Woman dragged by robbers on bike on Women’s Day

March 12, 2019 by Nasheman

A 53-year-old woman who was waiting on a roadside in Delhi’s Janakpuri area was dragged by two men on their bike as she tried to stop them from snatching her purse, a video of which has gone viral.

On Friday around 4 pm, Shobha Kanwar was waiting outside a residential colony in Janakpuri area after getting down from a cab.

While she was on phone, confirming the address she had to visit for a meeting, two men came on a bike and tried to snatch her purse, police said.

As Kanwar held on to the bag, she fell down and was dragged for about 20-25 metres.

However, the bike-borne men managed to flee with the bag, which had about Rs 20,000 in cash, police said.

Kanwar alleged that no one came to her help despite the incident happening in a posh residential area of the national capital in broad daylight.

A CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral on social media websites.

In the video, several onlookers could be seen unmoved by the incident even as the woman gets dragged on.

Police have registered a case and is on lookout for the accused, who have been identified.

Kanwar, who runs a pre-nursery school in Najafgarh, claimed she lost a few essential documents, which were in the bag.

She sustained severe injuries on knees, hands, waist and face, officials said.

However, she immediately dialled police helpline number 100 and also lodged an e-FIR.

A case of theft was initially registered.

However, the e-FIR was later converted and sections of robbery have also been added, Sameer Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) said.

Police said the woman was initially hesitant in filing a case thinking of the process that it takes.

At the time, another gangster associated with the twin brothers,Koti Rama, was also arrested in connection with the case. Lakshmana was out on bail, while Koti Rama remained in the Chitradurga prison as he was accused of contracting the murder of a local politician in Mysuru.Koti Rama and Lakshmana became rivals during this period simply because Lakshmana was not sending Koti Rama money while he was in prison.Once Lakshmana was out of prison in 2005,he allegedly affiliated himself with other gangsters, who were rivals of Koti Rama and another of his former associate Slum Bharata.

He would take the original documents from the victims and never return it.He would then threaten them and get the properties transferred to Mirle’s name.If a landowner decided to go ahead with any kind of construction, Lakshmana would bring his henchmen and demolish the structures. He would also resort to brutal assault to threaten the victims. In December 2018, the police arrested Lakshmana after a family from Jagajyothi Layout in Bengaluru complained to the police that Lakshmana had illegally occupied their house for two years and was refusing to vacate. He was released on bail only a week ago.Lakshmana has been a rowdy-sheeter for two decades now.He had also affiliated himself to a few political leaders recently. These rowdy sheeters come in and out of prison. Many of them hatch conspiracies to commit murders, thefts and abductions while they are in prison.Rivalries between rowdies are common. They convert their plans into action once they come out of jail either on bail or on parole. He succumbed to injuries while he was being taken to the hospital by the locals.Mahalaxmi Layout police with other neighbouring Station Police inspectors with other senior official and staff rushed to spot and cordoned the crime scene and we have registered a case and are investigating the murder and special teams has been formed by DCP North,Shashi Kumar and we will solve the murder case soon he added.

Missing Indian-origin woman’s body found in suitcase in Australia

March 7, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News :  A 32-year-old dentist of Indian origin in Australia, who went missing earlier this week, has been murdered and her body was found dumped in a suitcase in her abandoned car, the police said.

Preethi Reddy, 32, was reported missing by her family on Sunday after she did not come home from a dental convention in St. Leonards, a suburb of Sydney, CNN affiliate 7 News Australia reported.

According to the police, Reddy was murdered as her body bore several stab wounds. The man who was suspected of killing the woman was her Indian-origin ex-boyfriend and dentist Harsh Narde. Police officials said the man died in a car crash on the New England Highway on Monday night, a day after Reddy was reported missing.

They say that the head-on collision, which occurred around 340 km from where Reddy’s body was found, was a “deliberate act.” According to the police, they spoke to Narde as part of the missing persons investigation before his death.

“I cannot qualify exactly what has happened and I won’t put it out there because if we’re wrong and it’s not substantiated then we’re doing a disservice to Preethi and her family,” Detective Superintendent Gavin Dengate told ABC News.

“At this stage we know they met up in Sydney and now we’re looking at all the movements between these two,” the officer said.

Preethi was captured on CCTV inside McDonald’s at the Strand Arcade in central Sydney about 2.15 a.m. on Sunday and appeared to leave alone.

On Tuesday, the police located her car parked on a street in Kingsford, south of the city centre. A search of the vehicle located Reddy’s body in a suitcase. She had been stabbed “numerous times,” they said.

