Respect the patriots,do not heed to rumours: CM Bommai appeals

Shivaji Maharaj,Kitturu Rani Chennamma and Sangolli Rayanna are great patriots. They should be respected, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said here and appealed to people not to pay heed to rumours.

Shivaji Maharaj,Kitturu Rani Chennamma and Sangolli Rayanna fought for freedom of the country,they fought for unification of the country.

Dividing the society in their name should be condemned,Bommai said.

Sending a strong message against any acts of vandalism,Bommai said,our government will not tolerate any acts of violence.It will be taken seriously and the vandals would be dealt with sternly.

Already 27 persons in Belagavi and 7 in Bengaluru have been arrested in connection with cases of vandalising the statues of Shivaji and Sangolli Rayanna.”

The Chief Minister appealed to the people not to pay heed to rumours. “Nobody should indulge in spreading false news and incite the people.

The above said incidents are being propagated in different shades to mislead the people. This is far from truth.

I have immense respect and pride for the patriots. People should not get swayed by rumours,” he said.

Kannadigas’ security is our government’s responsibility: CM Bommai

Security of Kannadigas settled in Maharashtra is our government’s responsibility,Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.

Speaking to media persons about incidents of vandalism that rocked Belagavi on Friday night he said,maintaining law and order in Karnataka is our responsibility.Similarly, It is the responsibility of the Maharashtra government to maintain law and order there.

Referring to incidents of stone pelting on buses and private vehicles and other acts of vandalism, he said,our Director General of Police will speak to his counterpart in Maharashtra about security of Kannadigas there and attack on buses and private vehicles from Karnataka.

Our Home Minister will take up the issue with his Maharashtra counterpart.Then, if necessary,I will speak to the Maharashtra Chief Minister.”

Replying to a question about Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut giving a call for Marathas to unite, Bommai said,responsible people should never incite any one under any circumstances.

Chatrapati Shivaji,Sangolli Rayanna and Kitturu Rani Chennamma fought against the British for freedom.They fought to unite the country.

We will be doing a disservice to them if we fight to divide the society. Nobody should incite the people to take law into their own hands.

Shivaji statue desecration in Bengaluru,seven suspects detained

The Sadashivanagar police in Bengaluru have stepped up investigations to identify the miscreants who defaced a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji at at Bashyam Circle near Sankey Tank under Sadashivanagar police station limits on Friday.

The police suspect the statue was blackened in response to the burning of the Kannada flag in Maharashtra.

On Friday morning,a group of people gathered in front of the statue,shouting slogans.According to eyewitness,they threw ink on the statue and escaped.

The jurisdiction police arrived at the spot soon after.The statue was cleaned and personnel were deputed in the area to ensure there were no further incidents,said a police officer.

In the wake of the tension in Belagavi, jurisdictional police have been instructed to step up vigil and provide security cover to statues in other parts of the city as well.

A case has been registered based on a complaint filed by the Karnataka Maratha Welfare Association (KMWA)and investigations are on to identify those who were involved in the act.

After inspecting the spot and based on technical evidence and with other inputs the special team have detained one person identified as Naveen who first posted about the incident on social media with this other six persons have been detained in connection with the incident as it is alleged that Naveen the person who first posted the pic of defaced has link with miscreants who blackened the Shivaji statue.

The Sadashivanagar police are questioning them in an undisclosed place and further investigation is on and teams are on job to nab the miscreants and such act will not be tolerated across city commissioner of police,Kamal Pant warns miscreants who are disturbing peace and harmony in the city and ask the police personnel to be vigil and deploy additional police personnel near the statues in the city he added.

Yoga instructor arrested for Murder of his live-in-partner over financial row

The Yelahanka police on Friday arrested a 27-year-old yoga instructor who killed his live-in partner over a financial row and tried to make it look like an accidental death .

However, based on a Post mortem report, the police grew suspicious and summoned the accused for questioning.A detailed questioning led him to confess to the crime following which he was arrested and the murder weapon was seized for further investigations.

Senior officer told reporters, the deceased Ganga, a 32-year-old nurse at a private hospital in the city and native of Udupi had joined the yoga classes conducted by Sham,a certified yoga instructor and native of Dandeli.

