Nasheman News :  Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday expressed his happiness over the Supreme Court reinstating Alok Verma as CBI Director, who he claimed was to start a probe into the Rafale deal, and asserted that “nothing can save Prime Minister Narendra Modi form Rafale”.

“CBI chief (Verma) was removed because he wanted to start a probe into the Rafale (deal). Now we have some justice, let’s see what happens,” Gandhi told the media after the reinstatement of Verma, who was divested of all his powers as the CBI chief by the government in October.

Gandhi, who has been seeking answers from Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman over the Rafale deal, reiterated his questions.

“Nothing is going to save the Prime Minister from Rafale…nothing.

“It is pretty clear that the Prime Minister has personally helped his crony get Rs 30,000 crore. I have a simple question. When Modi bypassed the Rafale deal, did the Indian Air Force, did the Defence Ministry raise an objection? I am expecting and ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer. The Defence Minister is not able to give it, neither the Prime Minister,” said Gandhi.

The Congress President also said the country will surely get to know about how Modi helped his friend get Rs 30,000 crore of people’s money.

“The nation is going to 100 per cent know that Modi had taken Rs 30,000 crore of people’s money and given to his friend. Without a shadow of doubt, the nation will get to know this,” added Gandhi, who has called the Rafale deal the country’s “biggest defence scam”.

Anti-Pakistan sentiments being aroused in India for electioneering: Imran

January 8, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : Prime Minister Imran Khan has again accused New Delhi of opting out of a bilateral dialogue and claimed that anti-Pakistan sentiments were being aroused in India for the sake of campaigning for the forthcoming general election.

Khan made the comments in an interview to Turkish broadcaster TRT in which he said that two nuclear-armed neighbours opting for the resolution of bilateral issues through a war would be a suicide, Geo News reported on Tuesday.

“Two nuclear-capable states can’t even afford a cold war, let alone a nuclear war,” Khan said in the interview. He was in Turkey last week for a two-day visit.

The Pakistan’s Premier claimed that New Delhi opted out of a bilateral dialogue several times due to the upcoming polls. He said “India was told that if it takes one step forward, we will take two… but it rejected Pakistan’s offer for talks several times”.

Talking about the Kashmir issue, Khan blamed India for “committing human rights violations in the region” and said “it will never succeed in suppressing the freedom movement of Kashmiris”.

But he added that the solution to the Kahsmir lies in talks between the two neighbours. He, however, claimed that even the UN admitted to the indigenous Kashmiri struggle for independence, the report said.

Khan had earlier also slammed New Delhi, saying that India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party had an “anti-Muslim” and “anti-Pakistan” approach.

Praising Pakistan’s ties with China in the TRT interview, he said when his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party came to power, the country was facing a record current account deficit, but Beijing turned out to be “a breath of fresh air at the critical juncture”.

91 Kanpur tanneries ‘polluting’ Ganga closed

January 8, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : Kanpur authorities have ordered the “immediate shutdown” of 91 leather tanneries in the city that were offloading their waste in the Ganga river, causing widespread water pollution, an official said on Tuesday.

The crackdown comes days before the start of the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj from January 14.

“The idea is to ensure that the Ganga remains non-polluted and that devotees who go to the biggest religious congregation get pure and clear water,” the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) official told IANS.

Closure orders for the remaining 28 tanneries in the Chabilapurwa locality are likely to be issued later on Tuesday, sources said.

More than 15 tanneries functional in the neighbouring Unnao have already been closed for the period of Kumbh.

Some tanneries have been let off as they had treatment plants for their hazardous waste and are not passing off any water in the river.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered officials to ensure that waters of the Ganga was pur

India, Pakistan ‘big countries’ to reduce tension among themselves: Norwegian PM

January 8, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg on Monday said India and Pakistan are ‘big countries’ to decrease tension among themselves without any help from other nations.

“Both Pakistan and India are big enough countries to make sure they can also decrease tensions without any help from outside,” Solberg said during a press briefing at Norway Embassy here.

