BJP was the worst administration in the history of Karnataka, says P.Chidambaram

May 9, 2018 by Nasheman

Congress leader and former union finance minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday May 9 appealed to the people of Mangaluru to vote for Congress, and said that the previous state government under BJP was the worst administration in the history of Karnataka.

Addressing a press meet here, Chidambaram said, “During BJP’s term, they changed the chief minister thrice. Their administration was the worst in the history of Karnataka. They have no achievements to boast of, so now they are attacking chief minister Siddaramaiah. My question is, why are they not campaigning based on their achievements?

“RSS and BJP are trying to impose autocratic rule in the nation. Their main aim is to convert India into Hindu nation, destroy the federal system, impose the ideology of one history, one religion, one language and one living style. It is dangerous to our Indian culture, to our hallmark of unity in diversity. So we should all stop them,” he said.

“They (BJP) are trying to enter South India through Karnataka. It is a danger signal for the diversity of South India,” he added.

Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, “The Prime Minister should maintain the dignity of his post. Every single statement regarding field marshal Cariappa and Gen Thimayya that he made was wrong. He should not do this. He should not speak whatever comes to his mind like a third-rate BJP spokesperson.”

He further said, “Petrol and diesel should be brought under GST. But the Modi government is not doing this because it wants to loot the people. Indial Oil Corporation chairman says people are panicking over hike of fuel prices, so we put a break on price hike for a short time. I want to say, why he is not saying ‘Modi ordered me put on hold the daily price hike on petroleum products for Karnataka election’? People are already in panic because of price hikes. The fuel prices should be decreased. What is the benefit in putting hike on hold for a few days?”

Urging people to vote for the Congress, he said, “I appeal to the people of Karnataka to vote for the Congress for a stable government. The entire nation is looking at Karnataka elections eagerly. Clear majority and stable government only can sustain developmental works. Last five years the GDP of Karnataka increased from Rs 6,43,292 crore to Rs 9,49,111 crore, recording an 8% growth. The per capita income has increased by 1.25% in five years of Congress rule, and the revenue surplus is 0.8% which is a record in entire India. Karnataka has the lowest unemployment rate of 2.6%. Infant morality rate has reduced, electricity has reached villages. All this have happened under the stable government led by the Congress. Development and welfare programmes go hand-in-hand under the Siddaramaiah-led government. Siddaramaiah is the first Karnataka CM to have completed full 5-year term after Devaraj Urs.”

Suresh Shetty, AICC observer, Harish Kumar, district Congress president, Jaigeer, spokesperson, and Ibrahim Kodijal were present.

BJP Govt is selling Kashmir for electoral gains: Swami Agnivesh

May 9, 2018 by Nasheman

Hindu religious scholar and renowned civil society member, Swami Agnivesh has said that BJP government at the Centre is ‘selling’ Kashmir for electoral benefits across India.
“Kashmir is a cash crop for BJP government. It is selling Kashmir to get votes in different states of India. It knows that Kashmir and Pakistan bashing will fetch votes and it has succeeded in its plans so far,” Agnivesh told Hindusthan Samachar in response to a question why New Delhi is reluctant to hold a dialogue with all stake-holders of Jammu and Kashmir.
Agnivesh alleged that BJP led Central Government will never encourage dialogue with Pakistan as it wants to keep the pot boiling.
“It was a welcome development that Pakistani Army General himself advocated dialogue with India, but as expected present Indian dispensation showed a cold response. Once BJP will start dialogue with Pakistan, it can’t attack Pakistan and mention Kashmir during election rallies and it can’t befool people and exploit them in the name of Kashmir and it even can’t sell soldiers services to nation,” Agnivesh told HS in a telephonic conversation from New Delhi.
Expressing deep anguish over unabated civilian killings in Kashmir, Agnivesh said that if Mehbooba feels that BJP is ditching her and is not interested in dialogue over Kashmir issue, then she should resign.
“Mehbooba should not keep people in dark. If she is honest and feels the pain of people of Kashmir, then at this juncture she should support and stand for them,” he said adding that BJP knows it well that anti-Muslim and anti-Kashmir agenda suits their party.
Demanding stringent punishment for those responsible for civilian killings, Swami Agnivesh said that it is unfortunate that probes are being conducted just to hoodwink the people.
“It was a good move when Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman assured full support to Mehbooba Mufti against those soldiers who killed two youth in Shopian in January this year, but nothing later happened and everything turned out to be lip service.”
Swami Agnivesh said that civilian killings can’t be tolerated. “The violence that has escalated in Kashmir can stop only through a sustained and meaningful dialogue process,” he added.

