Bengaluru: A promising young TV actor died after undergoing plastic surgery at a city facility here, police said on Tuesday, with the victim’s family alleging medical negligence over the ‘fat-free’ procedure she underwent at the cosmetic centre.
Chethana Raj (21), who is said to have had a promising career, had made a mark in daily soap operas such as ‘Doresani’ and ‘Geetha.’ She was admitted to Dr Shetty’s Cosmetic Centre on Monday for a plastic surgery.
While undergoing the ‘fat-free surgery’ in the hospital, things went wrong during operation after anesthesia, police said. As she suffered a cardiac arrest, anesthetist Dr Melvin rushed her to the Kaade Hospital.
According to a complaint lodged by Dr Sandeep V, the ICU intensivist at the Kaade Hospital, Dr Melvin rushed her to the hospital and ‘threatened’ everyone to treat her the way he was directing.
He also stated there was no pulse on the victim and tried CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) for 45 minutes to revive her but there was no response. He suspected she was brought dead.
“We strongly object to this kind of behaviour by these doctors and if necessary we may decide to file a report against them. This report is sent to you to bring to your notice that this incident does not appear normal,” Dr Sandeep said in his complaint.
There was no immediate response from Dr Shetty’s Cosmetic Centre despite repeated calls and messages.
Chethana’s father K Varadaraj said the hospital authorities told him his daughter died of a cardiac arrest. He has lodged a complaint at the Basaveshwara Nagar police station alleging medical negligence against them, he added.
A television actor who worked with Chethana, on conditions of anonymity said the latter was a promising and ambitious actor who wanted quick success.
K’taka HM warns Hindu group demanding permission to perform prayers to Hanuman inside Tipu mosque
Bengaluru, May 17: Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra on Tuesday warned a Hindu group not to challenge law and order following their claim that the Masjid-e-Ala at Srirangapatna in Mandya district was a Hanuman temple and they should be allowed to worship there.
A fringe group called ‘Narendra Modi Vichar Manch’ (NMVM) recently approached the Mandya deputy commissioner on May 13 claiming that the Masjid-e-Ala was ‘Moodala Bagilu Anjaneya Swami temple’, which the 18th century Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan had destroyed and built a mosque over it.
The group led by C T Manjunath, secretary, demanded that Hindus should be allowed to perform prayers to Hanuman inside the mosque.
Reacting to the incident, Jnanendra said he was aware of the development. And called upon people not to challenge law and order to resolve the dispute on their own.
“If anyone challenges law and order then they will be dealt with accordingly. Hence, everyone should live harmoniously. We will go by the court order,” he added.
In his petition to the deputy commissioner of Mandya, Manjunath said many historians have documented the existence of Moodala Bagilu Anjaneya Swami Temple, which Tipu Sultan had allegedly destroyed during his regime and converted into a mosque.
“The Mysuru Gazzettier by Luis Rice, the proceedings of the royal court, the life of Maharaja, Tareekh-e-Tipu and Hyder-e-Nishani and the letter written by Tipu to the Khalifa of Persia to prove our point.”
“Hence, we request you to please review the documents of the archeology department and make provisions for Hindus to legally offer their prayers to Moodalabagilu Anjaneya Swami Temple (the existing mosque), Manjunath wrote in his petition to the deputy commissioner.
Later, in a video message sent to the media houses, a member of the NMVM demanded that a survey on the lines of Gyanvapi Masjid should be conducted at Masjid-e-Ala to find out the truth.

“Virat, thanks for the kind words. Mike (Hesson), Nikhil, everyone from the franchise who set this up, it’s a really special touch. We had some amazing times together as a team, and the sun has moved on for Chris and I now, but we’re still very much part of the family and will always be.

Bengaluru: Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Tuesday appointed senior BJP MLC Raghunath Rao Malkapure to perform the duties as the Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council until a new person is elected to the post.
The appointment was necessitated as Basavaraj Horatti resigned as Chairman on Monday, and also the post of Deputy Chairman is lying vacant.

Kamra’s ‘doctored’ video of boy singing for PM: NCPCR summons Twitter for not filing action report
Kunal Kamra
New Delhi: The country’s apex child rights body NCPCR has summoned Twitter India’s communications director on Wednesday for not submitting an action taken report against comedian Kunal Kamra for posting a “doctored” video of a boy singing a patriotic song for Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Germany visit earlier this month.