Solberg is in India on an official three-day visit to deliver the inaugural address in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the fourth edition of the major foreign policy event ‘Raisina Dialogue’, to be held from January 8-10, organised by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Solberg further stated her country is ready to mediate between India and Pakistan if the Asian neighbours are ready for it.

“We and other countries can say that we can help mediating if there is a possibility. But it has to be partner-driven. It has to be those who are party to the conflict,” she added.

Speaking on bringing a solution to the Kashmir issue, Solberg said she doe snot support the military approach to bring peace in the strife-torn valley.

“I believe in peaceful solutions. You can have victory through military solutions but you will have underlying activities. It is not just in Kashmir but in all places in the world. We see it in Syria,” she noted.

Solberg also inaugurated a new green compound. The embassy has obtained a green rating for integrated the habitat.

According to the embassy sources, the building is adapted to the local climate and takes into consideration Indian environmental concerns. The new compound is constructed with wells for rainwater harvesting.

“Geothermal wells are used for cooling by circulating water in 30 wells sunk 100 meters into the earth. Water is heated using solar panels, which produce 200 kWh energy per day. This is equivalent to powering a 40 W bulb for almost 7 months,” sources in the embassy said.

“As a green embassy, I hope it can serve as an inspiration for our shared efforts to achieve the green transition and the Sustainable Development Goals. I look forward to seeing our partnership bear more fruits, in business, politics and development,” Solberg said.

Modi exposed for “destroying” CBI: Congress on Alok Verma’s reinstatement

January 8, 2019 by Nasheman

Nasheman News : The Congress on Tuesday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the Supreme Court reinstated Alok Verma as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director, saying he has been exposed for “destroying” the premier investigating agency.

“Modi adds another first to his list. After being the first Prime Minister to be exposed destroying the CBI before the Supreme Court, after having ruined the CVC’s (Central Vigilance Commission) credibility (requiring supervision by former SC judge), Modi has now become first Prime Minister to have his illegal orders set aside by the Supreme Court,” Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said in a series of tweets.

His remarks came soon after the Supreme Court judgment pronounced on a plea by Verma and NGO Common Cause challenging the government’s decision on the intervening night of October 23-24 to divest Verma of his charge as head of the investigating agency.

Reminding Modi that the government comes and goes but the integrity of the institutions survive, Surjewala hoped that the judgement would be a “lesson” to the Prime Minister about the strength of country’s democracy and the Constitution.

“Modiji please remember, governments have come and gone. Integrity of our institutions have survived. Let this be a lesson to you about the strength of our democracy and the Constitution. Let this be a lesson that howsoever despotic you may be, law catches up in the end,” he said.

Firing salvo at Prime Minister, the Congress leader said: “After making CBI Chief suffer the consequences of your illegal decision for three months, will you show the courage to return three months of lost tenure? Unless you are afraid of investigation into Rafale scam.

“Modi equals to ‘Muzzling of Democratic Institutions’. First, you lose four economic advisors in a row including two RBI Governors. Second, four Supreme Court judges go public on Judge (B.H.) Loya, then you destroy credibility and competence of the CBI and CVC. This is your model of ‘minimum governance, maximum government’,” he added.

Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi questioned the Supreme Court verdict asking what has changed now.

“Before the Supreme Court verdict; Alok Verma didn’t have powers of CBI Chief, couldn’t take any decision on policy or investigation. After Supreme Court verdict: Ditto,” Singhvi tweeted.

Nasheman News : The Income-Tax (I-T) department will soon hold a meeting with the Kannada film industry fraternity on the need for paying taxes and filing returns, a top official said on Monday.

“We will soon hold a meeting with the Karnataka film industry to convey that they (fraternity) should pay taxes and file returns,” said Karnataka Director-General Income -Tax (Investigation) B.R. Balakrishnan told reporters here.

The department’s sleuths found recently that many in the film industry like cameramen, make-up personnel and crew were not filing tax returns.

