Bengaluru to get its 53rd Mayor on Tuesday

BJP is trying its best to rope in independents in order to increase its vote share

BENGALURU: After much delay, elections for the posts of Mayor, deputy Mayor and four standing committees — tax and finance, health, accounts and market — will be held on Tuesday. Earlier, the elections were scheduled to be held on September 27 but were postponed because the BBMP council committee took the decision to hold all the elections together — Mayor, Deputy Mayor and 12 standing committees.

But some people approached the High Court, which put the elections of some standing committees on hold. Harsha Gupta, Bengaluru Regional Commissioner, BBMP, said they cannot violate the High Court orders, so the elections will be held on October 1. Elections for the rest will be held once cases are disposed and as per the court directions.

As soon as the dates were finalised, corporators and party heads of BJP, Congress and JD(S) went into their huddle rooms to finalise the candidates. Till late on Monday evening, the party heads were holding meetings to put their best candidate forward for the Mayor’s post. The fate of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be decided by five Lok Sabha members (one Congress and four BJP), nine Rajya Sabha members (six from Congress and two from BJP), 23 MLAs (11 Congress, 11 BJP and one JDS) and 198 councillors (76 Congress, 14 JDS, 101 BJP and seven independent).

According to sources, BJP is trying hard to ensure that the independents join hands with them to increase their vote share and ensure that BJP Mayor holds the seat of power. The BJP is of the opinion that this will only be beneficial as centre, state and the city will all be governed by one party.

Meanwhile, Congress is trying its best to keep the JDS and independents happy so that it can retain its power in the city with a Congress Mayor once again. Congress is looking at this as its only ray of hope to hold power in the city, after facing a defeat in the trust vote.

The protest intensified as more people began to join after rumours spread that the driver of the towing vehicle was drunk.
The group soon swelled, blocking traffic. Some of them even started recording the video of policeman and the driver in the towing vehicle.
Many alleged towing vehicle drivers were merciless when it came to picking vehicles on roads and forcing them to pay hefty fines and bribes. You can drink and drive and there is no action against you, the motorists were heard abusing and shouting at the driver.

roadside obstructing the traffic. As Dr. Rajkumar Road under Rajajinagar Traffic Police Station,is a commercial area and densely populated area, with a narrow road, with heavy traffic for 24 hours a day.Due to the traffic congestion on this road there is no parking zone area and it is difficult to allow smooth traffic despite the appointment of two officers and ten staff every day for traffic stops the towing vehicle and indulges in a heat argument with the officer and the towing crew he spreads rumours that the driver of the towing vehicle is drunk and driving on duty and they are just looting us and as he spreads rumours and blocks the towing vehicle the ASI Gangaiah immediately passes the information to the control room about the incident as soon as the information was passed to to clear the area and asked them to come to the police station and clear their doubts about the driver is drunk or not the inspector of Rajajinagar Traffic even requested the crowd by announcing in the Mic to clear the area as it is obstructing traffic for other commuters but the crowd dint hear to inspectors requests and started shouting slogans against traffic cops and swelled in blocking the whole area traffic demanding the driver should be tested on the spot and the anger mob even tried to climb the towing vehicle and pull the driver whom they blamed they even abused the cops with filthy language and used unparamilitary words against their family as the tension was gripped and went out of hands inspector got the Breathalyzer a alcometer machine and subjected the driver to blow in the alcometer the test turned into negative for the first time the anger mob demanded the cops to check again the inspector however checked for four times the percentage came as Zero percentage as the gathered crowd got to know they are fooled by the vehicle owner slowly they started to escape from the spot in the meanwhile the law and order cops of Rajajinagar police station who was at the spot while dispersing the crowd the protesters turned the protest into violent as one of the rogue monster injured the finger of ASI as Assistant Sub-inspector,Shivanna attached to Rajajinagar police Congress puts onus on loyalty, but also banks on BJP rebels

September 26, 2019 by Nasheman

This bypolls, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) is looking to field ‘loyalists’ from their party in all 15 Assembly segments.

Karnataka Congress chief Dinesh Gundu Rao

BENGALURU: This bypolls, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) is looking to field ‘loyalists’ from their party in all 15 Assembly segments. While candidates with high chances of winning matter, those who are loyal will help the party more. The names of the candidates are expected to be released by the end of Thursday.

The Congress had previously won in 12 out of 15 seats, with three going to the JDS. With just a few days left for filing nominations, the Congress has almost finalised its list of names. “We are done with the groundwork, and have almost zeroed-in on the candidates,’’ said a senior Congress leader on condition of anonymity. On Thursday,  KC Venugopal, state in-charge, is expected to announce the names.

KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao said that they are looking for candidates who are loyal to the party, while also being popular in the specific locality. “We have checked their backgrounds, commitment and popularity. There have been no issues in getting cadidates,” he said. However, he said they are finding it a little difficult to find candidates for three constituencies, not naming which ones.

Other Congress sources said they are being cautious while choosing names. “We do not want to take any risks. We have seen what happened with candidates who left the party suddenly — the same party that helped them grow. We do not have such people again. We will make a comeback,’’ sources said.