“Further inquiries have established that Preethi (Reddy) stayed at a hotel on Market Street, Sydney CBD, on Sunday with a man known to her,” the police said.

Reddy was attending a dental conference in St. Leonards and last spoke to her family at around 11 a.m. on Sunday, saying she planned to head home after having a late breakfast, according to the police.

Glenbrook Dental Surgery, where Reddy had worked and which had been appealing for information about her disappearance, said staff were “in mourning” after news of her death.

Numerous patients of Reddy posted messages of condolences for her family on the surgery’s Facebook page.

Indian-origin man gets 33-month jail in US for over $2m fraud

March 6, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News, Washington :  An Indian-origin man in the US has been sentenced to 33 months in prison and ordered to pay $2,618,000 in restitution for being convicted of mail fraud and embezzlement, authorities said.

Dinesh Shankar, 41, San Jose, California, was sentenced last week for embezzling from a medical device company, US Attorney David L. Anderson and Federal Bureau of Investigation special agent in charge John F. Bennett said.

In addition to the prison sentence and restitution, Shankar was also ordered to serve a three-year term of supervised release. He will begin serving the sentence on May 1, the Justice Department said.

According to the plea agreement, from March 2013 until January 2018 Shankar was an employee of an Emeryville-based medical device company. Beginning July 2013 until December 2017, he submitted false expense reports and invoices to the finance department, making the company pay more than half a million dollars.

In addition, Shankar admitted creating false invoices that appeared to be issued by six different entities. The entities were actually fictitious business names for entities that he controlled.

Shankar prepared the false invoices to make it appear the entities had provided testing and quality assurance services to his employer when, in fact, they had not provided the services. Shankar, according to the statement, admitted he caused $2,576,384 loss to the company.

A federal grand jury indicted Shankar in April 2018, charging him with six counts of mail fraud. He pleaded guilty to one count in November and the remaining were dismissed

Man harasses couple, crowd joins him

Molestation

BENGALURU: A married couple had a nightmarish experience on Tuesday night when an allegedly drunk man molested the woman, assaulted her husband for objecting to his moves, and mobilised a crowd against them, saying “outsiders” like them brought a bad name to the city.

The couple approached the police after a BMTC bus driver and conductor came to their rescue. The assailant has been arrested. The incident occurred at a traffic signal near Raghavendra Mutt signal in second phase, JP Nagar. Deepa (34) was riding pillion with her husband Rohit (names changed), when the accused Kiran S (31), a salesman, came on his two-wheeler and stopped next to them.

Kiran allegedly started staring at Deepa, which she initially ignored. But when he continued to do so, she told him to look elsewhere. An infuriated Kiran started verbally abusing her. When she asked him to watch his words, Kiran allegedly got off his two-wheeler and pushed Deepa off her bike. Rohit then rushed to his wife’s rescue.

Deepa told the police that Kiran started hitting her husband with his helmet and also touched her inappropriately. When she pushed him away, he allegedly slapped her, scratched her face and kicked Rohit in his abdomen.

The commotion attracted a crowd, and Kiran reportedly said something to them in Kannada, prompting them to start abusing the couple over their “outsider” status.Rohit is from Maharashtra, while Deepa, although born in Mangaluru, was brought up in another state. Neither of them understands Kannada.

Kiran, a resident of seventh phase, JP Nagar, even called his friends, who threatened the couple further, before the two were rescued by the driver and conductor of a passing BMTC bus. They then complained to Jayanagar police.

Kiran too followed them to file a counter-complaint. “But we verified the facts and found that Kiran was at fault. We have arrested him for outraging the modesty of woman, assault and sent him to jail,” an investigating officer said.

CBSE cautions students against ‘fake news’

February 28, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : The CBSE on Wednesday advised students to not fall for fake videos/messages on social media and warned of legal action against those who concoct and spread such messages.

“It has been noticed in the past that certain unscrupulous elements spread rumours by posting fake videos/messages on You Tube, Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms, obviously with the intention of spreading confusion and panic among students, parents, schools and public,” the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said in a circular.

“Through this notice, persons involved in such activities are warned and advised to restrain themselves,” it said, adding necessary legal action will be taken against those found indulging in such acts.

The message was, apparently, intended to counter any fake news on question paper leaks that may cause anxiety among students.

Though such incidents occur in every examination season, last year the question papers of accountancy and mathematics were leaked for real, bringing the board under widespread criticism.
