JKLF marchers stopped from moving towards LoC to protest abrogation of Article 370

October 7, 2019 by Nasheman

The demonstrators, mostly youngsters, resumed their march from Garhi Dupatta where they had reached on Saturday from Muzaffarabad, the capital of the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

ISLAMABAD: Thousands of people from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir were on Sunday stopped from marching towards the highly militarised Line of Control to protest India’s move to scrap the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and to express solidarity with Kashmiris.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday warned the protesters not to cross the LoC, saying anyone crossing it to provide humanitarian aid or support for Kashmiris will “play into the hands of the Indian narrative.”

Tension between India and Pakistan escalated after New Delhi revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status on August 5.

Pakistan downgraded diplomatic ties with New Delhi and expelled the Indian High Commissioner.

Islamabad has been trying to internationalise the Kashmir issue but India has asserted that the abrogation of Article 370 was its “internal matter”.

New Delhi has also asked Islamabad to accept the reality and stop its anti-India rhetoric.

The demonstrators, mostly youngsters from Garhi Dupatta where they had reached on Saturday from Muzaffarabad, the capital of the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

They were moving on the Muzaffarabad-Srinagar Highway, but the authorities blocked the road by putting containers and barbed wires at Jiskool, which is almost 6-8 kilometres from the LoC.

Some of the protestors tried to remove the barbed wires but were stopped by police.

Others tried to circumvent the blockage by climbing the steep mountains but could not do so as heavy contingent of police was deployed to foil any such attempt.

The protest march has been organised by Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF).

A local JKLF leader Rafiq Dar told the media that they would try to convince the authorities to let them go up to Chakothi – a village about 3 kilometres from the LoC.

“I hope they will allow us carry on our peaceful march to the town of Chakothi. Our march is peaceful and we do not want any kind of confrontation,” he said.

Dar said UN Military Observers Group for India and Pakistan had also contacted them.

He said the UN was urged to persuade India and Pakistan to not use force against peaceful protestors.

Dubbed as the ‘freedom march’, the organisers have announced to cross the LoC to defy the line dividing Kashmir and show support for the people of Kashmir.

The protestors were chanting mostly anti-India slogans and most of their banners carried anti-India messages.

The protestors started the march on Friday from different parts of PoK and got together in Muzafarabad from where they started moving towards the LoC on Saturday but stayed for overnight at Garhi Dupatta.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi urged US Senator Chris Van Hollen to visit areas on the two sides of the LoC to see the ground situation.

Hollen, along with US Charge d’Affaires Ambassador Paul Jones, travelled to Multan on Saturday afternoon to meet with Qureshi, the Foreign Office said in statement issued after midnight.

Qureshi appreciated Senator’s leadership role in proposing an amendment to the Senate Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Bill, 2020 that explicitly expresses concern about the “humanitarian crisis in Kashmir.”

From Iblur to HSR Layout, ‘Pothole Rajas’ step in again in Bengaluru

October 7, 2019 by Nasheman

Pothole Rajas is an NGO that ropes in citizens, who on being disappointed by the lackadaisical approach of the civic authorities in mending roads, do the job themselves.

Potholes

BENGALURU: With the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) blaming rains for not being able to fix pothole-ridden roads in the city, many ‘Pothole Rajas’ have come to the rescue, filling several potholes in the city.

Pothole Rajas is an NGO that ropes in citizens, who on being disappointed by the lackadaisical approach of the civic authorities in mending roads, do the job themselves. “Pothole Rajas and Ranis are enabling citizens and organisations to take ‘law into their own hands’, and repair potholes on the roads. Any citizen can come forward and fill up a pothole,” said Sourabh Kumar, Chief Operating Officer of the NGO.

On Sunday 15 volunteers headed to Iblur and fixed potholes from Iblur to HSR Layout BDA complex, covering a stretch of about four km, and fixed 30 potholes in three hours. “On our complaint number we receive about six to ten complaints every day. We figured that a majority of the complaints were from Iblur. We did a survey on the spot and found the stretch was really bad and decided to have it fixed”, added Kumar.

It was further pointed out that Pothole Rajas use eco-friendly methods. “There is no environment pollution caused during the process of manufacturing the raw material. Besides, we use weather-proof pothole fixing solution. The average time taken to fix a pothole is ten minutes and the cost of fixing one pothole of 50 mm depth is Rs 3,500,

A resident from Iblur said, “The road was so bad with potholes everywhere, more like a death trap. We are very happy that the team came and fixed the pothole here.” So far, the team has covered around 6,000 potholes in various cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Amritsar.