JD(S) will emerge as single largest party – G T Deve Gowda

May 9, 2018 by Nasheman

G.T. Deve Gowda is a prominent Vokkaliga leader in Mysuru district and a loyal supporter of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and Janata Dal (Secular) State President H.D. Kumaraswamy. He is known as a grassroots politician who worked his way up the ladder and represented Hunsur and Chamundeshwari candidates as a nominee of the JD(S). He is confident that he will emerge as a “giant killer” in the polls, due to the prevailing anger against the Siddaramaiah government.

The Chamundeshwari constituency is the battle ground for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and H.D. Kumaraswamy, where Mr. Gowda is the central pivot. He says that the people of the constituency are disappointed with the CM since he had neglected it for the past 10 years, and now, makes half-baked promises of development during the elections. He thinks that Chamundeshwari was the factor which propelled Mr. Siddaramaiah from being an ordinary MLA to becoming the CM. In spite of this, the CM has not done anything for the people of Chamundehswari.

He attributed his grassroots cooperative activism to keeping in touch with the interest of the masses, by touring the constituencies and cultivating the confidence of the voters. Mr. Siddaramaiah, he felt in contrast, was aloof and detached in his campaigns. Mr. Gowda opines that his personal appeal will transcend boundaries of caste in the polarised place that is Chamundeshwari.

The constituency has 2.9 lakh voters, a third of whom are urbane citizens. Though it is difficult to predict the victory in the segment, there is a shared opinion that its outcome will decide which party comes to power in the State.

EC Siezed 9,746 voter IDs from flat in Bangalore

May 9, 2018 by Nasheman

The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday documented a First Information Report (FIR) on discovering counterfoils and 9,746 voters ID cards in the Rajarajeshwari Nagar.

The state’s Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar said on late Tuesday night “An FIR is being enrolled after almost 9,746 voter cards were found in a flat in Rajarajeshwari Nagar constituency alongside around one lakh counterfoils looking like acknowledgment slips utilized for expansion of names into electoral rolls were discovered,”

On investigation, the voter cards were observed to be genuine, while the counterfoils were to be checked through examination, Kumar said. Five workstations and one printer were additionally found in the loft, he included.

“Further investigation will be directed into the issue and will be nearly checked by the EC,” he said.

Three eyewitnesses from the poll pane visiting the flat in the constituency, which has a total of 4,35,439 voters, Kumar said.

Alongside Kumar, the District Election Officer and the city’s municipal body Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao, the city Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar had visited the area where the voter cards were found.

The representative of the Congress party Randeep Singh Surjewala claimed that the flat where the voter IDs were discovered had a place with a BJP leader.

“BJP instituted this show in a flat having a place with their own leader Manjula Nanjamari. She has leased the flat to her son who challenged the 2015 BBMP (Bengaluru urban body) elections on a BJP ticket. The flat was raided not by police or EC but rather by BJP workers,” Surjewala affirmed.

Union Human Resource Development Minister and the gathering’s in-control for state surveys Prakash Javadekar said in a tweet “The BJP requests rescinding of elections in Rajarajeshwari Nagar in light of most recent disclosures of a huge number of fake voter IDs and discharge parcels of hard cash. This is Congress intrigue to fix decision even with their unavoidable annihilation,”

Going is tough for Congress in some Mysuru district constituencies

May 9, 2018 by Nasheman

There may not be an action replay in one urban constituency in this district, Narasimharaja. Electing one Muslim family five years ago and nine times earlier it may not go for it this year.

Moving fast backward, it may opt for another Muslim candidate who was a runner-up in the previous poll. Abdul Majeed was defeated in 2013 by only 9,000 votes.

Mainly because of it, Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), which is the political wing of the Kerala-based Popular Front of India, has fielded him again.

It is not the only bad news for the Sait family which has won the seat ten times — six times by Azeez Sait and four times by his son, Tanveer. The family has hit the headlines for attack by its supporter on a media person.

Correspondent of a national English daily has filed a police complaint saying that he was manhandled by his suppoters in the city when he was collecting some information.

The family has apologised but the case has not been withdrawn. An inquiry, therefore, is being made. Further action will be taken in the light of inquiry report.

Some journalist bodies have now joined the fight.

There has been one more complaint to the police. The complainant in the second case is the Congress, the party Sait belongs to. The party has complained against the SDPI candidate, Mazeed, for pinning state chief minister Siddaramaiah picture on his lapel and allegedly telling the people that he has got his “blessings”.

Since this action can confuse Congress supporters the party has lodged a complaint against him.

The constituency has been a Congress bastion. The BJP has won it only once in 1994, that too with a small margin. The other major contestant here is JDS.

Interestingly, the Samajwadi Party, which has parted company with the Congress as well as the Bahujan Samaj Party, in Karnataka, has fielded 31 candidates in the state including one in this constituency. It is not a major force in the southern region.

