CBI Director Alok Verma re-joins office

January 9, 2019 by Nasheman

CBI Director Alok Verma re-joins office

Nasheman News : A day after the Supreme Court reinstated Alok Verma as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director with limited powers, he resumed office on Wednesday.

Verma, who was sent on forced leave on the intervening night of October 23-24, returned to work after almost two-and-a-half months.

He left from his residence in central Delhi’s Janpath area at around 10.10 a.m and reached the agency’s headquarters in Lodhi Road area 25 minutes later. He was received by M. Nageswara Rao, who was appointed to look after Verma’s duties and functions.

Verma, a 1979-batch IPS officer of Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre, was Delhi’s Police Commissioner before his appointment as CBI Director on February 1, 2017. His tenure ends on January 31.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court reinstated Verma as the agency chief by setting aside the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and the Centre’s decision to divest him of his powers to function as its head but with a caveat that he will not take any policy decision till a high-level committee goes into the issue afresh.

Disposing of a petition filed by Verma and an NGO, Common Cause, a bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and K.M. Joseph said Verma would “cease and desist” from taking any policy decisions till the issue of denuding of his powers was decided by the High Power Committee (HPC) comprising the Prime Minister, Leader of Opposition and the Chief Justice.

While reinstating Verma, the top court also junked the Centre’s order appointing Rao as the interim Director.

The judgement climaxes a six-month long battle between Verma and Special Director Rakesh Asthana, who both levelled corruption allegations against each other. In October, matters came to a head when Verma lodged an FIR against Asthana on a complaint by one Satish Sana Babu, the alleged middleman in meat exporter Moin Qureshi’s case.

Historic quota bill fitting reply to those spreading lies: Modi

Nasheman News : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said here that the upper castes quota bill passed by the Lok Sabha a day before was a “historic decision” and a slap on the face of those spreading lies and indulging in “minority quota politics”.

“Lies were being spread that the reservations available to Dalits, Tribals and OBCs were sought to be removed… By those playing ‘minority quota politics’. But we have ensured that none of these are disturbed and given an additional 10 per cent. This is a fitting reply to those spreading canards and part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s policy of ‘sabka saath, sabka vikaas’,” Modi said at a rally here.

He expressed hope that the Bill would now be passed smoothly by the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, while addressing the rally to kickstart the BJP’s Lok Sabha campaign from this famed spinning textile city in Maharashtra.

ICC welcomes USA Cricket as its latest member

January 9, 2019 by Nasheman

[Nasheman news] Dubai Following the expulsion of USACA a couple of years ago, the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday welcomed USA Cricket as its newest member.

According to an ICC statement, USA Cricket’s application to become the 93rd Associate Member in accordance with the ICC Constitution was approved by ICC Members following the Membership Committee’s recommendation to the ICC Board late last year and is implemented with immediate effect.

As a Member of the ICC, USA Cricket is now eligible to receive funding in accordance with the ICC Development Funding Policy and can sanction domestic and international cricket in the United States.

Welcoming the new body, ICC Chief Executive David Richardson said: “This is the culmination of a great deal of hard work and I would like to congratulate the Chair of USA Cricket, Paraag Marathe, and the Board, on this important milestone and wish them all the very best for the future.”

USA Cricket Board Chair Paraag Marathe said: “USA Cricket was established to bring together the cricket community in the United States, develop the game and unlock the sport’s undoubted potential for growth. All Indians bust out of Rs 36 cr poker tournament in the Bahamas

January 9, 2019 by Nasheman

[Nasheman news] Nassau (Bahamas) The great Indian poker hope of winning the Rs 36 crore stake at Bahamas has folded. All the eight Indians and several Indian-origin players have been busted out of the tournament organised by online leader Pokerstars.

The last Indian-origin person fighting for the top slot, Ajay Chabra, bowed out on Tuesday evening on day three as only 38 players were left in the fray from the original 1,039 who had entered the Rs 25,000 buy-in tournament in Bahamas — taking the prize pool to $26,45 million.

Six others, apart from the winner would get over a million each. The money would be paid in descending amounts to players who ranked up to 181.

The leader, after day three play, was Scott Baumstein of the US who had amassed $4.24 million chips. But there could still be a lot of changes in the run up to the final minute of the game over the next two days.

According to Aditya Agarwal, brand ambassador of Pokerstars, it takes a cool mental state to reach the top level in a five-day tournament. Agarwal, whose job is to promote poker in India said there was a lot of scepticism about the game since many associated it with other games of chance.

But he said the world over, it is recognised as a game of skill and hopefully India’s highest court would have the opportunity to rule on this at some stage.

He said the Supreme Court had already declared rummy to be a game of skill and it was only a matter of time before that happens on poker too. The matter would be seen in the light of how it’s treated in most of the countries where it’s played. He said the Calcutta and Karnataka High Courts have already deemed poker to be a game of skill – and therefore, legal.

He said there were many poker rooms in both the states and its popularity would only grow. Goa and Sikkim have legal casinos which also host poker games.

Agarwal, who is a celebrated player in India, started off on poker at age of 15 in college, where he learned the game from other students. He took coaching classes in the beginning and was mentored by expert players, with the result that he has made good money over the years, playing in several tournaments. He has shifted to Goa since one year to be able to play more consistently, but is also online almost every day.

He said it was very easy for Indians to play online, as Pokerstars and other companies offer great opportunity for everyone.

Money can be transferred to the site through credit cards or other payment methods and the gaming company deducts 30 per cent on winnings when a player wants to withdraw, providing tax deduction certificate on regular basis.