“Through the meeting, we want to appeal to the film fraternity to pay their taxes,” said Balakrishnan a day after his office on Sunday revealed that searches on 4 Kannada super stars and 3 producers resulted in seizure of undisclosed assets valued at Rs 11 crore, including Rs 2.85 crore in cash and 25 kg gold jewellery.

Incriminating evidence found during the searches from January 3-5 also resulted in the defaulters admitting to Rs 109 crore unaccounted income.

“Rs 109 crore concealed income was found so far in all the searches on actors and film producers. The searches are going on,” the DG said.

The I-T office issued search warrants under section 132 of the Income-Tax Act 1961 on those who were searched a day or two ahead of conducting the raids.

“The searches are an evidence gathering exercise. We will continue the searches and investigation. The evidence will be sent to a senior officer to assess the income earned and tax payable. In a few exceptional cases, we will file prosecution straight away as well,” Balakrishnan told IANS on the margins of an event.

The tax office will adjust the money found (seized) against the tax demand or penalty demand.

In a related development, the tax department celebrated “Investigation Day” and felicitated officers and staff of its investigation wing for detecting a whopping Rs 12,268 crore concealed income across the Karnataka and Goa region during the fiscal 2017-18.

“Of the concealed income, Rs 5,339 crore was confessed by the tax payers. Rs 78-crore unaccounted income was seized in the last fiscal,” said Balakrishnan on the occasion.

During this fiscal (2018-19) the Investigation Directorate conducted searches resulting in admission of undisclosed income of Rs 4,038 crore and detection of Rs 6,134 crore unaccounted income.

Searches were conducted on assessees spanning politicians, bureaucrats, breweries, multinationals, mining barons, diagnostic centres, trusts, educational institutions, medical colleges, real estate, fisheries and film industry.

“The searches have resulted in collecting evidence on tax evasion. In many cases, searches exposed complex web of overseas entities floated by assessees for laundering money abroad and investments made in foreign assets having ramifications under the Black Money Act,” recalled Balakrishnan.

The department has issued notice in many cases under the BMA to the assesses and initiated prosecution.

Under the new Benami Prohibition Units in Bengaluru and Panaji, 84 properties valued at Rs 563 crore were attached, while 91 benamidars and 19 beneficial owners were identified.

Nasheman News : An Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer in West Bengal found himself in the eye of a storm on Monday after a video grab showing him and his wife mercilessly beating up a youth at a police station for making “lewd” comments on social media went viral.

Nikhil Nirmal, the District Magistrate of Alipurduar, was also seen threatening to kill the youth and claiming “nobody speaks against me in my district”, as police officers helplessly watched.

Taking a serious view of the incident, the state government has asked Nirmal to go on 10 days’ leave.

The young man, Vinod Kumar Sarkar, was brought to the Falakata Police Station on Sunday night after his Facebook post, which the DM and his wife found objectionable.

Nirmal stormed into the station soon after, and slapped and punched the youth 10 times. The IAS officer’s wife Nandini Krishnan was also seen in the video kicking the victim and asking him to spell out who had asked him to write the post.

An enraged Nirmal was heard saying: “If I can bring you to the police station in half an hour, then I can enter your house and kill you too.”

Sarkar, who was later arrested, bade forgiveness, but to no avail.

Towards the end of the video, a policeman was seen taking the youth away.

When asked about his version of the chain of events, he said: “Nandini madam had asked some questions on Facebook. I said ‘you don’t have any other identity. Your identity is that of your husband’.

“She then added me in a group, and abused me. I abused back,” he said.

His family members and human rights groups have raised their voice against the treatment meted out to Sarkar.

“Why did the DM and his wife beat up my son? I want the DM to be punished. If anything happens to my son, the DM should be held responsible,” said the youth’s mother Kalpana Sarkar.

Human rights activist Ranjit Sur said: “The DM has taken the law into his own hands. The police officers were mere spectators. The DM entered the police station with his wife and beat up the victim. The DM behaved like a mafia don. He is unsuitable for such a post. He must be given punishment. He should be placed under suspension immediately.”