Congress is also banking on rebels within the BJP. “If the disqualified MLAs or their kin are allowed to contest, those who have worked with BJP and want to contest, will feel ignored. This will affect the BJP, but will work for the Congress,’’ said KPCC working president Eshwar Khandre.

“Congress seems to be choosing loyalists. This also includes those planning to join the party after being rejected by the BJP,” the senior leader said.

CBI Searches At Ex-Bengaluru Police Chief’s Home In Phone-Tapping Case

September 26, 2019 by Nasheman

The Central Bureau of Investigation took over the case after the BS Yeddyurappa-led BJP government last month asked the probe agency to take over the case from Bengaluru Police

CBI Searches At Ex-Bengaluru Police Chief's Home In Phone-Tapping Case

BENGALURU

Alok Kumar was the Bengaluru police chief during HD Kumaraswamy’s tenure.

Officials of the CBI are searching the home of former Bengaluru police commissioner Alok Kumar in the city in connection with the alleged phone-tapping of politicians and bureaucrats during the term of the Congress-JD(S) government in Karnataka.

Searches are being done in several other place in Bengaluru.

The Central Bureau of Investigation took over the case after the BS Yediyurappa-led BJP government last month asked the probe agency to take over the case from the cyber crime wing of Bengaluru Police.

Alok Kumar was the Bengaluru police chief during HD Kumaraswamy’s tenure.

Soon after taking over as Chief Minister in July, BS Yediyurappa had announced a CBI probe amid signs that the scandal was gaining political steam ever since disqualified JD(S) MLA AH Vishwanath, who had served as the party’s state president and later turned rebel, accused Mr Kumaraswamy’s of tapping phones and spying on more than 300 people, including him.

“It has come to the notice of the government that there are apprehensions that phones of several ruling and opposition political leaders, their relatives, and other government officials have been intercepted in an illegal unauthorised unwarranted manner,” the letter entrusting the probe to the CBI said.

Congress leaders, including Siddaramaiah, M Mallikarjuna Kharge and Home Minister in the alliance government MB Patil, had sought a probe while another key party leader and former minister, DK Shivakumar, rejected the snooping allegations and appeared to side with HD Kumaraswamy.

Phones of those close to Mr Siddaramaiah, who was the coalition coordination committee chief then, too had come under the watch.

Several BJP leaders, including former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, have accused Mr Kumaraswamy of being behind the episode to save his government which was then rocked by dissidence within.

Air Vice Marshal, N Tiwari said,Honourable Raksha Mantri was flying the aircraft in the air and he liked it.When reporters asked he was also flying and what was the zeal like,Tiwari said he went upto only two two and half zeal but I was showing him more of avionic sophistication system that we have on the board like laser pot diving maneuvering and turning and we can pick up targets from 20-25 kilometres.During the flight,I showed him various operations of the radar as well as laser pot, maneuvering and turning off the aircraft,I showed this to Raksha Mantri he even said he was very happy with the flying quality,Smoothness and controls and the way the Aircraft was flying we went close to Mark1 speed of sound but he couldn’t make out I had to tell me that this the speed now.Raksha Mantri controlled the aircraft and flown the aircraft for sometime. When reporters asked Defence Minister,Rajnath Singh that how you feel after controlling the aircraft he said I dint had any problem in controlling the aircraft I was following the instructions of AVM N Tiwari when reporters asked that controlling the fighter plane With co-pilot is big achievement he said it is a great honour for me and for him see he is the first Defence Minister to fly on Tejas and for us it is a very unique experience and it is a honour also to us he even said Raksha Mantri was fully comfortable.
I compliment Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh Ji for flying on Tejas, the indigenously built multi-role fighter aircraft, today. His gesture in flying on the LCA will provide a big boost to the morale of the Armed Forces and also to DRDO & HAL @DRDO_India @rajnathsingh #Tejas Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu tweeted.
The Air Force has already inducted a batch of the indigenous fighter jets. Initially, it had asked the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for 40 Tejas aircraft but last year the Air Force issued a request for procurement of 83 more such jets at a cost of more than Rs 50,000 crore.
Later in the day, Singh also attended an exhibition of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) products in Bengaluru.Tejas,a four-and-half generation light combat aircraft is developed by state-run aerospace giant HAL.The indigenous aircraft has already been inducted by the Indian Air Force (IAF) in its fleet. However, the naval version of Tejas is in the development phase.
Since June 2018, the IAF has inducted 16 weaponised LCAs into its combat fleet after its earlier version was validated by its pilots with initial operational clearance (LoC) given by the military aviation regulator Cemilac in December 2013. Although the IAF will have two squadrons of Tejas initially with 18 fighters each, it intends to have more squadron with an additional 83 of them as Mark-1 version.
Though he is the first defence minister to fly in a Tejas, his predecessor and current Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman flew in a Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter on January 17, 2008, from Jodhpur in Rajasthan.
Earlier in February, ace shuttler PV Sindhu and Army chief General Bipin Rawat flew in the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft Tejas during the Aero India 2019 air show in Bengaluru.
Former presidents Pratibha Patil and APJ Abdul Kalam also flew in Sukhoi-30 on November 25, 2009, and June 8, 2006, from Pune in western Maharashtra while in office. Kalam was the first president of India to fly in a fighter jet.