Quota reservation bill moved in Rajya Sabha

January 9, 2019 by Nasheman

Quota reservation bill moved in Rajya Sabha

Nasheman News : The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till afternoon following protests by opposition members amidst a demand that the Constitution bill providing for upper castes reservation be sent to a Select Committee for detailed consideration even as the government sought to push ahead with its passage on the last day of the winter session on Wednesday.

With Lok Sabha having passed the Constitution (124th Amendment) bill providing for 10 per cent reservation for the economically weaker sections among the general category in government service and higher educational institutions, Social Justice Minister Thawarchand Gehlot moved it for consideration in the upper House.

CPI member D. Raja, who objected to the consideration of the bill, demanded that it be sent to a Select Committee and the House should first take a decision on it.

Madhusudhan Mistry of Congress said the Bill was not complete and told the government that it cannot have both introduction and voting on the same day. He asked what was the urgency in the passage of the Bill.

Members were also protesting against the “unilateral” extension of the session till Wednesday saying it was done without consulting the opposition. They said the Chair did not announce a day’s extension in the working days of the House nor did it seek the members’ consent.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel said the Congress was raising technical issues to stall the Bill. “If you openly oppose the Bill, it is different. Otherwise, let’s have a discussion on it as it has already been introduced,” he said.

Moving the Bill, Gehlot said the Constitution does not allow reservation on economic basis and due to that poor people in general category miss out on opportunities.

“There was a complaint by poor of the general category that they could not avail of government benefits. The decision has been taken after much consideration. This bill will uplift the poor,” he said.

He appealed to the members to pass the bill unanimously. This was followed by the start of the debate by BJP member Prabhat Jha. But as shouting and uproar continued, Deputy Chairman Harivansh adjourned the House till 2 p.m.

The Constitution (124th Amendment) Bill was passed after a division with 323 members voting in its favour and three against in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day too, the House was adjourned once up to noon after protests by members on the “unilateral” extension.

The two-day nationwide strike was called by a coalition of trade unions’ against the alleged anti-labour policies of the central government.

Services were partially affected in Karnataka on Tuesday after a two-day nationwide general strike was called by a coalition of trade unions against the dilution of labour laws by the central government. No major incident of violence was reported across the state.

Streets and major junctions in the state saw smaller crowds compared to usual days, though shops and other establishments functioned normally. Protesters gathered and marched at important junctions and landmarks across the state, including Bengaluru.

Bus services by the four state-run transport corporations – BMTC, KSRTC, NWKRTC, NEKRTC – were severely impacted. Major bus stations across the rest of the state, including Bengaluru’s Majestic, were empty, and as of 12 pm, only 26.5% (854 out of 3226) of scheduled departures in the city had completed their journeys. Some commuters were stranded at junctions, even though train and private bus services were largely unaffected by the bandh strike.

KSRTC ran only 1,518 buses out of a total 4,122 (36.8%) buses, according to its schedule. The NWKRTC and NEKRTC were hit worst with only 242 (9.8%) and 243 (10.8%) buses operating till 12pm.

Bengaluru Metro ran according to its normal schedule as did cab-hailing apps and autos from Ola and Uber. Auto rickshaws were also fewer that usual on the city’s roads on Tuesday.

In one isolated incident, a BMTC bus was vandalised by protesters near Basaveshwaranagar in Bengaluru.

Hundreds gathered at Bengaluru’s Town Hall with a coalition of left-leaning organisations chanted anti-NDA slogans. In Hubbali and Gadag, effigies of Union Minister of Road and Transport Nitin Gadkari were burnt by protesters who opposed the proposed Motor Vehicles Act (Amendment),

A procession was also led by BBMP Guttige Powrakarmika Sanghatane members demanding abolition of contractual work, minimum wages of Rs 18,000 per month and universal public distribution scheme in Magadi Road.

Schools and other educational institutions declared holidays based on orders from respective district commissioners in majority of the thirty districts including Bengaluru and Mysuru. In some cases, examinations were postponed, including preparatory PU-II exams, those in Bangalore University, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and Vishveshwarya Institute of Technology.

The strike is being supported by All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) and Labour Progressive Federation (LPF) among others following the National Convention of Workers held on September 28.

English media schools are required in the state

January 8, 2019 by Nasheman

In the 84th All India Kannada Literature Conference, the decision was made against the English media schools, saying that children should be learning English medium from elementary one class and in today’s competitive world it is inevitable. Parameshwara advocates.

There are also plans to implement this from the coming academic year. He spoke to reporters after attending the “Science Fair of South India States” organized by the Public Education Department and Vishweshwaraiah Industrial and Technological Museum on Monday at St Joseph’s Indian High School Hall.

“There may be hundreds of opinions on the party in starting English medium schools. Also, I can have an opinion.

However, this is related to government policy. In this way, English medium schools are scheduled to start from one class.

And so does not overlook Kannada. It will be taught as a matter. “

Karnataka is the advanced state. There is also an atmosphere of supplementation. Children need to learn English from class 1 to compete at a global level. In the 21st Century, Kannada would also be considered as missing. In addition to this, the Department of Public Education has said that the English Training and Separate Study Unit is already preparing a lot of preparations for teachers.

Practical implementation from next year: Public Education Department Commissioner Dr P.C. “The learning system will be practically implemented in the English medium for 1th grade in 1,000 schools from the academic year on October 25, 2018,” said Jaffer.

The Supreme Court has said that it is their mother-in-law who chooses children’s educational media. It is not only a Kannada language. Applies to 22 country languages in the country. Therefore, the Prime Minister must convene a meeting of all state Chief Ministers and make a decision and nationalize education. Or the Constitution
should be amended .
– Siddaramaiah, Former CM
