IMA Scam: Karnataka HC issues notice to State govt, authority over sale of Mansoor Khan’s apartment

April 11, 2022 by Nasheman

Bengaluru: The Karnataka HC while hearing the appeal filed by IMA Scam’s prime accused Mansoor Khan against the Special Court’s order attaching his apartment in Bannerghatta in the city, has issued notice to the authorities.

Khan had filed a petition questioning a special court’s order of confirming the attachment of one of his apartments for its sale.

A division bench comprising Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice S. Vishwajith Shetty, before which the appeal came up for hearing, ordered the issue of notice to the State government and the Competent Authority (CA) appointed for the IMA scam case under the Karnataka Protection of Interest of Depositors in Financial Establishments (KPIFFE) Act, 2004.

An apartment situated on Bannerghatta Road Layout in Tilaknagar, Bengaluru, which was purchased by Khan in 2014, was among several other immovable properties and the bank accounts, the attachment of which was confirmed by the special court set up for KPIDFE cases in its order passed on March 7, 2022.

Challenging the notifications issued by the State government attaching the properties, it has been contended in the appeal that property in Tilaknagar was purchased by Khan out of his personal income and the profits accrued from his business ventures in accordance with the law, and the CA had failed to show that the property was purchased from the “deposits” of the general public.

April 11, 2022 by Nasheman

New Delhi: All India Mahila Congress acting president Netta D’Souza on Sunday fired questions on price rise at Union Minister Smriti Irani when the two came face-to-face on IndiGo’s Delhi-Guwahati flight, with the minister objecting to being “accosted”.

IndiGo said the incident is currently under investigation.

D’Souza on Sunday posted a short video of the incident on Twitter where she asks Women and Child Development Minister Irani about the rising prices of cooking gas and petrol.

The minister – who was sitting in the first row of the plane – is heard asking D’Souza to not block the way so that people behind her can de-board.

Irani, while walking on the aerobridge towards the terminal, is heard telling the Congress leader that 80 crore people in India are getting free food grains for the last 27 months.

It will be lovely if I am not accosted, she says, to which D’Souza says “no one is being accosted”.

The Congress leader then tells Irani that she is a minister to which the latter replies, ”I am answering ma’am”, and goes on to speak about free COVID-19 vaccination.

Some parts of the conversation in the video are not audible.

IndiGo spokesperson said We are aware of the matter on flight 6E262 DEL-GAU on 10 April 2022 and it is currently under investigation. We would like to confirm no IndiGo employees were involved in this matter.

60-feet-long steel bridge stolen in Bihar

April 11, 2022 by Nasheman

Sasaram: A 60-feet-long steel bridge was dismantled and stolen by a group of men posing as government officers in Bihar’s Rohtas district, police said on Saturday.

The bridge, weighing 500 tons, was built over the Arrah canal in Amiyawar village in Nasriganj police station area in 1972, they said.

A group of men, posing as officers of the Irrigation Department, dismantled the defunct bridge with the help of gas-cutters and earthmovers over three days, police said.

By the time the locals realised what was happening and informed the police, they had fled with the scrap, said Subhash Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Nasriganj police station.

“It appears that the whole operation was executed with the help of unwitting local officials of the Irrigation Department,” he said.

A case was registered and a hunt was on to nab those behind the incident, Kumar said.

Scrap dealers in the district have been alerted about the incident, he said.

“The bridge was too old and declared dangerous some time back. A new concrete bridge was constructed adjacent to the old one, and that is currently used by the locals,” said Mantu Singh, a resident of the Amiyawar village.

Taking a dig at the government over the incident, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav said the thieves were inspired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and BJP leaders.

“If BJP and Nitish Kumar can steal the government of Bihar, then what is a bridge?” he said, apparently referring to Kumar’s JD(U) severing ties with the RJD to form a government with BJP in the state in 2017.

Karnataka govt directs CID to probe Chandru murder case

Karnataka govt directs CID to probe Chandru murder case
Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has decided to hand over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) the probe into the case relating to the murder of 22-year-old Chandru who was allegedly stabbed to death recently by some Muslim youths.

Chandru, who was accompanied by his friend Simon Raj, was stabbed to death by Shahid Pasha on April 4 afternoon.

While the police maintained that it was a case of road rage, the ruling BJP asserted that Chandru was stabbed for not knowing Urdu as stated by the Home Minister Araga Jnanendra before retracting.

“I spoke to the Director General of Police and the Bengaluru police Commissioner. I have decided to hand over the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Let an impartial probe happen by a third party and truth should come out,” Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai told reporters on Sunday.

Probably, the Commissioner will write to the Director General of Police to hand over the case to the CID, he added.

Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra who had initially said on Wednesday that the youth was stabbed to death for not knowing Urdu, later retracted it after coming in for flak from various quarters.

Bengaluru police maintained that it was a case of road rage and not any other case. The police said Chandru’s bike had collided with Shahid Pasha’s two-wheeler.

The Congress too demanded Jnanendra’s resignation for stoking communal passions with his statement and giving a twist to the case.

However, on Saturday, the ruling BJP in Karnataka accused the Bengaluru police of covering up the murder.

“Simon (Simon Raj, the victim’s friend) was at the spot when the incident took place. He has seen Chandru (the victim) being stabbed, when he said he doesn’t know Urdu. His statement is there, do you want more truth than this?” Ravikumar asked.

Speaking to reporters, he had said, “First thing is what Simon has said is true, second is there is truth in what his mother has said…there is truth in what his aunt and family are saying. If more truth is required, conduct an inquiry. The Police Commissioner has lied…The Home Minister’s earlier statement was correct.”

Congress MLA and former minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan had said Araga Jnanendra’s statement was wrong and backed the police that it was a case of road rage.

However, Bommai said, “who says what is not important. What matters is that truth must come out. I have decided to give it to the CID for fair probe.”

Talking to reporters on Sunday, Jnanendra said the case will be transferred to the CID for a detailed inquiry.

“We will make sure that the murderers get proper punishment for their crime. Carrying out such a gruesome murder for a trivial matter shows the mindset of the murderers. We want to send across a message in the society that the government is with the poor and helpless people,” he added.

Jnanendra also said that neither he as a home minister nor the police are inept.

“We are capable. We will make sure that conviction happens and law and order prevails. All the evidence concerning the case will be gathered,” he added.

Don't know why pro-Hindu organisations are doing that: K'taka Minister on Muslim businesses' boycott

Bengaluru: Karnataka Minister of Law, Parliamentary Affairs, and Legislation JC Madhu Swamy on Sunday reacted to the Sangh Parivar activists’ move to boycott Muslim businesses and added that every citizen in the country has the right to run businesses.

He also added that targeting shops on the basis of religious identities was not right.

“Anyone who does things to disturb the peace or causes problems to people is not honorable. Even the ruling party loses the respect if things like these happen under its governance,” he said.

“I am clueless about why pro-Hindu organizations are resorting to such tactics. We are all Indians here,” he said adding that the government cannot keep a watch on all the incidents happening across the incident, and incidents that are brought to its notice, will be taken care of and action will be taken against those found guilty.