Rathore, formed a special team under the Supervision of,ACP,Cubbon park Sub-Divsion,Pratap Reddy,PIs and other crime staff with technical wing Head Constable,Ranganath swung into action as the head constable Ranganath used to look after about tracking the theft mobiles as during the tracking of the theft mobile the head constable found that mobiles which are being theft in crowded places are being traced in other states and few months back a mobile phone was traced to Hyderabad. After getting information based on the information and vital clues a special team was sent to Hyderabad to keep a close watch on the shops who are involved in selling and purchasing of used mobile phones the team which kept a close watch on the shop in Jagadish Market a team went as a decoy and approached the shop owner in the pretext of selling and purchasing the mobile phones as customers and the shop owner received the mobile phone from the decoy cop and another cop went to purchase the same he sold him for lesser price of the value so based on this the team picked the shop owner identified as Amir Zameer Khan and the team was successful in nabbing this person during interrogation he revealed that he used to receive mobile phones through Courier from Bengaluru and he used to receive it through parcel by courier by a person name Arif Khan and he used to send 20-25 mobile phones in a packet based on this the team has conducted a secret operation to recover stolen mobile phones and nabbing the persons involved in this racket. The team who got to know about the kingpin of the racket after getting phones-12,LG mobile phones-09,Micromax mobile phones-14,with other companies 72 mobile phones altogether 563 mobile phones has been recovered from these big networking mobile theft gang and he even said,I will conduct an internet meeting regarding the mobile thefts many people take multiple SIM cards this is only increasing crimes we haven’t focused in this but we will start doing it.as chain snatching and mobile snatching crimes has been rampant so I appeal to citizens to take care of their mobile phones by guarding it wire as safety wire as in olden days we used to put it in specks a wire which guards the specks so if it is tagged in mobile phones it will guard or the public should insured their mobile phones while purchasing and the insurance company owner should bring rules that if it has inbuilt GPS tracker then only we will issue insurance for the said device as even the GPS can be dismental but the inbuilt GPS cannot be dismental if their is a inbuilt GPS fixed in the devices so much of theft can come down as we have advanced technology and those mobile phones recovered were sold in reselling shops mobile is no longer an instrument of convenience mobile has now become a weapon also a dangeorous weapon if cops keep control on mobile phone thefts and in future we will have a separate wing set up as M-Crimes like M-Governance which the central government has and our team will collect information from the CID and CBI with cyber experts about the M-Crimes and we are seriously thinking putting rigorous efforts our officers will concentrate and put their minds together on preventing mobile crimes as it is increasing in quarrelling, kidnapping, murder and extra marital relationship and getting fluid but this people have done a wonderful and good job in busting this big networking racket who are even experts in IMEI tampering as alterations a case has been registered in SJ park and Ashoknagar police station and further investigation is on as this is big networking racket and many more receivers are involved we suspect this gang is involved more than 10,000 mobile thefts in last 3 years and finally I appreciate,Addl CP West,Umesh kumar,DCP Central,Chethan Singh Rathore, and his team as ACP Cubbon Park,Pratap Reddy and PIs as,Tanveer,N Jagadish, and Rafiq KM,and their team of 13-PSIs,45-HC/PC,and the whole operation was monitored and Flood aid comes as big relief for BSY, ‘too little’ for Opposition

October 5, 2019 by Nasheman

Govt estimated damage at Rs 35,000-Rs 1 lakh crore; While state BJP leaders express gratitude to PM, Cong, JDS flay Centre for ‘inadequate’ funds

BENGALURU: On a day when an embattled CM BS Yediyurappa confessed that the “state government’s financials are not sound”, the release of Rs 1,200 crore came as a shot in the arm for the BJP government.
BJP general secretary N Ravi Kumar said, “The Centre has announced interim relief of Rs 1,200 crore, and in the next few days, the state will get more relief from the Centre.’’

While BJP ministers and leaders said the release of funds would help speed up relief work in flood-hit areas, the Congress and JDS called it “too little, too late”. The state had estimated the damage across the state to be Rs 35,000 crore to Rs 1 lakh crore.

