HD Kumaraswamy releases 490-page Book on Arkavathy

February 7, 2015 by Nasheman

Kumaraswamy-Book-Arkavathy

Bengaluru: JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy on Friday intensified his attack on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over the Arkavathy Layout land denotification row.

The former chief minister released a 490-page book- Arkavathy Karmakaanda- which presents details of denotification of over 700 acres in the Arkavathy Layout by the Siddaramaiah regime.

He ridiculed Siddaramaiah’s claim that he would have faced contempt proceedings if he had not denotified land in Arkavathy Layout as per six parameters set by both the High Court and Supreme Court. He pointed out that the court had neither used the word “Re-do” nor set any parameters.

Kumaraswamy admitted that his own party MLAs didn’t support its release. He also said he won’t submit the book to the Justice HS Kempanna Commission, which is probing allegations of denotification from 2003 to 2014. “I will neither approach the commission nor any court. I will upload its contents on the JD(S) party website and go before the people’s court,” he said.

Kumaraswamy said he came out with the book fearing that he would not get enough time on the floor of the House to discuss the issue.

Booklet on Arkavathi to 'expose' CM: H D Kumaraswamy

February 3, 2015 by Nasheman

H D Kumaraswamy

Bengaluru: A booklet on the illegalities of Arkavathi Layout aimed to expose the Congress government will be released soon, said JD (S) leader H D Kumaraswamy.

The booklet has been prepared based on 7,000 pages of official documents which clearly suggest that CM Siddaramaiah himself had signed the documents pertaining to the land deletion, Kumarswamy said.

The booklets will be distributed to all the members of the Assembly during the ongoing session, he added.

When asked why the documents were not submitted to the Justice H S Kempanna Commission, Kumaraswamy said a scam of this magnitude has to be handed over to CBI for inquiry.

New Delhi: Leaders of the Janata Parivar raised the issue of black money both inside and outside parliament Monday, hitting out at the NDA government for failing to fulfil its promise of bringing back illegal cash stashed abroad. They also accused it of fomenting communal tensions.

Political heavyweights from the Janata Parivar, comprising the Samajwadi Party, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) and the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) gathered in the Jantar Mantar area in the heart of the capital to address a rally denouncing the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.

“Why has the NDA government failed to fulfil its promises made before the (Lok Sabha) election?” asked JD-U leader Nitish Kumar.

“Where is the black money it promised to bring back (from abroad)?”

“The prime minister has campaigned across the nation. He had said that he would bring back black money; what happened to the promises he made? They are spending money on religious conversions, they made false promises during poll campaign, and now they are diverting people’s attention,” said the former Bihar chief minister.

He accused Modi of not acting tough against right-wing Hindu groups charged with religious conversion of Christians and Muslims and said the country should not be divided on religious grounds.

Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Prasad were equally critical.

Mulayam Singh said: “They promised jobs to all the youth and Rs.15 lakh to everyone (from the black money they would bring back). They even asked people to open bank accounts. But where is the money?”

“The BJP’s conspiracy is to engineer riots so that attention is shifted away from the government’s failures,” said the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister.

“The Agra incident was just a beginning. They will do such things across the country,” Mulayam Singh said, referring to the conversion of 300 Muslims families in his state.

Lalu Prasad alleged that Modi was attempting to cause religious divide in the country by tacitly encouraging religious conversions.

“The minorities have also fought for India’s independence and the Modi government engages in ‘ghar vapsi’ (home-coming),” he said.

JD-U chief Sharad Yadav said: “Janata Parivar is protesting at the venue (Jantar Mantar) against the government over black money. You promised good days, employment”.

The issue was raised again in both houses by members of these parties. In the Lok Sabha, they also staged a walkout over the issue. Members of the Samajwadi Party and the Trinamool Congress also held protests in the parliament premises.

In the lower house, Mulayam Singh accused the government and Prime Minister Modi of not fulfilling the promises made to people who voted him to power.

Members of the RJD and the JD-U also demanded a statement from the prime minister over the issue.

The SP chief said promises were made that farmers would get money in their accounts and that land encroached by China and Pakistan would be taken back. But “these promises have not been fulfilled”.

Both houses of parliament have debated the issue of black money during the winter session.

