After EC order, case filed against Gautam Gambhir

April 27, 2019 by Nasheman

The Aam Aadmi Party had on Friday filed a criminal complaint against Gautam Gambhir saying his name figured twice in the electoral rolls.

The Delhi Police on Saturday filed a case against cricketer-turned-politician and BJP candidate Gautam Gambhir in compliance with the directives of the Election Commission (EC).

Gambhir landed himself in trouble after the EC on Saturday directed East Delhi Returning Officer to file an FIR against him for “holding a rally without permission.”

Gambhir had not taken permission for his rally on April 25 in East Delhi’s Jangpura, violating the model code of conduct, the poll body said.

Taking serious note of the matter, the poll body said Gautam Gambhir must face action for rally in East Delhi without permission.

The BJP, on Monday, fielded former cricketer Gautam Gambhir from the East Delhi constituency.

Gambhir has replaced Maheish Girri as the party’s candidate and will take on Arvinder Singh Lovely of the Congress and Atishi of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The former Indian opener is the richest among all the candidates in fray for the Lok Sabha election in Delhi with total assets worth Rs 147 core.

Taking a dig at the new entrant in BJP, AAP’s East Delhi candidate Atishi tweeted, “First, Discrepancies in nomination papers. Then, Criminal offence of having 2 voter IDs. Now, FIR for illegal rally. My question to @GautamGambhir: When you don’t know the rules, why play the game? (sic)”

The Aam Aadmi Party had on Friday filed a criminal complaint against Gautam Gambhir saying his name figured twice in the electoral rolls.

Atishi said it was a criminal matter and called for his “immediate disqualification”.

Delhi, which has seven Lok Sabha constituencies, will go to polls on May 12. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.

High alert after inputs on major terror attacks in 8 states

April 27, 2019 by Nasheman

Bengaluru
Late on Friday, the Karnataka Police reportedly received an input about major terror attacks planned in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, Puducherry, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

In the wake of the deadly serial blasts in Sri Lanka that killed over 253 people on Easter Sunday, Bengaluru and Mysuru in southern Karnataka and Kerala have been put on high alert following inputs of major terror attacks in eight states.

“We have deployed additional forces in all sensitive areas, religious places, markets, malls, shopping plazas, multiplexes, airport, railway station, inter-state bus terminal and public places to prevent untoward incidents,” Bengaluru Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar told IANS.

Though the city was already on alert with extra vigil and more security for the April 18 Lok Sabha election in the state’s central and southern regions, the city and state police are not taking chances.

Hotels, pubs, restaurants, marriage halls, multi-complexes and supermarkets have been directed to step up the security with CCTV cameras, metal detectors and fire alarm.

Bengaluru has been on general alert for years as India’s tech hub with the presence of over 500 global IT firms, aerospace industries, Indian space agency ISRO, defence labs, Indian Institute of Science and state-run research and development institutes.

The city police held meetings with all stakeholders on Thursday to assess their preparedness for dealing with any unforeseen incident or attack.

“As a cosmopolitan city, Bengaluru attracts lots of people from all over the state and country for direct and indirect jobs, higher education, healthcare, services, manufacturing and tourism,” Kumar said.

The police also beefed up security and patrolling in Mysuru, about 150 km from Bengaluru, as thousands of tourists from across India and abroad visit the city as tourists.

Meanwhile, late on Friday, the Karnataka Police reportedly received an input about major terror attacks planned in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, Puducherry, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

According to the police, a phone call was made by a lorry driver “claiming to have information of alleged terror attacks on the aforesaid states”. He claimed that the attacks will take place on trains. The input also claimed that there were 19 terrorists present at Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu.

However, the input was termed as hoax threat by the Karnataka police officials who said they have arrested a 65-year-old lorry driver identified as Sundara Murthy, who is also a retired Army personnel, for making the call.

Following the input, Kerala Police upped the ante against possible extremist activity in the state.

Senior officers of the National Investigation Agency had visited several places in Kerala as part of their sweeping probe against Zahran Hashim, the head of relatively unknown National Thowheeth Jamaath, an affiliate of the ISIS, as part of its investigation into his links in India.

Hashim was confirmed to have been killed in the attack on a Colombo hotel on Easter Sunday.

The blasts targeted St Anthony’s Church in Colombo, St Sebastian’s Church in the western coastal town of Negombo and Zion Church in the eastern town of Batticaloa around 8.45 am (local time) as the Easter Sunday mass were in progress.

Explosions were also reported from three five-star hotels — the Shangri-La, the Cinnamon Grand and the Kingsbury in Colombo.

6 children, 3 women among 15 killed in raids on IS hideouts in Sri Lanka

April 27, 2019 by Nasheman

The bodies of 15 people, including six children, were discovered at the site of a fierce overnight gun battle on the east coast of Sri Lanka, a military spokesman said on Saturday, six days after suicide bombers killed more than 250 people.