Soon the duo became close,got into a relationship and started living together.Ganga quit her job to start yoga classes and Sham had helped her financially by paying Rs.1 lakh to set up the business.

The duo even planned to marry in February this year and even Sham had rented out a bigger flat at Yelahanka new town to move in after the marriage .

On Wednesday the couple had a fight over the money and in the melee sham picked up the metal show piece and hit Ganga on her head.

Ganga collapsed and fell unconscious following which Sham strangled her to ensure she was dead and later took her to the hospital to cook up a story that she had an accidental fall .

The Yelahanka police have booked Sham on the charges of murder and are investigating further to ascertain the reason behind the murder.

303 new COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths in Karnataka

Bengaluru:Karnataka has reported 303 fresh cases of coronavirus and 2 deaths, taking the total number of infections to 30,01,554 and toll to 38,279, the health department said on Thursday.

The day also saw 322 discharges, taking the total number of recoveries in the state so far to 29,56,088.

Out of 303 new cases reported on Thursday, 197 were from Bengaluru Urban, as the city saw 135 discharges and 2 deaths.

Total number of active cases in the state is at 7,158.

While the positivity rate for the day stood at 0.23 per cent, case fatality rate (CFR) was at 0.66 per cent.

Both deaths reported on Thursday are from Bengaluru Urban.

Among the districts where the new cases were reported, Bengaluru Urban accounted for 197, Mysuru 21, Dakshina Kannada 15, Kodagu 13, followed by others.

Bengaluru Urban district tops the list of positive cases, with a total of 12,59,585, followed by Mysuru 1,80,104 and Tumakuru 1,21,228.

Cumulatively a total of 5.49 crore samples have been tested in the state so far, out of which 1,29,411 were tested on Thursday alone.

Karnataka govt schools have 53,700 vacancies for teachers and staff: Minister B C Nagesh

Belagavi: Karnataka government schools have a vacancy of 53,700 teachers and staff including primary and secondary schools, Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister B C Nagesh said on Thursday.

In a written reply to a question raised by Bailahongal MLA Kaujalgi Mahantesh Shivanand, Nagesh said there are 41,869 posts vacant in primary schools, 8,292 in secondary schools and 3,292 in the pre-university colleges.

Shivanand wanted to know when and how the new National Education Policy will be implemented in the state.

The NEP has been introduced by the Centre to bring reform in the education sector, mainly aimed at making it more practical.

The Minister said it has started the process of hiring 18,000 and 5,078 guest teachers in primary schools and secondary schools respectively.

Nagesh said the NEP has been implemented following the recommendation of former Chief Secretary S V Ranganath-led 15-member task force.

He also told the House that the government is introducing the NEP in stages.

Clean Street 1OK Run to commemorate Vijay Diwas

The Shivajinagar SWM (Solid Waste Management) Team has won the trophy for the cleanliness of all streets in ‘CleanStreet 10k run’ held in association with BBMP in the memory of Vijay Diwas today.

A certification for ensuring clean street with no black (garbage) spot also has been given to the team.

BBMP, in association with The Ugly Indian, held this activity with the title ‘clean street’ in commemoration of Vijaya Diwas.

The 10K run was began from east gate of vidhana soudha and ended at same place after covering Rajbhavan-National Military memorial- Infantry road- Cubbon road- Manipal centre- Dickenson road- Army public school- Chinnaswamy stadium.All the streets were clean during the run.

More than 50 BBMP Marshalls and citizens took part in the run and made it successful. This run was part of the Clean Street Runners initiative by the city’s road running community, with support from The Ugly Indians and BBMP.

This program is intended to inspect and rate 100kms of the city streets in ten 10K runs in upcoming months.

Assistant Executive Engineer,Mohammed Javed, JHIs,Marshalls and citizens were participated in the run.

Cash reward for Gallantry/Non-Gallantry awardee military personnel raised by state govt: CM Bommai

The state government has issued orders to raise the cash reward being given for gallantry and non-gallantry awardee military personnel,Chief Minister,Basavaraj Bommai announced here on Thursday.

