Bengaluru DRI Unit officers arrested two Busted International gold smuggling racket seized 100 kg of Gold Potassium Cyanide (GPC)Worth Rs.32 Crore

July 14, 2021 by Nasheman

Pramesh Jain

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials of Bengaluru unit on Friday busted international gold smuggling racket and seized a consignment of 100 kg of Gold Potassium Cyanide (GPC) with a declared value of Rs.32 Crores at the Air Cargo Complex in Mumbai scheduled to be shipped for Dubai based firm.

(GPC is also known as Potassium dicyanoaurate and its primary application is in the electrolytic gold plating of metals)

Initial probe revealed that the accused linked to   Mumbai based gold firm, running the racket for the past three years and suspected to have smuggled around 2200 kilos of gold Worth over 1000 crore.

According to the officials, the GPC attempted to be exported, was falsely declared to be the result product made from the duty-free import of gold that the Mumbai based firm was permitted to bring in as an input against an Advance Authorisation (AA)license.

The Advance Authorisation Scheme is duty exemption Scheme (under available under Chapter 4 of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2015-2020),where a manufacturer exporter or merchant exporter tied to supporting manufacturer can bring in duty free import of goods as inputs which are to be physically incorporated in export product.

Probe revealed that the accused firm never manufactured any export products out of the duty-free inputs that it was permitted to import.

Instead,it diverted the imported duty-free gold to the domestic market at a profit,by melting and recasting it.

This effectively, lead to the violation of the ‘actual user condition” imposed under the AA Scheme.

To fulfill, its export obligations under the Advance Authorisation Scheme, the accused would procure the GPC from their associate firm based at Gandhinagar, claiming it to be a resultant product made of the imported gold brought in duty free under the AA.

The connected firm at Gandhinagar was otherwise in the business of Solar Power Energy Solutions,an EPC Company.

The Gandhinagar firm, had imported this GPC,in the previous week from Indonesia by claiming benefits of the 0 per cent duty concessions available under the ASEAN India Free Trade Agreement (AIFTA).

Documentary and other evidences collected so far indicate that the GPC which was exported to Dubai, was moved again to Indonesia to be supplied back to Mumbai company through its linked concern at Gandhinagar, thereby demonstrating and establishing a deliberate and illicit cyclical sequence of supply of the same goods.

The DRI officials who based on a tip off, kept a tab on the activities of the firm and analyzed the technical evidence before zeroing in on the accused.

The estimated duty evasion is Rs.338 Crores. Two individuals, who were instrumental in controlling and operating this illicit scheme were arrested on Saturday and have been sent to judicial custody till July 21 the Senior DRI Official said.

Ahead of Bakrid Gou Gyan foundation activists rescued six cattle in Bengaluru

July 13, 2021 by Nasheman

Parmesh jain

A group of activists and members of Gou Gyan foundation with the help of police rescued six cattle which are bought by many residents of DJ Halli to slaughter for upcoming Bakrid.

Based on the complaint filed by one of the volunteer, the DJ Halli police have registered a case against unknown persons and are investigating.

Nandini Matiyani, from Gau Gyan Foundation, carried a survey on cattle being tied up in front of the houses and later filed a complaint with the police on Sunday along with the video proofs taken in various localities of DJ Halli .

The police along with the volunteers on Sunday visited the localities and rescued the six cattle and later handed over to the volunteers to take them to the shelter.

The volunteers said that there are more than 25 cattle identified in the localities which are ready to be slaughters on Bakrid .

Earlier this year, the Governor of Karnataka, vide Karnataka ordinance number 1 of 2021, (the Karnataka prevention of slaughter and preservation of cattle ordinance, 2020) put a complete ban on slaughter, offering to be slaughtered, trade and transport for purpose of slaughter of all cattle (cows, bulls, calves and buffaloes) in the state of Karnataka.

This ordinance comes over and above the Karnataka Cattle Preservation Act 1964 which any way made it illegal to kill the cattle, the volunteers said in their complaint.

Every year certain criminal sections of the state exploit this festive time to break all ethical, moral and civil laws to butcher cattle mercilessly on streets creating a havoc for health, hygiene, as well as law and order in the city. The cruelty and pain inflicted upon the animals crosses all boundaries of human or civil conduct.

The fact that these goons are continuing their nefarious activities even today in broad light with complete disregard of the law puts a question mark on the law enforcing agencies of the state.

Gau gyan foundation is committed to saving innocent cows and bulls as provided for in the law of our country, and will leave no stone unturned to save the bulls and cows that have been collected at Devara jeevanahalli.

The simple ceremony held at the Glass House in the premises of Raj Bhavan

The President had announced the appointment of Gehlot as the new Governor of Karnataka on July 6.

Former Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Gehlot was appointed the new Governor of Karnataka on July 6.

He was among the 12 Union Ministers who had resigned from their posts of Council of Ministers ahead of the Union Cabinet expansion on July 7.

He was the Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha since 2019.

Hailing from Rupeta village in Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh,Gehlot used to be a part of Bharatiya Jana Sangh since his teenage days from 1962 till 1977 when the political arm of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ceased to exist.

A graduate from Vikram University in Ujjain,he then went on to become the vice president and general secretary of Janta Party from his home district and later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party to hold several key positions in the party throughout his political career spread across over five decades now.

The 73-year-old first became an MLA in 1980. After serving for three terms (1980-84, 1990-92, and 1993-96) in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly,Gehlot was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1996 to complete four consecutive terms as an MP till 2009.

His posting as the Governor of Karnataka comes at a time when political turbulence is highly speculated linked to the survival of the state government as talks of leadership change continue, with opposition parties Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) watching all developments closely in the run-up to the Assembly elections scheduled to be held in 2023.