The shootout between troops and suspected Islamist militants erupted on Friday evening in Sainthamaruthu in Ampara, to the south of the town of Batticaloa, site of one of the Easter Sunday blasts at three churches and four luxury hotels.

A police spokesman said that three suspected suicide bombers were among the 15 dead after the shoot out.

One child caught in the crossfire was admitted to hospital.

Military spokesman Sumith Atapattu said in a statement that as troops headed towards the safe house three explosions were triggered and gunfire began.

“Troops retaliated and raided the safe house where a large cache of explosives had been stored,” he said in a statement.

He said the militants were suspected members of the domestic Islamist group National Towheed Jama’at (NTJ), which has been blamed for last Sunday’s attacks.

Bomb-making materials, dozens of gelignite sticks and thousands of metal balls were found in a search of a separate house in the same area, the military said.

The government has said nine homegrown, well-educated suicide bombers carried out the Easter Sunday attacks, eight of whom had been identified. One was a woman.

Police said on Friday they were trying to track down 140 people they believe have links with Islamic State, which claimed responsibility for the suicide bombings.

Police have detained at least 76 people, including foreigners from Syria and Egypt, in their investigations so far. Twenty were arrested in the past 24 hours alone, they said.

Authorities warn of more attacks

Islamic State provided no evidence to back its claim that it was behind the attacks. If true, it would be one of the worst attacks carried out by the group outside Iraq and Syria.

The extremist group released a video on Tuesday showing eight men, all but one with their faces covered, standing under a black Islamic State flag and declaring their loyalty to its leader, Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi.

Muslims in Sri Lanka were urged to pray at home on Friday after the State Intelligence Services warned of possible car bomb attacks, amid fears of retaliatory violence.

Fears of retaliatory sectarian violence have already caused Muslim communities to flee their homes amid bomb scares, lockdowns and security sweeps.

The U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka urged its citizens to avoid places of worship over the weekend after authorities reported there could be more attacks targeting religious centres.

Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith told reporters he had seen a leaked internal security document warning of further attacks on churches and there would be no Catholic masses this Sunday anywhere on the island.

Nearly 10,000 soldiers were deployed across the Indian Ocean island state to carry out searches and provide security for religious centres, the military said.

Authorities have so far focused their investigations on international links to two domestic groups they believe carried out the attacks, NTJ and Jammiyathul Millathu Ibrahim.

Intelligence failure

Officials have acknowledged a major lapse in not widely sharing intelligence warnings from India of possible attacks.

President Maithripala Sirisena said on Friday that top defence and police chiefs had not shared information with him about the impending attacks.

He blamed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s government for weakening the intelligence system by focusing on prosecution of military officers over alleged war crimes during a decades-long civil war with Tamil separatists that ended in 2009.

Sirisena fired Wickremesinghe in October over political differences, only to reinstate him weeks later under pressure from the Supreme Court.

Opposing factions aligned to Wickremesinghe and Sirisena have often refused to communicate with each other and blame any setbacks on their opponents, government sources say.

The Easter Sunday bombings shattered the relative calm that had existed in Buddhist-majority Sri Lanka since the civil war against mostly Hindu ethnic Tamil separatists ended.

Sri Lanka’s 22 million people include minority Christians, Muslims and Hindus. Until now, Christians had largely managed to avoid the worst of the island’s conflict and communal tensions.

Most of the victims were Sri Lankans, although authorities said at least 40 foreigners were also killed, many of them tourists sitting down to breakfast at top-end hotels when the bombers struck.

They included British, US, Australian, Turkish, Indian, Chinese, Danish, Dutch and Portuguese nationals. Britain warned its nationals this week to avoid Sri Lanka unless it was absolutely necessary.

Trump proposals on nuclear arms disarmament ‘not serious’: Russia

April 27, 2019 by Nasheman

US President Donald Trump’s proposals on nuclear arms disarmament is “not serious,” a Kremlin spokesman said on Saturday.

Trump has ordered his administration to prepare a push for new arms-control agreements with Russia and China citing the cost of the 21st-century nuclear arms race, The Washington Post reported on Thursday citing administration officials.

“It would be ideal to clean up the whole world from the nuclear weapon…but on the other hand we would have been deprived of the deterrent factor,” Dmitry Peskov told reporters on the sidelines of a summit on China’s Belt and Road plan. “Don’t forget about the deterrent factor, about the deterrent parity,” he said.

Peskov also said Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping held substantial talks and exchanged views on Syria, Venezuela and Libya when they met on Friday.

Mahamilavatis just thinking of their dynasty, not of the country: Modi

April 27, 2019 by Nasheman

Kannauj, Apr 27 : Claiming that after three phases of elections, no one can even think of a new Prime Minister in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged that ”Mahamilavatis” are only bothered about the future of their own dynasty and not concerned with the country’s future.
Though he had never promoted caste in politics but the opposition was raking his caste in the elections, Mr Modi alleged.

