It was a planned attack by Nagesh who followed the victim for many days and even purchased few liters of acid from lab a week ago,before splashing half a liter of acid on the victim while she was climbing stairs of her office in Sunkadakatte on April 28.
The accused used a letterhead of a housekeeping company to purchase eight liters of acid citing that he needs to clean the solar panels .
The accused soon after the attack abandoned his bike and took an autorickshaw to reach Hosakote from where he called his family and friend to inform about the incident.
The family advised him to surrender before the police but he had some other plans in his mind,a police officer,said.
Nagesh called the advocate to seek anticipatory bail, but was advised that the process may be delayed .
He even thought of ending life by jumping into the lake,but changed his mind and boarded a bus to Thiruvannamalai and join the ashram to repent, the police said .
After reaching Ramanasri Ashram Nagesh purchased a safron colored rob and started living and even did odd jobs in the ashram to gain the confidence of the management.
Meanwhile several police teams launched massive manhunt and even circulated posters containing the latest picture of Nagesh pasted in public places in southern parts of the city,seeking information on him.
One of the person who identified Nagesh took the picture of Nagesh from his mobile and sent it to police who confirmed from a burn injury at his right hand sustained during the attack.
A team of police posing as devotees rushed to Ashram and watched Nagesh before securing him on Friday.
Nagesh was brought to the city and while being escorted for a spot inspection the accused attacked Head constable,Mahadevaiah and tried to escape.The police opened fire to stop him from fleeing.
Home Minister,Araga Jnanendra appreciated the police effort of arresting Nagesh and assured strict punishment for the accused .
Family members of the victim happy that he has been arrested and ensured strict punishment and sought assurance about the safety and required help from the government.
The staff behind this big catch are ASI,Shivanna and Ravi Kumar Police constable who is ex-servicemen they shared their challenging moments.
ASI Shivanna and Ravikumar are part of 50 member police team as to nab the assailant 10 teams were formed and were sent to different states in search of acid attacker.
ASI Shivanna and Ravikumar told media persons,that they got a tip off from their senior that the accused is hiding somewhere in Tirunavallai in Tamilnadu and they started pasting his posters in public places and religious places by seeing this a local auto rickshaw driver and locals called our senior officers and gave information that the accused is in Ramanashri Ashram.
We asked the local to share his pic and after sharing the pic we noticed burn marks on his hand and then immediately we started removing the posters as by seeing he might get alert so we removed the posters from the area and in and around the Ashram then we entered the Ashram as devotees.
After entering the Ashram we went and sat next to him on both side and we sat doing preaching as religious sage for about one hour and after keeping close watch we secured him and took him into custody.
Serving as ex-servicemen helped in speaking local language and our investigation skill helped us nab this acid attacker as it was very challenging case for us and it is a good experience also to us said ASI, Shivanna and Ravikumar police constable of Magadi Road Police Station.
