A beautiful memorial that would attract visitors from other states too: CM Bommai

A beautiful memorial for late film star Ambarish that attracts visitors from neighboring states too would be built,Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.

Bommai in his address after performing the Bhoomi Puja for Ambarish’s memorial at Kanteerava Studio said,I used to call Ambarish as Ambarish only.

It is the same even now.Ours is a 40 year old friendship. We used to eat and roam around together, did usual things and also unusual things,” Bommai said recalling his association with Ambarish.

Ambarish’s life is like an open book.He lived on his own terms. One who lives according to his own terms and his conscience is the real hero.

Ambarish never compromised with his conscience. It was a God’s gift.He was born with leadership qualities.Though he started his cinema career as a villain,he emerged as a superhero as he was a born hero,Bommai said.

Friendly man

He was a friendly man who was ready to do anything for friendship.Bommai narrated his own experience when Ambarish used to join them abandoning his shooting immediately on hearing the car horn from the friends.

The producers had even come home and requested us not to come when Ambarish was shooting for their movie.

Sacrificed power in politics

Ambarish had special affection for the poor and farmers. But he had no penchant to stick to power.

Whether in power or not, Ambarish always detested power in politics.Such people are very rare.

When the Cauvery water dispute erupted he quit from the Union ministry without thinking even for a minute. Ambarish is the only politician who gave up power during Cauvery agitation, Bommai said.

Love for Mandya

He had a strong attachment for Mandya. His presence was electrifying wherever he was. Ambarish had a big role in making Kannada film industry’s presence in other states.

He had friends in every place. He was fondly called the Ajatha Shatru. He was loved by everyone, Bommai said.

Bommai recalled an event in Bijapur where over 5 lakh people turned out to have a glimpse of Ambarish.

The Chief Minister lauded Ambarish’s wife Sumalatha and son Abhishek for carrying forward the legacy of Ambarish.

Puneeth Memorial

Expressing his grief at the demise of Kannada film icons Dr Rajkumar, Vishnuvardhan, Shankarnag and Puneeth Rajkumar, Bommai said that a memorial for Puneeth would be built soon.

Bring my son’s body back, I want to see him: Naveen’s father

March 2, 2022 by Nasheman

CHALAGERI(HAVERI DIST): The pain of Shekhar Gyana Goudar, father of Naveen — who was killed in Russian shelling at Kharkiv in Ukraine on Tuesday, knew no bounds when he came to know that his son, with whom he spoke three times a day over WhatsApp, was no more. The shock was too much for Naveen’s mother Vijayalakshmi, who fainted.

As the news of Naveen’s death spread, friends and relatives started to gather at Shekhar Goudar’s house and consoled the family. Shekhar Goudar had only one question, “When are they getting my son’s body back? I want to see him…”

Naveen (21) was killed when he stepped out of the metro underground tunnel, where he and his friends were taking shelter, to get food from a supermarket on Tuesday morning. The entire family used to make video calls to Naveen every day and Tuesday was no exception. Shekhar Goudar spoke to Naveen just minutes before his death.

Soon after Naveen’s friend informed Shekhar that Naveen was dead, he told his relatives to get in touch with ministry of external affairs officials, who confirmed the news later. He said, “My son had told me about the hardships faced by him and his friends. I used to infuse confidence in him, tell him about the developments in other parts of Ukraine and efforts being made by the government to evacuate Indians.”

Naveen’s uncle Ujjinappa Gyana Goudar said, “The government should have been serious and started evacuation in places where the war was intense. The government should have shifted Indians, especially students, from Kyiv and Kharkiv first. If it had been done, Naveen would be alive.”

Shekhar Goudar said, “If professional education was affordable for the poor in this country, why would I have sent my son to Ukraine and lost him today?” He said, “I had visited union minister Pralhad Joshi’s house to request him to get back my son. I could not meet him and returned empty handed.”

Venkatesh, whose son Praveen too is studying at Kharkiv, said, “Naveen and Praveen were together at the bunker and they never came out. But on Tuesday, Naveen got up early and went to buy some food and exchange currency at the Beketova supermarket along with another friend Yeshwanth. Yeshwanth returned as it was too cold outside. At 7.58 am, Naveen called another friend Amit and asked him to transfer some money as he was short of cash. As Naveen didn’t return even after several minutes, they called him at 8.10 and a local resident, who picked up the call, told them that Naveen was dead and the body had been taken to the mortuary at a nearby hospital.”

Shekhar Goudar, who worked as an engineer in Abu Dhabi, returned to India some years ago and was working at South India Paper Mills Limited at Nanjangud. Naveen did his primary and higher primary at St Lawrence School in Ranebennur and later joined his father at Nanjangud. He completed his high school and pre-university in Mysuru. He appeared for NEET, but did not make the cutoff and decided to pursue medicine at Kharkiv National Medical University.

Shekhar Goudar retired from service two years ago and has started farming in Chalageri. Naveens’ brother Harsha, who is pursuing his PhD in agriculture at GKVK in Bengaluru, said Naveen had secured 97 per cent in second PU, but could not do well in NEET, which forced him to secure admission in Ukraine.

Naveen studied at Adarsha School in Debur village of Nanjangud taluk. He had visited his friends and the schools six months ago. He was the topper in SSLC for the school in 2015-16 and had secured 607 marks for 625. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Shekar Goudar and told him to be bold and to lead the family from the front.

Former chief minister BS Yediyurappa, who visited the family, said arrangements are being made to bring the body back in three to four days.

The State government would provide all the help for the students from Karnataka who have arrived from Ukraine to Mumbai and Delhi to reach their homes in various parts of the state, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.

Speaking to media persons at Vidhana Soudha Bommai said, the Principal Resident Commissioner at Delhi has been instructed to make arrangements for food and accommodation for these students.

We have also sent the list of our students to External Affairs minister,Dr Jaishankar after I spoke to him over the issue.

Most of the students are in the Kharakhai region of Ukraine.

They have been instructed to remain in safe places and avoid unnecessary movement in roads.

Our Prime Minister has spoken to the Russian President and requested for safe passage for flights to bring our students back home.He has accepted the request.

The process will begin once the war subsides. All measures would be taken to bring our students back home safely by road and air in the next few days, Bommai said.

CM speaks to students, boosts their morale

“I too spoke to some students and provided the contact numbers for help. I have assured all the help and asked them to keep their morale high.

Our Prime Minister’s talks with the Russian President are showing results. All the Indians and Kannadigas would be brought home safely,” Bommai said.

As the war is raging there is no order. There is chaos in cities and towns where Russians have entered. Indians too are stranded there.
