Mumbai: Indrani’s husband Peter Mukerjea, who was arrested on Thursday, has been charged with murder in the Sheena Bora murder case.

Peter, who was kept in the office of Special Task Force of CBI, was produced before the magistrate’s court on Friday.

In a fresh twist in the case, the former media magnate was on Thursday arrested by the CBI, hours after it filed a chargesheet in which his wife Indrani Mukherjea, the mother of the victim born from her first marriage, and two others were accused of the crime.

The body of the 24-year-old was dumped in a forest in the neighbouring Raigad district.

Indrani’s condition stable, will remain in hospital for 3 days

October 3, 2015 by Nasheman

Indrani Mukherjea

Mumbai: Former media magnate Indrani Mukerjea, prime accused in the sensational Sheena Bora murder case, is in a semi conscious state and will have to remain for next three days in hospital where she was rushed after suspected drug overdose, a senior doctor said today.

“Indrani is in a semi conscious state and will be under treatment and observation at the hospital for three more days,” T P Lahane, Dean of JJ hospital told PTI this morning.

“Necessary blood and urine tests were carried out and a team of CBI officials was also briefed on her medical condition,” another doctor at the hospital said.

Indrani was rushed to JJ hospital from Arthur-road jail yesterday afternoon in an unconscious condition after she allegedly overdosed on anti-epileptic pills.

Lahane said Indrani’s stomach wash has been collected and will be sent for forensic analysis to conclusively determine if she consumed the drugs.

It is suspected that Indrani went into depression after learning about the demise of her mother in Guwahati on Tuesday.

JJ hospital doctors were given prison records that showed Indrani was taking anti-epilepsy medicines since September 11. “There is a possibility that she collected the pills and consumed them all at once. She came to us in an unconscious state. She has also developed respiratory distress,” the doctor said.

Indrani has been admitted to the critical care unit on the second floor of the hospital.
Indrani, wife of media baron Peter Mukerjea, was arrested by Khar police on August 25 for her alleged role in the murder of Sheena, her daughter from an earlier marriage, in 2012.

Sheena, 24, was allegedly kidnapped from outside National College in Bandra and strangled to death in a car by Indrani, her former second husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered an inquiry into the incident. The probe will cover all angles, including from where she get hold of the pills, a senior official said.

Sheena Bora murder case handed over to CBI

September 18, 2015 by Nasheman

sheena-bora

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Friday decided to hand over the Sheena Bora murder case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in order to ensure a fair and impartial probe.

The announcement was made by state Additional Chief Secretary (Home) K.P. Bakshi.

“For the last few days, since the former Mumbai police commissioner (Rakesh Maria) was replaced by Ahmad Javed, the media have sought to convey the impression that efforts were on to deliberately try and dilly-dally and interfere with the (murder) inquiry,” Bakshi told media persons.

However, when the transfers-cum-promotions took place, Bakshi said he had taken great pains to clarify that there was no connection between the administrative decisions and the particular case.

“I am compelled to say that because of this impression being created by certain sections of the media and based on the report of the DGP (director general of police), we have decided to hand over the case to the CBI,” Bakshi said.

The DGP gave a complete status report on the Sheena murder case and he also commented on what should be done in future, he added.

After lengthy discussions with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and other top police and civil officials, the government decided that not a single state officer should be involved or connected with the investigation.

“We want to give a clear message to the people, and the government has no intention to interfere in the case and we want a complete and impartial investigation. We have been in touch with the centre and the CBI and completed all relevant formalities in the matter,” Bakshi explained.

However, he said it was upto the central government to take a final call on whether to assign the case to the CBI or not, depending on its workload.

Kolkata: A Mumbai police team on Monday escorted Sanjeev Khanna, a co-accused in the sensational Sheena Bora murder case, to Kolkata to unearth more evidence.

Sources said Khanna — the former husband of prime accused Indrani Mukherjea — was brought to the eastern metropolis, where he used to reside prior to his arrest, in the early hours of Monday and taken to various spots where police conducted raids.

Mumbai police officers searched Khannna’s residence in south Kolkata’s posh Hastings area as also his office and the flat of one of his friends.

Businessman Khanna was arrested by Mumbai police here on August 26, a day after Indrani was nabbed in Mumbai for the murder of her daughter Sheena. On August 27, he was taken on transit visa to Mumbai, where he was interrogated.

On September 2, Mumbai police confiscated Khanna’s laptop and finance related papers, in a purported bid to retrace the chats and e-mails between him and Indrani ahead of Sheena’s murder in 2012.

In a bid to ascertain if Khanna’s alleged involvement in the conspiracy was for financial gain, police have studied Khanna’s bank accounts and investment details and took away the papers to Mumbai last week.

Indrani, the wife of former media honcho Peter Mukherjea, and her former driver Shyam Rai, are the other people charged with killing Sheena in 2012 and disposing of her body.

Mumbai: High-profile media entrepreneur Indrani Mukerjea, the main accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, has finally confessed her crime.

