No proof against Dr Zakir Naik; security agencies asked to probe deeper

September 1, 2016 by Nasheman

zakir naik

Mumbai: Even after two months of rigorous investigation the security agencies have not found any solid evidence against Islamic preacher Dr Zakir Naik, who is accused by a section of media of inspiring terrorists and violating foreign funding norms.

No violations

Highly placed sources said that the Islamic Research Foundation, the NGO run by Dr Naik, has almost come out clean on foreign donations received. In its reply submitted before the home ministry last week, Dr Naik’s NGO has given details of funds reportedly received in 2014 from Dubai with an explanation on expenditure, a senior MHA official said on the condition of anonymity.

The NGO has received nearly Rs 93 lakh from Dubai in 2014. Naik’s spokesperson Arif Malik said: “In 2014-15, MHA carried out inspection of our accounts and foreign donation utilisation and after three weeks of exhaustive investigations gave us a clean chit.

Still the NGO is facing the threat of ban under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) after solicitor-general Ranjit Kumar wrote to the Ministry of Home Affairs asking it to take action against the televangelist.

Probe to be intensified

Meanwhile, the security agencies have been asked to analyse Dr Naik’s speeches in a more comprehensive manner and conduct a more exhaustive probe before any decision is taken on whether to gag him and ban his NGO, Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), as an unlawful association.

The development comes with the Law Ministry advising the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which has jurisdiction over security agencies, that not enough evidence is on record to proceed against Naik.

“We have been advised to analyse a larger number of speeches delivered by Naik to arrive at a clearer picture of whether he is liable for any action. While several of his speeches have already been analysed, we will now have to go through as many of his speeches as is possible – not all his speeches might be easily available,” a source in the MHA said.

The process could take weeks, or even months, as it is “extremely laborious”. The source said, “Videos of Naik’s speeches available in the public domain will have to be authenticated to prove they are not doctored in any way, and then they will have to be carefully transcribed.”

Terror allegations

Meanwhile, security agencies have claimed that nearly 55 terror accused, arrested from across the country over the past decade, have reportedly been influenced by Dr Naik, or at least they have watched Dr Naik’s speeches. These terror accused include those who were picked up as far back as 2005. However the agencies have failed to produce any proof for their claims.

Dr Naik’s lawyer has refuted these allegations and said that if his speeches are seen in their full context, no one would conclude that he had inspired people to commit acts of terror. Those leveling allegations against Naik might have relied upon doctored speeches available on the Internet, and not on the entire speech, his lawyer had earlier said.

Sakra World Hospital introduces Computer Navigated Partial Knee Replacement Surgery

August 31, 2016 by Nasheman

Sakra Hospital

Only 7 Computer Navigated Partial Knee Replacement Surgeries have been performed till date in India and Sakra World Hospital is the first in South India and the only hospital other than AIIMS, Delhi to use this novel technique for treatment

Bengaluru: India is currently the second largest hub of osteoarthritis in the world. The number of patients in India is estimated to touch 60 million people nationally by the year 2025 and to become the world capital of osteoarthritis commonly known as wear and tear disease. About 20 years ago, the condition was noted to affect only those above the age of 65, but as per various studies today it is diagnosed in patients between the age group of 35-55.

Osteoarthritis in severe conditions results in complete disability of the knee and can leave the person bed ridden. Traditionally, the first step of treatment was to administer the patient with strong dose of pain killers to relive the pain temporarily. If the pain was not relieved even post medication and physiotherapy the only option was to undergo Total Knee Replacement Surgery. It is estimated that only 10% of Indians undergo TKR procedure due to the fear of late recovery and post recovery pain.

The latest procedure which has revolutionized the future of
Knee replacement surgeries is Partial Knee Replacement also
Known as UNICONDYLAR (PARTIAL) KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY using COMPUTER NAVIGATION. “Partial Knee Replacement Surgery replaces only the diseased part of the joint, and it is performed through a small incision, and involves less bone and soft tissue dissection. The technique used reduces the blood loss and also the risk of medical complications. The other benefits of the technique include minimal pain post operation and significant reduction of post-operative rehabilitation” said Dr. Chandrashekar. P, Senior Consultant & HOD – Orthopaedics, Sakra World Hospital.

Most studies have suggested that the recovery range of motion in patients who have Undergone Partial Knee Replacement is much faster when compared with patients who have undergone Total Knee Replacement. The technique of computer navigated partial knee replacement is relatively new in India. The technique was recently launched in India in AIIMS, Delhi and only seven surgeries have taken place, five out of which have been performed in AIIMS and two at Sakra World Hospital which is the first in South India.
A 52 year old housewife from Dhanbad, Jharkhand suffering from osteoarthritis, who was treated at Sakra World Hospital is the first person in South India to be treated by Computer Navigated Partial Knee Replacement. As a result of her condition she had severe pain her right knee joint, which progressed over time leaving her unable to perform her normal routine. Due to the inefficiency of medication and physiotherapy, surgery remained the only viable option. The doctors at Sakra after assessing her condition suggested Computer Navigated Partial Knee Replacement instead of TKR surgery performed elsewhere.

Computer Navigated Partial Knee Replacement is an attractive option for both the younger generation and the elderly. With more number of youngsters found suffering from ageing ailments, Computer Navigated Partial Knee Replacement becomes a good option. The beauty of the procedure is its adaptability to the Indian cultural requirements of squatting and sitting cross legged. It also helps in preservation of your natural bone and tissue with more ideal patient specific positioning, thereby giving a natural feel.

Legal opinion to MHA suggests action against Zakir Naik

August 31, 2016 by Nasheman

zakir naik

New Delhi: Controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik may soon be booked under the stringent anti-terror law with a legal opinion is said to have suggested action against him and his NGO, Islamic Research Foundation (IRF).