On May 5, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights had sought action against Kamra for tweeting the “doctored” video.
The Commission has now asked Director, Twitter Communications India, to appear on Wednesday with the details of the action taken report.
“A letter in this regard was sent to your good offices dated 05.05.2022 calling for an ATR (action taken report) in the instant complaint within 7 days or receipt of the letter.
“However, no such ATR has been yet received by the Commission,” the NCPCR said in the letter sent on Tuesday.
Kamra had shared the purported video of Modi’s interaction in Germany with the child but he replaced the song that the boy sang — ‘Janmabhoomi Bharat’ — with “Mehengayi daayan khaaye jaat hain”, a Bollywood song about price rise.
Govt allows exporting wheat consignments registered with customs authority prior to ban order
New Delhi: Relaxing norms, the government on Tuesday said it has decided to allow shipments of wheat consignments that were registered with the customs authority before the wheat export ban came into force on May 13.
On May 13, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) issued a notification banning exports of wheat with immediate effect to control price rise.
“It has been decided that wherever wheat consignments have been handed over to Customs for examination and have been registered into their systems on or prior to May 13, such consignments would be allowed to be exported,” the commerce ministry said in a statement.
The government has also allowed a wheat consignment headed for Egypt, which was already under loading at the Kandla port, it said.
The move follows a request by the Egyptian government to permit the wheat cargo that was being loaded at the Kandla port.
Mera International India Pvt Ltd, the company engaged for export of the wheat to Egypt, had also given a representation for completion of loading of 61,500 MT of wheat of which 44,340 MT had already been loaded and only 17,160 MT was left to be loaded, it added.
The government decided to permit the full consignment of 61,500 MT and allowed it to sail from Kandla to Egypt, the ministry said.
The move also comes against the backdrop of reports that thousands of trucks carrying wheat were in the queue outside some ports due to the sudden announcement of wheat export ban.
The government had earlier restricted wheat exports to manage the overall food security situation in India and to support the needs of neighbouring and vulnerable countries that have been adversely affected by the sudden changes in the global market for wheat and unable to access adequate wheat supplies.
As per the order issued on May 13, the restrictions would not apply in cases where prior commitments have been made by private traders through Letter of Credit as well as in situations where permission is granted by the government to other countries to meet their food security needs and on the requests of their governments.
“The order served three main purposes: ensure India’s food security and check inflation, it helps other countries facing food deficit, and it maintains India’s reliability as a supplier,” the ministry said in the statement, adding that the order also aimed to provide a clear direction to the wheat market to prevent hoarding of wheat supplies.
Lankan Parliament defeats no-trust motion against President Gotabaya Rajapaksa
Colombo: A no-confidence motion tabled by the Opposition against Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was defeated in Parliament on Tuesday, in a comfortable win for the embattled President amidst nationwide protests demanding his resignation due to the country’s worst-ever economic crisis.
The motion by Opposition Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP M A Sumanthiran to suspend Parliament’s standing orders in order to debate an expression of displeasure over President Rajapaksa was defeated with 119 MPs voting against it, the Economy Next newspaper reported.
Only 68 MPs voted in favour of the motion, it said, giving the 72-year-old President a comfortable victory.
With the motion, the Opposition sought to demonstrate how nationwide calls for President Rajapaksa’s resignation are reflected in the country’s legislature, the report said.
The main Opposition Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) MP Lakshman Kiriella had supported the motion.
According to SJB MP Harsha de Silva, among those who voted against the motion was Sri Lanka’s newly-elected Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Human rights lawyer Bhavani Fonseka tweeted after the vote that the motion’s defeat exposed MPs who protect President Rajapaksa.
On Tuesday, Parliament met for the first time after the appointment of new Prime Minister Wickremesinghe, as the country looks to undertake major constitutional reforms amid the worst economic crisis.
Sumanthiran, who moved the motion, wanted the standing orders suspended to carry on with the debate.
The government, however, objected to suspending the standing orders. The Speaker then ordered a vote on the question of suspending the standing orders.
The government won the vote and forced the adjournment motion moved on the violence suffered by the ruling party politicians since May 9.
The police on Monday said that some 78 ruling party politicians had suffered damage to properties.
The Opposition said the motion of displeasure could be moved on Friday. Sri Lanka is witnessing an unprecedented economic crisis.
