CM Bommai wants Punjab-like food processing units in central Karnataka
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday mooted the idea of creation of a mini-Punjab in central Karnataka by growing a variety of horticultural crops in the region between Tungabhadra and Krishna rivers and setting up over a 100 food processing units there.

“The seven to eight-lakh hectare land between Tungabhadra and Krishna rivers can be utilised for a variety of horticulture crops where over 100 food processing units can be set up. It will be like a mini-Punjab which will give jobs through growing natural horticulture crops,” Bommai said while sharing his thoughts on his vision for the State.

His talk was organised by the Karnataka Media Academy (KMA) on its 40th Foundation Day ceremony held through social media. Bommai released the logo of the KMA on the occasion.

The Chief Minister said Karnataka is blessed with 10 agro-climatic zones, making the State distinct from others.

The zones enable the State to grow a variety of crops, an advantage which must be utilised, he said.

“The State is also gifted with a number of rivers flowing from west to east to other States, which must be tapped and properly utilised,” he said.

Also, the Chief Minister said he is planning to bring out a policy on the utilisation of the 350-km coastline for tourism and port development.

“This week, we will take a decision on inland and hinterland development. When 60 per cent of Indonesia’s economy is growing due to its ports, we can also explore that possibility,” he said.

Further, Bommai wanted to explore the temple, coastal and heritage tourism by improving the ports and airports.

Education is also an area of priority with emphasis on technical education in high schools and improving science and maths education in rural areas, he said.

“The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) is contributed by 30 per cent population which needs to be increased. In this regard, we want SC/ST/OBC and minorities and their women to become skilled workers and take part in economic activities,” Bommai said.

Upgrading hospitals in districts, protection to the economically weaker sections and destitutes, employment-centric policy for job creation, art, culture, music and literature are also areas of focus, the Chief Minister added.

Engineering will be taught in Kannada in 4 colleges from current year: Minister Ashwath Narayan

September 30, 2021 by Nasheman

Bengaluru: Karnataka Higher Education Minister C N Ashwath Narayan on Wednesday said engineering will be taught in Kannada in four colleges from the current year.

“Teaching engineering in Kannada will begin in four colleges from the current year itself. Bheemanna Khandre Institute of Technology, Bhalki (Civil), BLDAE VP Dr P G Halakatti College of Engineering, Vijayapura (Civil), SJC Institute of Technology, Chikkaballapura (Mechanical), and Maharaja Institute of Technology, Mysuru (Mechanical) will start to teach in Kannada,” he said.

National Board of Accreditation (NBA) accredited colleges have been permitted to teach engineering in Kannada, he said, adding that upto 30 students can be admitted.

The Minister also said a consensual agreement has been reached between the government and private colleges not to hike the fees of engineering courses in private colleges.

The fees for the engineering courses in private colleges for students who secure admission this year under government quota will continue as earlier in two different slabs of Rs 65,340 and Rs 58,806, he said.

“While private colleges had pressed to increase the fee by 30 per cent, the committee headed by Prof. Karisiddappa, Vice-Chancellor of Vishweshwaraiah Technological University (VTU), had recommended a hike of 15-25 per cent. But, in view of the COVID-19 situation, representatives of private colleges were convinced not to go for a hike,” the Minister was quoted as saying by his office in a release.

This decision was taken at a meeting held with private college representatives at Vikasa Soudha here, it said.

The other important decisions taken at the meeting include fixing a maximum cap of Rs 20,000 each for fees collected in the form of ‘miscellaneous fees’ and ‘skill fees’.

Also miscellaneous and skill fees, along with admission fees should not be remitted at colleges, but at the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), it said.

This decision has been taken as per the recommendations of a committee headed by Prof Karisiddappa, the Minister said.

