Karnataka CM Yediyurappa, Health Minister appeal to people above 45 years to get vaccinated

BENGALURU: As the state geared up to vaccinate everyone above 45 years of age from Thursday, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar appealed to the eligible people to make use of this protective cover against coronavirus.

Health Minister Sudhakar too tweeted, “As we begin vaccinating all citizens aged above 45 years from today, 5,500 vaccination sites will be operational across the state including 650 private and 4,850 government facilities.”

According to him, 1.5 lakh doses of vaccine is supplied to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, the civic body, which is distributed to about 600 sites across the state capital.

The Health Department said in a statement that COVID- 19 vaccination will continue at all the primary health centres, community health centres, Taluk hospitals, district hospitals, medical colleges and private hospitals as already being done.

It added that Karnataka has in stock 13.5 lakh doses of Covishield vaccine and 1.5 lakh doses of Covaxin vaccine and it has been supplied to all the cold chain points across the districts as per their requirement.

The government of India has assured the state that additional vaccine doses will be supplied regularly in the coming days as per daily coverage, the department added.

The vaccination drive covering everyone above 45 years of age started at a time when there is an alarming rise in cases in Karnataka.

The state reported 4,225 fresh cases including 26 deaths on a single day on Wednesday.

1,587 new COVID-19 cases, 10 deaths in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Mar 19: Karnataka recorded 1,587 new cases of COVID-19 and 10 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 9,66,689 and the death toll to 12,425, the Health Department said on Friday.

Out of the 1,587 cases, 1,037 cases were from Bengaluru Urban alone.

This is for the fourth consecutive day that the state is reporting over 1,000 new cases.

The day saw 869 patients getting discharged after recovery.

As of March 19 evening, cumulatively, 9,66,689 positive cases have been confirmed, including 12,425 deaths and 9,42,178 who have been discharged, the Health department said.

Out of 12,067 active cases, 11,936 patients were in isolation at designated hospitals and stable while 131 were in ICU.

Among the 10 deaths, six were from Bengaluru Urban, two from Mysuru and one each from Bidar and Dharwad.

Among the districts where the new cases were reported, Bengaluru urban accounted for 1,037, Kalaburagi 61, Tumakuru 50, Mysuru 49, Dakshina Kannada 47, Bidar 40 followed by others.

Bengaluru Urban district topped the list of positive cases with a total of 4,15,447, followed by Mysuru 54,682 and Ballari 39,447.

Among those discharged, Bengaluru Urban again topped the list with 4,02,280, followed by Mysuru 53,367 and Ballari 38,745.

A total of 2,01,93,326 samples have been tested so far, out of which 91,884 were tested today and 6,209 of them were rapid antigen tests.

For past three days, Karnataka reported 900 Covid cases daily

BENGALURU: Although the number of Covid-19 cases are much lower than the peak in September-October last year, the gradual rise in infections has the state government worried.From around 7,300 active cases at the end of January, the number has risen to around 8,860 in mid-March.For the past three days, the state has been seeing over 900 new infections a day. Sunday saw 932 new cases, Saturday saw 934 and Friday 921. 

Bengaluru alone saw 550 cases, slightly over half of the state’s 932 cases on Monday. However, this is lower than 628 and 630 recorded in the previous two days. Bengaluru Urban district has the highest number of cases. Bengaluru city has had 4,11,989 total positive cases so far with 4,01,010 recoveries. 
Bengaluru Urban has 6,454 active cases, while the number was 4,376 on on January 23. The city saw five deaths on Monday.

Dakshina Kannada district had the second-highest number of new cases at 65, followed by Mysuru (46), Tumakuru (40) and Kalaburagi (43).Experts said that the cluster cases in Bengaluru need to be addressed. 
“Apart from checking for RT-PCR negative certificates at Kerala and Maharashtra borders, Karnataka should also carry out testing at wedding halls, cinema halls, parks, schools and colleges.

This will help identify cases easily, be it symptomatic or asymptomatic, and thereby tracing the contacts in a 1:20 ratio,” a health department official said.Karnataka has the third-highest number of total infections in the country after Maharashtra and Kerala. In terms of active cases too, Karnataka had 8,860 as on Monday, while Maharashtra and Kerala have around 1.3 lakh and 29,000 respectively.