The PM also hit out at the BSP for seeking vote for Samajwadi Party, which had insulted Dr B R Ambedkar in Kannauj.

”Behenji” is happily asking for votes for the Samajwadi Party (SP), just for power, just to defeat Modi. You are hugging the people who abuse Babasaheb? “Remember, in Tirwa, how the SP had insulted Babasaheb Ambedkar, the BSP has forgotten this. Remember, the BSP had named a Medical College in the name of Babasaheb Ambedkar. But the SP government had thrown away the board of Baba Saheb’s name,” he said.

He also gave a new slogan of ,”Jaat, Paat Japna, Janata Ka Maal Apna” showing how these opposition alliance in UP was trying to win the seats so that they can have a weak government at the centre and thus opt for corruption like they did between 2004 and 2014.

The PM was addressing an election rally in support of BJP candidates of Kannauj, Etawah and Farrukhabad, which goes to polls in the fourth phase on April 29. SP president Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple is contesting from Kannauj.

Ridiculing opposition leaders for their “dream” to become prime minister, Mr Modi said, “These are ones who seek evidence of air strikes, shed tears for Batla House encounter.”

”But no opposition leader during the election rallies have given any formula for defending the country from terrorism. Instead, the SP-BSP are either scared of terrorists or they are giving patronage to them, as they had not uttered a word on this issue yet,” he said.

He also slammed the opposition SP-BSP-RLD alliance for attacking ‘chowkidar’ and Ram bhakts. He termed opposition alliance ‘opportunist’ and ‘mahamilawati’ and claimed “Whatever efforts the opposition makes, it will be Modi again.”

Hitting out at the opposition for raking up his caste, the PM said, “I come from a most backward community but had never said this in public. When my entire country is backward then why should we do politics of backward and forward. My only aim is to take the entire country forward.”

The PM also raised the five-pointers of the Indian tricolour to be his ultimate aim when the country celebrates 75th year of independence in 2022.
Keseria colour of the Indian flag means- energy (whether it is power or any other energy), white means- white revolution (dairy, egg, milk sugar cotton), green means– green revolution like agriculture with modern technology, blue chakra means- blue revolution like fisheries, water, river and ocean and the stick of the flag, means– infrastructure revolution like development of all types of infrastructure.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also addressed the rally by claiming that there is no doubt that the BJP is retaining the power with more seats than 2014.

The PM will be addressing two more rallies in Hardoi and Sitapur on Saturday.

Election 2019: At Shatrughan Sinha Rally, A Jinnah Reference In His Praise For Congress

Election 2019: At Shatrughan Sinha Rally, A Jinnah Reference In His Praise For Congress

[nasheman news]
CHHINDWARA, MADHYA PRADESH:

Actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha, who recently switched sides from the BJP to the Congress, while praising his new partyon Friday, invoked Pakistan founder Mohammed Ali Jinnah along with Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel and Jawaharlal Nehru.

“The Congress family, from Mahatma Gandhi to Sardar Patel to Mohammad Ali Jinnah to Jawaharlal Nehru to Indira Gandhi to Rajiv Gandhi to Rahul Gandhi to Netaji Subhash Chnadra Bose. It is their party. They had the most important role in development and freedom of the country. This is the reason why I have come here (in Congress),” Mr Sinha said in Hindi at a rally in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara.

Shatrughan Sinha, 72, was in Madhya Pradesh to campaign for Chief Minister Kamal Nath’s son Nakul Nath, who is contesting the national election from the Chhindwara parliamentary constituency.

Shatrughan Sinha, Congress in Chhindwara, MP: Congress family from Mahatma Gandhi to Sardar Patel to Mohd Ali Jinnah to Jawaharlal Nehru…it’s their party, they had the most important role in development & freedom of the country. This is the reason I’ve come here.

Soon after joining the Congress, Mr Sinha had ruffled many feathers within the party when he recently campaigned for his wife Poonam who is contesting from Lucknow on a Samajwadi Party ticket, though the Congress has also fielded its candidate from there.

His recent praise for Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati and Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav, calling them “Prime Minister material”, too drew censure from a section of Congress leaders who found it objectionable after the gathbandhan or the grand alliance left the Congress out of the equation.

Mr Sinha, while in the BJP, was openly critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah.

His tweet-a-day barbs were increasingly provocative for the party. In January, he even joined opposition leaders in a mega rally in Kolkata hosted by Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

In an association that had been souring for years, the proverbial last straw was the BJP snubbing him and naming a different candidate, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, for his Patna Sahib constituency in Bihar where he has been the lawmaker for a decade.

Shatrughan Sinha will take on Mr Prasad as the Congress candidate from Patna Sahib.