The Rajapaksa government had taken some arbitrary decisions like banning chemical fertiliser imports in favour of organic farming and resisting turning to the International Monetary Fund which led to the country’s worst economic crisis since its independence from Britain in 1948.
A crippling shortage of foreign reserves has led to long queues for fuel, cooking gas and other essentials while power cuts and soaring food prices heaped misery on the people.
The economic uncertainty also triggered a political crisis in Sri Lanka and a demand for the resignation of the powerful Rajapaksas.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa sacked his Cabinet and appointed a younger Cabinet as a response to the demand for his resignation. A continuous protest opposite his secretariat has now gone on for well over a month.
On May 9, Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s elder brother Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned as the prime minister to make way for the president to appoint an interim all political party government. Wickremesinghe was appointed the country’s new prime minister on Thursday.
Omission of lesson on Bhagat Singh from K’taka school textbook insult to martyr: Kejriwal
New Delhi: Hitting out at the BJP government in Karnataka over reports about removal of a lesson on Bhagat Singh from a school textbook, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said it’s an insult to the sacrifice made by the iconic freedom fighter, and demanded a roll back of the decision.
Taking to Twitter, the AAP national convenor said the country will not tolerate such insult of its martyrs, and asked the BJP why “its people” hate Bhagat Singh so much.
Kejriwal’s reaction came a day after some organisations, including All-India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) and All-India Save Education Committee (AISEC), claimed that the Karnataka government has omitted a lesson on freedom fighter Bhagat Singh and included a speech by RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar in a revised Kannada textbook for students of class X.
“Why do BJP people hate Amar Shaheed Sardar Bhagat Singh ji so much? Removal of Sardar Bhagat Singh ji’s name from school books is an insult to the sacrifice of the amar shaheed,” Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi.
“The country will not tolerate such humiliation of its martyrs at all. The BJP government will have to take back this decision,” he added.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) called the removal of the chapter on Bhaghat Singh from the Kannada textbook “shameful” and demanded that the Karnataka government restore the lesson in the school textbook.
“SHAMEFUL. BJP’s Karnataka govt REMOVES chapter on Bhagat Singh ji from School Books. Why does BJP hate Shaheed-E-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh ji so much? BJP must take back this decision. India will not tolerate such humiliation of our freedom fighters,” the party tweeted from its official twitter handle.
Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister B C Nagesh has defended the inclusion of a speech by Hedgewar in a revised Kannada textbook for students of class X.
Nagesh has said the textbook does not contain anything about Hedgewar or RSS, but only his speech on what should be an inspiration to people, especially the youth, and that those who have raised objections have not gone through the textbook.
Raj Thackeray should apologise to North Indians before Ayodhya visit: Union minister Athawale
Union minister Ramdas Athawale
Thane: Union minister and RPI(A) chief Ramdas Athawale has asked MNS head Raj Thackeray to apologise to North Indians before visiting Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh next month.
Talking to reporters on Monday during his visit here, Athawale also said that Maharashtra needs a Brahmin chief minister.
Union minister and senior BJP leader Raosaheb Danve had also earlier this month said he wishes to see a Brahmin community member as the chief minister of Maharashtra, currently headed by Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray.
Recently, BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh opposed Raj Thackeray’s proposed visit to Ayodhya on June 5 and warned that he will not be allowed to enter the Uttar Pradesh city till he tendered a public apology for “humiliating” North Indians.
The MNS, in its initial years, championed the cause of ‘Marathi Manoos’, and had launched an agitation in 2008 during which candidates from North India who arrived at Kalyan near here to take a railway exam were assaulted.
Last month, Raj Thackeray demanded that loudspeakers be removed from mosques in Maharashtra, a stand which the main opposition BJP supported.
Athawale said, “Before going to Ayodhya, Raj Thackeray should apologise to North Indians.”
The RPI(A) leader also said that Maharashtra needs a “Brahmin chief minister”. (Senior BJP leader) Devendra Fadnavis was the right choice for the top post in the state, he claimed.
The Union minister also claimed that the Shiv Sena made a “grave mistake” by aligning with the Congress and NCP to form government in Maharashtra.
Athawale, whose party is a constituent of the NDA government at the Centre, said his outfit will contest the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections in alliance with the BJP, and expressed confidence that they will win the polls and come to power.
