FIR filed against Kannada news channel for reporting false news.

November 29, 2018 by Nasheman

Janata Dal (Secular) party's Bengaluru unit has registered an FIR against the TV channel for falsely reporting the news of CM Kumaraswamy resigning.
Kannada television news channel TV5’s claims that Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy is set to resign from his position has seen the TV channel come under fire. While Kumaraswamy denied the report calling ‘far from the truth’, his supporters marched to the channel’s head office in Bengaluru and pelted stones/

Now, the Janata Dal (Secular) party’s Bengaluru unit President R Prakash has registered a complaint against the TV channel for false reporting. In his complaint, Prakash has named Dasharath, a reporter with TV5 and the Chief Editor of the news channel. “This false news was published continuously since 6 pm. Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy toured Hassan and Mysuru on November 28 and took part in several events. CM Kumaraswamy is healthy and has been carrying out his day to day activities. He works for 14 to 16 hours a day. However, TV5 Kannada’s reporter Dasharath has falsely reported that Kumaraswamy is suffering from health problems, and is trying to create panic among the residents of Karnataka and unnecessarily cause them worry,” reads the complaint

The complaint further goes on to add that the story threatened to cause law and order problems in the state. “The Chief Minister’s office is a very important one for every state and by spreading such false news, it will disturb the peace in society and cause law and order problems. By creating a black spot in Kumaraswamy’s career, this false news has also maligned the reputation of our party (Janata Dal Secular). We suspect that there is an ulterior motive behind the propagation of this false news. We thereby request you to take appropriate action against the TV5 reporter and editor in chief who allowed such news to be published in the channel,” it added.

An FIR was registered at the High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy to commit an offence), 153 (wantonly giving provocation with the intent to provoke a riot), and 505 (statements conducting public mischief).

After the report was aired, protests broke out against the TV channel. The protests were held by JD(S) party workers prompting CM Kumaraswamy to issue a clarification and appeal to his party workers to stop their protests.

India’s ‘no’ to talks with Pakistan is self-defeatist: CPI-M

November 29, 2018 by Nasheman

The Modi government’s refusal to have talks with Pakistan betrays its “contradictory and self-defeating stand” vis-a-vis Islamabad and is dictated “by its communal agenda within the country”, the CPI-M has said.

“What is required is resumption of the comprehensive dialogue while maintaining a firm stance on tackling terrorism,” said an editorial in the CPI-M journal “People’s Democracy”.

“With its blinkered approach to relations with Pakistan which are dictated by its communal agenda within the country, the Modi government is constricting its scope for strategic autonomy,” the Communist Party of India-Marxist said.

“Whether it is Afghanistan or South Asia regional cooperation, India cannot play a positive role given its confrontationist stance towards Pakistan.

“Such a position does not only affect our external policy but also will have harmful repercussions internally – the worsening situation in Kashmir and the revival of extremism in Punjab are the two obvious pointers,” the editorial said.

The CPI-M hailed the decision to open a corridor from India to the Gurudwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur in Pakistan as “one of the rare instances when the governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to cooperate after a long period of stalemate and tensions”.

The corridor links the Dera Baba Nanak Gurudwara in Gurdaspur district in Indian Punjab to the Darbar Sahib Gurudwara where Guru Nanak Dev spent the last 18 years of his life.

“The joint effort in preparing the Kartarpur corridor has once again underlined the necessity for improving relations and cooperation between the two countries. It also highlighted the importance of developing people to people relations as a vital component of restoring normalcy and good neighbourly relations,” the editorial said.

But on the very day the corridor was being formally launched, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj announced India’s rejection of Pakistan’s invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the SAARC summit in Islamabad saying talks cannot be held along with terrorist actions.

“This falling back on a hardline stance underscores the contradictory and self-defeating stand of the Modi government in its relations with Pakistan,” it said.

It said that the “surgical strikes” of September 2016 only led to more firings and shelling across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, where rising militancy has been met with “brutal State repression”.

The CPI-M said that there was no consistency in India’s approach to Pakistan.

After MeToo, 80% men are overly cautious with women at work’

November 29, 2018 by Nasheman

In the wake of the #MeToo movement, almost 80 per cent of men have become overly cautious in their interactions with women colleagues, according to a report.

The study by market research and analysis company Velocity MR, which had over 2500 respondents across Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Chennai, noted that eight out of 10 people said that formal workplace interactions have been highly impacted as a result of the movement.

It found that close to 80 per cent of the respondents said fear of losing their career, family reputation, social stigma, and scepticism could be some of the reasons for the victims not reporting the cases earlier. Also, around 70 per cent of the respondents agreed that even after reporting the cases, victims still face threats.

The study further observed that close to 50 per cent of the respondents disapproved of victims reporting the abuse later, while two in five males supported the victims saying they are right in reporting the abuse later.

About seven in every 10 respondents said that encouraging the affected women to be independent can possibly help them speak up about the abuse.

“Although the majority of cases coming up in #MeToo are from the media-bollywood industry, other industries are not considered safe by close to 77 per cent of the respondents,” it said.

The survey also revealed that 83 per cent of the respondents believe that there are cases of false allegations in the wake of #MeToo.

“In spite of respondents feeling that there are false allegations, four out of five are hopeful that this would bring about a good change,” it reiterated.

November 29, 2018 by Nasheman

Red Chillies Entertainment on Thursday moved the Delhi High Court against a legal notice sent by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) alleging that an objectionable scene in the upcoming Shah Rukh Khan starrer “Zero” has allegedly hurt the sentiments of the Sikhs.

In the caveat, the Bollywood production house has requested the court not to take any action without informing and hearing the submission of the company.

November 29, 2018 by Nasheman

The Delhi High Court on Thursday extended former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram’s interim protection from arrest in the INX Media money laundering case till January 15.

Later, Karti was granted bail.

Karti’s chartered accountant S. Bhaskararaman was arrested in the case by the ED and he too was later granted bail.