Former CM HD Kumaraswamy was quick to criticise the sum released. “They have succumbed to the protests and public anger, and have measured and weighed and released Rs 1,200 crore. Even if the treasury has funds, the state government had forgotten the flood victims, this is our misfortune. At least now let them become alert.’’

“The relief announced by the Centre is grossly insufficient. While the state government had sought Rs 38,000 crore, they have sanctioned a pittance, a mere Rs 1200 crore,” said former CM Siddaramaiah.
Former Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge said, “It is too little, too late. When a leader(referring to Yatnal) raises the flood issue, they slap him with a notice! After 45-50 days, you release such a miniscule sum. The estimated loss is Rs 1 lakh crore and even the state BJP government had demanded Rs 5,000 crore. This is not going to help anyone. When you don’t respond to an urgent need in time, what is the use of a delayed lethargic response?’’

Congress and JDS leaders insisted that the Centre needs to release more funds expeditiously to help victims.

BJP leaders, meanwhile, heaved a sigh of relief as the Centre announced the flood relief, even as public anger was growing. Leaders from within the party were also questioning the delay in release of funds.
Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and Deputy CM CN Ashwath Narayana expressed gratitude for the support from PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the funds. Union Minister DV Sadananda Gowda said, “Our government has released an amount of Rs 1,200 crore in advance.’’

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister JC Madhuswamy said, “We are happy they have done something, we have faith that they will release more funds in the future.’’ Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said the “advance release of funds to Karnataka would speed up relief and restoration work in Karnataka’’.
“The relief announced by the Centre is grossly insufficient. While the state government had sought Rs 38,000 crore, they have sanctioned a pittance, a mere Rs 1200 crore,” said former CM Siddaramaiah.

CM: finances not sound In response to rising demands by farmers in flood-hit areas to release crop compensation on the lines of the Maharashtra government, Yediyurappa said he had directed Deputy Commissioners to study the Maharashtra model to check if it was financially viable for Karnataka. Addressing a meeting at Darur, Yediyurappa admitted that the financial position of his government was not sound, but said that a sum of Rs 5 lakh was being provided for construction of each damaged house.

In spite of the odds he was facing, the CM said he had been trying to provide maximum relief to those who had lost their properties in the recent floods. Yediyurappa said that within the next 15 days, his cabinet would give its nod to implement a multi-village drinking water project worth Rs 80 crore in 16 villages of Athani taluk.

To stay away from cricket was very tough: Ravichandran Ashwin

October 5, 2019 by Nasheman

After claiming his 27th five-wicket haul in Tests on Friday, Ashwin showed that he remained India’s go to spinner in home conditions.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Ravichandran Ashwin, playing his first Test match since December last year, says he badly missed playing for India in the last 10 months, so much so that the wily off-spinner stopped watching the game.

The 33-year-old, who has been playing only one format for India since July 2017, last played the Adelaide Test from December 6 to 10, the first of the four on the tour of Australia.

To his disappointment, Ashwin did not feature in the playing eleven in the following Test series against the West Indies in August-September when India only played one spinner in Ravindra Jadeja.

“To stay away from cricket itself was very tough for me. In order to substitute, I played whatever games I got. I tried and made opportunity for myself to go and play some county cricket (for Nottinghamshire). I tried and played the TNPL as much as I could, played some league cricket in Chennai,” he said.

“It was very important to tick those numbers off because that is essentially where I came from. Going back and playing there is probably the best thing that could have happened,” said Ashwin, who when asked about time away from national duty.

After claiming his 27th five-wicket haul in Tests on Friday, Ashwin showed that he remained India’s go to spinner in home conditions.

Asked how spent his time away from the spotlight, Ashwin said: “I felt like every time I watched the game on TV I felt like wanted to play the game.

“I was missing out I felt, it is very natural. I just wanted to play. Everybody goes through it. But that’s not the end. I tried different things in my life.

“My life has revolved around cricket for the last 25 years. I thought my life, my family everybody deserved a bit more of my time so I tried to spend time away from the game. I discovered other interests (reading archaeology books was one of them). I did not fret too much about the game.”

Fitness issues had sidelined him on the tour of Australia. Asked how he dealt with it, Ashwin said: “In terms of addressing injuries and why it happened, it is best for the medical staff to do it.

For me I felt like all of a sudden I wasn’t playing all formats of the game.