However, she has not revealed the motive behind murdering her own daughter from her first husband Siddhartha Das.

Earlier during the interrogation, Indrani had claimed that her daughter Sheena was alive and was in the United States.

Indrani Mukerjea will be in police custody for three more days. Her husband , TV tycoon Peter Mukerjea will be recording his statement with the police by Thursday.

The investigating police officers are also trying to trace the anonymous caller who had informed them about the mysterious murder, as per reports.

Mumbai: Indrani Mukerjea, alleged killer of daughter Sheena Bora, claims that her daughter is alive and is presently residing in the United States.

During interrogation, Indrani, who has been remanded to police custody for killing her daughter, stated that Sheena Bora is not coming forward to unfold the mystery over her death as she dislikes her, as per a report in NDTV.

According to police sources, Indrani Mukerjea is adamant about her statement and is “tough to crack.”

Sheena Bora was allegedly killed by her mother Indrani Mukerjea, step-father Sanjeev Khanna and Indrani’s driver Shyamvar Rai three years back. Her body was burnt and dumped in Raigad.

However, Indrani kept telling her friends and family that Sheena Bora had flown to the US.

Indrani Mukerjea, wife of TV tycoon Peter Mukerjea, had always introduced Sheena and Mekhail, her children from from her previous marriage, as her younger siblings.

Sheena murder: Sanjeev Khanna confesses, Mikhail submits evidence

Mumbai: As investigators waddled through an intriguing web of lies and deceit in the Sheena Bora murder case, Mumbai Police on Friday took Sanjeev Khanna, a prime accused and former husband of co-accused Indrani Mukherjea, to the spot where the young woman was killed three years ago. Khanna later cracked and confessed to his role in the crime.

Police, acting on a court order, permitted Indrani to meet her lawyers while in custody, and officers again questioned former media baron Peter Mukherjea — Indrani’s husband — and the victim’s brother Mikhail, who, after flying into Mumbai from Guwahati, vowed to get justice for his murdered sister.

The probe picked up pace when Khanna, nabbed in Kolkata, was brought here and sent to police custody till August 31.

In a major breakthrough in the murder case, Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria told media persons late on Friday that Khanna has cracked and confessed to his role in the crime.

“(Indrani’s son) Mikhail Bora has submitted some evidence to us. We are in the process of verifying it,” Maria added.

Indrani was arrested on August 25 on charges of killing Sheena on April 24, 2012 along with her driver Shyam Rai and Khanna. She as well as Khanna have denied the charge.

Public Prosecutor Laxman Rathod said police needed to know how Sheena was killed, the vehicle in which she was allegedly murdered before her body was burnt and dumped in the forests near Pen in Raigad district, adjacent to Mumbai.

Seeking custodial interrogation, Rathod said police wanted to take the accused to where Indrani, her driver Shyam Rai and Khanna allegedly poured petrol on Sheena’s body and set it on fire. They also needed to know if more people were involved in the killing.

Khanna has been charged with murder, kidnapping, criminal conspiracy, destroying evidence and more. His mobile phone, laptop and passport have been seized but he has denied the police charges.

Rathod told the media that Khanna played “an active role in the case along with the other two accused”.

According to police, the macabre deed was allegedly executed by Indrani with help from Khanna and driver Rai.

Police are also browsing the details of incriminating telephone call records of Khanna and Indrani, email exchanges, birth certificates, school records and other documents that have emerged during the investigation.

Rakesh Maria is personally conducting the interrogation of various players including Indrani, Khanna, Rai, Peter Mukherjea, his son Rahul, who admits to having had a relationship with Sheena, and Mikhail for the past three days.

Late on Thursday night, Maria said investigators have a fair idea of the motives behind Sheena’s killing.

After interrogation, Maria confirmed that Sheena was indeed the daughter of Indrani, contrary to earlier perceptions that they were siblings.

On Friday afternoon, Khanna was taken to the crime scene near Pen in Raigad district, around 95 km south of Mumbai, to recreate the crime scene.

Maria said skeletal remains of Sheena were recovered from the murder scene and they were being sent for forensic and DNA tests.

Mikhail, who arrived here from Guwahati on Friday, provided certain evidence pertaining to his sister’s killing which was now being verified.

During the investigation, it also came to light that Indrani’s claim of Sheena “studying in the US” was false.

Police have also recovered Sheena’s passport from Dehradun.

Meanwhile, the Sir J.J. Hospital handed over to police the bones, nails and other evidences of Sheena which was deposited by Raigad police after her body was found three years back.

Suggesting a pre-planned conspiracy, police have said Indrani had recceed Pen area with her driver to pick the exact spot to dispose of her body a day before the actual killing.

Mikhail Bora has said he knows the real reason his sister was murdered and that he will reveal it all at the appropriate time.

There are still more angles that need probing, including who was the unknown caller who tipped off Mumbai Police some time ago about the Sheena murder.

