‘I am being targeted’: Karnataka IPS officer Dr P Ravindranath resigns for fourth time

May 12, 2022 by Nasheman

Parmesh S Jain

Senior IPS officer and Director General of Police Recruitment on who is transferred recently, tendered his resignation on Tuesday citing that he is being targeted for taking action against people involved in fake caste certificate issues.

In his letter submitted to Chief Secretary,Mr.P Ravindranath said that he was pained to observe the apathy shown by the Chief Secretary, when he had requested him to issue government order to set up protection cell as per the rules 8 of SC/ST ( prevention of atrocities ) rules 1995.

He further said that he has been prematurely transferred without public interest, just to harass since he has taken legal action against people involved in fake caste certificate issues.

It may be recalled that Dr.Ravindranath had recently held a press conference to announce that he is probing the fake certificate cases pertaining to the Daughter of MLA Renukacharya and family members of MLC .

This apart many upper caste families in western ghats have obtained fake SC/ST caste certificate which are being probed by Mr.Ravindramath and recommended the authorities concerned to initiate legal action.

This could be the reason for his premature transfer against the service rules which barred transfer of officer within 2 years .

Mr. Ravindranath who was heading Directorate of civil rights enforcement was transferred as DGP Training.

This is the fourth time,he is tendering resignation as earlier he had resigned alleging harassment from his seniors and also objecting the government to sidelining him during promotion.

‘Closely following the situation’: Beijing wants fair inquiry into Xiaomi matter

May 10, 2022 by Nasheman

NEW DELHI: A guarded reaction to the ED probe against top executives of Xiaomi, China on Monday expressed hope that India will provide a fair environment to its companies.

“We hope India will provide a fair, just, and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese companies, conduct investigation, and law enforcement in accordance with laws and regulations so as to increase the confidence of global investors,” Zhao said.

He said the Chinese government always asks its companies to abide by laws and regulations while doing business overseas.

“But at the same time it firmly supports the Chinese companies in upholding their lawful rights and interests,” he said.

Xiaomi is accused of making illegal remittances abroad “in the guise of royalty” payments.

The ED on Saturday rejected as “baseless” the allegations that the statements of Xiaomi India officials, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Chinese mobile manufacturing company Xiaomi, were recorded “under coercion”, saying the charges were an afterthought.

The federal agency was responding to certain news reports that said Xiaomi alleged in a recent filing before the Karnataka High Court that its top executives were threatened with “physical violence and coercion” during their questioning by ED investigators in Bengaluru.

The ED issued a statement saying it was “a professional agency with strong work ethics and there was no coercion or threat to the officers of the company at any point of time”.

“The allegations that the statement of the officials of Xiaomi India was taken under coercion by ED is untrue and baseless,” the ED statement said.

The development comes in the backdrop of the ED passing an order on April 29 to seize Xiaomi India’s funds worth over Rs 5,551 crore over the alleged violation of the Indian foreign exchange law (Foreign Exchange Management Act).

The Karnataka High Court earlier this week stayed this ED order.

Xiaomi is a trader and distributor of mobile phones in India under the brand name MI.

Will enforce SC order on loudspeakers: Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai

May 10, 2022 by Nasheman

BENGALURU: As members of a pro-Hindu organisation played devotional songs from temples early Monday morning to protest against the use of loudspeakers at mosques for azaan, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the Supreme Court order on the use of loudspeakers in public places applies to everyone and it will be implemented in a strict, but cordial, manner. No one should take law into their own hands,
he said.

Bommai, after chairing a meeting with chief executive officers of zilla panchayats, said the Supreme Court has issued an order on the use of loudspeakers in public places and the then state government in 2002 too had issued an order in this regard. The issue was discussed with the senior officers during the meeting and clear orders will be issued again on implementing the court directions, he said.

“The Central government too has issued an order in accordance with recommendations of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). It clearly specifies the places and decibel levels for use of loudspeakers in public places. In 2002, the Karnataka government issued an order to implement the SC order and also directions from the Centre,” he said.

The GO issued by the state government also specifies details on various aspects, like whether the loudspeakers are used throughout the year and the need to obtain clearance for this.

Guidelines will be issued to enforce the order: CM Basavaraj Bommai

The onus of implementing the order lies with police officers of the rank of DySP in the respective areas. “Suitable guidelines will be issued to enforce the order,” the chief minister said. Bommai said everyone should obey the order and no one should take law into their own hands.

The government has taken note of the developments in other states and the SC order is being followed in many states, including Uttar Pradesh, he added.

Ex-Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy wants Sri Ram Sene chief arrested over loudspeaker row

May 10, 2022 by Nasheman

BAGALKOT: Criticizing Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik for his drive against loudspeakers in mosques, JDS leader and former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy demanded stringent action and immediate arrest of Muthalik.

“The government should permit loudspeakers as per the norms of the Supreme Court. I feel that playing Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers will not help to save Hindutva. I recite Hanuman Chalisa everyday at my home and whenever there are health and other issues. These organisations will create nuisance in the society and destroy innocent lives. The government should consider it seriously and arrest Muthalik at the earliest,” he said.

“Instead of carrying out such drives, there is a necessity to raise voice against the government for high inflation and soaring fuel prices. The farmers are yet to get the crop insurance of the previous year. The common people are already suffering, and the organisations should not play with their lives,” appealed the former Chief Minister.

By switching parties, Basavaraj Horatti violating statute: BK Hariprasad

May 6, 2022 by Nasheman

BENGALURU: Leader of Opposition in the Council BK Hariprasad on Thursday hit out at Upper House Chairman Basavaraj Horatti for “violating” the Constitution by announcing his decision to join the BJP while holding office. The Congress leader said this conduct of Horatti comes under the ambit of the Anti-Defection Law.

He has said he will resign as Chairman on May 11 and join the BJP, it is against the Constitution,” he added, demanding Horatti’s resignation. “A similar situation arose when Rajya Sabha member Sharad Yadav said he would join the RJD. Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu used that statement of Yadav to disqualify him,” Hariprasad said.

Horatti should uphold dignity of House: Hariprasad

“Horatti  is occupying a constitutional post, he met Amit Shah and said he will be joining the BJP. No one expected such a stand by Horatti, who is senior and has long experience… before coming to such a decision, he could have conducted himself in a manner that safeguards the dignity of the post he is holding,” Hariprasad said.

“Horatti is holding a high constitutional post. It goes without saying that he has to uphold the dignity and decorum of the House,” Hariprasad said, adding there could be a Constitutional crisis if the Congress plans to complain against Horatti. “…because if we have to take it up formally, we have to file a complaint with the deputy chairman, and that post is vacant.” Meanwhile, Horatti (76) joining the BJP has posed several questions to the saffron party. “How will they accommodate him when the party principle is not to allow anyone above the age of 75 to hold any post?” asked a political expert.

As Horatti prepares to switch sides to join the BJP, a big question is how the party will manage so many contradictions. While Horatti is over 75 years old, it will mean denying the party ticket to their own candidate Mohan Limbikai, and giving the seat to Horatti. Horatti is joining the BJP with the consent of the JDS, and there are many questions whether this is one of the first moves to ensure a larger synergy the BJP is building with JDS.