“I was playing 12 months a year and up and down spike in workload probably would have caused it.

That is why I went back and played wherever I got an opportunity and from my side I can tick those boxes and see how my body copes with it,” he said.

Ashwin enjoyed his county stint in England where he even dismissed South African opener Dean Elgar, who got the better of him here on Friday.

The offie said not playing regular cricket for India also made him realise how much he loves bowling.

“I am elated to be back. There is nothing like picking up a five-wicket haul for your country. This place is very special for me but I enjoyed a five-wicket haul for Nottingham too. One is not too lesser than the other,” Ashwin said.

“For me it is about playing the game and I have realised that the joy of the game has to be back in my heart. I made sure that I enjoy the game where ever I go and play. That I thought to an extent was quite visible when I played yesterday.”

Talking about South Africa’s fightback in the ongoing first Test, Ashwin said Elgar and Quinton de Kock deserves all the credit for playing the way they did.

“It is a proper Test match pitch. You expect two teams to bat well don’t you? I thought they batted really well.

Whenever the ball spun, it spun from far distances not from the normal length.

“We might have given them few too many runs in the morning session which probably gave them the momentum. You expect a good side to play the way they did. So credit has to be given where it needs to be given,” he said.

“We came back in the back half of the day. That is how Test cricket is supposed to be,” Ashwin added.

Applications for Haj 2020 to be fully digitised, says Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi

October 5, 2019 by Nasheman

Muslims seeking to go to Saudi Arabia for the pilgrimage can file online applications during October 10—November 10.

Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi

NEW DELHI:  The Haj 2020 will be fully digitised and the process for filing applications for the pilgrimage will start on October 10, Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi announced on Friday.  When asked how people in the Kashmir Valley would apply for Haj, the minister assured Kashmiris will not face problems.

“There will be no difficulty in filling Haj forms in Kashmir. People who cannot fill the forms at their homes will be facilitated at government centres,” Naqvi told this newspaper.

Haj 2020 will be “100 per cent online” and a system has been developed to provide e-visa to all the pilgrims, Naqvi said, adding “Applications for Haj can also be filed through a mobile application.”

Muslims seeking to go to Saudi Arabia for the pilgrimage can file online applications during October 10—November 10.  Mobile phones and internet services remain suspended in Kashmir since August 5 when the Centre hollowed Article 370 of the Constitution and scrapped the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

He also said there will be 22 Haj embarkation points in 2020 as compared to 21 last year.  Naqvi said the ministry was also considering another new embarkation point. There have been many requests of making Kannur International Airport as a Haj embarkation point and that is being examined by the authorities, he said.

Naqvi made the announcements after chairing a review meeting organised on the completion of Hajj 2019 where he took stock of the preparations for next year’s pilgrimage.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the ministries of External Affairs, Civil Aviation,  Health, India’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ausaf Sayeed and officials of the Haj Committee of India.

BHOPAL:  Police in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh have lodged a case against unidentified persons for allegedly writing the word ‘rashtra drohi’ (traitor) on a photograph of Mahatma Gandhi at the Laxman Bag museum on October 2, the 150th birth anniversary of the Mahatma. The complainant in the case, Rewa District Congress president Gurmeet Singh, also alleged in his complaint that an urn containing Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes had been stolen from the premises of the sprawling museum in Rewa town.

However, it’s not clear whether or not the urn actually bore Gandhi’s ashes, as there doesn’t seem to be any historical evidence about any urn containing Gandhi’s ashes at the place concerned.

The matter came to light on Wednesday, when Congress leaders went to the museum to garland the picture of Mahatma Gandhi and were shocked to find the word ‘rashtra drohi’ written on it. Police reached the spot and removed the word written on the photograph.

“A case has been registered under Sections 153B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration) 504 (intentional insult with an intent to provoke the breach peace) and 505 (statements conducing public mischief) against unidentified persons and investigations are underway,” Rewa district police superintendent Abid Khan said on Thursday.

Khan, however, added that a preliminary probe did not suggest that the urn contained ashes of the Mahatma. “The ashes were not stolen. We were told that the urn was used to take his ashes in 1948 and the empty urn is now missing. That’s all. The Trust (Lakshman Bag Trust) which maintains the entire premises) should know about what was kept there,” he said. He added that a probe was underway to ascertain who defaced Gandhi’s photograph.