BJP Government is illegitimate child, Karjol is its minister: MLA M. B. Patil

September 30, 2021 by Nasheman

BJP Government is illegitimate child, Karjol is its minister: MLA M. B. Patil

BIJAPUR: Expressing anguish over the remarks of Water Resources Minister, Govind Karjol who has reportedly termed Upper Krishna Project as the ‘illegitimate child’ of the Congress, Former Water Resources Minister and MLA, M. B. Patil has responded sharply by describing the BJP government as ‘illegitimate child’ and Karjol as Minister of such a government.

Addressing media persons on Wednesday, he said that a veteran and dignified Minister such as Karjol should not have used such words and should not have stooped to that low while talking about UKP.

Reminding him that Almatti dam was launched during Congress government by Prime Minister, late, Lalbahadur Shastri, Patil said that majority of the major dams were constructed during the Congress era.

Recalling how on several occasions, Karjol has raised the issue of UKP and giving relief to farmers who are losing land, in assembly, Patil said when Karjol was in opposition, he was emotionally mentioning the issue of UKP.

“ Now that your government is in power and you are Water Resources Minister, why don’t you ensure that adequate funds are allocated for the project”, he said.

Stating that even Karjol and another Minister, Murgesh Nirani have advocated the need for giving compensation of Rs. 40 lakh per acre to the farmers losing land to the UKP project, Patil asked nearly Rs. 1 lakh crore in the coming budget for land acquisition, relief and rehabilitation.

Patil said that while the BJP had allocated Rs. 6450 crore for land acquisition and R&R, the Congress government had allocated Rs. 30,000 crore for the purpose.

Claiming that the BJP government has not ensured issuing of gazette notification for UKP-III for increasing the height of Almatti dam to 524 meters, despite the fact that BJP is ruling in State and the Centre, he challenged them to get it done.

Patil said that when he was Water Resources Minister, he did not wait for the gazette notification to be issued but started all head works related construction of canals for filling up of tanks.

“ Because of such a visionary and important decision taken, today we have completed a canal network of 1000 kilometers which has helped in filling the number of tanks in the district. This has led to recharging of thousands of borewells. The value of agricultural land has multiplied because of the water facility. Today, most of the farmers are earning higher profit from the lands, which is because of the decision taken by the Congress government”, he said.

Again reminding Karjol that it is their government and he has a greater chance to help the people of Bijapur and Bagalkot district, he asked him to just implement what he has said. “ Don’t listen to Congress, just do whatever you had promised for the people here”, he said.

Hoping that Karjol will do justice for the people here, Patil not only expressed his full support with him, but also warned him of not using absurd words against the Congress in future.

Cops arrest two men from Bengaluru 3 years after Kerala biker’s death in Jaisalmer

September 30, 2021 by Nasheman

Jaisalmer: Three years after a 34-year-old biker died mysteriously during a practice run in a desert here in Jaisalmer before the India-Baja Motorsports Rally, the police have arrested two of his friends for meticulously executing the murder in collusion with his wife.

Biker Asbak Mon’s friends Sanjay and Vishwas were arrested from Bengaluru on September 22 and brought here, police said, adding other accused persons, including Mon’s wife Sumera Parvez and some other friends, will be arrested soon.

Mon had died on August 16, 2018 during a practice run in the desert before the motorsports event, police said, adding he was initially said to have lost his way in the desert and suspected to have died of dehydration.

His wife too had not suspected any foul play and the police had closed the case after registering the incident under CrPC provisions.

The case was reopened last year after Jaisalmer Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh while examining old cases, found several discrepancies in the incident involving the biker’s death.

The discrepancies included insufficient efforts of Mom’s wife and his friends, with whom he had gone on the practice run in the desert, to search him, besides some photographs showing injury marks on the deceased body and his properly-parked motorcycle, Jaisalmer’s Additional Superintendent of Police Narendra Choudhary said.

Call records of Mon’s wife and friends and their behaviour too raised suspicions, he said, adding Mon’s family members from Kunnur in Kerala too had been crying foul in the incident following which a murder case was registered in December 2020 and two of his friends were arrested now.