JD(S) pushes for all-party meeting on north Karnataka

December 6, 2014 by Nasheman

JDS

Dharwad: Member of Legislative Council and former minister Basavaraj Horatti has urged the leader of opposition in Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar to call for an all-party meeting before the winter session of Legislature commences in Belagavi from December 9.

Speaking to media persons at Dharwad on Friday, Horatti said the session to be held this month at Suvarna Vidhan Soudha should focus on the issues haunting the people of north Karnataka and come up with a concrete plan to correct the regional imbalance.

He asserted that Shettar should call for an all-party meeting in Hubballi to raise the issue in both the Houses (upper and lower) and exert pressure on the state government to fulfill the demands of the people here.

At the meeting, elected representatives can come up with suggestions and the problems haunting their region and accordingly, the matter could be placed before the Houses.

On shifting the Secretariat from Bengaluru to Suvarna Vidhana Soudha (SVS) in Belagavi, Horatti stated there were 13 meeting halls in SVS to hold House committee meeting. Meeting could be held in just two to three halls and the remaining 10 halls could be used as offices of various departments. The basement of the SVS, too, is well furnished and even this could be used as offices, he noted.

All the 96 MLAs from north Karnataka region have to cut across party affiliations and unanimously raise their voice for the development of this region, he said. Horatti added he was ready to take up the leadership of holding the all-party meeting, if Shettar failed to respond.

Bengaluru: Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda on Thursday announced appointment of his son H D Kumaraswamy as President of the JDS state unit, even as he acknowledged there was a need to dispel the impression that his was a “father-son party.”

Gowda, who has come under constant attack over his family maintaining a stranglehold over JDS, defended the appointment of Kumaraswamy, a former Chief Minister who is under pressure in recent weeks to play a more active role.

It was a “big tragedy” that JDS was being labelled “father-son party” in Karnataka, Gowda said.

“Aren’t father and their children in the same party in other states?, the JDS chief asked.” If Mamata Banerjee (West Bengal Chief Minister) and Mayawati (BSP leader) had children, what would they have done?, he said, hitting back at the detractors who accuse him of promoting dynastic politics.

The state unit president’s post was lying vacant for the past seven months following the death of A Krishnappa due to heart attack on April 23. He was party candidate for Tumkur Lok Sabha seat. The backward classes leader had assumed the charge in September last year.

The decision to appoint Kumaraswamy was taken at a high-level meeting of party state office-bearers, legislators, district unit presidents and former legislators held here in which Gowda took part.

This is not the first time Kumaraswamy is holding the post. He was appointed as the JDS president in 2008 after the death of Meerajuddin Patel.

Kumaraswamy had quit the post following the party’s defeat in last year’s August 21 bypolls to Bengaluru Rural and Mandya Lok Sabha seats, considered the party’s bastion.

Gowda also announced apointments of Mahantesh Patil and Amarnath Shetty as Vice Presidents, Sharada Purya Nayak, Dinakar Shetty (Gneral Secretaries) and Meenakshi Naneesh and Dr Riaz Farooq (Secretaries).

Assuming the charge, Kumraswamy said he would make all efforts to build the party and take up farmers’ issues.

In 2013, he resigned from the Lok Sabha after winning election to the Karnataka Assembly in which his party emerged the second largest in terms of vote share percentage.

Bengaluru: Former JD(S) Member of Legislative Council Abdul Azeem and Yoga Ramesh, who had contested unsuccessfully from Arkalgund Assembly constituency as an independent candidate, joined BJP along with their supporters in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

BJP senior leaders Pralhad Joshi, B S Yeddyurappa and Jagadish Shettar were among those present during the induction programme.

There was commotion inside the party office for nearly an hour as the supporters of Azeem and Ramesh, who had gathered in large numbers, refused to vacate the hall meant for briefing the media.

Azeem said that he had joined the BJP impressed by the policies and programmes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He blamed Congress for wedging a divide between Hindus and Muslims for political gains.

“I will bring at least 50 per cent Muslims into the party by removing the misconception Congress has spread among the community about the BJP,” he said.

BJP State President Pralhad Joshi said with Azeem joining the party it had shattered the myth that minorities were against the party.

Former ministers Suresh Kumar and V Somanna will also submit an internal report compiled by them on the irregularities in Arkavathi Layout denotification to Joshi on Thursday.