Then, there is the mystery of why, after Sheena’s death, letters on her behalf were sent to Mumbai Metro One Pvt. Ltd. – where she worked – and her landlord.

Sheena Bora was strangled to death by Indrani’s ex-husband: Reports

August 28, 2015 by Nasheman

sheena-bora

Mumbai: Indrani Mukerjea’s driver, an accused in Sheena Bora’s murder, has revealed to the Mumbai Police that the victim was strangled to death by her mother’s ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna.

The driver told the investigating officers that Sheena Bora was first forcibly sedated and then strangled to death in the car by Indrani Mukerjea’s ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, as per a report in NDTV.

After this revelation, the Mumbai police will be interrogating Sanjeev Khanna today.

Khanna, who was arrested in Kolkata by the Mumbai Police in connection to Sheena’ murder, had stated that he was sleeping in the car when the victim was murdered.

After murdering Sheena Bora, the murderers had dumped her body about 85 kilometers from Mumbai. Sheena’s face was smashed and her body was burned.

Sheena was in a relationship with Rahul Mukerjea, TV tycoon Peter Mukerjea’s son from his first marriage.

Sheena’s mother Indrani Mukerjea, Peter Mukerjea’s second wife, was against her daughter’s affair with her step-son.

Indrani Mukherjea’s son fears he is the ‘next target’

August 27, 2015 by Nasheman

mikhail-bora

Guwahati: The son of Indrani Mukherjea, main accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, today said he feared for his life and could be the “next target” even as investigators were working to unravel the complexities in the case.

“I fear I’ll be the next target and, if the police summon me to Mumbai, I want my friends to accompany me as the Mukherjeas are very high-profile and anything can happen to me,” Mikhail Bora told reporters outside his grandparents’ house here.

He said the police had not contacted him so far, but if they did, he would cooperate with them in every possible way.

“The police have not contacted me so far but if they come to our house here, I’ll cooperate with them in every possible way to bring out the truth about my sister’s murder,” Bora said even as he hinted that a property angle may also be there in the case.

“If the police come today, I will give evidence to them right away… because she was my elder sister and I want justice for her,” he further said.

As investigators dug deeper into the murder case, a complex web of lies and relationships unravelled and it emerged that the deceased was Indrani’s daughter and not sister, as maintained earlier by her.

Intriguing claims also came to light that Indrani, 43, had introduced her daughter and son — from an earlier marriage to one Siddharth Das — as her sister and brother. After a missing complaint was lodged, Indrani claimed that Sheena had gone to the US for higher studies.

Mikhail also maintained that his mother had wanted him to give her his PAN card and bank details the last time she had come to Guwahati, but he had flatly refused to do so.
He said that he had tried to contact Sheena through his Facebook account but there was no reply. He had also found her mobile phone switched off.

“I asked my mother (Indrani) again and again (about Sheena) every time she called me. She said she (Sheena) was fine and that she was in the US,” Mikhail said.

He, meanwhile, said it would be difficult for him to go to Mumbai to help with the probe into his sister’s murder.

“It will not be possible for me to go to Mumbai for the investigation as I have to take care of my maternal grandparents who are both in their eighties and suffering from dementia,” he said.

He, however, said he could make the journey only if the police or government assured that they would take care of his grandparents, who he said were yet to be told about Sheena’s murder.

Indrani had left Sheena and Mikhail with her parents UK Bora and Durga Rani at their residence here before leaving for Kolkata, where she married Sanjiv Khanna, who has also been arrested for his alleged involvement in the case.

Mikhail had yesterday alleged that he knew the exact reason behind the murder, but would wait till Indrani made a confession to the police before saying anything.

If his mother did not confess, then he would do whatever was necessary, he had said.

Indrani Mukherjea arrested for daughter’s murder in 2012

August 26, 2015 by Nasheman

Indrani Mukherjea

Mumbai: Indrani Mukherjea, wife of former TV honcho Peter Mukherjea, has been arrested in connection with the murder of her daughter in 2012.

Indrani was arrested by Khar Police last night following questioning over her alleged role in the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora in 2012.

Maharashtra’s Raigad police had found remains of Bora in a forest following which a murder case was registered against unidentified persons.

Indrani was produced before the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate court, which remanded her in police custody till August 31, DCP (Detection) Dhananjay Kulkarni said today.

“The case being more than two years old where there isn’t any DNA sample of the deceased or appropriate remains of the body, police is only relying on co-accused’s confession,” an officer at Khar police station, who is part of investigation team, said on the condition on anonymity.

Indrani’s driver, a co-accused who was picked by the police few days back in connection with the murder, too was arrested yesterday.

During interrogation, the driver claimed that Indrani had killed Bora and that he had helped her in disposing of the body by dumping it in the forests of Raigad district, the officer said.

Raigad police had come across remains of an unidentified body, which they had disposed of without collecting DNA samples, the officer said.

Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria had interrogated Indrani at Khar police station yesterday.

The officer said they would take the two accused to the crime spot where the body was dumped.
