs.1200 on Tuesday.

The accused has been identified as,Kiran@Jackson,19,Pavan@Solle,19,Karthik, S,19,Manikanta@Mani,19,Pavan Kumar@Puttenahalli Pavan@Chitte,20,Abhishek,Anil Kumar@Anie,20,Munesh Kumar,19, Shashank T,18 and others.

Senior officer told reporters,a youth was hacked to death near Government school in Konanakunte police station limits about more than 10 member armed gang for a trivial row as the accused and victim were playing a game in mobile as FREE FIRE for which he took loan of Rs.1500 and returned only Rs.300 in return.

To recover the accused Kiran hatched a plan to kill his friend and roped in with his associates and called the deceased Mehaboob and Manjunath near Govt school to take back the money when the victim said he will not return a heated argument turned into violent and stabbed the youth brutally and his friend with sharp weapons and escaped which resulted in one person death.

After registering a case of murder the Konanakunte police inspector Nanjegowda and his team swung into action and with the technical inputs arrested 11 member gang and three juveniles.

During investigation the accused confessed the crime and revealed that the friend of the deceased had lent Rs.1500 to one of the accused to buy a mobile app.The accused though repaid rs 300 but refused to return the rest of the money led to fight.

In the melee the accused attacked mahboob , who was seen with opposite gang.

The profusely bleeding Mahboob was rushed to Victoria hospital where he succumbed to his injuries later.

The Konanakunte police arrested nine of the accused and detained three Juvenile who were part of the gang which killed Mahboob.

The police are now on the lookout for two more accused who are on the run.The three juveniles will be produced before the juvenile board for further action and efforts are on to track the absconding accused.

Finally Bengaluru Police Commissioner,Kamal Pant has appreciated Addl CP West,Sandeep Patil,DCP,South,Harish Pandey,ACP,TM Shivakumar,PI,Nanjegowda,PSIs,as,Vinay KL, Smt.Sowmya M S,Arun Kumar and crime staff has been appreciated for the commendable and exemplary work done by them in nabbing the murder accused and recovered the vehicles and weapons used to commit offence by acting swiftly a suitable reward will be given to the whole team for their excellent investigation he added.

Six peddlers including Foreign National arrested by South Division police,220 Kilos Marijuana,103 grams of Cocaine,seized

A big crackdown on drug peddlers by South Division police of, Kempegowda Nagar police, Siddapura police,and Jayanagar police have nabbed Six Peddlers and recovered huge quantity of Narcotics drugs substances from them.

The Kempegowda Nagar police inspector Rakshit and his team received a tip off that a group of four persons are supplying marijuana drugs to gangsters and rowdies in the city and are waiting near deer park with substances.

Acting on tip-off inspector Rakshith and his crime team swung into action and rushed to spot the team surrounded the area and kept a close watch on them and after getting confirmation the team apprehended all the four and took them to station with the goods vehicle with this they have
busted inter state drug racket arrested four persons.

The accused has been identified as,Pothaiah,19, Pallem Vara Prasad,19,Vanthala Ramesh,19, Kondajji Prasad,19 from east Godhavari were arrested red handed while they were waiting near deer park in Dhobi Ghat to deliver the consignment in a goods vehicle.

The police seized 200 kilos of Marijuana stuffed in sacks concealed under the Vegetables and green sacks in a goods vehicle.

Investigation revealed that the accused source the drugs from Andhra Pradesh and with the help of few gangsters smuggle the drugs into city and supply it to rowdies including Kulla Rizwan,Star Naveen,Star Rahul,Ullal Karthik and Ullal Hamid.

In another incident,the Siddapura police inspector,Raju A and his team acting on tip off about the foreign national is waiting to deliver the consignment of cocaine to his clients.

Inspector Raju and his team rushed near Lalbagh Kalyani and after keeping a close watch on the foreign national and after getting confirmation the team approached him and when checked his belongings the team found Cocaine in his possession.

The team took him to station and arrested a ivoirienne national and seized 103 grams of cocaine from him .

The accused was caught red handed while waiting near lalbagh Kalyani for his customers.

During investigation the accused confessed the crime and it is revealed that the accused zago Constant, 37 was arrested earlier by Hennur and Sanjay Nagar police in similar offence.After coming out on bail he continue to peddle drugs.

The Jayanagar police Inspector,Manjunath and his crime staff received a credible information that a person is waiting to deliver the consignment to his clients near Sakkambari Metro station parking in a ground and is waiting near old buses parked.

Acting on the information inspector Manjunath and his team rushed to spot and surrounded the place and after confirmation the team approached the person and asked him for whom he is waiting at the same time the team found two plastic bags hided near buses the team checked and found Marijuana drugs and took him to police station for questioning.

The accused confessed the crime and during investigation the accused was identified as,Sanaullah and a detailed investigation by the team the accused spilled the beans that he is a associate of gangsters and rowdies,and is working for them the team seized 20 kgs of Marijuana which he has sourced from Andhra Pradesh.

Investigation revealed that the accused source the drugs from Andhra Pradesh and with the help of few gangsters smuggle the drugs into city and supply it to rowdies including Kulla Rizwan,Star Naveen,Star Rahul,Ullal Karthik and Ullal Hamid.