Sources said the Home Ministry had sought a legal opinion on the possible action to be taken against Naik for his controversial activities, including allegedly delivering hate speech.

The legal opinion is understood to have conveyed to the Home Ministry that Naik’s statements in different forums allegedly promoted enmity and hatred between religious groups and inspired and incited terrorists.

A case of should be registered against Naik under anti-terror laws for allegedly delivering hate speech on different occasions, sources said quoting the legal opinion.

The legal opinion suggested that there is a “conscious intention” on Naik’s part towards spreading enmity among religious groups.

Apart from Naik, cases should be registered against his NGO IRF, which is allegedly funded radical activities, the legal advice said to have suggested.

Naik has come under the scanner of the security agencies after Bangladeshi newspaper ‘Daily Star’ had reported that one of the attackers of the July 1 terror strike in Dhaka, Rohan Imtiaz, ran a propaganda on Facebook last year quoting Naik.

Naik, in his lecture aired on Peace TV, an international Islamic channel, had reportedly “urged all Muslims to be terrorists”.

Naik, a popular but controversial Islamic orator and founder of Mumbai-based Islamic Research Foundation, is banned in the UK and Canada for his hate speech aimed against other religions. He is among 16 banned Islamic scholars in Malaysia.

He is hugely popular in Bangladesh through his Peace TV, although his preachings often demean other religions and even other Muslim sects.

August 31, 2016 by Nasheman

rape

Kolkata: Two drivers of a popular online cab aggregator service were arrested today for their alleged involvement in raping and killing a 12-year-old pavement dweller in the city.

The duo — Shankar Shaw and Guddu Singh — allegedly kidnapped the girl last night by forcing her into an Ola taxi and drove her to the Park Circus flyover where they took turns to rape the minor inside the vehicle, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.

After gangraping the minor all through the night, the duo killed her by strangulating at around 5 AM and then tossed her body into a canal below the flyover in Topsia area, the officer said.

“A team from Hare Street Police station arrested both and they have confessed their crime,” he said.

The drivers had consumed alcohol at Watgunge and then started going around the city looking for soft targets to “have some fun” and it was then they spotted the girl on the pavement on Brabourne Road, the officer added.

Chinese official media attacks Modi for Balochistan remarks

August 30, 2016 by Nasheman

Narendra Modi

August: A state-run Chinese daily today cried foul over India’s move to extend enhanced compensation for victims of terror to people of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi has “lost patience and switched to the expected hardline tone of hostility”.

Referring to Modi’s comments on Balochistan for the first time, an article in the state-run Global Times website said he is raising it to divert attention from the tense situation prevailing in Kashmir.

“After reluctant attempts to revitalise Indo-Pak relations, Narendra Modi, now in his third year as Indian prime minister, has lost patience and switched to the expected hardline tone of hostility,” it said.

Describing the extension of Rs five lakh compensation to the victims of terrorism to people in PoK, as a “provocation”, the article said “more importantly, Kashmiris on the Pakistani side of the border can claim this compensation, too”.

“This is not the only provocation. Another was his Independence Day address on August 15,” it said, referring to Modi’s remarks that people of Balochistan, Gilgit and PoK were thanking him for raising human rights violations there.

This is the first time Chinese official media referred to Modi’s remarks about PoK and Balochistan, where China is building USD 46 billion Economic Corridor, which was objected to by India as it goes through the disputed territory.

“Analysts see the political push as coming from a small team filled by influential ministers and people who are the veterans of the ‘cold war’ with Pakistan. Some are members of the National Executive of the RSS,” it said.

“This risky gesture is not supported by everyone in the Indian government. Outstanding reservations come from his intelligence chiefs and the external affairs ministry,” said the article ‘Modi’s provocations raise risks for India’.

“Why would Modi choose to publicly reference Balochistan when his country kept denying an Indian role there? Even on Kashmir, why would he be so provocative when the Pakistani response will inevitably draw world attention at a time his government is trying to prevent the issue being internationalised?,” it said.

“Not surprisingly, there are speculations that Modi is just trying to divert global attention from what’s going on in the valley,” it said. “This may only make it even trickier for India to find a resolution by deliberately expanding the range of bilateral conflicts,” the article said.

“Another concern for Modi is the 19th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit, which will be held in Pakistan this year. Modi is scheduled to visit Islamabad for the SAARC summit in November, but the impatient prime minister has decided to break up the Indo-Pak impasse to see what can be fished from the troubled waters,” it said.

“But the long-term cost will be the moral blow to India when it tries to manage its own insurgencies and secessionist movements, which tends to invite international attention and intervention,” it said.

Brown pants on sale, RSS to don new uniform from Vijayadashmi

August 30, 2016 by Nasheman

rss

Nagpur: The The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) which has planned to adopt the new uniform at its annual Vijayadashmi programme on October 11 this year, officially launched the sale of brown trousers.

It will be the first Vijayadashmi where swayamsevaks will be seen in khaki trousers that were decided upon to replace the half pants earlier this year. For waist size 20-24, sources in the RSS said, a pair of trousers would cost Rs 250. Swayamsevaks will have to pay Rs 10 more for every additional 2 inches.

The RSS had announced in March that it would do away with its trademark khaki knickers that it has used for 91 years and replace them with khaki trousers. The decision had come at annual meeting of the right-wing organization’s highest decision making body, the Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha.

The RSS had said at the time that the decision was something that its leadership had considered for a long time, and that it was aimed at changing with the times. RSS leaders had dismissed speculation that the change had been aimed at attracting and retaining youth who shied away from wearing the knickers.