The Chief Minister who paid tributes at the War Memorial in Maratha Light Infantry Regiment Training Center as part of the Swarna Vijay Divas celebrations to mark the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Indian victory in 1971 war against Pakistan said,he was proud to pay his respects for the martyrs who laid down their lives in defending the country.

Announcing the state government’s decision he said,the reward for Param Vir Chakra awardees has been raised from the present Rs.25 lakh to Rs1.5 Cr, similarly for Mahavir Chakra from Rs.12 lakh to Rs.1cr, Ashok Chakra from Rs.25 lakh to Rs.1.5cr,Keerthi Chakra from Rs.12 lakh to Rs.1cr, Veera Chakra from Rs.8 lakh to Rs.50 lakh, Shaurya Chakra from Rs.8 lakh to Rs.50 lakh, Sena/Nauka/Vayu Sena Medal from Rs.2 lakh to Rs.15 lakh and Mention in Dispatches from Rs.2 lakh to Rs.15 lakh.

The reward has been raised by almost five times. Thus,their longtime demand has been fulfilled. “We take pride in honoring our armed forces,” Bommai said.

Apart from defending the country from external aggression, the defense forces are playing an important role in internal security too.

They have contributed immensely for the technological advancement of the country as well,he said.

Praising the valor of the Indian military, especially in 1971 war against Pakistan he said,it exemplified the power,tact,valor and coordination of our armed forces.

In the 13 day war 3863 were martyred and over 9000 injured.India scored a resounding victory as over 90,000 Pakistani troops surrendered. It was a great example of battle management.”

Referring to the importance of technology in defense forces he said, technology is playing a bigger role in the military worldwide.

India too is second to none in this aspect.Our Prime Minister has empowered India in defense technology.”

“I am proud to be participating in this Vijay Diwas celebrations. Bangladesh is celebrating its Independence Day because of the helping hand extended by Indian military forces,he said.

Tributes were also paid on the occasion for Chief of Defence Staff Gen.Bipin Rawat and others who lost their lives in the recent helicopter crash. Home Minister,Araga Jnanendra,Major General J V Prasad and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

Action to provide steady market and price for weavers’ products: CM Bommai

State government would take all the necessary measures to provide steady market and price for weavers’ products,Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said in his address at a meeting to discuss various problems being faced by the weavers.

Responding to the charter of demands of the weavers,Bommai said,various government departments would be asked to procure their need for dress materials and sarees from the weavers in accordance with the capacity of the weavers.

Specific quantum would be fixed for this. Marketing facilities on digital platforms too would be provided for handloom products through Handloom Development Corporation.

Other decisions taken at the meeting

*A positive response soon on subsidy for professional weavers on the lines of Tribal Sub Plan.

*The Chief Minister also said that the state government is mulling to impose a small cess on business units to provide various welfare schemes for weavers on the lines of Construction Workers Welfare Board.

*Bommai instruced the Revenue department officials to take action on converting unauthorised habitations into Revenue villages or colonies.

*The Chief Minister instructed the Pollution Control Board officials to take action to avoid harassment of weavers.

*The Chief Minister agreed to the demand of providing scholarship for students from weavers familiess, medical facilities for weavers and payment of a solatium of Rs.5 lakh for families of those weaver who committed suicide during the Covid lockdown.

Ministers,as,Govind Karjol,Shivaram Hebbar, Shankar Patil Munenakoppa and senior officials apart from the leaders of weavers community participated in the meeting.

2A reservation for Panchamasali community: Action after getting report from the Commission: CM Bommai

Action would be initiated on the issue of providing category 2A reservation for the Panchamasali community after the Backward Classes Commission submits its report, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.

Speaking to media persons he said, “I have discussed bestowing category 2A Backward Classes reservation for the Panchamasali community with Kudalasangama Lingayat Panchamasali Jagadguru and the legislators belonging to the community.

The issue would be examined in accordance with the supreme Court verdict and Constitutional provisions.

The issue has been referred to the Backward Classes Commission. State cabinet would discuss the issue immediately on getting the report from the Commission.

The process is slightly delayed due to the recent MLC poll code of conduct he added.
