Indian women’s cricket team to play tri-series in Australia in Jan; India to host men’s team

May 7, 2019 by Nasheman

New Delhi, May 7 (UNI) Indian women’s cricket team will play a T20 tri-series in Australia against the host and England in January, Cricket Australia (CA) announced on Tuesday.

The series is scheduled prior to the start of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup ? to be played on Australian soil for the first time, which is slated to begin from February 21, 2020.

According to cricket.com.au, a division of Cricket Australia, CA would honour its commitment to tour India for three-match men’s One Day Internationals (ODIs) in mid-January, which had caused a reshuffle of the home international schedule and pushed back the Chappell-Hadlee series.

CA failed to cut a deal with BCCI to move the three-match ODI series. As a result of this schedule, it will be the first time in 41 years that Australia’s international schedule will stretch into late-March as Australia will host New Zealand for Chappell-Hadlee series in March.

The Black Caps ? who wrap up their Test series in Sydney with the New Year’s Test between January 3 and 7 ? will return to play three ODIs on March 13, 15, and 20.

As per the schedule, during the period, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka’s men’s teams will tour Australia.

“Scheduling international cricket is challenging in that nine of the ten major cricketing countries have seasons similar to ours, so working with them to find space in the calendar to fulfil our obligations to the ICC Future Tours Program (FTP) is a juggling act, the website quoted CA’s Head of Cricket Operations Peter Roach as saying.

“The long-range FTP had three separate limited-overs series scheduled between India, New Zealand and Australia. When the countries started working through the detail, it was clear that there was not enough space for each series at the proposed times,” he added.

During the period, Australia will play 28 international matches across 10 venues that will also include the women’s T20 World Cup.

Brisbane Gabba will host of the opening Test of the summer when Pakistan visit from November 21 for a two-Test series, with points in the forthcoming ICC Test Championship up for grabs for the first time on Australian soil.

Indian Men’s Hockey team leave for Australia tour

May 6, 2019 by Nasheman

Bengaluru, May 6 : The Indian Men’s Hockey Team left for their first tour under newly-appointed Chief Coach Graham Reid on Sunday night from Bengaluru.

The Indian team led by the charismatic midfielder Manpreet Singh will play two matches against Australia A, two matches against Australian National Team and one match against Western Australia Thundersticks club team starting from Wednesday.

Manpreet Singh believes will give the team a chance to further understand Reid’s style and try different combinations ahead of the FIH Men’s Series Finals Bhubaneswar Odisha 2019.

“The new Chief Coach constantly reminds us why a team player holds more value to him than an individual player with excellent skill set. He also instills winning mentality in every player and confident body language has also been an area of focus apart from game-specific tactics over the past three weeks of training under Graham Reid,” Manpreet said.

The team with an interesting mix of experienced players and new comers will be tested ahead of the important FIH Men’s Series Finals Bhubaneswar Odisha 2019 where India needs to finish on top to ensure a place in the Olympic Qualifier in October.

“Playing a world class team like Australia ahead of the important Series in June will only help build our confidence. We had a good tournament in Malaysia in March and some of the youngsters did well there. While Jaskaran Singh will make his International debut, it will be Gursahibjit’s second tournament with the Indian team and Armaan Qureshi is also returning to the team after a long gap. I am confident these players will live up to the expectations. It will be good exposure for them against the World No.2 side,” he added.

CSK take on MI in Qualifier 1

May 6, 2019 by Nasheman

Chennai, May 6 : Defending champions Chennai Super Kings and three time IPL winner Mumbai Indians will look to seal their place on May 12 final as they face other in the qualifier 1 of the ongoing IPL season at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday.
Both teams have won the title three times each and will look to take the prestigious title home for the fourth time after a tough league phase of the ongoing IPL season.
CSK are coming to this match from a six-wicket defeat against KXIP whereas MI had a comprehensive win over KKR in the last match of the league stage on Sunday.
CSK will be happy to return to their den where they have won six of its seven games and will definitely want to take home advantage.
However, MI won’t be worried much as they registered convincing victories over CSK in both home and away matches of the IPL.
CSK’s top-order has been their concern as they haven’t fired consistently. Openers Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis will have to come out all guns blazing against a formidable MI bowling attack and the likes of Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu will be also the key factor in this match.
CSK Skipper Dhoni has been the highest run-getter with 368 runs from 12 matches including 3 fifties and once again he will the centre of attention in this match. However, CSK will miss the services of the Kedar Jadhav, who has been ruled out of the remaining matches due to shoulder injury.
Bowling has been CSK’s strong point so far this season and becomes even more strong on sluggish wicket. The responsibility will be on the young pacer Deepak Chahar to pick up early wickets for hosts who has taken 16 wickets so far in the tournament.
Imran Tahir (21 wickets), the second highest-wicket taker this season after Kagiso Rabada (25), has been at the frontline bowler for CSK , and spin trio including veteran Harbhajan Singh and Ravindra Jadeja (both with 13 wickets each) will try to spin the bowl on slow pitch of Chennai.
On the other hand, MI batsmen including MI captain Rohit Sharma (386 runs), Quinton de Kock (492, third leading run-scorer), Hardik Pandya (380) and Kieron Pollard have been in great form and it will be tough task for CSK’s bowlers to stop them.
In bowling, MI have a formidable attack that includes Jasprit Bumrah (17 wickets), Lasith Malinga (15 wickets), Pandya brothers (Hardik 14 wickets and Krunal 10 wickets), leggie Rahul Chahar (10 wickets) and Mitchell McClenaghan.
The losing team from this match will face the winner of the Eliminator, to be played between Delhi Capitals vs SunRisers Hyderabad, in the Qualifier 2 in Visakhapatnam on Friday.

Heena Sidhu, Ankur Mittal nominated for Rajeev Gandhi Khel Ratna

April 29, 2019 by Nasheman

The national shooting federation Monday recommended pistol ace Heena Sidhu and trap shooter Ankur Mittal for the Rajeev Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, the country’s highest sporting honour.

Anjum Moudgil (rifle), Shahzar Rizvi (pistol) and Om Prakash Mitharwal (pistol) have been nominated for the Arjuna Awards.

The first Indian pistol shooter to reach number one in the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) world rankings, the 29-year-old Sidhu is a multiple gold medallist at the World Cup, Commonwealth Games, Commonwealth and Asian Championships.

She also held the world record in the 10 metre air pistol event with a final score of 203.8.

Mittal has been one of the most consistent Indian shooters in shotgun, having won silver and gold medals at the World Cups in 2017.

The double trap exponent continued his impressive showing the following year, bagging gold medals at the Asian Championships and Commonwealth Championships. He then claimed silver at the ISSF World Shotgun Championship and became the world No 1 in double trap.

Moudgil was the first Indian to secure a quota place in shooting for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics when she won the women’s air rifle silver in style in the World Championship last September.

The 23-year-old Mitharwal was a smashing success in the last World Championship, winning the men’s 50m gold medal in Changwon, Korea.

Having lost his place in the national squad despite winning World Cup gold and silver medals – with a world record to boot – in 2018, Rizvi fought his way back in for the World Cups in Beijing and Munich.
