Mandya, Apr 3 : Stars of Silver Screen are sweating it out in this Sugar District Mandya in Karnataka where film stars Sumalatha Ambareesh is contesting as independent to regain her late husband and former Minister M H Ambareesh’s Lok Sabha seat and despite strong challenge by upcoming filmm actor Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.
Both the candidates are testing their political fortune for the first time.
Sumalatha began her campaign even before filing nominations after being denied ticket by Congress party which had given the Mandya constituency to its coalition partner JDS. BJP has extended its full support to her and has not fielded its candidate, Raitha Sangha. A large number of sandalwood actors including Darshan, Toogudeepa, Yash, Prem among others have already began campaigning for her.
Darshan and Yash were on the road shows in more than 50 villages and they have been received with great response from the fans.
Actor Prem, called ‘Lovely Star’, joined Darshan and participated in hectic electioneering. They were honoured with caps and shawls by Muslim leaders at the Beedi Colony.
Nikhil Kumaraswamy, is also very active in campaigning and attracting crowd. He has the support of almost all the legislators of this constitutency and also has support of both the Coalition partners.
Higher Education Minister G.T. Deve Gowda, K. Annadani, Malavalli legislator, JD(S) MLC Marithibbe Gowda and others accompanied Nikhil during campaign.
While Nikhil sought votes on the achievements of his father-led coalition government, his grandfather Devegowda asked the voters to elect him keeping in mind the development of the constituency.