All the six accused has been arrested under NDPS Act and further investigation is on.

Finally Bengaluru Police Commissioner,Kamal Pant has appreciated Addl CP West,Sandeep Patil,DCP,South,Harish PandeyACP,KV Srinivas, PIS,as,Rakshith,U R Manjunath,Raju A,PSIs,as,Naveen Kumar,Padmanabh C,and crime staff as, Anti-Narcotics special squad as,Lakshmanachar,Pavan, Yashwanth,Tannahji Morre,Shivakumar S, Chandrashekhar Nayak, Parameshwar Mabrukar,Anand and others has been appreciated for the exemplary and excellent investigation done by them in nabbing the notorious Drug peddlers who were working for gangsters and rowdies in the city as there is Zero tolerance on drug peddlers and consumers in the city a special reward will be given to whole team who has recovered huge quantity of drugs he added.

Min.ST Somashekar Son Nishanth’s Blackmailing case, Bengaluru Famous Astrologers son arrested by CCB

The cyber crime police of CCB on Saturday arrested 22 year old son of a city based astrologer for allegedly blackmailing son of minister of cooperation with obscene video clip.

Rahul Bhat is son of well known astrologer chandrashekhar Swamiji residing in RT Nagar.

Nishanth in his complaint stated that bhat had contacted the PA of his father blackmailed with the fake video and threatened to upload it on social media

There was a deep rooted conspiracy to scuttle my political growth and tarnish the image of my father,Nishanth said in his complaint.

The police are now trying to ascertain the conspiracy behind and possible involvement of others.

Senior officer said,Minister,Somashekar’s son,Nishanth, had filed a complaint with the cyber police on December 27 stating that his father’s personal secretary, Bhanu Prakash, received extortion calls from unknown persons.

The callers demanded ransom and threatened to release an alleged sex video of Nishanth if their demand was not met.

Based on a complaint filed by Nishanth somashekhar, the cyber crime police track down the person identified as Rahul Bhat based on the mobile number he used to blackmail and taken him into custody for five days on Saturday.

Meanwhile another accused involved in this blackmailing has been arrested in Goa says senior officer and investigation is on.

Playing PUBG on railway track, siblings run over by train in Alwar

Jaipur: Two brothers who were engrossed in playing popular online game PUBG on their mobile phones while sitting on a railway track were run over by a train in Rajasthan’s Alwar district on Saturday, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Lokesh Meena (22) and his younger brother Rahul (19). They were preparing for competitive exams, the police said.

“Lokesh Meena and Rahul were sitting on the railway track near Roopbaas town and were playing PUBG when they were run over by a train. They were so engrossed in the game that they did not see the train coming,” said Manohar Lal, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Sadar police station.

They were staying with their elder sister in Roopbaas. Their father lives in a village near Tehla in Alwar, he said.

The bodies were handed over to the family of the deceased after a post-mortem examination, the police said.

Ahmedabad: Three persons, including two brothers, were arrested under the Epidemic Diseases Act after a large number of people turned up for the birthday party of their pet dog in violation of the pandemic guidelines here in Gujarat, police said on Saturday.

Chirag Patel and his brother Urvish Patel, both residents of Krishnagar in Ahmedabad city, had thrown a big party on the birthday of their pet dog, Abby, an Indian Spitz, along with their friend, Divyesh Mehariya, a police official said.

Besides the family members of the trio, their friends also joined the celebration organised on a plot Friday night in large numbers. COVID-19 guidelines related to social distancing and wearing face masks were violated at this function, he said.

A popular folk singer performed at the event, and a cake was also cut, the official added.

An FIR was registered at Nikol police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Epidemic Diseases Act, following which Chirag Patel, Urvish Patel and Divyesh Mehariya were arrested.

Gujarat reported 5,396 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, out of which 2,281 cases were reported from Ahmedabad city alone. The city has 8,700 active cases, as per the health department.

To contain the transmission, the Gujarat government on Friday brought in additional curbs and extended the night curfew timings in cities.

As per the new guidelines, no more than 400 persons are allowed in an open space for political, social or religious functions.

8,906 COVID-19 cases, four deaths recorded in Karnataka

Bengaluru: Karnataka on Saturday reported 8,906 fresh COVID-19 cases and four deaths, taking the cumulative infections and fatalities to 30,39,958 and 38,366 respectively, the health department said.

In its bulletin, the health department said 508 people were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 29,63,056. The active cases in the state stood at 38,507.

The spike in cases was driven by Bengaluru Urban which contributed 7,113 infections and three deaths. Other districts too had fresh cases, including 295 in Dakshina Kannada, 203 in Mysuru, 186 in Udupi, 183 in Mandya and 139 in Hassan and 111 in Bengaluru Rural.

Kalaburagi recorded one death. There were zero fatalities in 29 districts whereas Haveri and Yadgir reported zero infections and zero fatality.

The positivity rate for the day was 5.42 per cent and the case fatality rate was 0.04 per cent.

A total of 1,64,261 samples were tested in the state, including 1,35,291 RT-PCR tests on Saturday, taking the cumulative number of specimens examined so far to 5.75 crore.

There were 1,65,880 inoculations done taking the total vaccinations so far to 8.95 crore, the department said.