CM BS Yediyurappa takes a jab of COVID-19 vaccine

BENGALURU : Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has not shown any adverse issues after taking Covaxin on Friday, while Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar, who too got the jab along with the CM, reported mild temperature on Saturday. 

A family member of  Yediyurappa as well the Chief Minister’s Office confirmed that the chief minister is fine without any complications. Yediyurappa had tested COVID-positive in August and was hospitalised for about a week at Manipal Hospital. Later, he was under home quarantine for about a week.

A health official said that Yediyurappa may have developed antibodies and that was why he did not show any reaction to the vaccine. Manipal Hospital chairman Dr Sudarshan Ballal, who is part of the state COVID Task Force, said that most people do not develop any symptoms after the vaccination. Dr Ballal said he has received both the doses and did not have any temperature. 

On Monday, Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah, who has registered himself, heads to Victoria Hospital to get himself vaccinated around 4 pm, said Dr Jayanti, Director of the hospital. Siddaramaiah too had tested positive in August and was in Manipal Hospital. On many people reporting a rise in body temperature after receiving the vaccine, Dr Jayanti said that they too are studying it.

Quota demand: Karnataka govt forms panel under retired judge

Bengaluru: Karnataka government on Wednesday constituted a three-member high-level committee headed by a retired High Court judge Subhash Adi to look into demands by various communities in the state for revising the existing reservation and advise it.

“As per the decision of the Cabinet to examine the demands by various communities on reservation within the constitutional and legal framework, a high-level committee headed by retired High Court judge Subhash Adi has been constituted,” Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa’s office tweeted.

It said retired Chief Secretary Ratna Prabha and professor B V Vasanth Kumar, assistant professor at Maharani Arts College, Mysuru, would be its members.

The state Cabinet had, on March 3, decided to constitute the three-member high-level committee, and authorised the Chief Minister to make appointments to it.

Informing about the decision, Law Minister Basavaraj Bommai had said the retired judge would look into legal and constitutional aspects while the retired administrator would go into administrative aspect.

He had said there would also be a social scientist in the committee, which would give a comprehensive report.

Indicating that it was inevitable to breach the 50 per cent cap if demands are to be fulfilled, Bommai had said if it has to exceed 50 per cent, special criteria has to be identified and the committee would guide the government on this constitutionally and legally.

The state, at present, provides 15 per cent reservation for Scheduled Castes, three per cent for Scheduled Tribes and 32 per cent for the Other backward classes (OBCs), which add up to 50 per cent.

There are demands for revision of the existing quota from various communities led by seers or pontiffs, who have held protests.

The Veerashaiva-Lingayats are demanding OBC status under the central list, whereas the sub-sect of the community Panchamasali Lingayats wants to be put under Category 2A in the state quota.

The other dominant Vokkaliga community has decided to seek enhancement of reservation and wants all Vokkaliga sub-sects to be included under OBC.

On the other hand, the backward Kuruba community is seeking ST tag, the Valmiki community wants ST quota to be hiked from 3 per cent to 7.5 per cent.

Ramesh Jarkiholi Sleaze CD case: State government orders SIT Probe into alleged Ramesh Jarkiholi Sex Scandal Case:

Karnataka Home minister,Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Soumendhu Mukherjee Additional Commissioner of police West to investigate into the case pertaining to the alleged sex tape of former minister Ramesh Jarkiholi.

The state government formed SIT to probe the  alleged scandal involving Ex-Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi,Basavaraj Bommai, Home minister, said.

After attending a meeting chaired by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and senior police officers,it was decided to set up SIT.

He added that Bengaluru police commissioner Kamal Pant has been asked to appoint Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Soumendu Mukherjee to head the SIT,and to submit the report after the probe to find out people involved and the source of CD and motive behind it.

Earlier Jarkiholi brothers who hired private detectives to probe the People behind the alleged scandal to implicate him.

Mr.Ramesh requested the Home minister stating that through this people behind the scandal have asssasinated his character and also conspired to defame him through political conspiracy  .

Mr.Ramesh while submitting the request  demanded CBI or CID probe.

Meanwhile the cubbon park police continue to track down the woman in the video clips will hand over the details of the probe to the SIT.

BJP MLA,Jarkiholi had stepped down as Karnataka’s water resources minister on March 3 amid allegations of sexual harassment against him. The formation of the SIT comes a day after Jarkiholi claimed that he was aware of the political conspiracy being hatched against him for around four months.