The police are also on the lookout for some other friends of Mon, who had come to Jaisalmer to participate in the rally along with his wife and three other friends Sabik, Neeraj and Santosh.

September 28, 2021 by Nasheman

Sujithra S

Agriculture is an art of raising plant life from the soil for the use of mankind. The basic aim of agriculture is to raise stronger and more fruitful crops and plants and to help them grow by improving the soil and supplying water . Agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy.

The word “Agriculture” is derived from the Latin word “Ager”means land or field and culture means cultivation. Agriculture is one of the oldest and primary activities of human Civilization. Agricultural activities in the world are closely controlled by physical factors.

Indian agriculture is not an exception for this. Today India is facing two main Problems concerned with agriculture. The first is meeting the increasing demand of food and other is supplying agro products for an ever increasing Population and the second is uneven development of agriculture and changing patterns of  agricultural land use. India tried to be self-sufficient in agriculture through the five year plans.

After Independence, it took systematic effort due to its unique importance . Agriculture gets more and more attention in every five year plan and priority is given for the development of agriculture in the country. At the Beginning of 1970 and later on the revolution brought about remarkable change in the field of Agriculture. The process of agriculture development is not properly channelized . Because of uneven rainfall, unavailability of basic Infrastructure facilities and unbalanced allocation of resources. The green revolution succeeded only in the areas of irrigation. The small farmers could not get the benefit of it. This creates a large gap between small and big farmers and an imbalance is created.

Agriculture land use is an important indicator of an appropriate use or misuse of land  the study shall be entitled changing the pattern of agriculture land use in sindhudurg district, the region has not been studied in-depth by any Researcher from the agricultural point of view . Secondly, this region remains untouched by land use planning and development.

Population plays a key role in the development of the agriculture of the region, the total population of the district as per 2010 was 866825 of which 90.33% in rural and 9.47% in urban population out of this total population 48.10% are male and 51.90% are female. The highest decadal population growth of total and rural population is recorded . During the decade of 2000-2011 in Sindhudurg district. The density of population in any region indicates the pressure on land

Current Situation of agriculture.

Still today this sector is not well developed and faces lots of problems resulting in low productivity of crops . As 43% of land in India is used for farming but contributes only 18% of the nation’s GDP. The poor condition of Agriculture in the country is the point of concern for indians.

Kinds of problems do farmers face?

  • Cope with climate change, soil erosion and biodiversity loss.
  • Satisfy consumers changing tastes and expectations
  • Meet rising demand for more food of higher quality
  • Invest in farm productivity
  • Irrigation
  • Lack of mechanisation
  • Soil erosion
  • Agriculture marketing.

Dramatic changes needed in the global food system.

Groundwater contaminated with arsenic is extensively used for irrigation and finds its. The United nation calls for repurposing and reforming price-distorting and Environmentally. India’s policies block farmers’ earning in order to keep food cost low for only 23.7% and 24.7% paddy produced was sold Under MSP in kharif. Agitating farmers september 12 stole 60 bags of area from a truck in Nawada District. Farmers in Bankura and Purulia rely on groundwater. Heavily contaminated with….Buffer stock of wheat and rice in the food corporation of India godowns is double the normal.

Conclusions

Agriculture technology Investments including both “advanced and traditional technologies/management practices are a game changer in terms of yield improvements and national and global food security we now can model disaggregated/locale-specific technology impact. While biophysical potential often exists to significantly increase yields. Institutions. Governance systems. Political will. And poor rural Infrastructure remain obstacles to achieving the full technological potential.

Agriculture is the process of producing food, feed, fiber and many other desired products by the cultivation of certain plants and the raising of domesticated livestock. Agriculture provides not only food but also raw materials for manufacturing industries like textiles, sugar, vegetable, oil jute and tobacco. Agriculture is not only an important occupation of the people but also a way of life, culture and custom.
