Kohli powers Bangalore to challenging total : IPL

April 30, 2018 by Nasheman

A good opening stand followed by skipper Virat Kohli’s unbeaten half-century helped Royal Challengers Bangalore to post 175/4 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) tie here on Sunday.

Kohli’s unbeaten 68-run knock came off 44 balls, containing five boundaries and three sixes at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Put into bat, Bangalore started on a cautious note as openers Quinton de Kock (29 off 27) and Brendon McCullum (38 off 28) shared a 67-run partnership for the first wicket.

KKR spinner Kuldeep Yadav came up with the first breakthrough as he packed de Kock in the ninth over.

With the addition of just seven runs in Bangalore’s overall score of 67, Andre Russel jolted the hosts after dismissing McCullum and Manan Vohra (0) in the next over.

However, Kohli kept one end tight and added 65 runs for the fourth wicket with Mandeep Singh (19).

Mandeep however, didn’t show a fight and was dismissed on a Russel delivery in the 18th over with Bangalore’s score reading 140/4.

Kohli continued his good work and slammed yet another half-century and some fireworks by him in the final moments helped the hosts reach a respectable total of 175/4.

For Kolkata, Russel was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/31 while Kuldeep scalped a wicket for 20 runs.

Brief Scores: Royal Challengers Bangalore: 175/4 (Virat Kohli 68, Brendon McCullum 38; Andre Russell 3/31) vs KKR.

Modi government taking credit for our work on electrification: Congress

April 30, 2018 by Nasheman

Countering Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s claim that all villages in India have been connected with electricity under his rule, Congress on Sunday said the government was celebrating inefficiencies and taking credit for the work done by UPA government.

“Dear Amit Shahji, India has 6,49,867 villages. Congress connected 97 per cent with electricity. During UPA (2004-14), Congress electrified 1,07,600 villages.

“In 60 years, Congress average is electrifying 10,000 villages per year. Congress created #PowerfulIndia but didn’t boast,” said Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala in a tweet directed to the BJP President.

“Dear Modiji/Piyushji (Railway minister Piyush Goyal), on May 26, 2014, only 18,452 villages were without electrification.

“BJP government took 46 months to complete this at at an average of 4,813 villages per year. This is – ‘celebrating inefficiencies’ and taking ‘fake credit’ for Congress work,” he said in further tweets.

Modi on Sunday announced that all villages in India have now been connected with electricity.

“Electricity reached all Indian villages on Saturday.

“Yesterday, we fulfilled a commitment due to which the lives of several Indians will be transformed forever!” Modi said in a series of tweets.

Doctor shot at in Delhi, suspects brothers behind attack

April 30, 2018 by Nasheman

A doctor received four gunshot injuries early on Sunday when four unidentified assailants fired at him near his farmhouse in south Delhi, police said.

Police said the victim Hans Nagar suspected his two brothers were behind the murderous attack.

Hans Nagar had reached near the entrance to his farmhouse in Fatehpuri Beri from his clinic in south Delhi’s Siri Fort area around 1.50 a.m. when four unidentified attackers riding two motorcycles stopped nearby and fired more than a dozen rounds at him.

Nagar claimed he also fired from his licensed pistol and injured one-two attackers, Deputy Commissioner of Police Romil Baaniya said.

Nagar’s security staff called police and the orthopaedic doctor was taken to a private hospital in Gurugram. He is undergoing treatment.

“Nagar told police he suspected his brothers John and Ron and four others were behind the attack due to longstanding dispute over Gurugram property,” the officer said.

As many as 22 spent cartridges and two rounds of 9 mm and .32 bore pistols were seized from the spot.

He said some suspects have been detained and CCTV footage from the area scanned to identify the suspects, who were suspected to be hired criminals.

Constitutional posts must be respected: Rajnath Singh

April 30, 2018 by Nasheman

Home Minister Rajnath Singh said today that constitutional posts must be respected and their propriety should not be questioned, amid a raging debate over a demand by a few opposition parties led by the Congress to impeach Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra. Singh said Congress president Rahul Gandhi is doing politics over “non-issues”.

“By levelling these allegations, people cannot be misled. Issue-based politics should be done. This is a result of Rahul Gandhi’s disappointment as he has no issue (to talk on),” he said. “Our government gives full respect to constitutional posts and their jurisdictions. We must respect their decisions,” he said in response to a question by a reporter.

Singh’s reaction came in the backdrop of a notice submitted to Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu on April 20 by seven opposition parties led by the Congress to impeach CJI Misra. The unprecedented petition against a sitting chief justice had listed five allegations of “misbehaviour”.

On April 23, Naidu rejected the notice, saying the petition lacked “substantial merit”. He had held consultations with legal and constitutional experts before taking the decision. The Union home minister, who was in Mirzapur to attend a wedding, also said that India’s relations with China “is moving in the right direction” and Beijing has assured full cooperation.