Meanwhile Days after an alleged sex video of former Karnataka minister Ramesh Jarkiholi was beamed across television channels,Bengaluru City Police Commissioner,Kamal Pant issued a directive,citing a Karnataka High Court order on March 6,prohibiting networks from airing content not in adherence to existing rules.

Any channel airing a programme that offends against good taste or decency,among other restrictions,can be charged under the Cable Television Networks Rules,the Bengaluru Police chief said in the order issued to all broadcasters on Tuesday.

The order cited Section 19 of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act,which prohibits all the broadcasts,which are not strictly in conformity in terms of programming code as defined under Cable Television Network Rules.

Cricket betting racket busted five held Rs.1 lakh seized by CCB

Special inquiry wing of CCB on Thursday raided a house in Anepalya and arrested a gang of five persons who were running cricket betting racket.

The accused has been identified as,Mir Ghulam Hyder,Arun Raj,Akbar Ali,Laiq Ali and Roshan.

Senior officer told media persons,Based on a tip off,a team of police led by Ravi Patil,and team raided a house in Anepalya and arrested five persons.

The police have seized Rs.1 lakh and mobile phones from them.

According to the police the prime accused Mir Ghulam Hyder was prime accused in the racket was monitoring the ongoing pakistan premier league cricket matches and receiving bets from punters .

All the five have been booked and a case against the accused is registered in Ashoknagar police station and further investigation is on.

Finally Bengaluru Police Commissioner,Kamal Pant,has appreciated Joint CP Crime,Sandeep Patil,DCP Crime-1, KP Ravikumar,and his team as Ravi Patil and other staff has been appreciated for the commendable job done by them in busting cricket betting racket he added.

Sandalwood Drugs link: East division police raid premises of producer Shankar gowda in Bengaluru

The East Division police of Govindapura police station on Monday raided the office of kannada film producer Shankar Gowda and searched the premises in connection with the international drug racket case which they have busted on February 26.

The raid was conducted based on the information provided by one of the accused arrested earlier in the case.

Senior officer told media persons,As part of the ongoing investigation into drug racket busted recently,by the Banaswadi Sub-Division police of Govindapura police station,ACP,Sakkri,PI,Prakash and team searched the house and office of kannada film producer Shankar Gowda situated in Dollars colony on Monday night.

The search was carried out based on the information provided by one of the accused about Shankar Gowda having links with drug peddlers.

A team of police conducted search and recovered the mobile phone laptop,and other electronic gadgets for further investigation.

The police have also summoned Prakash Gowda to appear before them for questioning.

On February 26,The police had arrested three foreign nationals involved in drug peddling and recovered huge amount of synthetic drugs from them worth Rs 3.5 Crore.

They had revealed the name of Big Boss contestant Mastan Chandra.Recently the police had searched his house and taken him into custody for investigation.

Based on his statement as during investigation the cops grilled the big boss contestant and he spilled the beans that Shankar Gowda used to procure drugs from him based on which we have carried raid said another officer.

This is the second drug case linked to film industry as CCB on last September busted drug racket involving film actors,producers and RTO officer and event organisers he added.

436 new COVID-19 cases in Karnataka, 5 deaths

Bengaluru, Mar 8: Karnataka reported 436 new COVID-19 cases and five related fatalities, taking the caseload to 9,55,451 and the toll to 12,367, the Health department said on Monday.

The day also saw 478 patients getting discharged after recovery.

Out of the 436 fresh cases reported on Monday, 287 cases were from Bengaluru Urban alone.

Cumulatively 9,55,451 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 12,367 deaths and 9,36,250 discharges, the Health department said in its bulletin.

Out of the 6,815 active cases, 6,699 patients are stable and in isolation at designated hospitals, while 116 are in Intensive Care Units.

Bengaluru Urban accounted for four deaths, while the other fatality was reported from Mysuru

Among districts, Kalaburagi came behind Bengaluru Urban with 22 cases Udupi 18, Dakshina Kannada 14, Tumakuru 12, followed by others.

Bengaluru Urban district topped the list of positive cases with a total of 4,08,312, followed by Mysuru 54,209 and Ballari 39,317.

Among discharges too, Bengaluru Urban was on top with 3,98,808, followed by Mysuru 53,041 and Ballari 38,656.

A total of over 1,93,61,547 samples have been tested so far, out of which 56,445 were tested on Monday alone.