It is the second party, after the BJP, which has put up a Hindu candidate in this Muslim-dominated constituency.

A member of the family, Azeez Sait, was first elected from this seat in 1967. He was re-elected in next poll. Azeez bagged the seat four more times, representing the constituency for 30 years.

His son Tanveer who is seeking re-election has been already elected four times and is sure of victory again (fifth time).

The BJP strategy this time seems to be to polarise Hindu votes. For this purpose it has put up a Hindu candidate, Sandesh Swamy. As its rivals have put up Muslim candidates, a consolidation of Hindu votes may help the party.

The Congress, for all these reasons, is having a tough time in this constituency. The going is not easy for the party in some others including Krishnaraja. Under the circumstances, it is unlikely to repeat its 2013 performance and bag eight out of eleven seats in the district.

Microsoft in motion to secure billions of connected ‘Edge’ devices

May 9, 2018 by Nasheman

As the world prepares to see billions of connected devices in the next few years, Microsoft is busy creating a right mix of first responders — putting a robust Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in place to safeguard Cloud-powered “Edge” devices against cyber attacks, a top company executive has emphasised.

The company expects 20 billion connected devices globally by 2020.

While “Intelligent Cloud”, “Intelligent Edge” and the Internet of Things (IoT) present enormous opportunities, the ever-growing threat of hackers breaking into those devices — be in office or at home — is for real.

The “Edge” broadly means when end users interact with Cloud, such devices can be anything — from drones to PCs, from smartphones to cameras, from refrigerators to TVs and so on.

“We see attacks coming from all sides — via passwords, emails, spam, malicious links or websites and so on — targeting millions of end-point devices and Cloud infrastructure at any given point of time.

“What sets us apart from the others are our AI algorithms and a full-time team of 35,000 engineers — working round-the-clock to spot bad actors, analyse and mitigate those. They are our first responders to cyber threats,” Julia White, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Azure, told IANS.

Microsoft uses advanced analytics — processing more than 450 billion authentications per month, scanning 400 billion emails for malware and phishing and updating one billion devices — to deliver actionable insights.

The company’s “Intelligent Security Graph” takes advantage of advanced analytics that link a massive amount of threat intelligence and security data to provide insights that can strengthen security.

“With the ‘Intelligence Security Graph’, we can see wide range of attacks and build better AI models to find anomalies and secure our customers who are constantly asking for enhanced experiences with devices and Azure Cloud,” she informed on the sidelines of the “Build 2018” Developers’ Conference here.

Microsoft spends over $1 billion every year on cyber safety and security-related research and development.

When it comes to Cloud security, Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) is another service that provides a secure solution for an organisation via stronger identity management and single sign-on (SSO) access to thousands of Cloud-based and on-premises apps.

The company last month announced to invest $5 billion in IoT over the next four years.

“IoT is ultimately going to be the new ‘Intelligent Edge’. With our IoT platform spanning Cloud, OS and devices, we are uniquely positioned to simplify the IoT journey so the customer can create trusted, connected solutions,” White noted.

The company’s “Azure IoT Edge” service delivers Cloud intelligence locally in a country by deploying and running AI, Azure services, and custom logic directly on cross-platform IoT devices.

“There are so many ‘Edge’ devices now that we have open-sourced ‘Azure IoT Edge’ for the developers’ community. It will allow customers to modify, debug and have more transparency and control for ‘Edge’ applications,” White elaborated.

To help enterprises secure their data and networks against growing cyber attacks, Microsoft recently introduced “Azure Sphere”, an industry-first platform to create secured, connected micro-controller unit (MCU) devices on the “Intelligent Edge”.

MCU-powered devices are the most populous area of computing, with roughly nine billion new devices being introduced every year. MCUs are found in everything — from toys and household appliances to industrial equipments.

“We’re now seeing the kind of increased adoption and exponential growth that analysts have been forecasting for years, and we’re just getting started. This effect will be pervasive, from connected homes and cars to manufacturers to smart cities and utilities — and everything in between,” White stressed.

“We will continue research and development in key areas, including securing IoT, creating development tools and intelligent services for IoT and the ‘Edge,'” she added.

Lalu gets parole, to attend son’s marriage

May 9, 2018 by Nasheman

Jailed RJD chief Lalu Prasad on Wednesday secured five days parole to attend his elder son’s marriage in Patna on May 12.

The parole was granted following consultations between the jail administration and the Home Department. Lalu Prasad had sought five days parole to attend Tej Pratap’s wedding.

The former Bihar Chief Minister is being treated at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here after he was brought here from the AIIMS in New Delhi on May 1.

He is likely to leave for Patna by air on Wednesday evening.

The RJD leader has been convicted in four fodder scam cases since 2013 — the latest being the Dumka treasury case in which a CBI court sentenced him to 14 years in jail.