“Hence, the preparations going on in areas bordering China will continue,” Singh said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned from China yesterday after holding their first-ever informal meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The meeting has raised hopes of bilateral relation improving following tensions on a host of issues, including the Doklam military standoff last year.

On the Kashmir issue, Singh said the “military action in Kashmir is moving in the right direction and we will continue with this action”. “We do not believe in expansionist policy and there is no change in our Kashmir policy.

India has chance to re-emerge as global powerhouse of education: Naidu

April 30, 2018 by Nasheman

Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu today said the nation has a chance to re-emerge as a global powerhouse in the field of education, but for that changes in syllabus and improvement in infrastructure are needed. Inaugurating the new campus of the Central University of Kerala at nearby Periye and dedicating it to the nation, he said India was once known as ‘vishwaguru’ and people from across the globe used to come here to study and acquire knowledge and expertise in different domains.

“However, the situation changed following foreign invasions and the British rule, and India lost its pre-eminent position in the field of education,” Naidu said. The vice president said all higher educational institutes, including central universities, have the onerous responsibility of transforming the country into the epicenter of knowledge and innovation.

“Today, the country has a chance to re-emerge as a global powerhouse in the field of education. But this requires reorienting the syllabus and improving infrastructure in the education sector with the sole objective of imparting world class quality education,” Naidu said. He said though there are more than 800 universities in India, none of them figure in the top-ranking educational institutes in the world.

“We cannot adopt a ‘business as usual’ approach if we want to change the situation”, the vice president said, adding, “From private educational institutions to central universities and academic organisations, all must work in a mission mode to revamp the educational architecture in tune with the requirements of the 21st century to make India a leading nation education and innovation.”

Naidu said though India has the third largest higher education system in the world, its Gross Enrolment Ratio was only 25.2 percent. Considering the huge demographic dividend the country was blessed with, it was imperative that the higher education system be expanded qualitatively and quantitatively for the betterment of the nation and society, he said.

13Yr old girl raped from niece lover.

April 30, 2018 by Nasheman

In a horrific and shameful act, a woman forced her 13-year-old niece to get drunk after which she allowed her boyfriend to rape the child in a forested area in outer Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy on Sunday night.

The 30-year-old woman has been arrested while her boyfriend, the alleged rapist, Mukesh Kumar is on the run,

The woman, the child’s aunt, used to look after the family as the girl’s mother had left her and her father.

According to the police, the woman allegedly lured the girl to her home before walking her to a forested area nearby. Mukesh was waiting there in his mini truck.

“The woman tried to trick the girl into drinking alcohol by mixing it with soft drinks. When the girl refused to drink, her aunt forced her. The woman and Mukesh too were drinking,” an investigator was quoted as saying by media.

The officer said, Mukesh raped the girl once she was in an inebriated state with the woman staying around when the crime was being committed.

He added that the woman knew of rape and that the police suspect it to be pre-planned.

As a result, IPC section pertaining to criminal conspiracy was added to the case.

The incident came to light, when the girl’s father saw her bleeding and in pain on Monday. She was rushed to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital where the doctors told that she had been raped.

Rajneesh Gupta, deputy commissioner of police (Rohini) said a case has been registered under Indian Penal Code sections 376 (rape), 328 (causing hurt by intoxicating substance with intent to commit an offence), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120B (criminal conspiracy). The duo has also been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

This incident took place on the day when President Ram Nath Kovind promulgated an ordinance to pave way for providing stringent punishment, including death penalty, for those convicted of raping girls below the age of 12 years.

The Union Cabinet on Saturday approved the ordinance to allow courts to award death penalty to those convicted of raping girls under 12 years.

In case of rape of a girl under 16 years, the minimum punishment was increased from 10 years to 20 years, extendable to imprisonment for rest of life, which means jail term till the convict’s “natural life”.

The ordinance gained significance in the wake of huge outrage over Kathua and Unnao rape cases.

Death Penalty for raping a minor

April 30, 2018 by Nasheman

City court awarded death penalty to a man who was convicted of raping and murdering a six-year-old girl on April 20, 2017.

The same is awaiting confirmation by the high court.

The accused Anil Balagar (35) has been convicted for raping and murdering a six-year-old girl at his residence.

Judge M Lathakumari awarded death penalty to Anil for killing the child and 10 years rigorous imprisonment for raping her, apart from slapping a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.

It has been reported that, “The girl was playing outside her grandfather’s home, which is opposite Balagar’s house. She went missing at 6.15pm and attempts to find her went in vain. Around 8pm, Balagar informed people that he had to leave for his native place,” public prosecutor Channa Venkataramanappa said. He said the convict’s mobile was switched off soon after he left and that the family didn’t find the girl, and lodged a missing complaint. “Three days later, foul smell emanating from Balagar’s house caught the attention of neighbours. On breaking it open, police found the girl’s body,” he said, adding that the judgment has no connection with the recent ordinance passed by the Centre that allows death penalty for those who rape minors.
