Seperate Crime Monitoring cell at every division to track major crimes,Towing should be reintroduced for smooth flow of traffic says New Bengaluru City Police Commissioner C H Pratap Reddy

May 20, 2022 by Nasheman

Parmesh S Jain

In an effort to improve the image of the city police, the city police strive to be more responsive and credible to achieve best policing practice and while dealing with the law and order situation, said newly assumed 37th city police commissioner,CH Pratap Reddy on Tuesday.

Interacting with the media minutes after taking charge,Mr.Reddy said that Bengaluru city name is recognised globally along with law and order issue and crime situation is also becoming viral.

The City Police should strive to maintain the name and carry forward the best policing practices,he said, adding that the heads of all divisions have already put their ideas together to realize the responsive and credible policing idea.

Reacting to visions he has,Mr,Reddy, said they contain anti-social activities with reference to rowdyism, illegal foreign stays, gambling and narcotics, and women safety, traffic management,  investigations of cases with scientific tempers are his priorities.

There is no consideration for any negligence on part of the police officials.Any irresponsible work at the Division and station level will be dealt with severely,he warned.

Mr.Reddy thanked the government for considering him for the post and his predecessor, stating that all the works initiated by outgoing Commissioner,Kamal Pant will be carried forward with a touch of improved efficiency  .

Outgoing commissioner,Kamal Pant soon after handing over the baton to Mr.Reddy, thanked all officials for their cooperation and good work.

I greatly thank the citizens of Bengaluru for their support and heartfelt thanks to my colleagues for their unflinching cooperation in maintaining peace and law and order .

I had a great stint as commissioner of Police and wishing the best for Mr.Reddy for his new tenure  Mr.Pant tweeted his last message on the city police commissioner handle before exiting .

Q&A:

Q.As you mention about responsive and credible policing, what are the plans you have to carry forward the idea ?

To begin with every division will have a crime monitoring unit to focus on important cases under a senior police officer which needs constant monitoring from racking the cases to take it to its logical end to prosecution.

There are many instances where the crime will go out of focus due to various reasons and do not have a proper follow up system.

All such cases are being monitored and taken to its logical conclusion, which includes keeping a track on the accused while they were in prison through prison monitoring system.

Q.Since the city is back on its track in terms of traffic after covid restrictions, what are the ideas you have on traffic management?

Since the last two years the traffic due to covid enforcement people were working from home and hence the traffic was under control.

Since the city is now returning to normalcy and coming back to old bengaluru, traffic congestions are being monitored at the junction level to ensure free flow of traffic .

There are many projects on cards to reduce traffic density and improve infrastructure. This includes installing more devices and equipping the traffic police with enforcement cameras.

For eg.Random checking across the city of vehicles for traffic violations has been stopped and with the help of automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras and red light violation detection enforcement cameras and installation of CCTV cameras across the city under central government scheme.

This is a big step towards smart police management where everyone from constable to commissioner works to ensure law and order and traffic management at its best.

Q. What is the status of the towing vehicles in the city ?.

The towing vehicles are part of the traffic management system and their services are needed for a smooth flow of traffic.

The tigers will be introduced again but after the revised guidelines and with the permission of the authorities concerned.

Q.There is a demand for extension of nightlife in the city. What is your take on this ?

My predecessor and the officials have taken the decision on this and the status quo will be maintained on this .

Q.There are allegations of rampant corruption among the CCB officials and the local police in terms of allowing certain illegal activities like allowing gambling, which was in the news recently. How are you going to tackle this issue?

As I said, any dereliction of duty and negligence on part of the police officials will be strictly dealt with seriously.About the allegation of CCB officials, the power broker in this case has already been arrested and investigations are on to ascertain the role of any officials which will be handled accordingly .

Q.Bengaluru city has the highest number of cyber crimes registered. How are you going to handle a limited number of staff to investigate ?.

With a highest number of cases registered, the city is also known for its best practice while handling cyber crime cases.

The introduction of the CIR (cybercrime incident report ) system is first ever in bengaluru which was followed by other metro cities.

This is working very well in handling financial frauds and stopping illegal online payments within golder hour. This CIR system will be analyzed  and improved further for better services .

We want Priyanka Gandhi to concentrate on South too: D K Shivakumar

May 20, 2022 by Nasheman

Bengaluru: Ahead of Karnataka Assembly elections next year, State Congress President D K Shivakumar on Thursday said the party wants its national General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to “concentrate” on the South where elections are coming up.

This comes amid speculation in a section of the Karnataka Congress leaders, including Shivakumar, that it wants her to contest the June 10 Rajya Sabha polls from Karnataka.

“…she had actively campaigned during the recent elections (to five States), we are requesting her to do the same during the next elections. I have not put it (across). We want (her) to concentrate on the South also,” Shivakumar said in response to a question on reports that he has insisted on Priyanka Gandhi to contest the Rajya Sabha polls from Karnataka.

Responding to a query on possible candidates for Rajya Sabha polls, the KPCC chief said, “We have a tradition in our party for Rajya Sabha polls, we will abide by what they (central leadership) say…even now keeping the national interest in mind, they will decide.”

The elections to four seats of Rajya Sabha is necessitated as the term of office of members – Nirmala Sitharaman (Union Finance Minister) and K C Ramamurthy of BJP, and Jairam Ramesh and late Oscar Fernandes of Congress is due to expire on June 30.

Regarding candidates for polls to seven Legislative Council seats to be elected by MLAs scheduled for June 3, Shivakumar said he would hold a discussion with Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah in this regard.

“We have discussed one round, we will discuss another round, after that we will take a call. There are only two seats for us, our options are very limited, and many people are seeking (tickets). Whatever is in the interest of the party, the high command will decide,” he said.

The election to Legislative Council is necessitated as the term of office of seven members is going to expire on June 14.

In this election, each MLC candidate would require a minimum of 29 votes to win.
